The three of them carefully discussed and chose a handful of relevant dresses for me to try on (I purchased 2!). I was in Boston recently and decided to hit up Reformation since I'd only ever shopped from them online and never had a chance to go to a store and actually try the clothes on ahead of making a purchase. There were a few dresses online that I had my eye on, and I was excited to try them on. As I entered I felt a bit like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. There weren't many customers in the shop (weekday), but I felt totally lost because it looked like they only had one of each item on the racks. (Side-note: the tiniest sizes, of course.) I looked totally bewildered, but no one working there came up to me, they were huddled around the check-out counter chatting and occasionally looking over at me. Eventually, I approached them and asked them the process to try things on since there was only one size of each item. One of them glanced over my shoulder at the screen on the wall and said I just pick out the item on the screen and request my size and someone would pull the item from the back and start a fitting room. I've never experienced this process at a store before, and am down for innovation, but there were no smiles, no signs explaining the process, nothing that felt inclusive or friendly at all. Besides that, they only seemed to have the most recent collection, and were missing tried and true staple dresses that are popular on the website. Ultimately, I tried on one dress in a couple of sizes and left without anything. The experience was pretty uncomfortable and uninviting, so it is extremely unlikely I'll return. I'll just shop their online store and cross my fingers it fits...

I stopped by Madewell and the gals at the denim bar there helped me tremendously. I went in to the store with 2 asks - 1. Return/ exchange a specific belt (children section) with a bigger size. I don't think I can say enough positive things about my first experience at Rag & Bone! The doorman…read morewas polite and cordial but nothing really beyond that so I expected this to be a somewhat stuffy store filled with slightly snobby staff. I was happily mistaken. With 30 seconds after I had started looking at clothes on the rack, an employee (Katelyn Roach) approached me and gave me a very warm welcome, asked if I had ever been to a Rag & Bone, and asked if I needed help with anything. I told her that I was hoping to try on some jeans but I wasn't going to buy any, at least not on this shopping trip. That didn't seem to bother her at all! She took me upstairs to the denim section and asked me a ton of questions about how I like my jeans to fit and what kind of washes I like. When she asked for my size, I told her and she said, "Absolutely not. I bet I can get you into a pair three sizes smaller than that". I thought she was out of her mind but sure enough, the first pair of jeans I tried on fit so nice and tight yet I could comfortably move in them...and they were 3 sizes smaller than the size I usually wear! I couldn't believe it. This was definitely a nice little self image boost :-) i tried a bunch of other jeans that she thought I would like & had me try them on with their top selling boot, the Newbury boot. She didn't even try to sell the boots to me but by the end of my shopping trip there, I wanted them very much because they looked amazing with the boot and they were insanly comfortable (not to mention that the combination of the slim fitting jeans and the boots made my legs look phenomenal haha). At this point, I had already pretty much made up my mind that there was no way I was walking out of that store without a pair of jeans in hand. Katelyn asked me a lot of questions about my personal life which I always appreciate but it wasn't in an intrusive way. At one point, she had to leave because she had to go over a few things with another staff member but she had another employee (Jessica Gushner) help me if I needed anything further. Jessica was great too and d me questions about my personal life as well. I had expressed a little concern about the longevity of the jeans because of how much I was about to spend on them and she assured me that they stand by the quality of their product and should anything happen to them, I can bring them in for an exchange or they will fix them for me. She also gave me tips for how to care for them so I can get the best use out of them for the longest period of time. I ended up settling on the first pair of jeans I tried on and when I was paying for them at the cash register, another employee made some very casual conversation with me, which only added to the enjoyment of my experience. I found out that Katelyn (the first employee who assisted me) was actually the assistant store manager, which impressed me because one would usually expect anyone in a mangerial position to act like they're above it all but that was not the case at all with her. I have never spent this much money on a single item of clothing but when I walked out of that store, I did not feel any regrets. I know it's too early to tell how long these jeans will actually last me but I feel very confident that they will last me a while. Jessica and Katelyn also invited me to stop in and say hi whenever I was in the area, which was very sweet and personable. Overall, VERY HAPPY WITH RAG & BONE :-)
