A nice Target that's located on the perimeter of the Yorktown Shopping Center. Large, bright, airy space with plenty of room for navigating shopping carts through the aisles. It's neatly laid out pretty much the same as any other full-size Target. All the shelves are well stocked with plenty of merchandise. It's not a SuperTarget, which means that they only have a limited grocery section.

Big, bright, clean Target and like most Targets nowadays it's understaffed. It's hard to find someone who isn't too busy to help and there's often a wait to check out. I can find what I need sometimes, eventually, but it's easier to shop Target online. However, once online, I can compare Target to Amazon -- I'm not sure they realize they lose business this way. Anyway, I've been to worse Targets, I've been to better. This one is kind of fair to middlin.

They always seem to have what I need. Checkout is not optimally staffed, it's hard to juggle self checkout with a full cart and a toddler.

You've got to be quick in the outlet if you like something! We found a couch that we liked reasonably well (it wouldn't have been my ideal color but for such a hefty discount from list price we would accent it with colorful pillows and deal), but we wanted to check one other place and also grabbed lunch, which all told took about an hour. Came back and the only couch that was gone was...that one! It wasn't meant to be, obviously, but I couldn't believe how fast that moved. They have lots of options for living room, dining, bedroom and outdoor furniture with a modern aesthetic. Not as big a showroom as the one in Chicago, but the addition of the outlet is a bonus here.

This experience really changed how I feel about shopping with Room & Board…read more I understand the outlet model. I understand inventory turns over quickly. I understand that outlet purchases have to be made in person and that items can't be held. What bothered me was the refusal to answer a very basic question: "Is the item still there?" I live downtown Chicago. After renting a car, I had driven out to the outlet and found several pieces I liked, but couldn't immediately make another trip. I called because I didn't want to drive all the way back out there for nothing. I was told they don't provide outlet inventory information because it could create a "domino effect" with people calling about items that may sell before they arrive. I understand that inventory isn't guaranteed. But I'm not asking for a guarantee. I'm asking for information. "It's currently here, but it may sell before you arrive" would be completely reasonable. Instead, the answer was essentially that they simply won't tell you. I even tried going to the Room & Board location near me to see if someone there could call the outlet and check. I was told no five different ways, each response becoming more and more unacceptable. And that's when I thought: This isn't really about inventory anymore. This is about customer service. I was already a potential buyer. I was willing to make the trip. I was trying to figure out whether it was worth making the trip. Instead, I went home and started looking elsewhere -- and found comparable pieces online that were easier to purchase and had more flexible return options. So yes, maybe this is simply Room & Board's business model for its outlet. But customers are also allowed to decide that the experience isn't worth it. I'm perfectly willing to accept "We can't hold it." I'm perfectly willing to accept "It may be gone by the time you arrive." What I don't understand is "We won't even tell you whether it's there." That's not a great customer experience, and it's enough to make me take my money somewhere else. And maybe that's the point but that's another issue I don't care to tackle here.

There are so many places to shop for and purchase furniture it can be overwhelming and confusing…read more I've driven by Penny Mustard many times and to be honest I was drawn in by both the company's name and the sign in the window advertising 93% American Made. Purchasing American is important to us and it is very difficult to find furniture that is still crafted in America, even the most recognizable name brands in home furnishings have off shored manufacturing. I'm glad we found Penny Mustard and Cathy O. She was not just friendly and professional, she listened closely to what we were looking for and guided us to the right products for multiple rooms in our new home. Hands down the quality of the furnishings is the best on the market and most are crafted, not just in America but right here in the heartland. The best part is the pieces are often custom crafted just for you and to your exact specifications. It is an investment, but the best value for the quality of craftsmanship. The outstanding customer service continued after the sale. I can confidently recommend Penny Mustard as your first stop when furniture shopping.
