This place overcharges for an oil change and other items, but you can't beat the convenience. Their oil change full synthetic is $115 without their $12 coupon. You can get the same oil change at Evan's Tire down the street for half the price, but then you got to wait at least an hour and half for your car even with an appointment. Don't replace any filters at valvoline unless you want to overpay either. You can l get the same cabin/engine filters for half the price elsewhere and they are easy to install yourself. I will be returning because they have good service and time is money. It's just not the most economical option. read more

I have a diesel Mercedes Sprinter van which I recently got. I tried various places that were reluctant to work on it making all sorts of flimsy excuses. On a whim, I tried Valvoline in Encinitas. Even though I live in the mountains forty miles away. I was greeted warmly by Elijah who directed me into a stall and explained the procedures and options. After I made my decisions, they began working. Several members of the team worked on my truck. I was impressed that they had the special oil required and the oil filter cartridge in stock. Most of the work was done by a young woman who was exceptionally meticulous as she installed the filter and made various adjustments. Her hair covered her name tag, so I can't credit her by name. I saw an H and an R, so maybe it was something like "Heather", She was obviously well-trained and careful. I have worked on cars and trucks for 50 years and I was impressed. The workflow was smooth and impressive--I did not even have to get out of the truck! The whole process took around fifteen or twenty minutes. I have been to other oil change places over the years, but this one will now be my standard--the one I will judge all the others by. I will definitely be back. read more

I had good service at a Valvoline before so when my wife's car needed an oil change I sent her to this location. She pulled up to the service bay and the bell rang. Nobody greeted her. She waited patiently. A guy in a pickup pulled up next to her a few mintes later and he was immediately greeted. Still nobody came to talk to my wife. They made it clear they didn't want to help her so she left. If they were too busy to greet cars they would not have greeted either, but they they made the effort to greet the guy. Every time I visit this location, the staff is consistently kind and efficient. I truly appreciate that they don't pressure me to purchase additional services or upgrades, unlike some other places. They provide a printed or emailed list of suggested services but don't repeatedly ask me to have them done that day. I usually bring my toddler along for oil changes, and they are always extra speedy, keeping in mind that I have a little one in the backseat. I really appreciate that. While there was a 30 minute wait to start my oil change because there was some cars waiting ahead, once they got to me the process was fast (20 minutes) and they communicated what was happening every step of the way. Overall, it's a bit expensive for an oil change but if you use one of the coupons available through checking in on Yelp, Groupon, or another coupon then the price is reasonable - especially for how fast they do everything and the variety of things they check (fluids, lights, battery, etc) in addition to the oil change. Shaun was Amazing!! They went above and beyond for me, won't get into specifics but they did something for me that was bugging me about my car and it fixed it! Hyundai wanted 400$ to fix what took 2 minutes and some research to fix I just didn't have an air compressor to use, sat in my car and oil change literally took 10-15 min great experience and cheap too I used the 10$ off coupon on their website and a oil change was only 60$ and done in 15 minutes lol read more

Customer service is great, everyone is really nice however a simple oil change and the mechanic forgot to screw the cap back in so $140 oil change just went right down the drain. It's a good thing I checked on my car today or I would have never noticed. Sucks how I can never trust to take my car anywhere because the simplest things always get screwed up. Been a costumer for years but after my recent visit I won't be going back. Every time the group of guys just gets lazier and lazier. A few visits ago they replaced my battery but didn't connect it correctly and I got stuck in a parking lot because my car wouldn't start. Had to go back and have them fix the connections. This recent visit they seemed to be struggling with the oil change and before I got in line I asked for a tire rotation. I get into the lane they already start the oil change and I ask about the tire rotation the guy says this lane doesn't do rotations. I asked if I could get out of line then and wait to go into the correct lane. He said no they already started and I shouldn't get back in line after because it will be over an hour. Then tells me to go to Evans tires :/ My main reason for going wasn't an oil change it was a tire rotation lol waste of going here. Just to deal with lazy and creepy flirts. read more

Don't go here. I hate going to car places because they always lie and up-sell you especially if you are a woman alone. They told me I needed "European" oil. I didn't need "European" 100% synthetic would have been fine but they sold me the most expensive because I didn't research my manual before hand. Yes maybe my bad but still...common decency people! PRO TIP: Ask to print your receipt and thoroughly review it before you leave the bay. TOPSIDE told me (to my face) looked me in the eyes and said w/ a smile: "no major leaks were detected". Good to go. NOT! Four days later, an oil slick under my vehicle, and I discovered a persistent drip. So I printed the receipt, read thru the checks, see "Oil Drain Plug/Gasket: Not Checked. At NO TIME during the service was I given the option to approve or deny this check. (20 y/o vehicle I just purchased, turns out this is very important to check.) Should I have known? Maybe. Should they have known? 100%. THEN the Comments: **SEVERE ENGINE OIL LEAK DETECTED. Now I am incensed at the incompetence. I went back in to speak with management and to get the drain plug/gasket checked. Saturday it was busy and hot. I got in line, and I was surprised to find the Manager, Jorge, greeting everyone who was waiting there. (I figured that I would have to park and go inside to find management). He immediately recognized me from my review. He had read it, he had watched the video feed from that day, and he had called me to discuss but no answer. Jorge went on to acknowledge that mistakes were made, that he had spoken with the crew, and he offered me a full refund, which I accepted. He implored me to let him look at it personally due to the gravity of the issue. I agreed. He directed me into a bay with a different tech at the computer. When the same tech as before went in to work under the hood again, Jorge shooed him away and took over, as promised. He topped off all fluids. He took the drain plug/gasket I brought in and made sure it was secure down below and took pictures of it. At the end, he opened the hood again just to wipe down the motor. Jorge performed a masterclass in damage control and customer care/service. He takes pride in his shop and the quality of its service. Furthermore, he takes pride in representing VALVOLINE the company. He demonstrated true professionalism and poise. The five stars are for him. Thank you Jorge for making my day, kudos. P.S. Consider making the Safety Checks OPTIONAL. Takes up a lot of time and is really unnecessary in most cases. read more

They're very nice here, and they did a good job. I have to say the "15 mins." means once it's your turn. And since they expect you to "drive through" you're stuck sitting in your car until it's your turn, and then theoretically while they're doing your oil change. The last thing I want to do getting my oil changed is sit cramped in my car for 45 mins. - I'd much rather do errands or get something to eat in this busy part of Encinitas! Luckily, I only had to sit in my car for about 15 mins. waiting, and then they agreed that I could walk off and come back. That gave me only about 15-20 mins. to race off, but it was still better than being stuck in the car the whole time. So: good on oil change. The "stay in your car" is not such a great concept for everyone. But overall it was painless and friendly, even if more expensive than the one on Leucadia Blvd. read more

They will damage your car! I've had multiple problems there. First time they forgot to secure a skid plate, had to return for repair. Second time, they forgot to replace the oil filter support, resulting in a check engine light and had to return again for repair. Third issue they recommended and performed a transmission service resulting in a hard shift. I took it to Toyota to find that they used the wrong fluid... a $600 fix out of my pocket. This time, they stupidly removed the transmission drain plug instead of the oil drain plug and failed to properly reinstall it which resulted in me breaking down on the road. They assured it would be corrected, but refused toyotas recommended replacement, refused toyotas recommendation to pull the pan and inspect for damage and instead, had toyota flush and fill and then tried to tell me the vehicle was fine. Toyota told me it was drivable, but should be inspected for damage at a cost to me of $700+. Once completed, the pan was found to be full of metal pieces and valvoline is still refusing to fix the damage which is going to cost over $8,000 to repair. I highly recommend NEVER taking a vehicle to valvoline. The only thing they have going for them is location and wait time and it's simply not worth it. BEWARE! Update: The auto reply from their customer service below isn't helpful. I had called them prior to this review and all they do is set up a recorded phone call with the rude shop manager (Jorge) who just wants to talk over you the whole time while making incorrect assumptions, but when asked any direct questions replies with "no comment". read more
