Stay away....you're better off taking your car somewhere else in my opinion. Dropped my car off on a Saturday morning to have brakes replaced. Woke up Sunday morning to take my son to an early baseball practice and I had a completely flat rear tire. I hadn't touched my tires in several weeks, yet I check the PSI on them regularly. There was not a leak or any problems with the tire in question previously. Having to manually pump some air into it, enough to drive 5 mph to a Gas Station, when I finally got air into it, I could hear the air leaking out the valve. No one had touched my tires in the previous 24 hours except the folks at Midas. In addition, they replaced the rear tires backwards, so the car computer was reading left when it really was right. When I called the folks at Midas to explain both issues, you know what kind of customer service I got? They took absolutely ZERO responsibility for it and effectively said, "I have been doing this for 20 years and there is no reason for us to touch an air valve, it must be a coincidence. We're busy the next few days but we can try and get you in here after that in a timely manner to fix the sensors." Geez....thanks guys for "trying" to get me in there in the next few days, top notch service. Oddly enough, this is my second run in with them....last summer they charged me $600+ to fix an air seal problem in my A/C unit that was extremely audible to the ear when sitting/driving in the car. What happened when I got there to pick it up? The same noise still occurred the minute I drove away. When I returned and asked them why? They said it would go away eventually and wrote me a certificate for a free future Oil Change. (I took the car to Encinitas Auto Body who promptly fixed it in 1 day and charged me $150). Fool me once Encinitas Midas, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me. read more

I love these guys and have been using them for at least 10 years. I don't take my cars anywhere else. They are honest, fair, and competent. If they make a mistake, they'll admit it and will ensure that their mistake doesn't cost me any additional money. Case in point: Jeff Check, Store Manager, recently realized that they hadn't updated their database from my old Outback to my new Forester, and so mistakenly thought my new Forester brakes were covered under the brake warranty from my old Outback's brakes. Jeff admitted the mistake, but still charged me the under-warranty costs for the brakes. What more can you possibly ask for from neighborhood business? read more

I went to an oil change place to get my oil changed and inquire about the check engine light. They told me that the computer was showing that it was something with a catalytic converter -which is expensive to fix. Since it was an exhaust issue- my brother recommended I go to Midas. I then drove straight over to Midas to ask more questions and get a proper diagnostic. I learned that a vacuum hose was disconnected and I had a bad oil filler cap (why didn't the guys who just changed my oil see the disconnected hose or bad cap??). He recommended a new cap and some product to put in my engine first to see how that works. I appreciate the approach to first see if the low cost fix is effective in keeping my check engine light off. So far, very happy with the service at Midas and I recommend you go there first. read more

I stopped by the Encinitas Midas to ask a question about an issue with a loose muffler. The Ford dealership did not feel they could fix it and suggested I stop there instead. Within 5 minutes, they looked at my car, raised it, realized it was simply a loose bracket, and fixed it at no charge! I went to Midas to get the Check Engine light figured out. Jeff kindly requested me to pull the car over in front of the shop. Within two minutes, he was able to point out the problem after I had mentioned that the car went through an oil change and air filter change. He opened up the hood, and replaced the hose back into its original position. He grabbed the tool from the store to clear the error message. My experience was perfect. The engine light came on my Dad's truck (I've borrowed it for a few months) and was worried I'd be left stranded because it's an 04 Tacoma Truck with 113,000 miles. I called my dad to ask him what he wanted me to do. He said, "call a shop you trust." "WHAT!" Perplexed, I text a few friends asking if they knew someone, because I didn't know anyone, for the last 6+ years I've had company cars. My husband suggested I go to Midas in Encinitas, he has had great service. I called to make an appointment, but the Manager, Jeff (I think that's his name), said to come on in. While I was waiting for my the inspection and car to be fixed, I witnessed everyone that came to pick up their serviced car, and everyone appeared to be happy. Jeff, greeted everyone by their first name, as if they have been friends for years! One guy walked in wanting to get an oil change because he said he wanted to be loyal to this Midas location because he has had such a great experience in the past. That made me feel so at ease knowing that this Midas location had my best interest in mind. I had a sensor replaced and I was in and out within an hour! On a Saturday! This is the best shop I've ever been to. The staff was excellent and they know how to take care of you. I first took my car to the dealership and then here where they gave the same service for about half the price if not more! With new management including the manager, Jeff, you can't go wrong. I told him of my previous bad experience there several years ago. I almost didn't go there today. My Cadillac Escalade's brakes were feeling and sounding very bad. I expected, based on my life experiences, for this to be a $600-$1000 fix. Jeff took care of my problems for $442 including a lube, oil and filter service with all synthetic oil for $49.99. At a quick lube type of store, this would have been $70-$80. I didn't have any coupons, so Jeff reached into a drawer and pulled out a $50 coupon. He did everything he could to make up for my previous experience there. I got new rotors on the rear. Jeff showed me exactly what the problem was. He also showed me the front break pads which had a little cracking in them. This could have been an easy up sell, but Jeff said I may get a little noise with them, but other than that they should last a lot longer based on the small amount of wear on the pads themselves. I was extremely impressed and will return again when something else goes wrong. I don't know where I could have gotten any better service. I didn't even have an appointment. I got there at about 7:45AM and he had me out in about 1.5 hours. I just walked next door, had breakfast and when I returned the work was nearly completed. read more

Midas gave me a great price to install my new smog legal headers, I've been working on cars my whole life, and sometimes aftermarket parts can be a little bit of a bear to install, not only was Jeff courteous and polite but his price was half of what other shops had quoted me (knowing that I was going to get it done lol) and this isn't usually what I expect from corporate type shops. The headers were installed in a timely fashion , there was a small issue with the flanges seating correctly to the mid pipes( this is understandable being as the old exhaust manifold were a tad different and has been on my car for 166,000 miles, I call Jeff back and ask that he re torque the headers after I put about 500 miles on them, he took my car right in and report everything everything is as good as can be expected, I would also like to add that he did not raise the price at all when I went back to get my vehicle which would be the norm in a situation like this, great customer service great prices I would definitely recommend :-) read more

Midas has been so helpful to me time after time I visit. The first time I visited was because my car broke down across the street. Instead of having to get it towed, a mechanic met me to get my car started enough to move it to the shop. I then came back for my headlight. Instead of just jumping to a problem, they tried fixing a more minor problem to see if that helped, so I wouldn't be paying for unnecessary services. They didn't even charge me. Then my taillight went out and they fixed it in 10 minutes free of charge. I read the many good reviews of Midas here on Yelp, and I'm really glad I did. I brought my car in this morning needing my brakes checked. I had previously brought my car to another shop last week where they told me my wheel cylinder was leaking, and were asking for more money than I wanted to pay to have it fixed. I brought my car to Midas for a 2nd opinion but didn't tell them what the other shop had diagnosed; just asked them to check my brakes. They told me I needed new pads which I already knew. So I asked them about the wheel cylinder leaking and they said they hadn't seen a leak, and brought me into the shop to check it. Well it wasn't leaking at all ! I am so glad I brought my car to Midas where I got an honest diagnosis! The guys in the shop were so friendly and helpful. No hard sell; no trying to get you to buy something you don't need. In the past 2 years I have been to 4 other shops in the area for various types of work on my car, and have not been able to find one that is either honest or doesn't totally overcharge me for the work done; until today when I went to Midas.
