MIDA offers a bustling atmosphere inside with fresh and high quality Italian food. If you're coming here for a date night, it gets loud inside! DRINKS: The Secret Garden was definitely stronger than expected, I was hoping it would have been served on the rocks. It would've been better if it was topped with soda. It was good but I wouldn't get it again The Dante Piccante was way better. It's great if you like spicy margs. Served on the rocks with a perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and salty. 5/5. FOOD: You have to get the Arancini balls. It's a classic Italian dish and MIDA does an exceptional version of them. Creamy, cheesy deliciousness. The Carbonara was great, but could have been better. The pasta is high quality and tastes fresh, what you would expect from a good quality Italian restaurant. It was way more citrusy and less creamy than the carbonara I'm accustomed to. The eggplant parmesan was my favorite! It was crispy, and the san marzano tomatoes are packed with flavor. Expert tip: Get this with a side of Foccacia bread so you can dip it in the tomato sauce. The citrus almond cake was good, but not worth it IMO. I read similar things about their tiramisu. Maybe desserts is an area of improvement for MIDA. The service was fantastic. MIDA is mid, but good bang for your buck and a very cute and cozy space! I've come for dinner and brunch, would come again for dinner if someone wanted decent, slightly modernized Italian food compared to what's in the north end. Service was fast and I appreciated that they asked to course out the dishes so the table wouldn't get too full! Complementary bread - 4/5, slightly toasted on one side, fluffy and thick! Best part was the olive oil, super fragrant and savory! And they gave us a second round of bread to wipe up all the sauces! Arancini - 3.5/5, nicely crispy on the outside, super stretchy cheese on the inside, but a bit bland. The tomato sauce is SO OVERPOWERINGLY ACIDIC Mussels - 4/5, super plump and not over cooked! The roasted tomato pesto and Calabrian chili was a loose soup and didn't flavor the mussels much, yummy though. Glazed duck wings - 3.5/5, the luxardo cherry agro-dulce sauce was complex and fruity, with a mild gaminess, but overall tasted a bit burnt and crusty Crispy polenta - 2/5, the first bite of the corner was wonderfully crispy! But it's a giant bland hunk of polenta inside otherwise. The Gorgonzola scoop is funky n fun but doesn't pair with the polenta itself and you don't really taste the honey or lemon. Polenta was great dipped into the olive oil tg! Rock shrimp carbonara - 3/5, saw this on Instagram a bunch but was disappointed. I will say the shrimp were so bouncy and tender, some of the best I've had! But the pasta seemed over cooked and no longer bouncy. There was a strong bitterness, we think they grated lemon zest into the sauce but went too far into the bitter pith, the little meat bits helped cover this up. Probably wouldn't be able to tell it was supposed to be a carbonara. Short rib lasagna - 3.5/5, this is more like short rib pasta sandwich. I've had it for brunch and it's half the size as the dinner portion. Tasty cheesy top half, but the bottom half with the beef slab doesn't have a strong braised beef flavor. Any beefiness there could be is once again overpowered by the pool of highly acidic tomato sauce! It's so sharp!! Fried chicken sandwich - 2/5, holding the bread felt like holding a brick, somehow it was so stale. They used a lightly coated chicken breast, and so the whole thing felt dry and lacking succulence. Great salad though! Love the breadcrumbs on top for texture! Part of me is still curious about the gnocchi cacio e pepe, but after dining here twice, I don't think it would have lived up to my inflated expectations. read more

Came here last night for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend and was so excited. Definitely lives up to the hype! Service was so attentive and friendly, and we enjoyed our meals so much! We shared focaccia and arancini, and got the paccheri and gnocchi for our entrees. I would absolutely come back to try other dishes. The reason I'm docking a star is because there was nothing done for my birthday even though we had noted it on the reservation. Too much dressing and cheese honestly. 2. Focaccia: SUPER yum, 11/10. Delicious cheese and olive oil, bread was super moist! Mains: 3. Roasted Chicken: SO yummy! The chicken was perfection, so crispy, flavorful, and risotto was nice and creamy too. The mushrooms in it were also really good. 4. Came here for a birthday dinner! I made a reservation the same day since it was a Saturday evening but probably would have been okay to just do a walk in though it was nice to be seated right away. There's a patio for outdoor eating but it was warm out so opted for indoors. They have a very comprehensive drink menu and our waiter made sure to check if we had any questions periodically as well. They were very accommodating of our dietary restrictions and elaborated on potential sources of cross-contamination which was extremely considerate! They bring out warm bread with olive oil. You can also get a side as an appetizer, so we got the charred cauliflower. The sauce was really flavorful but I wish the cauliflower were a little more cooked. For the entree, we got the gnocchi cacio e Pepe and spaccatelli pesto. The gnocchi was soft and the sauce was bright and peppery. The pesto was actually a tomato pesto but still had a very basil forward taste. The drinks were also delicious. read more

Amazing gnocchi. It was so soft and melts in your mouth. The sauce had great balance, not too oily or heavy. The citrus in it added brightness to the sauce and lifted the entire dish. It left me wanting more gnocchi once I was finished with the dish. I also got the pistachio gelato but that wasn't as great. Tasted more like tub ice cream with some over frozen bits so I was expecting something better. That being said, my friends all enjoyed their dishes and thought everything tasted amazing. Service was top notch. We were seated outside without a reservation since it was a last minute decision to go to MIDA so it got a little chilly when the breeze kicked up but it was fresher than being inside. I think it was better than the Paccheri Bolognese, but didn't blow me away. The NORTH SHORE FRITTO MISTO was pretty good, flavorful and a good portion. The Tiramisu was good but not outstanding. I used to love this place and considered it my go-to spot for dinner, but my recent experience was deeply disappointing. First they sat us away from the designated seats within the gate...which is awkward and the outdoor ambiance missed the mark. You feel like you aren't within the restaurant. My guess is it is an effort to expand the space but there was room on the other end where we could have been seated instead. The service I can credit was good and attentive, the server was enthusiastic and personable. So that was a win and the 2 stars are for her. Sadly the food missed the mark tremendously. We ordered the carbonara and the tagliatelle. The sauces were watery and the pasta was drenched in them...which if you know anything about pasta in a hot liquid...it over cooks it. The food options were very limited compared to what I'm used to, and the quality just wasn't the same. It tasted nothing like the delicious meals I've had here before. I invited two friends to try it and it was a little embarrassing how much it missed the mark, put my knowledge of quality restaurants in question. It's disheartening to see one of my favorite places take such a downturn. I hope they can address these issues and return to their former glory. read more

The space is gorgeous, the food is good. We decided to get a few things to share and have some wine. We loved the Caesar and the frito Misti. However someone should educate the server regarding how to fire the courses. He coerced us to order all of our dishes at once and to "trust him". Ha what a joke! Our $34 short rib lasagna sat on our table getting cold as we were in the middle of enjoying our first courses. A friend and I decided to catch up after not seeing each other for a long time. We were spoiled by delicious food and our server, Mary. We started with the duck in cherry sauce which was dreamy and possibly the best duck I've ever had. The rock shrimp carbonara was incredible and we loved the special asparagus with hazelnuts. The ambience of the restaurant is very cozy and nice! Unfortunately, it's not great to sit at the bar in the winter because every time the door opens it's very cold so that's not great. Besides the point it was very nice atmosphere wise, and I enjoyed my drinks, the bartender made me a great drink and the wine after was nice as well. However, the food was just OK. I expected it to be a little bit more flavorful and higher quality. The salad kind of tasted like something that was prepackaged -- it wasn't super thoughtful. The pasta I think was actually made fresh, however, the actual sauce came in was lacking flavor and diversity as well. Maybe could've used something like a protein or mushroom, just for example. The service is decent as well. The people who work there are very nice, and pretty attentive for the most part. I've passed this place so many times and had been wanting to try it for a while now! Was so happy to finally go and support this Black owned business. Even though my friend and I went during a weekday, the prime dinner times were all taken, which was a little surprising, but the later time worked fine for us and I'm glad we were able to get a reservation anyway. The place itself is small, but the atmosphere is very warm and trendy. Service was great, and our waiter was super attentive. He recommended we try the mussels for an appetizer and they were delicious! The sauce they were in was so yummy and made for a great dipping sauce for the bread. My only complaint was that I wish the bread was a little softer, but other than that we really enjoyed this dish. For my entree I got the short rib lasagna which I very much enjoyed and highly recommend. The short rib was so delicious with the red sauce in the lasagna, and it was a very large, thick portion. I was only able to eat half of it, and then I took the rest home! It made for a great lunch the next day! Overall, I really enjoyed myself here and would certainly come back. I visited MIDA this past weekend as part of Dine Out Boston's restaurant week. There was a set three-course menu with a few options for each. The ambiance is classy but not formal. It's a smaller restaurant so when it's busy it can feel a tad cramped and be a little loud. The lighting is dim and moody in a nice way but the big windows facing the street can be distracting with grubhub pickups, Uber drop offs, and other intersection shenanigans. Our server was kind and attentive, though it took a little bit to get our entrees as the kitchen was apparently a little backed up. The meatballs were hands down the best thing we tried. Super flavorful, piping hot and covered in a delicious red sauce. 100% recommended! The whipped lemon ricotta was incredible. It came with focaccia which paired amazingly well, I just wish it came with one or two more pieces. The pistachio mint pesto was so good, I was sad when it was gone! The bucatini all'arrabbiata was good. Pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce had a little zest to it. The pangratatto crumbs were a little saltier than I like, though. But overall I was happy with this dish. The chocolate budino came with pomegranate gelato and it was marvelously decadent. This dessert was a bit small but loved every bite of it. Overall, I will absolutely be coming back to MIDA to try their usual menu. Great spot for a date night in the South End! read more

Recently got to try MIDA and I definitely enjoyed it. It's hard for me to find a good Italian place that is worth the price because my partner makes delicious pasta at home but MIDA was truly amazing. We had a reservation so was seated immediately and the staff was super nice. The ambiance was very homey but also seemed higher end. Our waiter recommended the mussels to us and they were delicious!! It was cooked very nicely and the sauce complemented the mussels well. The bread was toasted nicely and I loved having it to dip in the remaining sauce. I had the bolognese and it was one of the most unique bolognese dishes I've had. The sauce was super flavorful but not too heavy. I loved that they used the large shell pastas because not only was it boated in the sauce but the shells had sauce inside them making every bite a burst of flavor. The bread crumbs on top gave it a crunch. Overall loved the dish and the portion was a decent size too. My friend got the lasagna and she really enjoyed that as well. The portions were big so she got to take some home! I'll definitely be back again and really recommend you all to give this place a try! read more

I went here for my 21st birthday on 1/19 with a couple friends, and I am incredibly happy with my choice. I got the rock shrimp carbonara, which I honestly expected to be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be so outstanding !! The second I took a bite, it was all I could think about for that moment. The flavors were perfectly balanced and rich, while not feeling too heavy. The pasta was cooked to perfection: a nice al dente. The shrimp were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everything about the dish was good to the point where I can't possibly think of anything that could have been improved upon. For dessert, I got the tiramisu, which had a wonderfully airy and sweet cream underneath a perfect espresso soaked ladyfinger layer. Great experience with my first visit to MIDA! I am not the biggest fan of Italian food but I've heard amazing things about MIDA from people all around Boston so I decided to give it a shot. First impressions of this location was that it is super cute on the inside. There is warm lighting which makes the place feel super cozy and the tables are placed a good distance from one another so we didn't feel like we were pressed up against other parties. There is a good selection of items on the menu and we ordered their arancini, focaccia, short rib lasagna, gnocchi, and mango sorbet. The food was amazing! My favorites were absolutely the appetizers that we ordered, it was hard not to eat them all as soon as they came out. The short rib lasagna, though pricey, came as a large portion and the short rib was super tender. The bartender was super friendly and attentive; he was fun and went out of his way to take care of our group. The espresso martini was one of the best I've ever had. It was perfectly sweetened with a toasted coconut syrup that I never would have known was in it (there was no coconut taste) but that made it next level. The bartender gave us a little taste of the house-made syrup on the side and it was so yummy. Great spot for cocktails and apps at the bar or for dinner - the food looked amazing. Tonight, my partner and I ordered the rock shrimp carbonara, paccheri bolognese, and citrus almond cake for dessert - TASTE: 5/5 - everything was lovely. My carbonara was rich, but balanced w the lemon and prosciutto, and the broccoli rabe complemented the bolognese really well. So glad we got the almond cake; the almond flavor was strong and perfectly paired w the sweet fruit topping and hint of olive oil TEXTURE: 5/5 - the complimentary bread, w olive oil at the start of our meal, was soft on the inside w a nice, crunchy crust. Both pastas included pangrattato breadcrumbs, which added great texture, and the pasta itself was al dente. The restaurant itself is lovely. Warm and inviting interior, awash in natural light from the huge windows that are ideal for people-watching in the South End. In addition, our server was wonderful - very welcoming and efficient. The brunch food, however, was lackluster and quite cold. * MIDA Biscuits: 7/10 - good but not particularly mindblowing or special * Arancini: 6/10 - crisp on the outside, soft on the inside but not particularly punchy with any flavor; the only thing I could really taste was the fontina it was smothered in * Crispy Potato Hash: 7/10 - my main issue with this dish was that the eggs came out very cold and overcooked, akin to a hockey puck; the pork sugo was also a bit too salty and vaguely reminiscent of store-bought Ragu sauce * Gnocchi Cacio E Pepe: 7/10 - like the potato hash, this dish came out incredibly cold to the point where it had essentially congealed into a large squishy mass because of the pecorino cheese; it also seemed like the gnocchi were 90% ricotta Unfortunately, MIDA's brunch fare was, dare I say, a bit of a let-down. I have been to MIDA a couple times now, this location along with the Newton location. Normally I get the paccheri bolognese or the rock shrimp carbonara, with the north shore fruit to misto to start, which is their calamari. This recent visit, I tried the short rib lasagna and arancini. All of the food was solid, per usual... I will say the pasta was a little too al dente and the temperature of the food did not arrive to our table hot but more so warm. Otherwise, the flavors are always spot on and amazing; I just wish the food was more hot. Our server was kind and super helpful. If you are not in the mood for any alcoholic drinks, you can never go wrong with their shirley temple. This location gets pretty packed for dinner time, but the wait for table is never too long.
