The tech junk you can get on Amazon is just that...junk. At the start of COVID, we didn't have a computer younger than 8 y/o in the house and 2 kids needing them. While everyone else sold out or was price gouging like crazy, I decided to take up building my own PCs. Knowing absolutely nothing about building a PC, I went to YouTube and MicroCenter. They had everything I needed, but the largest benefit was the first hand knowledge and advice. If you come here looking for build or upgrade advice, ask for David Ingold. Over my past three visits, David has spent collectively more than 4 hours walking me through a build, comparing options and getting me the best bang for the buck. With what I wanted to build and it's main purpose, he didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need. With his help, I went from not knowing what the main PC components were to having 3 successful builds in 3 months! Lastly, while NewEgg.com and Amazon prices may advertise competitive pricing on individual parts, MicroCenter easily wins out with bundle deals. However, after standing in line, and seeing how each rep took their time to help out the customer, I thought I might as well give them a chance to help me out. MC is a great place to go if you know what it is you are looking for. On the down side, it can be hard to find someone out on the floor to help you if you are looking for assistance. I've been going here some 20 years or so. Back before Apple opened it's own Apple Retail stores - this was THE definitive brick and mortar location in the area to go and buy Macintosh computers, software, and peripherals. Still a decent computer store after all of these years - I always know what it is I am looking for when I go in - so I rarely need assistance - but I can't help but browse through the games and Macintosh sections each time I go in to see what else is going on. read more

Very unhappy with recent visit. Took MacBook Pro in for a service as battery is running flat very quickly. Was made to wait 25 minutes after appointment time and 2 people who came in after me were seen before me. Tech insisted on ripping the back protective cover off of the computer to get the serial number even though the serial number is available in the Apple About section of the computer and was listed in my appointment information. Tech was snarky and rude to us. Instructions were hard to follow and incorrect on how to unlock computer. Tech insisted I give him my password. Was charged $40 and then told that the battery is operating fine. Five days late, the computer is still running flat in an hour, the computer is hot, and the fan is continuously running. Micro Center charged me $40 and gave me nothing in return. Will not return. read more

I come here for pretty much all my PC needs, whether it be gaming or for work. Also have come here for random office supplies. Great alternative to shopping online whether you want the product that day or it's just more convenient. They price match, which is GREAT way to keep my business! By price matching, it helps save money and time with waiting for parts to be shipped online. I've been going here for probably about 4 years and bought majority of the parts to build my first gaming PC from scratch! This place is a geek paradise as well as a great electronics store with sales associates always willing and available to assist you. I built me a computer few years ago for the first time and just recently I decided to upgrade some parts of course in my area the only store that carries stuff like that is Best Buy but what I needed they hardly have anything in stock. Yea I could have order stuff from the website but I didn't want too so I came across micro center on social media or whatever and found this location. The bad thing is that it was total of 6hrs+ because it's about 3hrs from my house one way so I really hope they build another store close to me. So I'm giving this store 5 stars since that's the max I would give more if I could because they have everything you need to build a pc and the staff was very helpful and friendly unlike Best Buy. Been going here for years. Largest selection of computer hardware and software, along with accessories. Batteries, UPS, memory, parts, drives (SSD & HDD), graphics cards, CPUs, motherboards, 3D printers, printer toners and inks, media, laptops & parts, home security, Apple accessories and parts, digital cameras... high-end & low end - and the prices are slightly above online pricing, but if you need it now- they have it now. Worth the price difference, and they do returns - and sometimes have open box values and refurbs/returns on sale. I can't recommend their repair facility unless you are desperate. I grew up where Fry's Electronics was founded and loved browsing and shopping there. There are none on the east coast and they recently just closed all locations due to the impact of the pandemic. I'm sad. This made me remember this local Micro Center location and this is my go to for local purchases. A lot of times there is no substitute to seeing the product in person and Micro Center has a very deep and wide selection with subject matter experts in each area. I've never built my own desktop computer but I've done everything but, upgrading most every component on a laptop including the display and converting a Mac Mini to SSD. I love this store, it's clean, well laid out with stuff always in stock. I've bought SSD's, gaming monitors, and other items here in the four years since I've moved to VA. I also used to go to a Micro Center in Santa Clara CA (where I used to live) when they opened one but it closed a long time ago so I have prior experience w/brand. For brick and mortar stores, this is my preferred store. Staff is helpful and not that salesy which is something that I hated about Fry's. I've actually used their staff's suggestions, something I rarely do at other places. Their prices are good and their selection is as good as online places. When this pandemic is all over, I hope to go browse here again one day, maybe when PS5's become widely available? read more

I will say in general that they have a massive selection of products at prices that are equal to mail order businesses. Wild selection of motherboards, cases, cpus, and ram at great prices. The gpus as always were about 50% over msrp (that's not their fault as during these times gpus are outta stock everywhere). MicroCenter does a good job hiring young kids who are passionate about computers. They also train them to become sales professionals, technicians and managers in the real world. If you need something generic, it's better than BestBuy I guess. Other than that if you need something specialized good luck. Selection is hit or miss, organization is a free for all, and inventory is a complete joke. Online will say it's in stock, but when you try to reserve they can't find the items. Happens all the time. What's better is when you go into the store, "out of stock items" are on the shelf and "in stock items" are nowhere to be found. Almost suggests that the online store and physical store are entirely different companies. They're also introducing a waitlist with no easy option to pre-enroll. This means you'll show up, get put on a list, and wait around for an hour or two just to go in the store...for any transaction. Well, at least they're not requiring a cover charge...yet. Their customer service is second to none. I received a well-meaning Mother's Day gift of a wireless keyboard and a Microsoft Office subscription from my husband that I just couldn't use. Then our entire household got Covid, which delayed our return. We were over the return window by just a few days, and the associate was kind enough to accept the return as a one-time courtesy. They even had to do some creative maneuvering to return the Microsoft subscription for a store credit because MS is so strict with returns of software. I was so grateful for both Jhon the sales associate as well as Khabeer S. the manager. Both were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to find a solution for me. They explained everything very clearly, what they could and couldn't do for me, and extended the return window as a courtesy. You just don't see that level of customer service at most businesses these days. MicroCenter has always had our business, but this experience certainly seals the deal. I bought the majority of my computer parts from here. They have a great return policy. They price match. Not much more you can ask for.

I purchased one of their Pre-builds back in November 2019. After about six months; I started having issues with the case fan (the colors changed to red then flickered out). After much consternation (because I am immunocompromised and trying to avoid being stuck in lines inside enclosed stores), I took it in for repair. Since this is a computer built by microcenter, there is a limited warranty for one year. When checking it in, I indicated that I believed it might be a power supply or actual wiring of the RGB issue. I don't believe the tech associate took me seriously at all. I checked in my computer. They had it for four days. I received a call that the case fans just needed to be replaced. So I came in to pick it up. I had it home for two days before the lights started transitioning back to red. It flickered for a while and now the lights are just purely red. Basically the actual problem was never diagnosed and dealt with. I emailed customer support to follow up immediately and ask whether they looked at the issues I recommended and what diagnostic was actually done and whether when I inevitably have to bring it back in that I can just drop it off without waiting in line in store (because again I am trying to avoid this). I sent that email four days ago and the email tech support people just keep telling me that a manager at the Fairfax store will reach out to me and to follow up if they don't. I've now followed up multiple times and no one has contacted me. I'm giving 2 rather than 1 star because my INITIAL shopping experience was pleasant. The sales associate who I worked with to select my computer was kind, and I was generally happy with my purchase. This tech issue and the poor communication and lack of due diligence in diagnosing the issue has been really frustrating and disappointing. I already slightly regretted buying from Micro Center rather than building my own or going with a boutique builder. This has made that regret deepen since the main benefit of buying from micro center was that I could bring in my computer for repair rather than mailing it in to the boutique builder. My case fans are set to a violet purple and this is the color they show. (I will edit this eventually with how it's resolved and whether that changes my overall rating). EDIT- after four days I was contacted by text and told to bring it back in. They honestly didn't give me any of the specifics I requested (as in- did you check the power supply? They just said they did "diagnostics"). They just reiterated that the case fans were the problem and they replaced them the first time. And then told me there was nothing wrong with it now and that the fans are purple when they run it. Given that they've been red for several days (as you can see in the pictures I've attached here), I requested a picture showing what color they are. They apparently can't send them using whatever app they use to text. They did no further diagnostic work and have basically decided they fixed it the first time even though they didn't. Again I specifically requested they check the RGB wiring and power supply. To my knowledge (since they won't tell me..) none of this has been checked. So I'm going to pick it back up tomorrow without my problem resolved. Pretty disappointed. I was literally told "I don't know" by the service tech. I'm taking it myself to see if I can troubleshoot it personally, but this has been a pretty frustrating waste of my time. I regret purchasing a PowerSpec and should have gone to a boutique builder. Even if I had to mail it in for service, they would have at least actually investigated and corrected the problem. read more

Micro Center has seemingly been around forever, and after going here for the first time in years it's easy to see why. I did my research before going and identified the laptop I wanted. Much to my pleasure they already had the exact model sitting out in the laptop section along with plenty other models. Customers can look and interact with the models as well as read the specifications laminated next to each. I actually ended up buying a better model than I initially wanted to purchase because of the information, discount, and availability to try the product. Christian helped me pick out the laptop and reserved two models while he was very busy with everyone else. I really appreciated the attentiveness especially since I was there near opening and the place was already packed. I absolutely will come back here if I ever decide to add more RAM or make further modifications to the laptop. There's also a ton of monitors and high-end screens for sale that are all on display and quite amazing. read more

I will say Micro Center is like the ultimate computer (and all things computer related) show room. It's kind of old school where there are salesmen that ask you if you need any help and they show you things around. I think they get a cut for commission and they are always dressed in like a shirt and tie. You don't see that anymore in stores. Anyways, I came here to take a look at their mechanical keyboards. While most electronic stores only have 1 or 2 keyboards on display, MC has like 10-15, some mechanical, some the regular kind. They have an entire aisle dedicated to keyboards. I was pretty impressed with their selection and I really got to try many different ones and discovered which ones I liked. They had keyboards for all different budgets from $3.99 to $150+. The problem with MC is that many things I want are out of my budget in the store so I end up searching online for something similar or slightly different but still what I want. There are so many different aisles and categories of computer parts. So many different showcases of laptops and monitors and keyboards and so much more. I had the all-time greatest customer service experience of my life at this Micro Center. Jiri Strakos quite literally saved my family's Thanksgiving holiday, and I am eternally grateful. I was dealing with a fiasco with my work laptop, and urgently needed assistance. I was in good hands with Jiri's deep knowledge and professional demeanor. If he hadn't helped me rectify the problem, my broken laptop issue would have derailed my entire Thanksgiving week plans. I am so very grateful that he intervened! Took my computer for a diagnostic and also to have them look at a software issue. I paid $150 for a backup of my hard drive and the $40 fee for the diagnostic only to have my computer come back with any ram broken and the fan to my coolant bent. I called and asked and spot with someone name Dan only to have him sound pissed off and annoyed I asked if they could take a look at it and give me a refund or a new ram stick. Went it and they said they could only give me a refund for the diagnostic or get $30 off another set of ram stick the lady who help me was really nice but the dude who I walked up was just as annoyed and couldn't be bothered to help me. Just look how bent and broken it is and they only gave me a refund for the diagnosis even though they broke the stick. Kinda upsetting because I always go here for pc parts but I don't think I'll go back anymore. read more

Pros: Same-day computer parts; not Amazon Cons: Absentee store associate; aggressive, unnecessary data collection -- I'd been a happy customer of Micro Center for several years, but a few months ago their online order system started requiring a cell phone number from one of the big 3 cell companies to place an order. Since I use another cell provider, I can't place online orders anymore, even for pickup. Bizarre and off-putting, but I liked having an alternative to Best Buy, so I decided to try my luck in-store. An associate helped me get the item I was looking for, and when I asked about another item, he said he would get an associate from that department to help. The second associate never showed up, so I went to checkout with the first item. After paying, the clerk started asking me for my personal contact info. After politely declining a couple of times, I finally insisted that I just needed the receipt and the item. The clerk handed them over but passive-aggressively told me that if I lost the receipt I'd be out or luck, even if I had a photo it scan of the receipt. I confirmed with the returns manager that this wasn't correct and then left. Summary: After all the ways Micro Center has made shopping with them more difficult, they have convinced me that there is no longer any reason for them to exist. I scheduled a memory upgrade and came during the designated time slot. The technician told me to leave the computer for three days. But I need my computer to work. I suggested that maybe the store could call me back in three days when they actually could do it (it takes 10 minutes or less). The technician refused. But why? I pointed out that I scheduled the memory upgrade. If they were busy why did they assign me a time slot? He told me that I scheduled a "consultation". This was not true. I scheduled a memory upgrade. I lost time from work to come to the store, I was willing to come again, but he really wanted me to leave my computer there for no reason so that I could not work. Dropped off my PC for a diagnostic because I was having BSOD issues. Took them quite literally one entire month before they got back to me. They recommended replacing my SSD and Ram. All in all everything cost me around $400 for parts and labor. Took my PC home, turned it on and the first thing I see is another BSOD. They just installed the parts and didn't bother to actually boot up my PC to see if it fixed the problem. To this day I'm still getting 4-5 BSODs a day, which is insane. read more

I ended up communicating with customer service after my initial problems. I explained what happened and they offered to take another look at the Chromebook. Later the same day, they called me back and said everything was seated correctly and tight. It was likely that the motherboard was failing, that it probably had intermittent failures and that the timing just happened to be that it completely failed when they had it. I think that's within the realm of possibility because the touchscreen already failed and I may have just gotten an expensive lemon from Asus. The manager offered me a discount on a replacement that I thought was reasonable all things considered. In the end, it turned out ok as we reached a mutually agreeable solution. read more
