Wonderful spot for dinner! We came for mangia Monday which was a LOT of food (had leftovers) but it was fun to try so many pastas. It seems like their mangia Monday pasta selection changes at times also. Overall, everything was quite salty and we probably could have gotten more bread to pair with the sauces. The service was very attentive aside from the long wait for the last pasta. The interior was quite nice although the lights kept getting dimmer and dimmer as the night went on. - north shore fritto misto (additionally ordered): humongous portion but not too much calamari or clam strips. A pretty coarse (cornmeal?) batter which isn't super crispy but everything was very flavorful. The fried cherry peppers were really tasty but almost too salty and acidic. The fried preserved lemons were pretty good but some pieces tasted bitter. - insalata mista: fresh lettuce with tons of crunchy bread crumbs and pistachios in a bright dressing - gnocchi cacio e pepe: tender and al dente gnocchi with lots of cheesy and pepper, tasty but almost too salty and rich - mushroom risotto: highly recommend, quite a large portion of creamy risotto with bacon (?) bits and a ton of mushrooms (shimeji?) - eggplant Parmesan: comes half portion for mangia Monday, pretty light tomato sauce with soft eggplant (not at all crispy or firm), also quite salty and would have paired well with bread - paccheri bolognese: my favorite pasta! Awesome spot. Came for the first time in mid August. Super busy so definitely recommend a reservation. The restaurant tries to limit timing on reservations so be timely - that was the one downside because at times it felt rushed. We enjoyed the cocktails, calamari, and short rib lasagna. The couple we were with loved their pasta dishes as well (see our spread). The restaurant split the lasagna for my husband and I which made it a reasonable portion per person. Great experience every time! Cannot go wrong with one of their signature cocktails, The Amalfi Coast. The frito misto and mussels are my favorite to start. For entrees .... I have yet to have one I don't like. The gnocchi is light, fluffy and filled with flavor, the short rib lasagna is a must, and when in doubt, the bolognese it is. Their pistachio gelato is the best in town and the tiramisu is incomparable. Always greeted with a smile and genuine hospitality. This place feels like home. read more

Mida has been on my list for a while so I'm glad that I finally got to try it! The restaurant is nice and airy, but sitting right by the window in the direct line of the sun was very sweaty and not a great experience. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive, we never had an empty glass. The north shore fritto misto came with fried lemon, calamari, cherry peppers, oysters, and clam strips. It was phenomenal!! Our entrees took very long, over 2 hours to come out, which wasn't great but we were given complimentary arancini to make up for it. The short rib lasagna was incredible, we were a little full from the apps, but inhaled every last bit of it. I'm personally not a huge bolognese fan normally, but they knocked it out of the park with the paccheri, which had bits of green herby broccoli rabe. Soooo much yes!! We were celebrating a special event and Mida went above and beyond to make sure we had a good night. We were seated outside promptly in fact even slightly before our reservation. Then the servers immediately brought us a free round! Nester (....I think that was his name) was light hearted yet attentive and gave excellent recommendations. We ordered the arancini as a starter and the paccheri bolognese and the short rib lasagna. HOLY MOLY THE BEST ITALIAN I'VE HAD IN A LONG LONG TIME. The secret garden cocktail was also delicious! Honestly no complaints here. Everything, the food, drinks, and the service came together in a most glorious and resplendent harmony. This was definitely one of my better choices. read more

I visited MIDA for the first time recently with a group of friends and we were all so happy with our meal! First, I must complement the amazing service there, we had originally made a reservation for an outdoor table and called them that day when the forecast has switched to rain - they immediately set us up with an indoor table even though no reservations had previously been available for one, and we were so happy they were able to accommodate us + the weather.   Now to the good stuff, the food and drink. MIDA's menu is really nicely sized - appropriate for diners with most dietary restrictions, but not too many choices such that you feel like you're reading a novel when you go to order. Also, be sure to take a look at what other folks are ordering when you walk in, the focaccia on the menu doesn't seem like much but oh boy when you spot that baby from across the room, you KNOW you'll be ordering one. Obviously we did wind up getting an order of focaccia and arancini to split and I really appreciated that even though the order may not have originally come with 4 slices/4 arancini, they served it like that for our group of four. HOLY CANNOLI everything was so tasty! That focaccia is the real winner here - crispy, herby, cheesy - she's got it all! Since the group was split down the middle half-vegetarian half-not, we opted to split 4 pastas (gnocchi cacio e pepe - veg, spaccatellei al pesto - veg, rock shrimp carbonara - non veg, and bucatini al amatriciana - non veg ) between the table for our mains. Although a couple of the dishes were a little spicy for one of our friends, the other three of us readily devoured everything! The highlight of the veg options was definitely the gnocchi and of the non-veg options was the rock shrimp carbonara - both were so full of flavor and very filling. The portion sizes were appropriate given the listed cost of each dish ($25-28).   We also really enjoyed their wine and drink selection! It was cool that they had a rotating wine and cocktail (when I went their wine was a nice light fruity red and the cocktail was a 'last word' which I don't see on the menu many places and really respected).   All in all, a lovely meal, friendly staff, and clean and welcoming ambiance, and some FIRE FOCACCIA! Service, decor, and vibes were great but we're here to talk about the food! Got to try a variety of food and while I wasn't blown away (except for 1 dish) - I was impressed enough that I'd definitely come back to try other things. The star of the meal was the carbonara. This was by far one of the best pastas I've ever had. This was a special so be mindful of that. It was advertised as a traditional carbonara to us but it wasn't really. It was lemony and salty packed with immense flavor. It had clams (which is optional) that I enjoyed and the guanciale was also really good. Meanwhile a majority of the other food was forgettable to me including the wagyu, foccacia (bland), the meats and cheeses plate, and campanelle. MIDA is a treasure in the South End! My husband and I were in town from LA for two weeks and loved it so much we went three times! The staff and bartenders are phenomenal. If you get to sit at the bar have Danny make you a drink or choose your wine. He is amazing. The short rib lasagna is insane. We also loved the prosciutto and ricotta, the bucatini and the focaccia. Great takeout experience from Mida during COVID! A strange thing was that we couldn't order our food via Doordash or Caviar in the morning, and had a hard time reaching the restaurant by phone to troubleshoot. Ultimately we were able to contact them via Instagram and they informed me that online ordering would be available during specific hours during their dinnertime. Once we figured that out, it was a great experience. We ordered the mangia madness (5 pastas, bread, and salad for two) - half of the pastas are naturally vegetarian, but the restaurant was really accommodating and was able to make some of the non-veggie dishes vegetarian. This was such a treat as we often shy away from fine Italian dining because of the vegetarian limitations. All 5 pastas we ordered was very tasty and well packaged on delivery. The eggplant parm was quite salty but we still polished it off. Two of us ate quite a lot and we still have leftovers! Excited to return. read more

Great place for a special occasion or when you want to treat yourself! I'm sure you cannot go wrong with any of their drinks or food. The Secret Garden (drink) was both tasty and strong. For my entree, I got the short rib lasagna, which had a lovely breaded crust on top and a generous amount of sauce that enhanced its presentation. The portion sizes were pretty good too, as I was able to bring half of my lasagna home despite being super hungry when I arrived. Enjoyed the vibes but happy to report that it's also okay if you're not dressed up in your nicest clothes. It was super busy even at 8pm on a Wednesday night, so definitely would recommend making a reservation (I made mine one day in advance). I was visiting Boston for work and my friend recommended we have dinner at this Black owned Italian restaurant called MIDA and I was so glad she did!! When she said it was Black owned I was super intrigued and couldn't wait to taste all the things! It was 7 of us so we ordered apps for the table to share before our entrees. Everything was delicious! The caesar salad was so good that we ordered it twice lol! The entrees were immaculate! Not one complaint at our table! The playlist kept us grooving throughout the night. I still can't get over the delicious bolognese! And of course we had to end the night with dessert! The tiramisu and citrus almond cake stole the dessert show! But my after dinner drink was the real star! The La Cioccolata! I had a time learning how to say it LOL but it was one of the best tasting things to ever grace my palate! Delicious! Service was great and our waiter was super helpful. Drinks were also good, but wasn't amazing. I did order their drink special of the day and it was a sweeter version of an old fashion, didn't really hit tho. The dessert tho, just make sure you order some. Delish. I do think the brisket lasagna was a good item to try out and it was very good, butttt I think it could've had more flavor to where the brisket wasn't too overbearing, but I think it's still worth trying especially if you love brisket. Also it is very congested inside, not much room and they do have a time limit of 90 minutes they try to hold you to. We felt a bit rushed, but again, service was very friendly and their food is worth the visit so of course they want to try to seat as many people as they can in a timely manner. I believe we did get to be seated longer than 90, but didn't want to overstay our welcome too much. I definitely want to come back to try a couple of other dishes I didn't get to try, but I'll probably be going to their new ocean front east Boston location which seems more like my vibe read more

Had such a disappointing experience celebrating a birthday at MIDA on a Saturday night. We had a reservation, but weren't seated until 30 mins past our reservation time without much of an apology from the staff. We were 10 minutes early, as they have a strict 15 minute grace period, so we waited 40 mins in total. Several other parties also waited well past their reservation time. Came to Mida for their Mangia Monday which is a special they run on Mondays. For this special you're supposed to get 5 FULL sized plates of pasta, a salad and bread. All of the food was phenomenal, even the salad. But we were quite disappointed in the size of the pasta servings as they were not full sized plates. They were probably about 30-40% smaller. I still think we got a good deal but we were just excited to over stuff ourselves on pasta and that just wasn't the case with these portion sizes read more

The first was for a special occasion, and our lovely waiter brought us a glass of dessert wine to finish our meal. Mangia Pasta Monday is a MUST for all you can eat pasta! For my last plate they unfortunately brought the wrong order, but they're all so delicious I didn't even mind. Romaine salad- perfectly crisp and acidic Lobster scampi- a favorite of mine. Buttery, generous serving of lobster, and fresh Carbonara- very rich (which could be good or bad depending on your palate), plenty of cheese, and flavorful Gnocchi- a little softer than I'd prefer, but flavors were great Bucatini- a bit acidic, and the pasta texture was a little hard. On the lower end as far as pasta goes Bolognese- my favorite pasta dish, it never disappoints! Pasta is perfectly al dente with just enough chewiness. Broccoli rabe and bread crumbs adds a great crunch. Texture and flavor is spot on Tiramisu- so fresh and delicious, an absolute must And they deliver! Seamless, well packaged, and easily disinfected. We were not that hungry, so we only got two entrees, but next time I would come back for the Arancini, Mussels, and the Tiramisu because of the rave reviews. Paccheri Bolognese (4/5): this dish was super light, and not like a traditional bolognese, but still really good! Even though it was not traditional, I really enjoyed the nuanced flavors of the dish, the slight bitterness of broccoli rabe really came through and there was a light pepperyness that really elevated it. Would definitely recommend! Short rib lasagna (5/5): if you get anything else here, GET THIS!!!! This was absolutely delicious, as someone who is typically not a lasagna fan. Unlike the bolognese, the portion size for this was huge and due to how packed it was, it was very filling (had half of it leftover for later!) Every part of this was balanced, it was not overly cheesy or overly saucy like some lasagnas. I've never had short rib in a lasagna before either but this was a perfect combo. Truly amazing! Overall: This was my second time coming to this restaurant for dinner. The food was consistently amazing and both experiences were delightful. 10/10 would come here again! Food: The food here is absolutely amazing. I love their gnocchi and their lasagna, however my friends have ordered their other items (equally as amazing). You have to get the Sicilian Mussels if you like some seafood! The server gave us complimentary bread (during our entree course) so that we could soak up the remaining sauce from our dishes. Service: The servers here are always on top of it! They check in enough to make sure everything is going well without overwhelming us. The servers also do a great job of recommending food, so don't hesitate to ask! Ambiance: The overall aesthetic of the restaurant is very picture worthy. The lighting inside is great for a date night and the volume level of the restaurant is minimal, making it great to hold conversations. Mida served up the dinner that I wanted in Boston. I had originally found this restaurant when I did some research on restaurants to check out in Boston. I typically do not eat at Italian restaurants, but I decided to check this place out based on word-of-mouth. I had reservations for Mida set up for a week prior to visiting Boston. Street parking can be a bit difficult around this neighborhood, so I ended up going earlier than my reservation time. When I arrived, the hostess was able to have us seated at the bar to order drinks until our table was ready. Within a few short minutes of sitting down, we were able to sit at our reserved table, 20 minutes ahead of schedule. I am thankful for how accommodating the restaurant was to us. After we sat, it did not take long to have the drinks that we ordered served to our table. We were able to get our appetizers in. We ordered the ARANCINI and MARINATED OLIVES. The olives were pretty good, but the ARANCINI was phenomenal. The ARANCINI are fried rice and cheese balls. This is definitely a must order to start your meal at Mida, in my humble opinion. The sauce complimented the fried cheesiness. As our main plates, we ordered the SHORT RIB LASAGNA and the BUCATINI ALL AMATRICIANA. The lasagna was a very generous serving. You can eat plenty while at the restaurant and still have enough left over to take home. It was very filling and appropriately priced. The bucatini was pretty good as well. It was the perfect portion and the pasta was pretty thick. It was enough to leave me satisfied, without feeling stuffed. To end our meal, we ordered a tiramisu to share. Typically, I am not a fan of tiramisu, but decided to try it out at this restaurant. To my surprise, the tiramisu here is amazing! This was honestly the best tiramisu that I have ever had. When they bring the tiramisu to the table, they pour a shot of espresso over it, which adds a nice touch to the experience. The combination of the espresso flavor, the sponginess of the dessert, and the slightly-sweet cream all came together really well.
