This new Target does seem to have all the usual goodies. The store is on two floors with some merchandise on the ground floor and the rest of it upstairs. Looking for two specific things, it definitely took me a while to locate either of them. The store has a very strange layout. Not just the way the departments are set up but even how the shelves are angled. Lots of weird corners and supporting pilings in the middle of places. It's just odd. I purchased the Deviled Egg Potato Salad the day before yesterday morning in good faith assuming that a large, American corporation knows how to monitor its' inventory. When I lifted off the lid I noticed the sickly, grayish color of the product. I immediately looked at the expiration date which indicated June 10. The product, although chilled at that time, was 10 days beyond expiration. I returned the unopened container to Jaimie, the store manager, who apologized and issued a refund along with a $5 store credit. What I wonder is how sorry she would have felt had I ate the grey potato salad and subsequently rushed to the ER deathly ill. read more

This review is solely about the manager Junior. I purchased ensure max protein shakes on November 7th. I opened one on November 8th and found that it was a bad batch. I attempted to do an exchange and he coldly said "we don't do exchanges ". I then had to be the one to say ok well, I guess do the return and then I can take the credit to purchase the new ones. He begins the return and then says to me well you won't get the $6 off that you originally got off because with returns you lose your coupons. I then told him that he needs to make some type of accommodation because it isn't my fault that the shakes were bad. He nonchalantly said can't do it. I asked for the manager he said I am the manager. I threw the new shakes on the counter and took the old ones back and went back to my car. I called customer relations and they apologized for the situation and said they can apply $6 to a gift card for future reference to accommodate the discounted rate. Junior could've easily have done that and Junior needs to learn customer service. read more

Would give this abomination of retail less then 1 if I could. Imagine taking the worst parts of all targets and condensing them down into a small disorganized and empty store. So many empty spots on shelf. Nothing is ever on order to restore any items that are empty. Why even have space for them in shelf. Would have spent hundreds here if they just have the things stocked. This location just locked nearly ALL of their items behind locked doors, and there are NO EMPLOYEES there to help people out. All cleaning products, personal hygiene, otc medicine and first aid, nearly everything but food. This is in a very safe and low crime area, so was completely unnecessary. They need to realize that they are 20 steps from a CVS, and 100 steps from a grocery store. Dealing with this nuisance isn't worth the $2-3 I'll save over going to CVS. I won't be back until they remove these doors. read more

This Target is so convenient. It's directly across from the Porter Square T station and is next door to the 24-hour CVS. Sure, they're competing businesses, but I appreciate the options available at both places. The Target is clean, and the staff is friendly. Their security is constantly on guard, though, since there have been multiple attempts of theft. (I've witnessed at least 3 times where a person is attempting to run out of the store with products, and twice when police were called to help.) That's a bit jarring, but I understand their need to be watching all guests. The environment is more relaxed at the other, larger locations where they have a larger security team. Since it's smaller, security and staff will likely check-in with you just as a security precaution. If I hadn't witnessed the other events, I would be a bit put off by it. The layout is a bit strange, but navigating it isn't too difficult if you aren't in a rush. I appreciate the access to fresh groceries at reasonable prices, so it's easy to stop by and pick up what's needed throughout the week. read more

This Incident happened around 4:30 PM, on Saturday, February 6, 2021 I came here and sat down with my wife for a quick break after a long walk. We used the bathroom and our first bad experience was the fact that they ran out of hand sanitizer outside the bathrooms. Luckily we had our own. Both my wife and I were a bit uncomfortable with the social distancing in the bathrooms as well. But, we informed the staff of both of these things and they were friendly enough. Things totally fell apart after this. We took a quick sitting break in the a sitting area adjacent to the first floor shopping. It was empty with only one other person there. We After 2-3 minutes, a security guard approached us and informed us that we need to be six feet apart, because of COVID protocol. This is understandable. But, clearly my wife and I are part of the same household. I replied to the security guard and said "Even though we are in the same house?". Oh Gosh! You would have thought I insulted the man's mother. He went on and on and would not let us speak to him. My wife said "he was just asking." He said "if you don't like it you can leave". I said "it was just a question". He said "My point is, you don't need to ask me a question." And then went on and on again about us not following protocol. I then (regrettably) apologized for offending him. That somehow was offensive. He then went on about how this conversation is over, and that he is ending the conversation right now. At that point, I just stared and him until he stopped his rant and insults. Eventually he walked away with me left just looking at the him. This begs me to wonder, what conversation? He just yelled at us and insulted us. I had three sentences in total. My wife had one. Anytime we tried to say anything, he just continuously cut us off. I have not had someone talk to me like that since I was a child. I was left in shock that this man could talk to us like this. I chose to stay silent to avoid escalating the situation. My wife said "this man is clearly incapable of having an adult conversation". I am clearly quite insulted. To the point on my brother-in-law says "I've never seen you quite this bothered before." Replaying this over multiple times in my head, I've concluded that a few things are clear. 1. This guy does not understand social distancing. One does not need to social distance with their partner that they live with. 2. This guy was very angry and took it out on us. He clearly wanted to pick a fight. 3. He would not walk away unless he had the last word. In his head, the only way this "conversation" could end is with one of his insults. With customer facing individuals like this, it is impossible to have a pleasant experience. I tried to call the customer service line to complain, but they are not picking up their phone. So here I am, venting my poor experience on Yelp. read more

I love target but this was the first time I couldn't wait to get out of a target. The layout was really weird and the selection was super scarce. You have to use the super slow elevator if you use a cart because the escalator isn't equipped for it. Many things I needed were out of stock and I had trouble figuring out where things were located. Like baby clothes are downstairs but baby items were upstairs? Okay... I generally know the logic of Target's layout pretty well where even if it's my first time at a target, I know where to find stuff but instead, I spent most of my time at this one being lost and annoyed because when I finally found what I was looking for, the shelf space was empty. read more

I'm always happy to see businesses go into long-empty storefronts, but wonder why a mini-Target went into this location. #1, there's a full-scale Target further down Somerville Ave., and #2, as Katie S. noted, what it focuses heavily on - groceries, and health and beauty products - are already provided by the CVS and Star Market in the same plaza. My gym's in Porter Square, and I've been into the Target a couple of times. I'm guessing this location is geared towards college students/young professionals in the area. There is a home furnishings section upstairs, stuff like desk lamps and bath rugs. The grocery section is surprisingly well-stocked - I wasn't expecting to find everything on my list there, but I did. And make-up/shampoo etc. is also well-represented. Everything else is minimal. The greeters at the door neither said hello nor "thank you" when I left. (Don't worry, we all know you're otherwise too cool to be working at Target.) read more

This target is in a really convenient location, but it's so hard to find anything in the store. They have a very limited amount of space so it's a very strange layout and very tightly packed. They don't have very many produce options in the grocery section and always seem to have everything except the one thing I need. The staff there are generally friendly, but I think they get a little aggravated with the amount of customers coming up to ask where things are. The escalator doesn't allow carts, which means you have to take a very slow elevator to get up and down stairs. One time I went in, and the escalator was out of service, so it was either take the elevator (which was forming a line) or exit the store to take the stairs in the building. This target is fine if you just need a few things, but it's definitely not good for a big run. If you really need to go to a target, there's a better one that's not far and accessible by bus, but if you can go without, there are plenty of other places in the area that will likely have what you need. read more

The location of this Target is great but the inventory is terrible. I guess that's the downside of all these mini-Targets everywhere. Half of the planogram on the 2nd floor is extremely confusing; everything besides the grocery section is extremely difficult to find. I spent so much time walking around looking for stuff they didn't even have in stock that when I finally left without buying anything the security team clearly thought I was stealing stuff - which is funny because I work at a different Target. read more

Love having this city target so close by. Obviously the selection is going to be more scarce than a regular target due to its size and city location. But I have found that they pretty much have whatever you're looking for, just not 10 different choices like a standard target. I like how it's walkable, as the one in Somerville is so far you have to drive. Lastly, I think it competes well with CVS's sky high prices. read more

This Target is a dissapointment. I live nearby, go regularly, and they never have what you need. Once I walked in with my mom saying "This Target has everything, but nothing at all." A lady who overheard me said that comment should be its slogan. They give so much space to food and not enough to electronics, appliances, etc. I find this cray because Star Market/CVS are next door for food needs. read more

I bought $200 apple store gift card in there on Nov 28, but the gift card was not activated. I argued with the target clerk and they said they can return me $200 gift card. But when I use that gift card today, I found there are only $100. I am so angry and disappointed but I don't have any proof now, because they don't give me any receipt. I hate to give only three stars but hear me out. I went to this location the night of its grand opening. There was an employee standing by the door with what looked like coupons and totes that were supposed to be given to the first 1,000 customers. She greeted us but didn't offer a bag or coupon. We looked around the first floor (will give review on the actual store in the next section of my review.) We then go upstairs I saw an employee with totes and asked if I could have one as did a few shoppers. He was very friendly and seemed happy to be there. I started looking around the grocery section and was followed/watched by a young male employee. I almost yelled at him. I'm not a thief and didn't appreciate being treated like one. I don't even fit the description of one. Middle aged (look young though) well dressed, walking and chatting with my friend about how this Target location used to be a Blockbuster video store. This same employee came downstairs after me and alerted the ladies at the checkout there that I bought something upstairs. Umm okay. I felt really uncomfortable there as did my friend. I've never felt that way in a store. I shop the big Target down the street all the time with no issue, this completely ruined my experience. Now about the actual store. It looks great though it really is just a tiny selection of everything in a big Target. I wish they had a bigger clothing section, maybe even with shoes since Porter Square has been lacking in that department for a decade or two now. I can get groceries at Starmarket and self care at CVS, all right there. But clothing, shoes, accessories, home items, electronics, you can't get that anywhere else in Porter. The first floor has makeup and self care items such as shampoo and soap. It also has a tiny children's clothing section, tiny men's section and tiny women's section which includes accessories such a jewelry, along with two fitting rooms. The rest is all upstairs. The biggest section of the entire store is grocery. They do have competitive prices to Starmarket. But I was surprised that it was so large considering the grocery store across the lot. The food looked fresh and the setup was nice. The other side of the second floor included a tiny toy, electronics and homes section. The aisles were set up odd which felt like a maze, but like anything new you can get used to it. When we left the store we heard a couple behind us mention how they never got a tote. I guess it was something we had to ask for? All in all the store itself is cute and most of the employees were super friendly and made me feel comfortable. But that one young man definitely ruins it for me. I will likely be back but dreading seeing that employee and feeling that uncomfortable again. Hoping to have better experiences in the future. I'd go back to grab some odds and ends. And for real actual shopping will continue to shop at the big Target down the street from this one. I do recommend checking out this location. read more
