I had a buffalo exchange store credit and we decided to stop by on our way home from Salem. They have a great selection of unique pieces for both genders, including some higher and brands. Prices are OK, but definitely not a thrift store experience. Downstairs has more footwear, other clothing, and some cool vintage pieces. There's a fitting room for you to try on your fines before purchasing. The luxury and super high end brands are behind the counter. I ended up buying Shacket and a cute keychain/purse, pal. I had enough money on my credit to cover everything, but merchandise credit can't be applied to tax, which was a bummer. So I have a dollar left on it! Lol. Street parking is available, and it's located in a cool college town with plenty of other restaurants and small shops. If I were in the area again, I'd stop by here. read more

Sunday thrift day! We visited Buffalo Exchange's Brookline location for the first time a few days ago & had great success foraging, so we decided to give the Davis Sq. location a gander today since we were lurking around the area anyways. This location is quite large, with two floors of clothes + goodies. Prices are fair. I found that this Buffalo Exchange has more fast fashion pieces compared to the Brookline store, so I would say that I had more luck at their other location. I didn't find much that caught my eye but will definitely visit more in the future. Hopefully next time I will have more luck haha. Parking can be found on Elm St; Meter parking spots! read more

On route around Boston to find good thrifts. This store def has different style of clothing and less selection of shoes I personally target, more females shoes at this location. There are two floors, so you can check out downstairs too. They seem to be constantly buying and the staff were nice and trucking around bins to put pieces out on the floor. Didnt find anything personally here but the shop is overall clean and organized. In a busy area parking on Sunday was a breeze. read more

the staff was really nice and efficient , i don't take anything personally if they don't want to buy clothes it's up to their discretion but i felt robbed after i got home. i was paid 17.50 when they bought a brand new dollskill dress with the tags on that's worth $80 a $60 unworn skirt and multiple other items they also tried to offer me $20 for a $200 brand new juicy one piece which equals to like $12 i'd make from the sale with their weird percentage system lol i took it back. i honestly wish i didn't sell my nice items to them and severely regret it. it was over an hour drive there and back , i had to haul my big bags in on a 11 minute walk due to the lack of parking , i think i spent the amount i made in gas 1000% not worth the hassle the seller experience is nice but unless you want to get robbed maybe choose somewhere else read more

Not to be confused with Buffalo Sexchange, which is where you can get your gender re-assigned. It's a consignment store, unfortunately, not a re-assignment store. Oh well. Pretty cute consignment shop in Somerville close to Boston which has a lot of hipsters coming here and it's not cheap - but then neither is anything in this area and if you get over the pricing, they actually have some really cool stuff - especially for people that live in these neighbourhoods and want to be cool and trendy. Definitely one of the better consignment shops in the area that I've been in, although I haven't been in that many. Comprable to some of the ones in Brooklyn actually and in terms of prices as well. read more

This review is for selling only/closet clean out. I've been back again in January 2021 and March 2021. The process is different now, they will go through the clothes at the store at the time of your appointment. They've been backed up with appointments before so i had to wait 30 min until they looked through my bag. The first time they went through the clothes in front of me. The second time, the girl said she would call me over when she would go through my items as there was bag in front of me; she never did. I told her I would be browsing on the same floor and it was not busy in the store at the time. I had to ask another worker when I saw my bag on the floor and there was a sticky note noting I got about $20. Masks are required in the store. They are very picky on. I just try to sell what I can and donate the rest. read more

I sold merchandise at the Somerville location yesterday. The manager Hope assisted in this selling process. She was very kind, attentive, and knowledgeable with the store policies and processes which I was interested in. If an item was questionable she would kindly explain with reason. I must say Hope and the entire staff are very welcoming and friendly. It makes it a pleasureable experience when shopping at this location. Helps me creatively stretch both my "passing" wardrobe as well as my rainbow unicorn romp looks. Went in today to find a sexy playful fierce femme outfit for a party coming up. When I asked at the register for assistance creating a look, Sophia asked on-point clarifying questions and then sent me to Serena, who gave me some clear empowering suggestions about skirts, both style and sizing, and set me loose. Buffalo has taken a fair amount of my clothes helping me rack up probably ~$300-$400 in store credit over the years. They explain really well why they won't accept some stuff. There were a handful of times they took nothing and that is absolutely normal. If you're going to sell here have zero expectations. Don't get all butthurt that they didn't like x or y as all the low ratings mention. It's usually a hit or miss but that's how shopping goes. The people that work here are nice. I will say that the prices did go up. I did find a cute dress that was unfortunately stained and tried to get a price reduction. Only got $2 off. I don't think management is encouraged to negotiate prices. If this was not a chain it might have been differently. read more

Read before you waste your time here‼ Great sesspool! what a horrible useless waste of tax money space and revenue to keep that dump in business! there was stains all over the floor. Somebody asked to leave and go outside and throw up in front of customers ass I was told there was going to be a 20 minute wait when it's really a 24 minute wait what a horrible place on earth they should've just puked on me. I would've just felt the same way like everyone else that walks into that sewage! and that's the real reason you have to wear a mask because this place is so disgusting that you have to wear a mask to deal with these idiots! then they tell me to go to another store, they treat me like I'm almost as ugly as they are business! because I feel like a toilet plunger for walking in that place! This is a review for selling. It's as bad as all of the other reviewers say it is. You will not be the exception, you will be the rule. I have never encountered people as bad at spelling names and emails and taking down phone numbers on the phone as the associates here. I made an appointment to drop off clothes and was sent an email confirmation. When I dropped off clothes, they somehow had lost my email and made me tell them again. When they never emailed me as promised, I called them again, and they claimed they hadn't had my email address. I'm not sure how. I dropped off around 40 very nice items including top brands like of jeans like sevens and citizens. I received 20 dollars. I think they lost my account and just sent me a random amount. Impossible to verify because they won't tell you. Save your time and just donate the clothes. You'll feel better about yourself and you won't have to talk to them on the phone. I would have paid 20 dollars to not do this. read more

A worker who was stocking the women's section downstairs - Gloria - went out of her way to help me and my girlfriend find clothes that suited each of our styles. Brought in a lot of relatively unworn items. Only thing they wanted was a pair of jeans that was embroidered all over with mushrooms. This pair of jeans had a tag on for $198. They offered me $20 and told me they didn't want anything else because of the "condition". As I mentioned previously 90% of the stuff was worn once or not at all. This was actually a humiliating experience because I would never try to sell anything in bad condition as I am a decent person with standards. Anyway, don't go here to be treated poorly by the unfashionable people they hire. They literally sell stuff from target and refuse free people. read more

I came here with some clothes that Raspberry Beret had rejected, hoping that Buffalo Exchange would take them, and they looked through all the items and didn't take a single thing, saying that they only take items that are representative of current trends and demand. This review is for both buying and selling. Selling: the staff is too preoccupied with gossiping about who's getting fired downstairs (looking at you, guy with orange-dyed hair) to pay attention to any items that they are "examining". Claimed they don't sell sneakers when examining a once-worn, perfect condition pair of adidas shoes. Completely ignored multiple new with tags lululemon and madewell items. (I had bought them pre-COVID and then gained a bunch of COVID weight, so they really hadn't even had a chance to be worn yet.) Buying: maybe it's my age, but I found the excessive amount of cropped tops and sweaters to be frustrating. I understand that's what's trendy right now, but there were practically no normal length tops or sweaters to be found. This may be fine for students and the like, but some people like to be able to look in thrift stores for work-appropriate clothing. As others have mentioned, the stuff that does make it on the floor is often either overpriced ($28 for a forever 21 denim jacket?) or in poor condition or both. Bottom line: it's clear that the store is being run by a bunch of college-age kids who are less concerned about what customers want to shop for and more concerned about chatting it up behind the register. read more

Five stars for buying, more like 2-3 for selling. This review is on the selling. There's no system so when 10 people walk in, there's no space for a line leaving everyone confused as to who's next in line. There are five chairs so you can sit while you wait unless there are more people there to sell (like today). They really need to come up with either a numbering system where you take a ticket when you walk in to sell, or put tickets on bags with people's names and phone #'s and they'll call you when they're done or almost done with your stuff. I didn't expect to sell much out of my huge duffel bag, but I sold even less than expensive. Some were rejected based on wear, which I understand, some were rejected because they're looking for the latest trends and apparently my stuff wasn't trendy enough. I can't really argue with that either, but it doesn't make you feel like you have great taste, and waiting in "line" for 45 minutes was kind of a waste. TLDR: They give you 50% of the selling price if you take store credit (I'll take it) or 30% of the selling price if you want cash, but don't accept most items. read more

Used to love this place-- was always a perfect spot for affordable finds on unique and fun clothes. But had a bad experience yesterday that was just enough to make me boycott it forever. Bought a dress here for a friend for $12, and asked the cashier if I could return it if it didn't fit her. She said yes, but it would be for store credit only. No problem! So I left Boston to visit my friend in NH and gave her the entire lot of the $60 I spent on clothes for her, and the one dress didn't fit. So once I got back from NH and tried to return the dress (tag still on), the manager said no because I was two days past the VERY short 5 day return policy. She said "we are a small retail store and have this return policy so that we can stay in business." They are a chain and have stores all over the ENTIRE country--- it's not a small independently owned mom and pop! I didn't argue with her. If she wants to lose a regular customer that spends hundreds of dollars a year at this one location plus all the clothes I sell there... That's fine. Customer service is EVERYTHING to me, and to turn me away over a $12 credit/exchange showed me how much I was worth as their customer. read more

Ok, at this point even the buying experience here has deteriorated. I have like $100 in store credit from selling, but this store is stocked with such trash that I'll probably never use it. It's impossible to browse without triggering an avalanche of clothing because the racks are overstuffed, and besides the ultra cheap brand names (which I acknowledge as par for the course with a place like this), the clothes are simply in unacceptable condition - pilling, torn, stained, and smelly. For a brief moment I thought I found a simple, long-sleeved collared shirt in decent shape...but in the dressing room realized it was missing multiple buttons. Honestly, if you're willing to search through piles of questionable clothes, go to Goodwill (and I say this having a genuine appreciation of Goodwill - you'll find great stuff at great prices, it's just a needle in a haystack situation). Or if you're looking for something slightly higher-end and want someone else to curate the selection, try Swank Seconds. But Buff Exchange is just a hot mess. read more

I've been coming to this Buffalo Exchange for a few years. I don't always find something and that's okay. Out of the 3 secondhand stores in Davis (Buffalo Exchange, Thrive, Goodwill), BE is definitely the most organized and my style. Prices are a little higher than the other two. Items are sorted by size (thank you!!). Some items do get misplaced so you might want to do *some* digging, but it's a lot more manageable imo. Bring your own bag! read more

I suppose it is convenient that you can drop in anytime to give them clothes, however I think it would work better if they set up appointments like other consignment shops, because on busy days like Saturday you end up waiting in line for 20+ minutes, especially if you're standing behind someone who is giving up piles and piles of clothing. Also they didn't even accept my designer Chloe dress... like the dress retailed for over $800. I guess my mistake for thinking it'd be worth it to take to Buffalo Exchange. read more

I came to Buffalo Exchange with two duffel bags full of clothing items (pants, shorts, shirts, dresses), shoes, and purses, most of which were very lightly used and some of them not at all (hence why I was selling them...). A large portion of these items were also well known brand names. They spend not even 5 minutes looking through the entirety of the two bags of items and told me that they were not going to buy even one of those items. They are literally selling tie dye tshirts but will not buy back even one item that I brought in. Personally I find it hard to believe that you could come to a reasonable conclusion on all of these items, 45 in total, in the span of maybe 5 minutes if I'm being generous. If I didn't know better, I would say that the people working the store didn't want to be bothered to use any amount of integrity or work ethic to thoroughly evaluate the items they were given and decided just to toss aside the whole collection. It's not my fault that the store is busy, but as someone who has worked through busy shifts in customer service, you still need to put your best foot forward and do your job properly. And just to add a final comment, they weren't very nice either. After telling me they were going to buy no items, I was obviously surprised, so after taking my time to respond in a calm voice and ask why I was met with snarky remarks. They need to get over themselves, they are literally selling tie dye tshirts yet they cannot buy a pair of once-worn dress shoes that frankly looked exactly the same as shoes I saw on the display rack. If anyone from this store actually reads this, perhaps the woman who claimed to be helping me who apparently was the manager (completely useless at that), maybe you could try not to be so terrible to people trying to better themselves financially and be able to put a bit more cash in their pocket. This is the nicest I know how to say this; the fact that this is an online public-viewed review is why I have not said the more harsh and true things I would love to say. read more
