Mark, the store manager, is phenomenal! He's extremely knowledgeable and honest but he's also extremely smart in how his products work. He's only a phone call away if you get home and can't remember how to do something. We bought our 2nd tv from him about 18 months ago along with a speaker bar which recently stopped working. Mark literally bent over backwards to help us diagnose and fix the issue. I kept thinking "can you imagine if we had purchased through Best Buy and tried to get help 18 months after the purchase?" I recently purchased a Samsung S90D from this location and want to share both the positives and areas of concern from my experience. On the positive side, the in-store experience was pleasant. I knew exactly which TV model I wanted, and the salesperson was friendly and efficient in getting everything checked out and scheduled for delivery. My only feedback on the purchasing experience is that the store prominently advertises "lower in-store prices" on every page of their website, yet I discovered after my purchase that I had paid more than the online price. To their credit, the manager refunded the difference when I pointed it out, but the website claim feels disingenuous and highlights a communication gap within the company. The real issues began with the TV mounting service. When purchasing the TV, I made it clear I did not need any outlet run or extra electrical work--just a straightforward mounting. Unfortunately, the installers drilled unauthorized holes in my accent wall and ran the TV's power cable behind the wall in a way that violates Fairfax City electrical code (NEC 400.8 is clear on this point). While they insisted this is "common practice," it's still a liability issue and something that should have been discussed with me first. Especially when drilling holes into a customer's accent wall where an unsightly wall plate was not wanted. Additionally, the wall plate installed under the TV was secured improperly--directly into drywall instead of using a bracket--meaning it will eventually loosen and fall out. For the hole they drilled behind the TV, they installed no wall plate at all. They also left the work area messy: drywall dust on the mount, dusty handprints on the back of the TV and the power cable, and marks on my freshly painted accent wall. Most disappointing, they scratched the back of the TV on both sides while installing the mounting rails. While the store refunded the installation fee after I raised these concerns, they never truly acknowledged the poor workmanship or the code and liability issues their install practices created. I spent far more time fixing the aftermath than I would have if I had mounted the TV myself--and my TV now has blemishes that reduce its resale value which the store also refused to acknowledge. Overall, while the purchase started well, the installation was the worst I have experienced. A company's true colors show in how they respond to legitimate concerns, and unfortunately The Big Screen Store fell short. I hope they take this feedback as an opportunity to improve communication, installation standards, and accountability. read more

These people made their word good. I bought a 77 inch Samsung QN77S90D and Q990 speaker system from Yasir Raphael on November 26, 2024 which were delivered on the 28th. I absolutely love the TV and the sound system is unbelievable. However, at around 10:00 pm on the following Thursday, the TV just died. It stop working. Black screen. I called Yasir Raphel on Friday morning and he had a new TV delivered the next day. What more could you ask for? As background, one of the things I like about The Big Screen Store, is that they use over the over the air transmission signal to show their TV's. So, you get to see what you will get when you get home. That is, if you don't have cable. As for demonstrating the sound system, you sort of have to use your imagination. I returned to the Big Screen Store on Lee Highway in Fairax after 16 years. We wanted to add two additional theater seats and replace the bulb for our projector. As turned out, the manufacturer of our current seats had gone out of business and, while the shop could order a new bulb and have it installed, they no longer sell projection systems. What to do? First, Mark was nothing short of outstanding. He was knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and always courteous. It was great working with him. Mark showed me a set of seats by a different manufacturer that were similar to what we already had, but as we chatted and I looked around the shop my eyes spied a 98" Samsung Flat Screen. I immediately fell in love and before long we were discussing a new system. That same evening my wife and I decided to upgrade out home theater. I returned shortly thereafter and purchased the mid-level Samsung QLED 98" flat screen, the new theater seats, and a Denon receiver. Crutchfield supplied a new 4k UHD DVD player (more on that later). Samsung makes a quality product, but the company got a loyal customer when it completely replaced my first-ever flat screen, even though it was off the warranty had expired one month earlier. Fifteen years later the unit still provides a fine picture and we've since purchased two additional Samsungs. They last forever! The new system was an upgrade to 4K UHD, which would require new cables for the DVD player and for the Denon receiver. Yep, we still use discs. Even with a high quality WiFi signal, we prefer not to risk a signal interruption during movies and sporting events. With a small library of discs we can select certain epic films to view whenever we wish without being at the mercy (and the expense) of multiple streaming services. Mark recommended sellf-adhesive channels easily ordered from Lowe's to hide the cables and it was easy to prime and paint them the same color as our theater trim. Prior to the install, it occurred to me that the new flat screen may not fit down our basement stairs due to the architecture. I took some measurements and sent photos to Mark and he assured me that he was quite certain it would not be a problem. On the day of delivery, the flat screen was removed from the packaging and taken downstairs and left leaning against a wall for the installer. The install could not have been easier. Our old 103" screen was removed and our projector was disconnected and taken down. The installer kindly affixed a plate where the ceiling bracket had been for the projector. The installer set the channels in place, ran all cables, professionally hung the flat screen, and then went into the Denon to configure the settings relative to the sound and DVD player. Unfortunately, we learned that our SVS subwoofer was no longer functioning. The Big Screen Store does not sell SVS subwoofers, but Mark assured us the company has outstanding customer service. A phone call to SVS and a single test revealed we required a new amplifier. SVS helped us to identify a replacement amp and days later it arrived. Despite not being particularly handy around electronics, with SVS assistance on the phone, I was able to easily swap out the unit. The subwoofer still didn't work. Here is where the one glitch may have occurred. The SVS representative talked me though the Denon configuration and the subwoofer had not been activated with the receiver. There is no way to know if the installer didn't catch that function or if the amp was really out, but given the cost of the entire system the additional $400 for piece of mind wasn't worth a second thought. We have been loving our upgraded home theater for approximately seven months. The picture and sound quality are nothing short of amazing. While waiting for the seats to arrive, Mark provided advice and referred us to an Atlanta-based company that sells theater platforms. We added a new platform for our second row seats for an unobstructed view of the screen. In addition to movies, the smart flat screen also allows us to watch sports. We might as well be sitting on the 50-yard line when watching football games. Why tailgate and freeze outside when we have the best view in the house?!?!?! The Big Screen Store is unquestionably the place to go for a home theater system. They are constantly running sales that likely match anything Best Buy or other big box stores can offer. With Mark, however, we also had peace of mind that we were working with someone who knew what he was talking about and who was a wealth of information. read more

We purchased a Samsung TV and "professional installation" from the Big Screen Store in Fairfax. We bought a 2021 55" Picture Frame TV. We loved the look of the one on display in the store and were excited to have it hung by the Big Screen Store installers. On delivery day I received an early morning call letting me know the delivery window would be 6PM-10PM! I wasn't happy but the guy said it was due to the Labor Day sale the store had. I moved furniture and cleared the area anticipating the delivery. Finally at 10:45PM, NO phone call, NO email, NO delivery, NO TV. We went to bed. I called in the morning and the store was as surprised as I was. The delivery crew never told them the delivery didn't happen. I was happy when the store told me the installers would bring the TV with them and they fit me in the next day. They showed up on time with the TV. We figured out placement on the wall and I left them to their job. There was difficulty fishing the line behind the wall (due to spray foam insulation). The fix was to cut a small channel to run the wire/s, I agreed to that and would hire someone to patch and paint that area. The TV was hung and I was called in to show me how to operate it. The TV was defective. After calling the store to alert them we'd need another TV, I was told they had none left. I was offered the floor model or to pay more money for a different TV. I didn't want a tv that had been hanging on a wall in the store for a year and I didn't want to spend any more than I had, initially. We chose to return the defective television. Once that decision was made, the tv was removed and that is when I saw the damage that had been done to the wall. The number and size of the holes was shocking. The installers hadn't used or even opened the templates provided with the tv, for proper spacing and hanging. They didn't have the proper screws: all different lengths and diameters. One bracket had two screws, the other had five. The brackets weren't plumb or level and the attached clips that the tv hangs on were fixed (not movable) to the bracket so the tv wouldn't have been level. We received a refund for the tv. I am very angry that professional installers caused so much damage to my wall which will require extensive drywall repair and repainting. I asked the owner, Jason, to be responsible for a portion of the wall repair: his response was "well you wouldn't have known if the TV worked". It didn't work and a different TV would require different brackets and wouldn't be able to be hung anywhere near the mess created by the installers. read more

I admit I had heard the commercials and I do like the idea of helping folks get back to work. While I liked the idea of giving our business to a local establishment perhaps because of current situation this may have been the hardest sell I have ever experienced. The sales guy put so much energy into hammering home that the Samsung's they carried were better then ones we saw elsewhere and directing us to the most expensive options telling my husband how great the sports would be despite my hubby stating he did not watch sports. If he could have listened to us and realized we didn't want the most expensive model he could have sold us a higher mid-level 65" Samsung with speakers, instead we ended us purchasing from Best Buy and hiring a local installation person to put it up. My experience was a lot like Sarah. I went to the store yesterday because I'm interested in buying a television soon. I got a pushy salesman (wondering if it's the same guy). Even though I told him that it is for the basement with minimal light/reflection and my budget is 2000 (for the tv, a blue-ray player, delivery and installation), he basically told me that all televisions suck aside the two most expensive ones, both of of which were over 2000. His disinterest was obvious right from the beginning when I told him I wanted to learn more so I could know my options and discuss with my wife before making a purchase in the next week or so. I'm a serious buyer, plan to buy a television soon, wanted to support a smaller business, and got subpar customer service because I wasn't interested in the Samsung Q80 and Q90 televisions. I was in the market to purchase the flagship 4K Samsung TV the Q90T. With the normal big box stores being sold out I tried the Fairfax location. The staff was polite and greeted us immediately and was not pushy but allowed us to leisurely walk around. When I did have a technical question they had the answer immediately. They knew I had video/home theater knowledge and quickly "got down in the weeds" with explanations. Whether you are a casual customer, or a die hard TV techie, they have you covered. My husband and I came here on May 29 to look for home theater seats and ended up ordering a whole slew of items for our home theater (screen, HDMI cable, receiver) plus installation. Mark, the store's general manager, "helped" us. He was nice in the beginning as we put in an order of over $4,000. It wasn't until weeks later that we realized that his "niceness" ended as soon as we signed on the dotted line. First, Mark emails us on June 8 (10 days later) that they were cancelling our order of the projector screen because apparently it was too cheap and they wouldn't be making any money. We can somehow understand why they'd cancel but not the time it took him to inform us. It's unacceptable to make a customer wait for 10 days without telling them that you're going to cancel their order. Second, we asked him if they could deliver our theater seats sooner than the installation day. We also asked him if he could waive the delivery fee on the seats ($79.50) as BestBuy offers free delivery. He says yes several times. After numerous visits (we live in Woodbridge, so to trek to Fairfax was not easy) and calls from my husband (the store has only one phone and either you leave a voicemail without expecting a call back or you keep calling until the stars align and someone actually picks up), we finally get a delivery date of June 10. He told us that their delivery crew will call us a couple of hours prior to delivery and to expect them sometime in the afternoon of June 10. Fortunately, June 10 was a Saturday and my husband was home. We never got a call from their delivery guys as they delivered the seats at 8 am. The delivery guys also brought an HDMI cable, which Big Screen wanted to charge us $65 (a bargain considering Mark said they retailed for $130 and was only charging us half). Not so fast, one look at the cable and my husband knew he could get the same exact one on Amazon for considerably less. He checked Amazon and sure enough, Amazon was selling the exact same cable for $16. Yes, $16. So my husband immediately said no and cancelled the overpriced cable from Big Screen. At this point, the odds were stacking up against Big Screen. An uncommunicative general sales manager and delivery crew, very poor customer service, and overpriced cable so we decided to cancel our entire order except for the seats. And that's when the real nightmare begins. On the same day, June 10, we emailed Mark to cancel our entire order and to give us an updated invoice. He said, because it was a Saturday, he wasn't going to be able to put the credit in their system until Monday. Fine. Monday comes, we don't hear from him. It wasn't until the following Saturday when I remembered and checked my credit card to see if he actually credited us. Surprise, surprise, he DIDN'T. So another 5 business days have passed and no credit. So my husband calls Big Screen yet again, and lo and behold, Mark picks up the phone. At which he doesn't apologize or offer a reason as to why we have to call and ask that he fix our order and credit us for the cancelled items. And that again 5 days have passed since he told us he was going to fix it. Within a few mniutes, he sends us a "corrected" invoice. As I was calculating the amount they credited us, I found it was missing $79.50 (delivery fee). It was so obvious that Mark was trying to be sly and take back what he said several times that he was going to waive the delivery fee. My husband called Big Screen again and asked where the missing $79.50 credit was. Mark's reply? "I don't see the mistake." Really? You don't? Because it's so obvious that with you not giving us an itemized invoice, you thought we would just accept that lump sum credit you gave us. Minutes later, he emailed us the invoice with the $79.50 credit. Funny how it took him just a few minutes to credit us the remaining $79.50 without offering any explanation nor apology throughout this entire nightmare. NEVER AGAIN will we order from Big Screen Store in Fairfax. Lesson learned. Go to BestBuy where the folks know what they're talking about, can easily price match or beat Big Screen's prices. So far, the Magnolia Theater people we've dealt with are honest and never gave us the runaround. read more
