Good selection of electronics and computer supplies. Prices are the same as what you'd pay on the Internet so if you are in a rush it's convenient. The service is not super good, but that's typical of such a place. No one there is actually an expert on what they are selling. It's a notch up from best buy though. read more

My slightly older macbook stopped working, took it to apple store and they found the hard drive was the only problem but could only replace it with the original (crappy) hard drive and recommended I come to microcenter to buy and have them place a much faster SSD 256 gb hard drive. The store has many product options and a line in the back for assistance - unfortunately I was told since they are an apple certified store that they also can only replace with the original hard drive and that this happens all the time that apple store says they can't do something and says to come here and they also can't do it because they are apple certified. So bought the hard drive and took to Wang PC in brookline (who was wonderful and had flexible times to drop off and pickup) read more

I bought a used MacBook Pro here and it died a few months after I bought it and it cost me another $350 to have it repaired. Micro Center assumed no responsibility. I should've known better when they sold it to me in a cake box from a bakery. Micro Center keeps auto response saying to me and I try to contact them at the email address provided and they are nonresponsive read more

Firstly, I would like to thank Wayland, and Yonas for their superb tech knowledge! I had VRM coil whine ,and heat sink issue. They did a great job on fixing them and now they are working perfectly! Secondly, all the staffs are very highly helpful, and experienced. I truly highly recommend everyone to check this place out if you're building your first PC, or having any computer issues! read more

Micro Center is my favorite electronics store. Compared to other electronics stores, they have a much bigger selection of products, and the staff are more knowledgeable about the products. The staff are also friendly and helpful but not super pushy. I do work and hobbies in a tech-driven field and always prefer to do my research before buying. I appreciate that if I ask employees questions they'll actually tell me about the products rather than the typical insubstantial "you'll love this" kind of BS many sales people say. The last time I went there I needed a cable and the sales person asked me what it was for and several other questions to make sure it was the right type of cable. It was great he was more interested in making sure I got what I needed rather than just trying to make a sale. If I can't find specs on a product I'll just look it up on my phone and no one's ever complained or pushed me to buy stuff before I was ready. read more

This huge retail computer store sells CPU's cheaper than anywhere else, even eBay, as "loss-leader products", to get people in the door. They have a great no-questions asked policy for returns, and there are lots of staff to ask questions (verify all claims by comparing them to online newegg and amazon product reviews before you buy). The inexpensive maker/hacker/DIY section is amazing. We are truly in a golden age of do-it-yourself electronics. Invent something useful! You can also still get great computer and gaming magazines, and video games in boxes. Perfect. Buy food and drink and snacks at the Trader Joe's across the parking lot, and visit the beautiful tree and grass-covered banks of the (now actually clean) Charles River just across the highway. read more

Terrible establishment, brought computer in to get fixed paid 40 dollars, and was immediately pressed with trying to pay this and that to fix something before they even looked at it!!!! All they want is commission and unless you give them that they do terrible work or none at at all like they did to mine. NEVER SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE read more

Being an aging computer geek, MicroCenter is where I go for my computer needs. I've been a regular customer there since it opened and I do notice that the store has gotten grungier and not as well organized in recent years, Yes customer service is less than stellar, but when I've been able to snag a sales rep (one that speaks English anyway) they have always been very helpful and friendly. I have never encountered high pressure sales people What I do miss is that they no longer seem to carry a full line of their PowerSpec PC's. Two of my prior PCs were high end Power Spec; well made, no proprietary crap and a plus for me, just loasded with the OS. I'm a geek, save me the annoyance getting a machine preloaded with Ouija Board for windows or Micro$oft money, etc etc. On the couple of occasions I had to return something there was a no hassle refund or swap. Getting into and out of the parking lot at Micro Center can be like driving in a demolition derby I only go to places like Best Buy as a last resort. I seldom see Best Buy having the "best buys" read more

Microcenter is my jam. I've bought 10+ computers here over the years - mostly for family members as gifts or helping them upgrade. Great service and excellent prices. Just got a brand new iPad here on tax free weekend for less than I'd ever seen it on Amazon. I remember going on pilgrimages here from the burbs when I was in high school. They have my business 4 life! read more

I've gotten some nice items here at good prices, from a Dell laptop at better price than anywhere online, including with my employer's discount, to a couple of 4k monitors that were also a great deal. But as some reviews have mentioned, the sales experience can be a bit off. Because it is based on commission, the sales associates are eager to be the first to engage you...and everyone else that walks in the store. So, it's not always a very helpful experience. For instance, one gentleman answered a question or two about the laptop I was looking for, but then went to help other customers. I waited at least 10 minutes to ask a few more questions, wanting to give him the chance to keep his commission. I waved at him as he went by, and he told me (not very kindly) that he was with another customer right now. Another 10 minutes passed. I asked my question to another associate, who kindly and promptly looked up the specs I asked about. Then the first associate came by and very rudely informed us that I was his customer, and that he would take care of my questions. I get the commission model, but making me wait for so long, and not being very polite - you definitely didn't deserve it. I walked into the small side room that is the repair shop (the signage isn't really clear). I saw a couple of technicians there, but they looked at me quizzically and didn't say anything, so I thought I must have gone to the wrong place. I moved over to a line nearby where there is a sign for repair and returns - when I eventually reached the front of the line, I was told that I had to return to the first room. Slightly annoying -the signage should be more clear, and the technicians slightly more engaging! I then told the tech that I had a Macbook pro with water damage. He asked what size. I said 13", and he picked up a laminated price sheet and told me $1340. Incredulous, I asked if they can even look under the hood to see if there was obvious corrosion or if only a short in a minor component - he told me no, that it is a strict price structure from apple. No matter how small the potential solution - $1340 minimum. And he was super emphatic showing me the sheet and repeatedly jabbing at it. I said, I understand you don't make the price structure, it's just really high and caught me by surprise. Intent on proving that it wasn't his fault, he followed me out of the room with the sheet pointing at the price. It was very odd. I was disappointed, but not blaming him. I had even looked up the services offered at microcenter's website before going in, so that I could see if they would be able to help me and in order to save myself a trip if they couldn't. Wish I could have saved a miserable trip. After contacting apple, I think the tech was wrong on the pricing after all that. I think it would have been $1340 for a 15", and "only" $850 for my 13" according to apple's price structure. So...don't go here for macbook pro repairs if it's something that's not covered under apple care. I found Boston IPhone Repair online. Ned responded very quickly to my inquiry outlining the approach to his diagnosis. $100-200 based on how extensive the repairs are, $30 fee if they fail to find the problem for time spent. I can't wait to see what Ned can do before having to pay microcenter 850-1340 or just continuing to have a $2300 paperweight. read more

Good selection of computer components and tech stuff. However, the service was very terrible and did not enjoy buying experience there. I went in there to buy computer with financing and I was told to go to service desk. I talked to the person in service desk and he handed that off to next person (a manager) who obviously has no clue on what to do. The manager brought wrong computer and he then passed that off to another person. I had to explain the whole situation and transaction to her alll over again. Took about 30 minutes to complete the purchase. read more

I had a great experience here building my first gaming rig. I was originally going to buy all of the parts online off of NewEgg or TigerDirect. I did some price checking online and found out that they offered components at around the same price, if not CHEAPER than NewEgg. I got my Intel Quad-Core i7 3.06 processor for $50 cheaper! The staff was relatively helpful. If you are looking for someone who knows their stuff about PC's talk to Ed, he was a great help suggesting parts. He took his time to make sure I had everything that I needed, and it definitely made me glad that I had found the mecca of computer components/parts! Other staff members were sort of bored and uninterested *cough* Monitors and Desktop department. They did at least politely ask if I needed help but they weren't too helpful. I was able to build a gaming PC for around $1200 minus any extra things I might have thrown in there like Starcraft 2 and a monitor. I also got $70 in mail-in/online rebates which is pretty sweet. Here are the specs/parts if anyone is interested: -Intel quad-core i7 processor 3.06ghz -6GB RAM -1TB 7200rpm Seagate harddrive -Gigabyte x58a-ud3r motherboard -EVGA nVidia gtx465 1GB graphics card -Multicard reader -Standard DVD burner/reader w/LiteScribe internal -Logitech webcam 10MP camera 1080p -LG 19" monitor 1,000,000:1 contrast HDMI 1080p -Wireless 802.11g adapter internal -CoolerMaster Mid-Tower Case -CoolerMaster 750w power supply This place has a great selection of computer peripherals, not so much mouses (if you're looking for a gaming mouse---I recommend Razer), but lots of good speakers, tons of webcams, a decent selection of monitors and keyboards (not necessarily gaming keyboards) and lots of components to choose from. If possible I would recommend going here rather than BestBuy to save yourself some $$$ especially if you're buying computer components or even just a powerstip. The pricing here is much better. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be returning! read more

Non existent return policy. Bought a brand new motherboard and processor 48 hours ago and the motherboard would not post. Had several bent pins out of the box. Brought the receipt and all items back to the store to return it. First representative claims I caused the damage and refused the return. Passes me off to someone else who can not explain how the damage was caused but again refused the return. After repeated insistence to prove how I did it they brought a tech out with a spare processor who also could not explain how seating the processor could cause that damage. Manager offers 20% off another unit and refused to take back the motherboard that was broken. Representatives repeatedly walked away during our conversations to ignore me. Another customer overheard the conversation and explained to them they had returned a motherboard with the exact issues. Only came here to deal with a physical store and same day returns on defective products. Don't bother coming here! Save yourself the time and money and buy it off Amazon where you can at least return a broken brand new motherboard. read more

This is probably the only remaining big box store in the region where one can purchase a full set of computer components to build a computer. Afterall, CompUSA has gone out of business, Best Buy focuses on entertainment electronics such as TV, and Staples is office supply. The prices here were competitive and the salesperson that we met yesterday was professional (pays attention but not pushy). The only issue I have with this particular place is the parking. With an adjacent Trader Joe's, Starbucks, and other stores, this shopping center's parking area seems inadequate to handle the loads of customers. read more

As other folks have said this is a pretty good bet if you need computer parts in a hurry and you just can't wait for Prime. The downside is the location is extremely hard to get to, the service is very poor and the parking is often hard to find. Particularly if the university folks are in session. If there is an alternative or you can wait a day or two then you may want to reconsider that trip down always-screwed-up Memorial drive. They do have good prices on memory though. Their store brand USB sticks and SDs are quite a bargain. read more

I was having trouble with my desktop and went to Micro Center. Described my problem which was that email was painstakingly slow! I was encouraged to purchase a rebuild package for 799.00. Picked it up, same problem ... super slow email!!! The sales associate paid no attention to my problem which turned out to be too many emails, like 6,000 plus. I am no expert, that is why I went to Micro Center. They are certainly not experts either as they transferred everything from my old computer to the new one. Never advised me (despite needing all my passwords to transfer everything) that my old problem would still remain. Afterwards, they requested my feedback and that was ignored, of course! read more

This is about ordering for delivery from Microcenter. The store is awesome as are the staff. Ordering for delivery, leaves something to be desired. The site says that products will take 1-3 days to ship, which is fine. It's clearly stated. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to find out the actual order status. The system I ordered was listed as shipped, which might mean it's actually been shipped, but it can also mean processing. In almost every case, when I order things online from other companies, when something is reported as shipped, I'll get an email with tracking information. Sometimes the tracking info will only say that the shipping label has been created, but it's still status. The only conclusion I can draw is that it probably isn't a good idea to order a system for delivery from them. To be clear, though. I recommend the store without reservation. read more

This place is not for everyone. If everyone was like me I would give MicroCenter five stars, but I know for sure that most "normal" people will find this place to be overwhelming. This is not your average store, it does not market to you when you walk in, it will not guide you to buy things that you do/don't need. All of that being said if you need computer components and don't have time to wait for tiger direct or newegg to ship it to you than this is the place for you. The selection is awesome, the sales guys are actually smart, this is not your best buy geek squad guy who doesn't have a clue (I will be writing a review on them soon). One cool thing that I would like to note is that if you purchase something that has a rebate they have a printing station next to the registers and you can get your rebates right there. Short and skinny: If you feel knowledgeable about what it is you want, and don't mind a crowded place, MicroCenter will not let you down. read more

If you love technology, this place is for you. They have a great selection of computers, digital cameras, accessories, and even sell ipods! I just wish it were closer to a T stop! The staff are pretty helpful as well. read more

Pretty polarized reviews for Micro Center, it looks like. That makes sense: My impression of the place is that if you know what you're looking for and are a giant nerd, it's a great place to go. They have enthusiast-oriented components, usually have a few pretty hot deals on monitors or printers or that sort of thing, and carry things like network cable or USB cables and sell them for some reasonable markup as compared to Best Buy or similar. Then again, if you don't know what you're doing, I'd stay away. The salespeople will straight up lie to you about stuff -- my friends and I have even played a "see who can get lied to the most" game. They're usually not fully egregious lies and are usually easily exposed as futile attempts to upsell, but I can only imagine how many people have been ensnared by that sort of foolishness. I wish there were a better place around, but there really isn't. If you can't wait to buy stuff online, it's a good option. If you don't know what you want/need, though, I'd head elsewhere or at least be sure to bring your nerdy friend(s) along with you. read more

This is the only store I go to if I can't wait to get some computer thing over the internet. Prices, as others have noted, are at least as good as and usually better than Best Buy or whatever, and other places' selections just don't compare. Think an enormous Radio Shack with much better prices. Some of the uniquely good deals I find here are bulk items (CDs, cases, etc.) not usually found at such volumes in stores, and the large section of opened/returned/still-guaranteed itmes at reduced price. (Once saw the very cable I had returned -- was tempted to buy it again at a lower price just because, but I didn't need it.) The customer service, though, frankly sucks. Employees only hover around big-ticket items, which they're eager to move. If you have a question about some random plug or something, good luck tracking someone down. I smell commissions. However, the price and selection and immediate availability of so much keeps me from knocking them down yet another star for it. What can I say? The bottom line is good. read more

I'm pretty surprised by all the negative reviews - because I had a great experience here...but then I did know what I was looking for (and am probably a giant geek :) I went in looking for a new cord for my G4 mac (as mac users know, their cords are awful and after only 3 years, the thing would barely charge. Ok, I am a geek). After seeing the $79 price tag for one electrical cord, I almost fainted. But a lovely employee saw me breathing into a paper bag about to hyperventilate and calmly talked me through some other options. He found me another cord, an adapter (NOT apple) - that would work just as well as the mac cord and was only $29. They didn't have it in the store, so he went online, determined it was only available online - printed out the info for me, and instructed me on the best shipping method. I was in and out in 15 minutes and I got my new cord in about 3 biz days. I got nothin' but love for Micro Center! read more

Geek Mecca. SImply put Microcenter makes a basic assumption, You're a geek. Everything else stems from that assumption. As a geek you know exactly what you want, how it works and what it should cost. You realize what's a good deal, what's a bad deal, and yes you really do know how to build your own cables from the otherwise confusing spools of cables and ends arrayed around the place. If you can't tell a USB cable from a Firewire cable then you're probably going to hate this place. It's like Costco for technarati. Anywhere you have hard drives piled up in bins like produce at the local stop and shop, you know you aren't dealing with a 'consumer friendly' place. You aren't going to find any MAC Geniuses or Blue shirted sales folks with a fiendly smile. You can find help here, but really you either need to know in advance exactly what you're after or bring along a pocket protector pal who does know what you need (and how to install, work, setup, or build it). If you know what you're looking for you can save hundreds, even over internet sites, on some items. Geeks hear angels sing on high when they enter. The average joe hears a little voice inside screaming in horror. It's that kind of place. read more

For someone who doesn't like computers, this place is basically my worst nightmare come true. However, they do have great prices and more selection than you could find in any store I've visited. My husband sent me on a mission to pick up a few select items on a Sunday for his business. He's skilled with technology and gave me a detailed list. As soon as I entered the store, there were dozens of willing salespeople to help me out. Even though I had no idea what I was purchasing, they went through my checklist with me to make sure I had everything I needed. I was very appreciative for the help, and my husband was pleased with the deliveries. As we live 30+ minutes away, it was kind of an all day affair, especially on a Sunday (GOOD LUCK finding a parking spot, with the Trader Joe's weekend warriors out and doing their Sunday Shop!) Hope I don't have to come back here any time soon, but if I do, I know that someone will be able to assist me in locating what I need. read more

Ok, I would give Microcenter 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that it takes like, 12 hours to get out of the damn place. Seriously, I think I've lost days of my life waiting on line at either Microcenter or Home Depot. Sure, they've got quality merchandise at good prices, but it would be nice they had more than 1 cashier per 1000 customers. I also had a bad experience trying to buy a laptop there. I did my research, knew what I wanted, but the display model was broken and taken off the floor. I asked a sales person for some help to see if there was any way I could see a comparable model or even one that was broken just to get a feel for the keyboard. Instead of making any effort to help me buy what I wanted, he tried to sell me an older model on closeout with a smaller screen and different OS (Micro$oft ME no less. WTF! Why not just sell me a brick for $1k and be done with it). They have updated their gaming section a ton, which is great for videogame dorks like myself. They have a good book selection, which used to be better until the expansion of the videogame selection, which makes my electrical engineering husband kind of bummed out. Their camera selection is good as well, and they have decently priced memory cards. I've found their customer service in this department to outshine that of pretty much every other one, though their prices aren't as competitive as one can find online. But it's a great place to get to fiddle with a new camera before deciding to purchase. They also have some insanely cheap DVDs that no self respecting retailer would sell, like 50 Horror Classics for $10. I bought that because my ex boss's wife was in one of the movies, which I think is pretty neat. I mean, really, it's one of the only computer stores around here unless you want to buy your computer at Best Buy or CompUsa...but I've found their customer service to be even more lackluster and I kinda hate the GeekSquad. read more

Being into tech stuff (and a borderline geek), Microcenter should be a place that I spend hours in day after day and week after week, but something seems to be a bit off about this place. Perhaps it's the help (they aren't always that helpful) or the prices (not always good) or the sometimes rude crowds there, but I guess I can overlook all this for the most part, as they have so much stuff that I want. Flaws aside, to me, Microcenter is a guy's version of DSW. read more

I took my computer here for repairs. I have a ~4 year-old Dell laptop. Yonas and his team took incredible care of my computer. I told them I relied on the computer for working remotely and as a student. They were able to fix it in a short amount of time and kept costs low. The computer has been working as well as the day I bought it. I can't say enough good things about these guys. Yonas and the tech who worked on my computer, Vilson, also provided tremendous customer service throughout the whole process. They kept me up to date with phone calls about the repairs they were doing, what the computer needed, and price before going through with the repairs. Both the quality of their work and their customer service were outstanding. I would not go anywhere else for computer/tech needs. read more

Great experience and customer support. There is all the tech you want. The prices are great and they were really helpful in building my first ever gaming pc. Microcenter is my defacto stop for computer parts, cabling, and accessories. It's a little bit disorganized to recommend for large purchases, with computers and monitors on display, but looking like they all got unboxed in a hurry for the shelves. The employees are helpful thanks to a commission system (that's why they keep sticking little white labels on the items you are carrying when you talk to them!), but sometimes a bit mis-guided. This is a store best-suited to those who know what they are looking for. It'll take a few trips to get used to the store layout. While you're there, be sure to venture into the back book-section for great deals on random technical books on the discount shelf. read more

No major gripes here. Knowing what you want helps though. They advertise things like SD and USB memory at below the floor prices but then make them very difficult to find, and the sales staff isn't always that helpful guiding you around. (-1 star) Also, the store's layout is a lot more like a warehouse than an electronics store. Their laptops and TV's are set up well and the Apple section is standard Apple, but other than that, this place is a ridiculous maze. The video game section feels extremely cheap and computer hardware appears almost thrown into random places. (minus another star) All-in-all, MicroCenter is fine for your average purchases, and they tend to have pretty competitive prices as well. However, I'd just as soon go to Best Buy for just about anything they offer. read more

Very disappointing visit to store to fix hardware purchased only 8 months ago. First, they did not tell me on the phone that I would have to mail it in to manufacturer and they could not service it in the store because product was still under manufacturer's warranty. Then they just checked that it had a charge, which was already apparent. In other words, they plugged it in. Not exactly helpful. Note that I had told them that I had attempted to download pictures from a phone. When I returned home and called the phone number they gave me to get a box and mailing label, I told the technician about the phone download attempt and he suggested that I hold the power plug for 15 seconds. It worked. Seems like the service people in the store could have tried that and sent home a satisfied customer instead of a very annoyed one. read more

I was nervous taking my computer to Microcenter, as it sounds like once it gets in the hands of the techs, you never know when you're going to see it again. My experience turned out to be great. I spilled had spilled a cocktail on my beloved lenovo laptop and had to get the keyboard replaced. I contacted two other places to see about fixing it and was turned away because Lenovo parts are notoriously impossible to get. MC is designated repair site for Lenovo computers, so I thought they would have to be able to get parts. I dropped it off on a Weds. evening and was told 8-10 business days. Two whole weeks without my Yoga, in addition to the 10 days of nonuse since I messed it up! The humanity! Well, Saturday morning MC called to tell me the part was in and give me a price. With labor the whole deal was $160, about what I was expecting. They said OK, pick it up on Monday! I couldn't believe it. That means it took them only 3 business days! I was impressed. Picked it up, thanked the techs, and brought my non-vodka soaked laptop home. I haven't had any problems since. read more

Normally I would not rate a place of business that I have a problem with, but in this case I will. What I would normally do is just never go back to the store again so as to spend my money at a better store. This time I feel that I need to sound off. I went into to pick up a few items and went to pay only to find that 15 people were already in line ahead of me. This usually would not be a problem except for the fact that there was only one cashier. I spent the next 35 minutes waiting to be checked out. I normally love coming to Micro Center but this was beyond belief this time. In my opinion this was a Managment issue not recognizing the customers all backed up and doing nothing to ease everyone out the door. You've been better and I believe you can do better. read more

I made an effort to support one of the few remaining brick and mortar stores of the type, driving 2 hours round trip, burning gas, and paying tolls. Their website said they had everything I wanted for my PC build in stock, but a couple items were listed as in-store only and I could not order them for store pickup. That should have been a warning sign. I show up and a staff member asks if I need help finding anything, then proceeds to tell me that they don't have one of the items, and almost acts annoyed that I would ask. I guess I was supposed to know that they were out of something that the website still said they have 5 of in stock (I checked in the parking lot). I could have bought the rest of the parts I wanted there, but I just walked out. They don't deserve the business. read more
