I came along on a trip here with my boyfriend, who swears by this place for all his computer-y needs. (Can you tell I am not a technical person?) However, I thought this store was really cool. Once you come in and your eyes adjust to the insanely bright lighting, look around to see everything they've got. We were in the market for keyboards, and there's a whole aisle. But there are also TVs and home theater, computers and tablets, cameras, assorted electronic "bits and pieces," a section of games, and more. Beyond electronic goods, there was also a small array of snacks like Pocky and Bawls energy drink in half a dozen flavors, for you hungry computer geeks. I even found a USB cord for my fussy phone! A lot cheaper than it would have been at the Verizon store too, I betcha. Service was really helpful, and my boyfriend says this is mainly why he keeps coming here...and why they have probably outlasted some of the other brick-and-mortar electronics stores. When he went to buy his keyboard there had been a tag on the shelf for a mail-in rebate but it didn't ring up. They worked with him at the customer service desk to make it right. It was time for me to replace my 10 year old MacBook. I originally tried to go to the Apple store, but the wait time to get into the store was over 2 hours, and I found out they didn't even have the product I wanted in stock. My husband recommended Micro Center to me - I had forgotten about Micro Center, and was mad I hadn't thought about heading over sooner! My husband bought a laptop and a TV from this location in the last few years, and we had a great experience both times. Sales associate Sam helped me with my purchase. He was busy juggling a few customers, but was extremely attentive and answered all my questions. He was knowledgeable on the product lineup, and helped me decide on the right Mac laptop for my needs. After I asked about it, he recommended the Microsoft 365 software and virus software. I never felt pressured to buy these extras, I actually had to ask about them first. The prices at Micro Center can't be beat! The laptop itself was $125 off, and the Microsoft 365 software was 50% off (with the purchase of a new computer). If I would have shopped through Apple, I would have spent an additional $200. All in all, I was in and out of the store in under 45 minutes. Forget the Apple store, I will be shopping for everything tech related at the Micro Center from now on. I normally go to the Rockville MD or Cambridge MA stores, but was in the area and needed some kit. they had the kit. the salesman who latched on to me was helpful, and seemed to know enough to help. I've used this store before when passing through, and they tend to have what I need, although they have dropped Bose single ear headsets, which is a loss, but that might be because bose does not make them, and they don't have LG headsets anymore. But, they have all kinds of cables, and disks, and printers, and supplies, and at check out they have some magazines you should not buy because you do not need them. The pc wasn't built right. The communication was terrible. They installed the pc with " other os " as setting instead of UEFI and tried to defend it. Then gave me the run around saying itd be 3 weeks. After " fixing it " everything on my pc i had worked on over the 2 weeks i owned it was wiped off completely i was told there was no way to transfer anything. The IO shield was loose and moved a bunch which could explain why my mouse and keyboard couldn't be detected. I was told that's normal when you build a pc. I've spent a total of 12 hours driving to and from micro center and multiple more hours in the store for a pc that was built terribly and when i recieved the "fixed pc " it was just set in front of me and the employee walked away ( with another customers pc just left on the counter from 20 minutes ago ) both times i picked up my pc nobody asked for a receipt or id or anything. I hope nobody has to go thru the experience i did. When i asked what technician put it together i was told it didn't say. Very unprofessional about the whole situation. Now I'm out $250 and over a dozen hours of my life wasted not to mention $100 in gas going back and forth since nobody knows how to communicate and they won't call you on the phone. I spoke with someone at another microcenter about my experience, they said there's no excuse for not doing the UEFI and the fact they tried to talk their way out of it and say itIl be 3 weeks just shows exactly what to expect when purchasing a pc to be built at this store. I'm building my first rig and I came to find out why I could not get power to my motherboard, Ofcourse I fried it..... so I was able to exchange it because the store has great warranty and insurance plans! I reserved two items online for pickup and my mom went for me, so I didn't experience it first hand, BUT: she was so incredibly happy and pleased by her time there. The staff went out of their way and asked for her information and if she wanted to stay in her car in order to practice social distancing. They had perfectly organized lines and the cashier was protected from contacting customers, and everything moved so smoothly. TWICE, they sold me computer monitors with no sound, even though I made it very clear that it was a required feature. This has taken way too much of my time driving back and forth to return products. I came here for a new desktop a year and half ago, for a new job, and although there were technical issues with what I had received, the professionalism in which they handled my issue was exemplary. I had spoken to a manager explaining the issue, which it turns out they were aware of. I had a problem with the "live" inventory system. Drove 20 min to buy something that was not there. Was told it would be in the morning the next day it was not. I was distraught. They had every other keyboard in the steel series except the Apex 5 I wanted. I relayed my story to one of the managers. Explained that this was not what I had come to expect from Microcenter. They immediately resolved my problem and took EXCEPTIONALLY good care of this loyal client by upgrading me to the Apex 7 at a bit of a discount. Ah, Micro Center... I love you. I used to build PC's and wireless networks and these guys were the bomb for tools and parts. Think "Office Max for the nerd crowd".... these guys are the best. Today was the first time I went into the Westmont location and it was as nerdily awesome as every other Micro Center. Today's visit was unique because I'm now a 20+ year IT veteran and I've got zero patience for anything bulls**t or upselling. I was also in a horrible mood because I was swamped with on-call issues and my laptop charger died. I walked in on the warpath, and the associate Matthew wasn't afraid to help me out despite the look on my face. I needed a charger for my ThinkPad... I'm sure I snapped at the guy at least once (all my fault because of my mood)- and he got me what I needed from the shelf, tested it on my laptop, and got me out in 15 minutes. Totally professional and efficient- exactly why Micro Center is still and always the best. Only suggestion to management: the ties these guys wear look kind of silly in 2018. How about polo shirts and khakis? Or even cooler (in the nerd way)- work shirts with Micro Center patches on them? I'd buy one if you sold them. To non-nerds... come here for your computer stuff. While they have a rather sophisticated system for controlling store capacity due to covid19, via QR code and texting you for authorization into the store...once inside it is quite chaotic to say the least. There is definitely no system of distancing by any means and the lines to checkout and pick up internet orders not only merge together but are packed with people in lines and certainty NO DISTANCING IS CONDUCTED NOR MONITORED BY STAFF. I felt very uncomfortable due to the winding lines and extreme closeness of people...will not be returning anytime soon! No one was abiding by the 6 ft distancing rule. System is deceiving given protocol to access the store versus once you are permitted inside. A great selection of computer products and helpful staff, however. read more

If you want to build your own computer I'd tell you to come here before going online and purchasing some thing. We just had a gaming computer built here and they did a fantastic job and in a very timely manner. I like that if we have computer problems we can always come here for help. Absolutely phenomenal experience. I was attempting an SSD upgrade of a laptop I had just purchased only to discover that the M.2 screw was so dang tight I couldn't get it out without stripping the screw. I tried absolutely everything. Desperate, I brought it in to Micro Center. They listened to my problem, asked a couple of questions, and brought the laptop back behind the desk. They get you to buy and accidental warranty that is supposed to cover drops and falls and spills. I dropped my laptop last year when I was in college, and it always turns on and off randomly while I'm using it. I brought it in here two different times they kept telling me nothing was wrong with it, when obviously there was. My sister also bought a computer from here and the touch screen wore out and when she brought the problem up-to to them they said they are waiting for parts to come in and its been almost two and a half months now and they keep coming up with more excuses they are a straight fraud of a repair service. I brought in my computer to be serviced Westmont location on 9.6.2023. Let me begin with it was external issue laptop screen could not be closed the hinge was unaligned. I was told there would be a 49.00 diagnostic charge, I confirmed there was no issue with the internal computer performance of internal computer was in tack. In order for the computer to be looked at by a tech I paid the 49.00 dollars. I was provided a receipt and the following information it would be 3 to 5 days for tech to look at it and provide me a quote as to how much it would cost to repair. With direction that if anytime I needed status or information pertaining to this repair, Micro Center provided a direct line to tech/repair department, along with an additional number if customer would prefer texting, along with online website in real time on the progression of the repair. Sounds good so far right? Nope not even close. It had been about 7 days no word no estimate to repair, so I called that number "they" provided to call and speak with a tech, on the status and why i had no quote on the cost to repair, I at least called a dozen times and the line rings off the hook, no one answers at the number Micro center provided, so I texted "them" which is a different number only texts, no response, 48 hours later no response. So I searched for a main number to the store as no where on the receipt does it have the stores direct number. With much frustration I was able to find another number, the person I spoke to patched me to the the tech/repair department. I inquired as to why the number they provided me just rings off the hook, reply we are short handed, I inquired about my text, reply we usually reply with in two hours, but again they are short handed. I asked to speak to the tech who was handling my repair he is out to lunch, but he assured me the tech would return my call by end of business day, guess what no call back, no text. The following day a reply via text $245.00 to repair, I texted back with additional questions, was that quote out the door and what kind of guarantee would be provided, again no reply. So begins another day of phone calls, checking website, texts. I finally made contact with a live person he answered my questions and I gave him approval to move forward with repair. Two weeks later no computer but they did order a part first was told the part was broken than was told it was not the right part. This soap opera has yet to be resolved it has been ongoing. Micro Center may sale excellent products, competitive pricing, and knowledgeable sales people, but if you need something fixed buyer be warned. Computer repair is a whole other animal. Moral of the story: they fail to communicate, when they do communicate it is misinformation, commitments are not met, lack of follow up, and their wonderful process to stay in contact with customers at all times via special phone number, or text, or via their web site, yeah no not so much, good luck with that. You know, for years I have shopped at Microcenter. I don't do so often, but when I do, I am never disappointed. Not to mention, I always get more than what I came for. I had to come in on 7/10/18 because I accidentally broke my laptop, so I was in the market for a new one. What drew me to them was that they had a refurbished HP laptop, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, for $299.99. Almost the same model that I already had. So, I bought it, got it home, and everything is working beautifully! Some people do not want refurbished, but hey...long as it works well, has certain specs, and can accommodate all my files, I'm good! This Microcenter location seems to be hit or miss for a lot of people, but I can say over the years, I've had good experiences and good products. I even had my good friend purchase computer parts from here individually a while back to build my wife a gaming computer, and that computer STILL works. Overall, when you walk in, the store is brightly lit, and someone is always around to help you. Product display is pretty good...though from time to time the shelves can be a bit dusty. Anyhow, if you need anything computer-related, give Microcenter a try. I haven't been disappointed yet.
