I came in this past weekend to pick up my online order and the lady at the register was so rude for no reason. I didn't get her name but she is an older, heavy set woman. I walked towards the back register where she was sitting because the pick up sign was right next to her. When i gave her my name she says, "so you know, you can go to any register to ask for your order" in confusion i responded, "well i walked over to you because the pick up sign is right here" she then says, "it's actually over there"(she points the sign behind her. Like the register next to her but no one was there so i assumed she was in charge of pick up orders) There were only two registers open, no one in line. i guess me interrupting her sit down time while on the job was too much for her to handle. Rude and snippy for no reason. if you hate your job then don't work there. If sh would have worded it differently i would have no issues. It's all in the tone and way you speak to others. Was a frequent shopper here but their customer service has really steered me away. For a company this big, you would expect better customer service. I reccomend you shop at the painted tree next door instead! I bought a rug here last week, and although I have my rewards account, they of course weren't able to pull it up. I'm not one to lose receipts and of course my husband accidentally threw this one away. Well, I needed to return this rug that looks terrible once laid out, and we paid $50 for it last week, now this week they wanted to give $29 store credit. Are you kidding me? Every so often, I run upon a retail spot that makes my heart pitter patter. I think the last great store that had that effect on me was Charming Charlie. I'm happy to report that I have fallen heart-skip-a-beat, head-over-heels in love with this World Market. The fact that I'm not at this World Market every single day is a crime. Someone lock me up! This store has everything that I could ever possibly desire. They have accessories, jewelry, furniture, food, wine, beer, house decor, seasonal items GALORE! It's cray cray how much time I could have wasted here. I've been wanting a pashmina type scarf for a month (which is like two-years in Courtney time) and put it on my Christmas list. I knew that no one was going to get it for me 'cause that's just the way my Christmas list always works, so when I saw World Market had a cute and SOFT infinity scarf, I had to buy it. It's a royal blue and matches my winter coat perfectly. They had tons of other jewelry and accessories that I wanted to buy for myself but had to resist since it was Christmas time. The wine and beer selection is off the freaking chain. I wanted to get my in-laws some really decent wine for as cheap as possible and I knew that World Market was the place to go. I looked for all the 90+ point wines and knew that they'd be perfect for the wine-o's that they are. I liked that they had all the wine information by each bottle telling you about the flavor, pairings and its point rating. I'm not a wine expert by any means and usually just resort to a bottle of Boones Farm, so this was helpful in trying to buy for a more experienced drinker. They also have an awesome selection of beer. When I was in Austin, I fell in love with Shiner Bock--one of the only beers that I've liked so far-- and they had that! (Side note, I looked it up on a beer rating website and it has a HORRIBLE grade. Probably explains why I like it then!) They also had Rogue and various other craft beer that my hubby always buys so I was a good wifey and picked him up some. I loved that they had the Beers of the World gift set too because that always makes such an awesome/easy gift for beer drinkers. Also, mad props to the cashier for giving me an additional coupon that she had. I love when cashiers do that. Even if it only saves you $3, it's $3 more in my pocket that I can spend across the street at Jamba Juice. read more

I love World Market!! I go here when I am looking for new furniture or some bubble bath! They have such a wide range of items from all over the world-seriously. One of my favorite things to shop for when I go here is alcohol and coffee. They have such a huge selection of wines especially ones that you cannot buy anywhere. They even have Saki! I'm not a huge beer drinker, but they also have a huge variety of beers from all over. The coffee is also so fantastic. I love getting authentic Columbian coffee from here. It is also important to note that these are not that expensive either! There are definitely some very affordable options! Another thing I really love about this store is the cheap jewelry. I have a lot of rings and earrings that I sometimes get for only $4 or $5 and they don't feel that cheap. I would also recommend this store to people looking to redecorate their homes! They have rugs, lamps, couches, and throw pillows! They also have a large selection of kitchen items. When I moved into an apartment, I got all my mugs and some other kitchen silverware, cups, plates and other knick knack items to decorate my kitchen with. Overall, I suggest World Market to anyone! I highly recommend going straight to the back of the store to check out the sale items then make your way up to the front of the store. Also, definitely utilize the staff! I was so sad when Cost Plus closed their Orland Park location. Since I have been in a feather my nest type of mood lately, I thought I should make the trip to the other Cost Plus, the Oakbrook store. The ride was worth it. What a great place to shop. While i did not find the sidebroad I was looking for, they still have a nice variety of furniture at reasonable prices. I will keep them on my short list for home furnishings. I did purchase a wonderful pumpkin Halloween wind chime, at 50% off - score! The food and wine section is fun and not at all expensive - love the imported candy. Be prepared to use all your defensive driving and walking skills in this parking lot. I came in looking for furniture not even knowing that it's called World Market because of the fact they have stuff here from all over the world. Employees are nice and the international selection is good but a bad experience knocks the rating down a little. I was buying alcohol and the cashier didn't believe it was me in my ID. (This is understandable since my hair is a different color and I'm not wearing glasses in the photo.) She called the manager over and the way he decided to verify if it was me was by taking my ID and asking me my weight and height. It was super uncomfortable and not at all necessary, a simple look at my credit card would've been proof of my identity and I wouldn't have had to awkwardly say my weight out loud in front of the entire check out line. read more

I was there early afternoon one day and while there were several employees busy stocking shelves it was impossible to get anybody's attention to assist. Cashier a checkout was great and very helpful. The holidays are a stressful time for everyone but it's not a good business practice to act annoyed and frustrated when a customer dares to check out in your line and then further dares to ask a question. Also, we were subsequently overcharged and didn't want to further annoy the employees so chose to leave. We will be returning item at another location tomorrow. Other than that, the store was clean and their organization really just serves to push you through the maze of products several times. This is a good location of a good store chain. Pretty much the best home goods store for impulse shopping. You can walk in with no shopping list and walk out with bags of things you didn't know you need -- and probably don't. The beer selection and inexpensive gourmet snacks are well-represented and affordable. While World Market is famous for its wine, I've never been impressed with it -- mostly cheap, sweet, "girlfriend" style Merlots, etc. The large furntiure (sofas, tables, bar sets) are overpriced and flimsy, but the small furniture (chairs, side tables, hammocks, etc.) is well-contructed and reasonably priced. Best place to shop if you need wicker baskets; they have a whole wall full of them. Your wife wants you to take her shopping here. So do it. read more

What a fun place to browse and shop! Various food options and candy from all over the world. The wine selection is amazing, they even break it down base on taste buds. Employees are extremely friendly and helpful! I score a huge saving by taking advantage of their Summer Sale on selected wine, buy 4 or more bottles and save 50%! I'm making sangria in a few weeks and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg so I opted for 4 bottles of Thistle Dew, Chardonnay and my total came out to ONLY $10.73, awesome! Nothing but fun here! I go here just to walk around and look for cool unusual gifts and treasures! Most items are imported from other countries, very ethnic type items. I love going there for the huge ass wine/beer section. I dont really care how the wine tastes but if it has a really fun label it draws me in.Thats how I purchase a wine...Is the label is colorful or has an animal on it, I'm sold! After the wine section I travel over to the extensive tea and ethnic food section.They carry a ton of delicious infused olive oils!After that I hit up the knick knack section. Really, really bad attitudes from every cashier. Used to shop here occasionally, and would instantly be brought to peace every time I walked through the doors; now I just tense up. The past two times I've come in, I've had really terrible experiences. My main problem was with one of the cashiers, whose name I believe was Clare! :) She waved us over to her register without saying a word. We had to clarify that she was communicating with us, and she just nodded. We walked over still not a word. I happened to pick up something that didn't have a barcode on it. My mom and I were very light hearted and jokey about the fact that we managed to pick the one out of 10 or so without a barcode. Now this came from the art aisle which is the aisle closest to the doors/register. Not to be entitled or anything, but I've worked in retail for a hot minute and if a customer grabbed something without a barcode, I would happily run and grab them another one. Instead she interrupted another woman who I believe to be the manager, (who was almost as unpleasant as her), while she was on the phone, and told her "I'm gonna need a bar code". Girl..... The woman who I believe to be manager proceeded to say "Well I'm gonna have to look it up".... Like I said the item was not very far at all from the register so I'm not sure what the disconnect was there. I don't work there and I know the general area of where they keep things, just needed to grab a new one. As my mom goes to grab a new one from the aisle herself, so she could scan it rather than having her terrible manager finish her phone call, and then "look it up", this girl decided to give my mom a look that was just appalling. I grabbed my mom and we walked out. I ended up coming back a little later and purchased the item from a different cashier, because I refused to let that girls absolutely disgusting attitude ruin my shopping trip. If you don't like your job, literally every single other store in that strip mall is hiring. Another thing I noticed is no matter how long you've been walking around, even if you look like you're having trouble finding something, you will never be asked if you need help finding anything. When you walk in through the doors you can yell out hello, and no one will respond to you. This is literally corporate's worst nightmare. I'm so glad that I'm not crazy or being hypersensitive and everyone else in these reviews is talking about the decline in their customer service. I have a return to take back that is just sitting in my house because I haven't built up the willpower to come back. So definitely heading to the location in Naperville instead. I love this company so much, so it's unfortunate that this location is run by such crummy individuals. read more

This is my favorite Cost Plus location because it's convenient and because of the extent and variety of lines of products they carry. As you enter you see the wall art and paper goods/cards, as well as the ladies' purses and jewelry. Behind this you'll see the home and spa/bath items. Further there's furniture pieces (very nice heavier woods, darker tone African and Indian acessories, etc.) But my all around favorite areas are the beverages (adult included) and food sections which carry items from the various couisines... such as Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Northern European, and especially all the British Cadbury's specialties. My favorites are the asian gummies, the picnic/sample sized items (such as water crackers, laughing cow cheese, and hummus tetrapack triangle) and Italian pickled goods. They usually have hot coffee and tea sample in the back behind the food area, check it out. At the end of one of the food shelves there's always some sale stuff. They now have a sugar free area at the end of another food shelf. A great location to check out the latest offerings from Republic of Tea! And they have great natural mixes to make your own scones -- right next to a wide variety of jams and marmalades, and lemon curd! Lots of fun and you can spend at least an hour here. read more

After a week of agonizing about spending 6 hours driving to and from Oakbrook, IL to exchange the Roland coffee table that was broken upon unpacking it, I am finally a happy customer. Rich, the manager, gave me three options: keep the table at a heavily discounted price, drive there and exchange the table and a discounted price or ship it back and receive another one through shipping courtesy of CPWM. Needless to say, I will check the merchandise before leaving the store so that this doesn't happen again. I know of restaurants whose main business is serving dinner who open earlier than this store. As I was walking up to the store at 10:30 A.m., I saw two other potential customers try the locked doors, read the hours, and walk away. OK, so I just saw on Candice G.'s review that Koala Yummies are sold here. Despite the fact that I have NEVER noticed this, this fact makes World Market automatically worthy of a five star review! Man, I loved Koala Yummies when I was a kid. Alright, weird cocolate-stuffed cookie fetish aside, World Market is pretty awesome. I love browsing the coffee selection, and three prints found at WM are currently hanging in my dining room. I also saw (and sat in) an AMAZINGLY comfortable arm chair that was, in my opinion, a pure steal at $200. My husband and I are headed back to WM today to check out the chair again (I'm trying to convince him that we need it in our family room) and to search for and purchase mass quantities of Koala Yummies. I have always liked this store and all the wonderful interesting items in stock. I got my dining room chairs there, as well as a case of Caymus when they had a great deal on it. But it threw me for a loop when I returned 4 champagne glasses to the Oak Brook store, a total of around $20. I was feeling really ill but the clerk still made me take the extra time to type in my customer number so they could take my purchase points away. I understand the logic of removing purchase points on a return, but if a store cannot find a way to do that on the back end, I can tell you from personal experience it feels really WRONG for the store to make you subtract your own points. When I questioned it, they told me how I could be dishonestly buying and returning items to build points if they did not take points off. On top of that, they could only give me store credit because I didn't return the items earlier, even tho I had a receipt. I explained that I had been to their store within the time frame and in fact made a bunch of purchases, but I took the wrong car, the bag was in my other car for return. In the end the clerk is telling me it's not that big a deal, it is only 200 points. My thought is, exactly! Don't make me type in my customer number so you can them away, while I am feeling ill and especially if my being a customer means something to you. So- I will take my shopping elsewhere. read more

I have had terrible luck purchasing a patio dining table with World Market. I ordered a table that arrived damaged. When I called to speak to customer service, they explained that a new table would be expedited and shipped to me with 2 day shipping. When the table did not arrive within 2 days I contacted customer service again. The customer service manager explained that the first person I spoke to was misinformed and the table I ordered was not something that could possibly be expedited. The new table arrived and was damaged AGAIN!!! The customer service team was useless in resolving this issue. Ultimately I wasted 3 weeks of time waiting for World Market to make this right and missed out on the opportunity to purchase a table from a better business. Do yourself a favor and take your $$ elsewhere. read more

I knew I wanted to furnish our home with Asian inspired tones. And the only place I could think of right away was Pier 1, which would have caused me to go broke buying a chair. ($800 for one frigging chair?) So, I was thumbing through the Sunday paper's sales, and came across a furniture sale at Cost Plus. So away we went to Oakbrook. Not only did I leave there with newly ordered furniture (a brown suede storage and seating bench, an exotic retreat coffee table, a beautiful maple wood kitchen bench and two chairs.) I also walked out of the store with a bottle of peppermint coffee syrup, Godiva sipping chocolate, and set of four chopsticks, and a plethora of other wonderful kitchen goodies. And I still didn't break the bank. I think for all my purchases it came to around $900 or so. I will definitely be back for the rest of my furniture (and some more chocolate) very soon. read more
