Do not trust their service department. They lied to my face about needing a new motherboard for a CPU when I just came in for a BIOS update. Repeatedly lied, even when I gave them evidence of it just needing a BIOS update. After the service was over, and I confirmed with several people that they were wrong, I called to tell them, they told me they wouldn't refund the service. read more

Excellent selection and the pricing on some open box items are excellent deals. However when I went to the register with an open box item the cashier looked at me like I had two heads. Before I even spoke he told me the box was too beat up to return, and I had to tell him that it was on open box item that I was buying. I don't drop $4000 every day, and when I do, especially on a luxury item, it should be a joyous experience. Instead I got ripped off and screwed and I'm still angry about it 2 weeks later. Long story short(er), I bought a pre-built gaming desktop and wanted to add an extra SSD drive. The salesman told me that was fine and charged me an extra $100 for the installation (which I was kind of surprised and disappointed by, since I was already spending so much I thought they'd include it, but whatever) and I had to wait an hour for the install. When I got home, I found the tech had swapped the SSD card with one that was already installed, instead of just adding it. After literally hours dealing with customer service (who were actually pretty great) the tech called me and told me he swapped them because the computer didn't have an available slot -- the salesman fucked up and read the info wrong. So, that all lasted until after 6pm on a Saturday, and before the store opened on Sunday the salesman called me to try and make things right. But his best solution was for me to keep the card and refund me $100. (The actual refund ended up being for $160, so I think the manager must have upped it when it came to his attention.) So monetarily, I've been mostly restored, but the computer now has 1TB less memory than I wanted and they wasted HOURS of my time, and the worst part is they ruined the whole experience. When you spend that much money on something, a computer, a phone, a TV, after you get it you just want to be able to have fun and play with it and that experience was ruined for me. I would hope that the store would bite the bullet and bend over to turn my experience around, but they feel that the bare minimum compensation is enough. TLDR: Fuck Micro Center. read more

I recently bought a $400 Sony headphones. In less than one year, the recharging port was " damaged" for no reason. The manufacturer's warranty excludes physical damage. Sony was horrible and kept repeating"our warranty does not cover physical damage"! They gave me a "discount" offer to buy a new pair of headphones for $332.00! I felt this was outrageous! They told me I could send it in for repair to some shop in upstate NY. The only place in the whole country that repairs Sony!! Then, it would be shipping; $90 labor plus whatever parts cost! I called admin offices twice but they did not call me back! I was so distressed and disgusted. I called microcenter. The manager, Patrick, approved me getting a refund through a gift card for the store. I am so dependent on electronics that I know I will use this refund. I deeply appreciate Microcenter supporting me as a customer who needs an electronic store that is reliable and trustworthy! I will NEVER buy another Sony product again!! read more

To the owner....I am so annoyed at this place... To the Micro Center owner. Here is the reason for my extreme annoyance at your service department, yes, extreme!! I spent $1,600 at MC for a laptop, printer with every imaginable add on. The mouse stopped working. After a week in your hands I was advised it needed to go to Dell for 3 weeks minimum and make sure I backed up everything..... Rather than this unreasonable solution I switched to a wired mouse and fought with that crap mouse and tangled wired bullshit for two years. Recently (10/25) I took my PC to a tiny one man shop in Medford, Dynamic Computer's 781-333-4119 for something unrelated. When I mentioned the mouse issue, he had the mouse problem fixed within minutes. Mr owner, please spare me that we all make mistakes. This was not a mistake, it was total incompetence causing much annoyance and frustration on my end believing it had been correctly diagnosed..... If anyone besides the MC owner has stayed with this post, do yourself a favor, go to Dynamic Computers or elsewhere for repairs. Micro Center is in the business of selling, not repairing, buying extended warranties you are flushing your money away with repairs taking weeks. If MC cannot offer reliable and expedient follow up, why not just buy from a box store? read more

Updated review: Although the sales experience was positive (except for the multiple up-sells), and the inventory and prices good, we still do not have a working computer. We live 2.5 hours away (so 5 hours round trip), and had to drive back to replace defective parts. We should've exchanged the CPU as well, as it appears that item is not working now, possibly from having to install, uninstall, and reinstall after swapping out defective parts. I've spent hours on the phone with customer support (10/15 Chase, 10/22 Austin, 10/25 Nate, 10/26 David, 11/3 Pat) simply looking to have a replacement CPU shipped from the store. That requires a conversation with the store manager, who is supposed to call me. This hasn't happened, despite it being "escalated to corporate" multiple times. I've been patient, but this has been a very frustrating experience. I would not recommend shopping at Micro Center. Original review (5 star): Came in to get a GPU as they've been hard to get on line, super expensive, and we happened to be in the area. Ended up buying everything for a build your own computer based on parts sourced online from various sources. Ended up getting better quality for a lower price. Evan Heon was the sales associate who helped us. He was very knowledgeable and super helpful. He is a true asset to Micro Center as we dropped way more cash than we intended and still walked away very satisfied. I would definitely shop here again. Slightly sadder every time I visit. I feel like they should have a sign outside that says "The light has gone out, but we still (technically) work." I do/did like to swing by when they have something in stock that I'd rather buy at a brick-and-mortar store, but they do make it difficult. This time it happened to be that the item I wanted was a better price at Amazon. Despite being able to complete the purchase at Amazon that day, the item would not ship from Amazon for 1 to 3 weeks. After 5 years of having my pc I decided to finally upgrade. I always go to Microcenter for pc parts because they always have everything in stock. I had a young gentleman help me pick out what I needed for my new pc and he was super duper helpful. Everyone here has knowledge, when it comes to pc they know their stuff. Since there is a shortage of graphic cards everywhere, Microcenter gave me a deal. If I let them build my pc they will offer me a really good graphic card, which was the 3060 ti. At first I was ehh about it because I didn't really trust them building it but I gave it a shot for that graphic card. The build took about a week and it was beautiful, I was so in love with how it looked. When I brought it home and tried out some games like valorant I would play for a little bit then I would get blue screen of death ..... I was so annoyed and started to regret having them build it.. I took it back to Microcenter and I told them my concern and that's where I met the manger name Yonas. He was super helpful when he heard my situation and did everything in his ability to fix the problem. I waited about 4 hours when I brought it back. After testing everything my pc was good to go. At this point I was like " ok maybe it won't give me the blue screen of death anymore " but I was wrong I took it back home and was even more frustrated because if kept giving me blue screen of death.. I contacted the Microcenter tech team and everything just to see if everything was working properly via online. At this point I was just regretting everything since I spent a lot on this build I just wanted to return everything. I was going through it haha. The manager reached out to me personally that he will do anything to make this pc work for me and he kept his word. I brought it back and I told him that I wanted everything to be rebuild because it could of been a hardware issue. This time the fix took about a week. When I came I was losing hope and didn't want to get my hopes up but I trusted the the manager he told me he will always help me even if it was to break again. I took my pc home plugged it in hoping I didn't need to bring it back a third time. I played all night, tried different games and played the heck out of it and guess what? No blue screen of death!!! I was in such a relief that my baby finally works!! I was super happy and excited to use my new pc. All thanks to the manager Yonas and his team for helping me fix the problem. I can't thank Yonas enough for helping me every bit of the way! Thank you again!! I recommend Microcenter to everyone, even tho the situation was difficult everyone including me was calm. I didn't really make a big deal because problems like this can be fixed so my advice to everyone is to be calm and things will turn out good. Four stars. I came by today to grab a can of compressed air. This is one of the stores specialized in electronics and computer supplies in Cambridge, which are getting rare these days. Guess Amazon puts pressure on these retail stores. Fry's just closed its doors, and it is good to see Micro Center is still open. There are large photos of the Jedi Masters of computer science hanging on the walls inside the store, which reminds me the days when many nerdies rushed into the computer stores trying to get hold of components and accessories for their home assembled computers. read more

I am a computer engineer with over 40 years of experience. So, I talk the talk and walk the walk. When I step into the Micro Center the sales people ask me if I need help. I have told them I want to do this but they say um you may want to do it this way, which would be much simpler. One time I was in there and was talking to the salesperson and said I am interviewing with so and so. They would say whoa they were hacked big time, rethink who you want to work for. So, they have the pulse of the industry. If I need some unusual part or cable, they have it. When I have a problem, I talk to the manager and they always make it right. I registered with them and every so often I get an email with a coupon for so much off if I take it. Honestly, I think they should change the name of the store to geeks amour. I mean lets face facts, the only reason I went out of my way to venture to this awful geographic location was because my local Best Buy didn't have the Sonos sub woofer speaker I wanted. Other than that, I would of never drove to this location which actually sits in one of the worst traffic nightmares in Boston. This sits on the side of the Charles near Cambridge campuses and is a pretty large place. Getting there if you are driving is a nightmare of epic proportions since its a serious drive into a sea of bumper to bumper traffic at all hours of the day. The place is basically a computer warehouse of sorts and the employees, lets just say are mostly college kids from the area schools, majority a bunch of computer nerds that work here which is not a bad thing since most will know what type of advice to give unlike Best Buy. However, what I did notice was the prices here are not very competitive and although they most likely have a serious inventory of supplies, you will most likely pay above what the market price is, of which you can easily find at Best Buy, Staples and Amazon. I won't ever probably come back here due to location and prices but it was an adventure. read more

If you've been to a Fry's, then you're familiar with the Micro Center concept. Everything you would need to put together a computer from loose parts or purchase one whole. Printers and monitors and all sorts of accessories. Computer mouse, mouse pads, keyboards, game controllers, just an impressive list. Most of the items are priced, many of them are not. Nothing on the shelf, nothing on the item itself, I don't know if you're supposed to guess or take things up front or what. The store is clean and well stocked. They pretty much have everything. **** Spectacular repair experience **** When the speakers on a laptop stopped working properly, we brought the machine to the micro center service department. While Micro Center had the machine, and during the initial stages of the repair effort, the speakers began working properly for no apparent reason. As a response, Micro Center charged us zero for this effort and returned the machine to us. This is just a spectacular way to treat a customer. Had a tough experience yesterday in the store. My fault partially. I had some filament for my 3d printer that I had purchased 7 months ago. But I never used it. It was still sealed. I attempted to exchange it for different material. I was told flat out no.... I've been shopping at Microcenter, perhaps since the day they opened. They're not perfect - and I'm 100% certain that a 'perfect' computer store doesn't exist. What they do offer is components and replacement parts at reasonable prices. Our desktops are Microcenter house-brand - and when I needed a new power supply after 5 years, they had replacements on the shelf. Yes, I could have bought one on ebay and saved a dollar or two, but operating a brick-and-mortar store costs more. And I was able to get my desktop up and running again in an hour, not days. Those who complained that the salespeople aren't very knowledgeable - any computer geek will tell you that you need to know what you want BEFORE you go out to buy it. Do NOT go there for apple repair. The Apple website sent me them as an option and they had the most immediate appointment, so I went . They said my screen was cracked and it would be $900 to fix and take a week plus, so I should just get a new computer for $1100. I did that (after asking a million questions). Today I took the broken computer to apple bc it just didn't feel right to throw it away, and they said it was under warranty and will fix it FREE in 3 days and ship it back to my house. The store manager is beyond clueless and dishonest, one of the associates actually made a culturally inappropriate remark, and the corporate leadership I contacted did not respond at all. They also charge for services such as diagnostics that their competition (Staples, Best Buy, etc.) offer for free. Neat (like cool) tech store! They have a lot of products available, various brands, and great prices! The store appeared to be well stocked and maintained. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and there were plenty of workers available and eager to help. While the service was great, it was a little overwhelming and that is my biggest critique and reason for 4 stars instead of 5. It seems like they make commissions based on helping (they add stickers with their name/barcode to the products), so people come up to you often - sometimes different or even the same person.. kind of feels like you are being followed... If you need or want the help then it's great, but if you like to look around, don't want to feel "pressured", and/or know what you want it's a little much. With that aside it's a great store for technology-related products and I definitely recommend checking it out... and there is a decent sized parking lot if parking is of concern- big plus that Trader Joe's is next door! read more

I've been shopping in this store since 2015, been always a "coming back" customer and micro center was a place to go for me. For past 2 months I spent ~$2000 in this place however they would not accept my offer. I requested to trade in 600$ monitor(Samsung odyssey g7 28") for a lower price to get 3x 700$(samsung odyssey g7 27") monitors so I don't have to deal with reselling, which would bring them another 2100$ of revenue. Both monitors are high end. There is no reason to not accept my offer, there is no defect or malfunction. Micro center Cambridge just lost its devoted customer. I love this store. The employees are helpful and knowledgeable, and they have great products. I always come here to buy computers. Minus one star for the horrible, ugly, slow, hard-to-navigate website and nonexistent phone contact. I wanted to buy a blue light filter for my new computer I bought there recently, but I wanted to make sure they had them first. I can't imagine why they wouldn't, but I didn't want to get over there and find they didn't. I tried searching the website all different ways and could not locate what I wanted. So I tried the live text help. What a joke. I just got back some random texts that told me to search the website. The website is very slow. It looks like it was designed over 20 years ago, as well! So then I finally found their phone number on Yelp and called it. It's a national line that put me on hold (my call was "very important to them" - a bad sign!) and I finally gave up. Useless Tech / No Communication There is quite a bit here, so bear with me: Initially ordered the Computer Diagnostics online. I selected my date and time and input my payment information. Two days later, I get an email stating that my order was canceled due to "stock availability" or my "order was not picked up." I thought this was strange, so I called Micro Center and they said I didn't need an appointment to just bring it in. So I did just that. I brought my PC in on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 12:30pm. Mind you, their website says 1-2 hour diagnostics on most things, which I understand some things are a little more serious than others. However, the website does advertise same-day diagnostics if you bring it in 4 hours before they close. So I called around 4pm to check on the progress of my order - and they hadn't even started it. I was told that I would get an update soon on the progress. I call again at 6pm to check the status and the tech was finally working on it and said it was passing all hardware tests and that he would finish it in the morning (Sunday, May 7, 2023) and update me. I asked about the same-day diagnosis and he stated "sorry for our website misleading you, but same-day is 24 hours." After much disagreement, I said sure. So I waited until the next day about 26 hours after I dropped off my PC. I call back for an update and I was informed that my tech wasn't even working that day and they he would be in the next day (Monday, May 8, 2023). At this point I am furious. These folks don't know what the heck they're doing. I finally get a text message from my tech stating that there are "five cases of malware" on my PC and that they could remove it for me for $99.99 and also suggested reimaging Windows for $99.99. I told them I could reimage Windows myself and opted to pick the PC up and take it home. Here is the kicker - when I got my PC home and booted her up.... it wouldn't boot. It stuck on the motherboard splash screen. My SSD was busted. I called Micro Center to explain what happened and another tech said to bring it back in so we can look at it. I live over an hour away from this place and they wanted me to bring it back in so they could screw my PC up more? No. I purchased a new SSD and installed it myself, along with a new copy of Windows and works like a charm. Don't trust the techs here. They don't communicate with you and also break you property. If I could give a 0 / 10, I would. Waste of time and money. read more

They take entirely too long to do anything. A simple diagnosis that I should've just done on my own. The same day diagnostics is a complete scam. My problem could've been solved already if I hadn't chosen to take the "convenient" path. If you're ever having pc problems, I suggest going to a local repair shop instead. read more

When you are trying to build a computer and can't wait 1-2 days for shipping, you must go to Microcenter. The ads are actually really good, so sign up for the email list. I even got a free 32 gb flash drive for being a previous customer and being on the mailing list. I built my machine here from scratch and they really have a ton of parts here. They have bunch of used parts lying around, and I would recommend gambling on used parts. They do cover used parts to a certain extent, too. The machine I built had a bargain bin motherboard and it is still kicking after 3 years. The staff is normally pretty helpful, but can be somewhat aggressive sometimes. Gotta get that commission with stickers! Not sure if they still have the free CPU magazines, but I thought those were cool to grab and read about the latest tech. read more

If you're looking for graphics cards, and you stand in line for hours until they open - DON'T GO ON THE WEEKEND. Apparently they RARELY receive shipments on the weekends. Does Micro Center care about their customers? Clearly NOT! Store opens at 10am on Saturday. Staff had arrived earlier and saw the queue outside; at least 20 deep. They knew they didn't have any graphics cards, yet didn't tell us UNTIL 10am AS WE'RE WALKING THROUGH THE DOOR! MicroCenter Staff - How about some common courtesy and make an announcement to the crowd AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! The staff has consistently lied to us - claiming they receive these graphic cards every day. As they're in demand, you need to show up early....Fine. I get that. BUT, if you don't have them in stock, don't make us wait. read more

Annoying Sales people, They need to lay off the obvious that they are on commission, it's a customer turn off.. Prices on many products aren't clearly labeled. I just wanted a ream of computer paper. none of the paper reams where marked with prices but one. You had to flag down a Sales person just to get a price quote on paper. I didn't bother. Customer. Service a bit spotty. (it was hard to get answers on when my parts order was ready.)(I also was looking for a certain cable adapter, sales person couldn't find it. said, " I'll check in the back" sales person never returned.) Price quotes don't match up from website to store. ( was quoted $100 more on a custom PC build in-store, than what was quoted on the website. Plus I was charged a $40 fee for bring in my own parts. this Fee wasn't clearly stated anywhere. The $40 intake fee is buried in the website) So Basically I paid and Extra $140 more for my PC Build. I had no choice but to pay it. Very Displeased about this. I would Not Recommend using Micro Center to anyone for a PC build. The communication between You and the Tech is pretty spotty. I had to go there 3 times for them to get it right. I would Recommend using Micro Center for it's variety for products. Example (Hobby,DIY, Adriuno, Geeky Stuff, Ect) I will continue to shop there on certain Items, But I would defiantly do my research online for competitive pricing. read more

The employees should all as mind as well have a tattoo on their foreheads that say "I make commission" I mean seriously I went in to grab a specific CPU and motherboard and 3 different guys had to offer their opinion unsolicited about why the motherboard I picked wasn't going to work out for me. Obviously the ones they recommended were like double what I wanted to spend, the solution... grab the motherboard I walked in for and take the salespersons personalized sticker off my paperwork because recommending the most expensive thing on the shelf isn't customer service. Also I heard several employees lying to customers to sell micro center services. For example I heard one employee say "AppleCare+ for Mac doesn't cover liquid damage" that's not only a lie but micro center's insurance is more expensive than AppleCare. You would think that a place that doesn't offer any services you can't get online would give you some incentive to buy in store instead of just getting everything cheaper through Amazon prime. read more

What a place! Here you find any little and large electronic equipment you are searching to have. From Lenovo to Microsoft to Apples to Aliean ware is here. They have an apple service center and a build you own computer section. Looking for flat screen, well they have the best selections! The staff is both lovable and smart being the help you need when dealing with these products! They help you with everything and answer all questions.
