I highly recommend this Midas for service! My sister was visiting from New Mexico and had to start back home Sunday morning but her car was overheating Saturday afternoon. I strongly recommend bringing your vehicle to this Midas shop and be sure to ask for the owner - Jeff ... all of the other staff are also very knowledgeable. I needed a new catalytic converter and an O2 sensor as per the vehicle code. Jeff found that I also had a major crack in another part in the exhaust system. His prices were fair and reasonable (way under what 2 other shops wanted to charge me), and his staff were friendly and professional. Jeff worked tirelessly to get my vehicle repaired with minimal downtime on my end. I have been coming here for a few years for oil changes for a saab and also a dodge van. The van i bought used a few months ago and today I came in for an oil change but come to find out it had some other problems. Jeff and the mechanic were awesome in showing me and taking me through the problems, what was immediate and what the options were for the non immediate/comfort riding of the car. It is amazing that they were able to get parts and tires and everything fixed in just a few hours. It is really amazing, and I really appreciate the time and honesty here. This place is horrible. Company culture stuck in the 70's and they use really cheap products . Read the reviews from other people how the service is great. My experience stunk. Jeff the manager was nice to get my car in there but when I returned with some issues was a total Jerk. He asked who worked on my car and I mentioned the mechanics name. His reply? Oh he won't be here for long. Who the heck shares their HR issues with a customer? They would not guarantee the work and had me speak with the owner. Forgot his name as he did not listen to one thing I said on the phone. Told me it is my fault and hung up. Support the local guys in Encinitas and not some heartless complete rip off corporation .In my case they should have told me they could not have done the break repair without additional work. read more

My experience with Midas, Encinitas. Sorry for the long read, but I wanted to be detailed. Hopefully this helps. 10/09/10 I requested an oil change at Midas in Encinitas. They offered me a deal on a tuneup so I had that done as well. The next day I began hearing very loud thumping sounds from under the floor of the driver's seat. 10/11/10 I called complaining, but they defended saying their work had nothing to do with the new problems in my car which they worked on the day before. Midas said that I needed to have these services done to fix the problem: Replace AND Press new front wheel hub bearings left and right Replace front left and right hub bearing assembly BLEED BRAKES front left axle front right axle PCV Valve I asked what was the most important to fix and which would alleviate the noise (as I didn't have the $1,500 to cover all the costs). They said the bearings, but that both the axles need to be replaced soon as well. 10/16/10 Car was picked up on Saturday and on the drive home the noise returned, despite them saying it was fixed over the phone. 10/19/10 I informed them of this problem and dropped off the car. They said the bearings/axles weren't seated properly and apologized. They fixed the problem. 11/16/10 A moth later. the noise returned, but to a lesser extent. Still very audible inside and outside of the cabin. 11/22/10 I dropped off the car to be fixed and they said both axles need to be replaced, not the bearings. I reminded them of what they said previously that is was the bearings which caused the noise. They said they will fix the bearings 'No problem' if I get the axles replaced (The bearings are still under warranty). 11/30/10 I took the car to Bill Smith Automotive in Solana Beach for a second opinion. Fred at Bill Smith Automotive, said that the right axle should get replaced, but that the left was working fine. Also said that the bearings were shot and needed replacing as well. I allowed them to replace the right axle. 12/04/10 Took the car back to Midas to replace the bearings, but they said they will have to charge me for labor (despite being covered under warranty) read more

After we got there, we waited less than a minute, Mr brake asked Chris to get a light bulb from stoke and change it. we sat down with in 3 minutes, Chris was back and gave us our car keys and said everything is okay. This place is awesome! I needed a light bulb on my car replaced (one of the blinkers so I needed it done soon). I originally went to Pep Boys and bought the bulb and they told me they would change the bulb for $10 but I would have to wait at least 3 hours. I have two small kids with me so this wasn't an option. Called Midas and they told me to come on in. Arrived 5 minutes later, and they changed the bulb within 15 minutes. They didn't even charge me for the bulb or time to replace it. Amazing service, I will definitely be back! read more

I had some chattering in my (automatic transmission) truck acceleration from a stop for a couple weeks, and then had loud low frequency vibrations start on the freeway at high speeds when I was in San Diego for the weekend. I made a last minute appointment with them to get it looked at because I wanted to make sure it was safe to drive. Tim rode with me in the vehicle to experience the issues, and put it up on the rack and ran it in gear. They were able to show me my drive shaft was vibrating a little bit and the drive shaft stabilizer bearing was wearing out, causing the chattering and vibrations during acceleration and driving at higher speeds. It was almost closing time on a Saturday and I didn't have a lot of time and couldn't be without my truck. I decided to wait to repair it since it was safe to drive and I could replace the bearing myself. These guys were very kind, honest, and show you the problem on your vehicle. They have a sign that says, "Treat People The Way You Want To Be Treated" which I thought was in good taste. They didn't charge me a dime for the help and estimate. If the part had been in stock and it was earlier in the day I would have had them replace the bearing. I was very pleased for their help and to know what the issue was. read more

Jeff was great with me aside from the fact the tires he ordered took longer than expected. The person who took my payment was horrible with zero customer service skills. He was still doing administrative work for another customer after he asked if he could help me. Then, once he had the correct work in his hand, his only comment was that I had an expensive day. No thank you for coming, no going over what they had done to fix my vehicle, no showing me in my vehicle. He just took my payment and waited for my receipt to print. Had me sign, gave me my keys. Customer service is not this persons forte. Additionally, I purchased tires and they were not cleared up to make them look nice. Worst place ever. Will Never Come Back Here. Jeff sucks, he told me that I need to replace my timing belt, water pump kit, and it was going to cost me $1200. He told me that it looks like it has not been changed. So I called around and found out that the price for it was 900 to 1100. So I asked Jeff why he was so expensive and he said that they are very competitive at pricing out work, so when I told him about the other shops. He said they were lying and did now how long it would take to do it. I went to another shop in Encinitas and they said I did not need the kit he was talking about. I then went to the dealership and they said they just replaced this kit 10k ago, and it looked fine. So not only are they overpriced. They lied and told me I needed something that I didn't need. My girlfriend took her car here for service. They replaced valve cover gasket. Not long after noticed was still leaking. They replaced again for no charge. Yet again , same gasket started leaking. Finally took it to dealer who made same repair and haven't had any problems since. Midas also replaced the belt tensioner somewhere in there which in hindsight probably wasn't broken...just covered in oil. read more
