Best buy is like the special small yellow bus for technology. Microcenter actually has knowledge. It is the only place within 500 miles that has knowledge of tech items. It also has the kindest return policy in existence. They are very human and they also make commission so you have real salespeople vs robots who hate their life (every other electronic store). They are also cheaper to buy a whole computer system than Newegg, and you get a real store. I went to Micro Center in Mayfield Hts Ohio and purchased a 2TB external drive for backup. I asked the salesman for a recommendation of backup software and he told me Perfect Image Professional would be a good choice so I purchased it $49.99. After, easily, installing the drive I dropped the CD into the DVD player and loaded the Perfect Image software. It loaded just fine and when I tried to run it, a message came up that I needed to go to the Mfg website and get an updated engine to run the software. It was then I found out the software wasn't being sold by the company any longer and there was no update available to run it on my windows 10 pc. Because the software was opened I was out the cost. ********UPDATE****** As I was least expecting it I received an email from Micro Center offering to send me a replacement program, Acronis True Image 2017 to be exact, and I was thrilled. I went here after I got water damage in my MacBook Air. The entire hardware underneath the keyboard was corroded just a day after the water was spilt. I brought it to apple and they said that it would cost almost the same to buy a whole new laptop to cover the repair. Luckily my hard drive was only slightly corroded, apple removed it (free of charge)and recommended that I take it to Micro Center to see if they can salvage any information (i.e documents, pictures, etc). Micro Center did a great job with transferring over my information from the slightly corroded hard drive and putting it on a 1 TB hard drive for a very fair cost. Frequent flyer here, just purchased a new computer for my kid going to school. The lines used to be horrendous but I see they have made some improvements and opened up a new cashier station near the registers. The lines can be crazy at random times during the day. ******UPDATE ************* Since my last post (which is below) I got in touch with the corporate offices. The woman I spoke to there was great. She listened to me and took lots of notes. She even read them back to me to both prove she was listening and to make sure that my concerns were addressed. She acknowledged that the signage was wrong and misleading. That is to say the 18month interest free incentive had expired (despite the signage being up and the staff extolling its virtues) - Because of that fact they got in touch with the bank, re-wrote my deal and I got the 18 months that I originally signed up for from that point forward. That is to say, that I actually got 18 + the four months I already received on the original deal. While I feel I had to do A LOT of leg work and deal with A LOT of people at the store who tried, as memory serves me, their hardest not to help me, the corporate offices were FANTASTIC!. In the end, the deal I made is the deal I have... in fact, it's better!! I can't say that I'm eager to get back there and work with those folks again. But I do want those who are reading this to know that while mistakes may happen, in the end (with a lot of "middle" happening) they made it right and, as anyone who is shopping around will know, the prices here are extremely competitive. I think the story deserves to be told that in the end... Microcenter corporate made it right. **********Original Story**************** DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! - They were running a promotion that was posted all over the store, spend X and get 18 months interest free. I spend more than X and was told "You got 18 months interest free!" - Then, four months later Wells Fargo (the bank they use for their financing) called to say my six months were almost up. I said it should be 18 months... Wells Fargo said, Call Microcenter. I called the store to inquire and was told someone will call back tomorrow. No one did. I had to call back and spoke to a Joe after pulling some teeth, called the bank and said "They will review the account and IF they give you the 18 month terms you won't be charged any interest" IF?! The IF already happened... I spent X amount of dollars!! - This didn't please Joe as he cut me off and said...and I quote "Are you done, are you finsihed, are you done? Can I talk, Can I talk?" - Sure Joe...I'm finished... Joe then said "This is what the bank told me" Joe had promised to call me back with a certainty and he never did. Next day I called and Spoke to Nila who was worthless. She sat on the phone said "uh huh, okay, yeah" a few times then said "Well, Joe and I spoke yesterday and you have to deal with bank"...like I said... Nila was WORTHLESS. I insisted I talk to the GM, Daniel Martins... Daniel stood up for his team and said that I talk too much. He then said he spoke to his finance department, and the problem was that the promotion ended two days before I bought my equipment. They just forgot to take the signs down! (and...apparently forgot to tell the staff "Don't promise 18 months", which, both of the sales reps and the girl and the finance counter who took my credit application and cashier who rang up the items all confirmed my 18 month terms) But, since Dan has such a great long standing relationship with Wells Fargo had them change the terms so all is good. He then insisted I Thank him. I said "Dan, I thanked you when I bought the equipment and since then I've had to make numerous phone calls, be neglected and insulted and now, that you've finally honored the original agreement, you want me to thank you?" Absurd. Wish the story ended there... the very next morning I looked at my account and the bank didn't change my terms.... THEY CHARGED ME AGAIN!!!! I'm now double billed!!!! Maybe I get the great interest free terms on the new charge, but the old charge is still on the account, I'm due to pay interest on that but I also now have a new transaction for the same equipment!!!! Guess I really should have thanked Dan... it sure seems he deserves it. I let him know what happened and insisted he fix it. Let's see what happens. So, I reiterate, DO NOT SHOP HERE. Wow.. We go, the sales people work on commission and are not interested in anything but that. getting their commission. I know its my fault that when we get back to the office I have two 31/2 desktop drives instead of 21/2 laptop drives. I trusted the slick fast talking commissioned salesman, I was explicit about the drives. So my boss does not want waste his time and spend 2 hours returning the wrong products. So I go online and place the order. We enter my bosses credit card info and I think we are home free until the confirmation page informs us that we need to present an Id at the time of pickup. This was after the credit card was dinged. I even went on the CC card website and sure enough it was a pending transaction. Well before I leave, we agree if everything goes as planned, I will buy a $999 laptop... trying to reason with the un-educated manager was useless. there was no and I mean no empathy. I took my mac desktop in for hard drive replacement on the recommendation of Apple Support on-line since it was over 3 years old. I was surprised when told it would take a week to install. Since Apple recommended them, I figured it was because they were in demand. WRONG! They were to prove the opposite. A week dragged into the third week, but after loud and prolonged protest, I was finally able to get their large boulder rolling. Surprise, surprise: it took only hours after my harangue. Their service department is seriously understaffed and the supervision is non-existent, given the non-response to my problem. The phone queue should warn you off before ever going in the door. Had it not been for one diligent tech who cut the log jam, my mac would still be sitting on their shelf drawing dust. read more

I complained to the guy at the counter that people who are buying things should have a separate line and he told me that was the way it was. Order online, and not from this supplier. I have had too many problems with microcenter products and their return policy is terrible. I build computers and I can no longer afford to keep replacing parts on my dime because microcenter sells faulty products that can not be returned or exchanged. I could fully assemble a new machine with the bad gear I have bought from this store. You have 30 days to return a product or you are at the mercy of the product warranty, which never comes through. If you buy a monitor or a set of speakers and they go bad after the 31st day you are stuck with an overpriced paperweight. I still have the receipt, they still have the receipt and know how bad the individual products are. They will not help you if you have purchased an expensive product that is not functional after the return policy. They basically just move to the next person in line while you're still standing there. Avoid any Zotac products, any of their Inland garbage, any of their computer speakers, anything on clearance, their Tt mice, anything from the video game department. Honestly the only things I have purchased from there that never failed were processors and my Lenovo laptop. I would also advise against listening to their video game area employee. I asked for a game that could be installed offline and he insisted that Grand Theft Auto 4 was the game I should get. Not only did the game require an online connection to install, it also requires an online connection to be played offline while logged in to an EULA and the game itself was a terrible console port that never worked properly for PC. If he knew anything about the game he would know it was not functional on PC and required an internet connection. The EULA that it used(games for windows live) has since closed and I no longer have access to the unplayable game that terrible employee convinced me to pay for. I know the game is available on Steam now but I have already paid full price for it and I am not paying for it again. Taking his advice cost me money that I never got to enjoy. That was a while ago but it still bothers me. Maybe he just hated me but that was the most backwards awful advise anyone has ever given me. Purchased a Surveillance system November of 2016, with the 3yr carry-in protection plan. One of the power supplies for the cameras stopped working. Micro Center "customer service" refused to give me a replacement stating that I would need to bring the entire system back and swap it out for another since the system I have is discontinued. his would mean getting on a ladder taking down 10 cameras. I asked if they just carried the power supply, was informed I would not be reimbursed for the item if they did. I asked if they would then cover the costs of re-installation since I had the system originally installed by a professional, their response "No". So they expected me to get a ladder (do not own one to reach the heights that these cameras are placed on my house), uninstall the equipment (I can only assume I would be able to keep the cables in place). Uninstall the product, take it back to the store, exchange it. Take it home reinstall everything and lets not forget losing all the footage I already had. All this for a $20 part. They also refused to refund my "Protection Plan". Micro Center is a joke. read more

Given the fact that I just read another review that mentioned the same employee's names, specifically the manager, Belynda Green, I'm not at all surprised by the rude treatment that I received. While their prices may be lower than competitors, I would rather pay $50.00 more for an item than be degraded by this company's employees especially when I'm paying them for a product and/or a service. If you have a problem while shopping here, especially one that includes their employees, do not bother to address it if Ms. Green is the manager on duty. You won't get anywhere! In fact, while I reminded her today that I was not being rude and did not deserve the treatment that I was being provided, she informed me that they had a lot of people who shopped at their store and didn't need my business. (the apple store associate told me they made it). the person at the front desk tested my computer and told me all it needed was new hard drive and a software update! i was sooo happy to hear this. i payed $400 and walked away happily. i took my "fixed"computer home and it started acting up again. after speaking with the technician i was told that a simple hard drive and software update would not fix the problems i was having. he blamed the other employee for misdiagnosing the problem. i received a refund for the software and hardrive update but i kept the backup storage they gave me. fine. they did the right thing. now sitting on my new computer ready to transfer all my photos and documents and the external hard drive is COMPLETELY EMPTY. not a single damn thing on it!!!! what kind of operation are these people running!!!!!!!!!!! absolute morons. read more

When I was buying the laptop, I had a hunch I was getting screwed but I needed a Christmas gift for my son and was afraid I wouldn't get the gift before Christmas. My senses were right on the money. Here's what happened. I purchased a laptop right before last Christmas and it sat around all year until now. My son JUSTstarted using it for school and the battery is TOTALLY DEAD. I was told the battery is not covered under the two year warranty I purchased BUT it's only been 8 months and the machine was hardly used. I basically bought a laptop with a defective battery. The Westbury store did not even have a replacement for sale. I was told to buy it on-line. Totally ridiculous. I will not be doing business there anymore. You really get the feeling nobody in that store cares about customers. THEY WANT $$$ and only $$$. They don't look at the whole situation and try to make the customer happy. They basically said to get lost. THIS IS WHY IT PAYS TO BUY EVERYTHING ON-LINE. I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR STORES THAT GO UNDER BECAUSE MOST DO NOT LOOK OUT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. Micro Center is a good place to purchase from if you need something immediately and can't wait for something from Newegg to arrive. They usually have in stock anything I need. I always liked the place until last weekend. A friend of mine and myself went in there on a Sunday in the late afternoon (3-13-16) to buy three computers to build for a business he services. The sales rep said that we could only get a limit of one on the computer bundles (cpu and motherboard bundle.) The manager came over and refused to let us get the sale price on ANY one per household item even if it were two completely different items, for example, an SSD and a monitor. I've never heard of this and it says this nowhere anywhere on their site or store. He tried to pull the, "If you buy a $300 copy of Microsoft Office I'll let you buy all three." I was exceedingly disappointed with the lack of knowledge and customer service. Before visiting the store, I reviewed the website. The website stated that they could repair laptop screens fast and while you waited. I went to the store to be told that I would need to leave my laptop there for 24 hours while they looked for the price of a new screen. When I asked how much a new screen normally costs they could not give me an exact price. I then asked for an estimate and the employee told me between $100 and $700. (Really?! That is a vast range in pricing!) Then, he said it could take days for the screen to be delivered so I would need to leave my laptop there for several days. (That is definitely not a "fast" repair!) Also, one of the managers walked right in front of me and almost knocked into me while I was walking towards the repair counter. When I said "Excuse me," he responded by saying "Don't worry, calm down, I'm not trying to cut you in line!" in a completely unprofessional manner. I had no idea he worked there until the employee explained that he was the manager. He could have easily said that statement in a joking manner or apologized. I decided to take my laptop and walk out. I found much more competent individuals to fix my laptop screen. Definitely will never go back to Micro Center! read more

So the battery on my daughter's Macbook Pro died. I tried to get an appt with Apple @ Roosevelt field on the on line system, but due to work, I would have to wait a few days. Apple also reccomended Micro Center as an Authorized dealer. So on my lunch hour , I took a chance and dropped in. Signed in & after a five minute wait I was sent to the back into the Apple area. There were two people ahead of me, and only one person working the Apple area. They had a battery for 120 with an additional 60 to install. Total 180.. It's not an apple battery but it works I was told. I told the guy that Apple will give me an Apple battery & install for just over a 100. Wow, I would think going outside of apple and getting a non apple battety it would be cheaper. Anyways, he went on to tell me because my laptop was pre 2012, apple probably would not have the battery. Well, I took my chances went to Apple as a walk in, got an appt for that night and they changed the battery for 129. Total! My laptop is 5 yrs old, 2010, they had the battery. Battery should last 2.5 yrs, hopefully the laptop will too. Who knew, Apple does it for less! read more
