I'll just begin by saying I worked in the retail industry for over 45 years before retiring last January. So, I have a unique perspective on the customer experience and what it takes for a business to provide consistent excellence in service. The Microcenter store in Westmont is beyond exceptional! The commitment showed by the staff to treat their guests well goes far beyond most typical retail locations. I visit often and feel so valued as a customer. Having been in the industry for so long, most in multi store management, I observe different aspects of the experience when I'm personally shopping stores. And at Micro Center Westmont, I observe a clean, well-organized store with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable team members who have a genuine interest in ensuring their guests are treated well. Far too many positive personal examples from my many visits to share, but the consistency is truly admirable. Now do they occasionally make a mistake or does something not go as planned? Of course! If it didn't they wouldn't be human beings as we all make mistakes, right? But I am so impressed with how hard the team works to correct those issues, big or small. The prices are fair, the price matching policy is very good and the return policies are exceptional. Micro Center is ALWAYS my first choice for tech and it's due mainly to the dedicated staff at the store who go above and beyond. If you've never been to a Micro Center, I'd highly suggest the Westmont location. Like me, you'll probably become a customer for life! read more

Needed ethernet cables and a few splitters for a camera system. I walk in here, and they only had certain lengths of cable, none of which would fit my needs. So I start looking around for someone to help me. 5 min passed and not one employee was available to help. Not one. So I decided I'll go find the splitters in the meantime, found one that I needed but other one was evading me. This time I go around the store looking for someone to help me out. Finally gave up and asked an employee to help me out after they finished with their current customer. The kid wasnt even looking in my direction just nodded his head. I had every single item i needed in my Amazon cart, but I still chose to drive here to give them my business. A few minutes of waiting, I just put back whatever I picked up and left. Ordered it on Amazon instead right there in the store. Employees here don't want to help, you can walk miles in that store before anyone will even bat an eye. I don't recommend this place at all. I was in search of a battery backup for my phone and stopped in. A store employee guided to area of phone attachments and I was able to find what I needed. My tip is to ask an employee for help, the store has many sections from computers to televisions/electronics. If you have never been to Micro Center I would highly recommend a visit!!! read more

Went here to find a solution to a computer build, only to be left feeling like I have Low IQ. Make sure you have a script of exactly what you need, they will just stare at you if you forget a letter or simply miss a word. The experience left me running around the store showing pictures and diagrams to staff members who seemed like they would rather not help me since I said "PCI" instead of "PCIe" - it was downhill from there. I hate feeling below when I am clearly speaking English and referring to actual parts. Just a very dry and sour taste left in my mouth. I honestly wanted nothing to do with them anymore. We came out to this location a few weeks ago during a day trip. My husband's main reason for coming out to this area was to come to Micro Center. I had come to Micro Center a couple times, but not in several years, so it was nice to come back. Employees were extremely quick to help you out and helpful to find the numerous items my husband required for his computer. My husband and I both also needed to use the bathroom during our visit and we found both restrooms were clean. The store was extremely organized. Honestly, we went through most aisles, to my memory nothing was out of place. I was very impressed by everything overall with this location. If you are looking to build, or replace something, within a computer I'd recommend coming here. I research gaming computers on their website, used the compare button with four different computers, narrow down what I was looking for went to the store I was greeted by one guy. He asked me what I was looking for I said gaming computer. He walked me to the back introduced me to a guy and then that guy introduced me to Gino then Gino also introduced me to his manager, who assured me Gino would take care and answer all my questions I needed. Geno explained my four selections we narrowed it down to two selections and he was honest with me. He told me the one computer for less money would cover my needs. LOUSY CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE today at Westmont Micro Center. Brought my gaming pc in due to slowwww download speed, but it passed diagnostic with flying colors. Explored upgrades with very helpful BYO staffer who suggested we start basic and attach a $4.99 wifi antennae before buying/installing a new graphics card. Then the cashier at station 10 wrecked the whole experience by scrutinizing my $5 in US dollar singles like they were counterfeit. "We have to check this stuff," he said, when I asked why he was treating me like some kind of crook. Doubtful. Guess where we WON'T be shopping for the $550 graphics card upgrade. read more

Bought a large amount of components. Put the build together and the system would not boot. Called customer support they had me do several things. None of those items fixed the issue. They told me they thought the motherboard was bad and to take the system into the store and they would be able to tell me if the product is bad and replace the product. Drove over an hour to get to the westmont location. Once there they wanted to charge me to test the item that was 2 days old. The manager could have cared less if they sold faulty product and wanted to charge me no matter what. Now they would accept a return with original packaging which support did not tell me to bring. *** Update**** Everyone has a bad day. The store has reached the director agreed that this should have been handled differently. We have worked out a solution. I appreciate the follow-up and am happy with how it worked out. When I first came in to get my laptop fixed, I made an appointment. However, even with an appointment I still had to wait. I was third in line so I'm not even sure why the online appointment was necessary. Minus one star. It didn't take long for them to diagnose and figure out what was wrong with the battery. I brought my old HP computer in because it didn't work at all. I was ready to throw it out but thanks to Chandler B and his computer genius, he saved my computer and I am happy! I am a writer on consumer affairs (among other subject), and trust me on this you do NOT want me to review this experience on a public web site. Staff very accommodating (up to a point), and printer is good, also up to a point. HP doesn't include instruction books and your staff was unable or unwilling to help me unravel the mysteries of its scanning or printing system. I spent a lot of time researching the best fit for my monitor needs and even called to ask about this particular model. They said it's a good match and had it in stock. I drove 30 minutes to buy it and they let me know that they actually don't have one in stock, but they did have a floor model that was about 40 cheaper. The floor model was too rough so I passed on it. They said there were 4 in Indianapolis and they would call to see if the manager there would be willing to send one over on the truck so it'd be there Saturday. The associate took my information but never got back to me. Two days later I had to reach out on chat and finally got a call when I was at work. The manager tells me that the manager in Indianapolis refused my request, likely because he'd rather let LG buy them back for a profit than sell them to customers. I'm guessing that's why they hiked up the price by about $200 in those two days. They don't want anyone to buy them at what they're worth. He said he'd call me back in 20 minutes and blew me off. I called customer service and was put on numerous holds and was told the best they could do was sell me the floor model, which was about 280 the other day, at 550 now. It's listed on Amazon for 340. They did eventually say they'd try to maybe find another somewhere but made no promises about time or price. I've invested hours into trying to get this monitor and the complete lack of regard or respect for their customers has me running far away. They're clearly motivated by trying to squeeze every penny from their customers and not by providing good service. It's very sad. I wanted to support a local store instead of going to Amazon and now I'm left without a monitor to work on when I start working from home next week. read more

High way robbery! Apple recommended this store for a Mac book pro problem. Walked in and told their help desk that my network adapter was no longer working and a usb WiFi network work around would not work because Apple discontinued usb WiFi adapter support for the last two iOS versions - this was news to them which should have been a red flag. But I paid the $40 diagnosis fee with the promise they would figure out why it was not working. A few days later i get some text messages that my network adapter was broken, something that I already told them. They quoted me $500 to replace the WiFi adapter!!! The usb WiFi adapter can be as cheap as $10! Why is this so expensive I asked thinking it may not be independent and part of a bigger component (motherboard or something else). They told me no! They continued to tell me the part was only $20. Initially they quoted me $500 with a two year warranty. Now they tell me it's $20 for the part, $200 for the warranty, and then labor. A warranty I did not ask for or agree to. This shady practice is probably being used every day on innocent people not in the know. I expect they had to take the back off my Mac (10 small screws) to troubleshoot my network adapter which also has one screw holding it down. I could not believe they wanted to charge me $160 to unscrew one screw and replace a part smaller than a stick of gum. I said no thanks. Found the part online for $15, paid a little over $20 total after tax and S&H had the part delivered in a couple days (after they told me five) and it took approximately six minutes to replace it. Buyer beware. I was a fan of this place especially after Frys closed but I doubt I'll ever be back. I'm sure there were some computer literate kids playing at the jump house next door that can help you with most of your problems for pizza money in lieu of this place. All receipts and text messages can be produced if curious. Shame on this business. Edit to reply to response: their agreement with Apple may have stipulations and legal what have you that they will not disclose nor am I curious to what they are. However my laptop is no longer covered by Apple care therefore there is no longer an agreement. Once again we are talking about a part/component no bigger than a stick of gum that Micro Center quoted me for $20 that I found for less online (not through Apple, once again no agreements being broken - parts are parts). Unless the owner below wants us all to believe that Apple has the means and ability to look at all of their repair transactions to ensure Micro Center is charging Apple customers more than necessary to justify this gross and disgusting quote. I went to Micro Center on the recommendation of a friend. I needed a new laptop. I am not computer savvy and had never purchased a computer without a knowledgeable person with me. I was hesitant. From the moment i walked in the door to the moment I left i was treated with the highest level of service. I was sold a laptop absolutely perfect for my needs and the repair area transferred all my data from the old computer to the new. They could see i was nervous about that and were reassuring all the way. The technician even took the time to try to make the look of the computer exactly like my old. THE PEOPLE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ARE CROOKS! Last week I dropped off my PC for repair I had extended protection, and the person who checked me in told asked if I needed a backup on my files. I did not had a backup and said yes and asked why I needed it, he told me that during diagnostics the hard drive might fail and that the backup cost $150. A couple days later, the technician called me and told me that the diagnostics was done but the PC needs a new hard drive and that the data transfer will cost me $100 I was skeptical that the diagnostics passed but I needed new drive since the PC is 1 year old but said do it but transfer it to a new PC. I use the PC for work and called on Saturday for an update. I was lucky that the technician was off and someone else checked the PC and told me everything seemed ok. So I got it back, At home I ran a disk checkup, and the SSD is okay. You can buy parts/PCs at a good price there but REPAIR YOUR PC SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! read more

I come here every day. Staff know me by now. Even with GPU shortage, I'm managed to get a graphics card. Just don't get their AMD cards that are 2x reference prices (6600xt is fine right now). Deals are great on CPUs here. Mobos about average. Whether or not you get their warranty is up to you. They run a QR code lottery in the mornings, usually not on Sundays or Mondays. I've never gone, but they also have shipments of GPUs throughout the day. Friday has been good day to grab them, can show up late in the evening too. read more

Well, it was an absolutely perfect transaction. I'm one of the lucky ones in the Chicagoland area who scored a new iMac computer. If you weren't aware, these computers are flying off the shelves. This is what drove me to the Westmont location for the first time ever. My plan was to purchase the computer online and do curbside pickup at their other location in Bucktown, where I usually go. I happened to wait one extra day to make my purchasing decision, and by the time I decided to hit the button, I found out the one iMac they had in stock in Chicago was sold. So, I checked the inventory at their Westmont store. Low and behold, they had two in stock, so I promptly bought it and arranged for a pickup. I received my confirmation email 30 minutes later, and Hubby and I made sure to drive out and get it before anything happened. It was a straight shot down I-294, and it took us no time at all! Upon arrival, we decided to check out the store a bit before heading to Will Call. If you aren't aware, this location is significantly smaller than the Chicago location, but everything was nicely organized and the store was super clean. It was a little crowded in the TV area, but everyone was wearing masks and there was hand sanitizer everywhere. Same gizmos and nerdy fun stuff they have at the Chicago location. Seemed well stocked and the staff we did encounter was super friendly. Plastic shields by all the counter areas. We finally made it to Will Call and there was no line at all. And, get this! They also told us the second computer was literally just picked up! What a great experience. We'll for sure keep this location in mind for future purchases. Also...two people offered to help us take the computer to our car. So nice! read more

Good customer service after small problem. Manager rectified situation quickly..situation was not their fault

Micro Center is easily the best electronic store in Illinois. First, the customer service and experience are great. There are tons of employees around who are willing to help, but they are not pushy/aggravating like other electronic stores. Additionally, you can check inventory on their website before shopping there to ensure they have what you need in stock. Next, if you like building custom/gaming PCs, there is no other store around that can compare. Previously, Fry's Electronics was a major competitor, but since that company went bankrupt, Micro Center is now king. They always have a huge selection of GPUs, CPUs, and anything else you need to build your PC. The only two complaints I have, although minor, are concerning their video game stock and their phone system. Unfortunately, their video game stock is very minimal and new releases are traditionally never available. Regarding the phone system, I've never had the opportunity to speak with someone over the phone as they require you to text the customer service line. To this end, responses usually take at least 45 minutes to an hour, and at that point, one could just go to the store. In all, I'm a huge fan of Micro Center! read more
