5-STAR CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR YONAS AND THE REST OF HIS COMPUTER REPAIRS TEAM!! Yonas and his team at the Cambridge Microcenter went ABOVE AND BEYOND to repair my Macbook Air. I had initially brought my laptop in for a keyboard repair. This was promptly fixed within ONE DAY (fast service!), but my my computer would no longer charge. I brought it in again, and Yonas (the manager) personally assured me that he would take care of it. He kept in excellent communication with me throughout, and because I'm a poor grad student (hello Cambridge!) didn't charge me for the subsequent repair. I am truly astounded at the personal service and commitment to doing right by the customer. I will absolutely be bringing all my future repairs here to Microcenter and will recommend it to all of my friends! read more

This is my 1st yelp review, but I feel compelled based on the level of customer service I received from Micro Center. Long story short, I waited 2 weeks for an appointment with Geek Squad/Best Buy in Dedham. The "geek" seemed like he didn't want to be there, didn't let me finish, didn't open my computer to try and diagnose the problem & just told me I needed a new computer. Exact words. Horrible customer service & I left there angry. I decided to try Micro Center that same day. Rather than have me schedule an appointment weeks in advance (this was in June during COVID), their website said I could walk in that day. I walked in there and was actually greeted by employees. The whole environment was welcoming. They showed me to the Help Center. Within minutes, the associate was looking at my computer. If he had told me that I needed a new computer, it would have been totally fine, because he actually took the time to listen to me & diagnose the problem. But fortunately, he told me what I needed, which was simply a new power supply, which they had in stock. One of the sales associates then showed me where it was, and actually took it out of the box, so we could test it out before I left. He was super friendly and helpful. And then the cashier was just as cool. They made me feel like they appreciated my business, and wasn't just another "customer". Thus, I felt the need to write this review & support genuine businesses like this. And will continue to do so. Thank you! read more

I was referred to them from Apple as I had an older laptop needing repair (2012 MacBook Air) and they usually only repair new machines. Over the phone they were friendly and said come on in and it might be a super easy fix for my one bad key. I show up and am told they can't replace just one key (that is factually wrong) and that it will cost $40 to be told how much a full new keyboard will cost (we have to look up the part number). I asked the guy if he was sure, as I knew individual keys could be replaced. He said yes. I left, called Apple to complain, and what do you know they replaced the one broken in less than five minutes. For free. Microcenter should either train their employees better or stop being greedy with repairs. read more

I bought a brand new computer 6 months ago. One of the USB ports in front stopped working.they were unable to repair it, a 6 month old computer can't be repaired, unbelievable. They had my computer for 20 days .I had to take a part with 6 USB ports to get back the one USB port I needed. Jonas the manager was no help at all.i will never buy From This store again. read more

Service used to be good. Last six months it's gone way way down. New people don't know how to provide service to their customers, or should I say don't want to. Brought two computers that were purchased at micro center there for service, they said they couldn't fix them. Brought them to another service center and they fixed them immediately. While waiting for service I witnessed tech do exactly the same thing to other customers. This is a long-standing customer who spends mega money there now looking for alternative. The problems with my two machines were repaired by a different company within two days of bringing them in. These are the machines micro center said were unrepairable! read more

The reply from the business owner is insulting: it throws the manager under the bus for company policy and does nothing to respond to the actual criticism at hand (the refusal to replace a defective item, even though it was in stock at another Micro Center location). The issue is not the manager (although the manager did nothing to try and find a workaround), but Micro Center company policy. After the negative in-store experience, I utilized the online customer support feature to contact corporate; they were very firm that this is a company policy and they will not compromise it. So, to reiterate, unless you need something THAT DAY, there is no reason to use this store. read more

Your product is good, b The prices are awesome, but associates who were working on cashier position is bad about serving customers. They have a bad attitude with their customers. associates who introduced about products for customers, they are so nice, I have nothing to complain. I just have a problem with the associates who were working on the cashier position. Please! Tell them to be nice with their customers because I came to Micro Center two times, and I always receive their bad attitude. Not sure why the average review here is only three stars. Micro Center consistently beats Best Buy and most online vendors in terms of selection, pricing, and return policies. The customer service is also helpful. The return policy at Micro Center is the best I've ever seen, with plenty of time to decide if you like your purchase and staff who aren't pushy when you make your return. This Cambridge store in particular has excellent staff. I consistently come back and have not had any bad experiences at all. read more

Great store but horrible phone service. They have allot of stuff at the store. But it's very hard to get them on the phone. And they have one of the most annoying automotive phone machines I've ever heard in my life. When you're waiting for someone to pick up the phone (which they take a long time to do), you are borderline harassed by the automated machine to hang up the phone and go online to their website and look for what you want there. Literally every 5 seconds while your waiting on the phone, the machine pops back in and tells you to basically hang up and look online for what your looking for. It's pretty obvious that it was made with the intention of getting people to say "f- it", and hang up the phone. Which isn't good customer service. Regardless of your website, if I want to call and ask a question, I should not be hounded to hang up and use the website. read more

This is strictly a review on customer service. I went there to buy some Bawls Energy Drink because it's the only place in the immediate Boston area (they used to carry it at 7-Eleven). The price for a 10 oz glass bottle and a 16 oz can are the same, along with a discount if you buy 4 cans. The flavors they had mentioned (Orange/Zero/Original/Cherry/Root Beer) were all there. After I bought my stuff, the guy who rang up my purchase didn't offer to help bag it. It felt kinda irregular, and I almost dropped my cans. read more

MicroCenter to the rescue! (twice) My laptop died and I needed a new one. After living in Boston for 20 years, I've learned: Just go to MicroCenter and buy one. The prices can't be beat (even online) and the service help is very knowledgeable. (Bien-Ami was the kind salesclerk who helped me find the right laptop for my needs.) I also love that they are open late and you can just walk away with what you need. Then a week later, I realized the critical files I needed were not on the cloud, but stuck on my dead laptop! I returned to MicroCenter and visited the service department. Three members of the service team supported me with kindness through the ups and downs of determining if that laptop was truly dead-- it was :( -- if the hard drive was salvageable-- it was :)-- and if the key files I needed could be located-- they weren't :( ... at first. That's when expert technician-- Wayland-- stepped up to the plate and did some sleuthing to discover that my files were indeed there (hidden, but accessible). He retrieved them and I was overwhelmed to tears with gratitude! Thank you, Wayland, and thank you, MicroCenter! read more

Awful. My brother went and spent 2 grand on a new PC. One of the two monitors he bought was broken and never worked so he went to return it. When we went to return it, we had the receipt, but they said that we bought the monitor 1 year ago and couldn't return it and that we were trying to commit return fraud (we literally bought it 1 week before). Horrible horrible horrible customer service. I would give Micro Center negative 5 stars if I could. The store admitted that its sales rep messed up my purchase by giving me the wrong software. Then customer service gave me shitty advice (that it's ok to install software designed for PC on a Mac). And I had to follow up by phone/text 3 times to get to a manager, who asked me to spend an hour in traffic in order to return the item to the store. I brought my PC to the repair shop here and I was either scammed or their techs just aren't good. I have a decent knowledge building computers but I wanted a second opinion in case I was wrong. I thought I needed a new motherboard but these guys told me I needed a PSU, CPU fan and a new case...... I needed the case because apparently my board was shorting out on it... not true. I trusted them and bought these parts for around $500 in store which wasn't too bad on price. I installed everything and had the same issue. I decided to cut ties with the store as their support told me to bring the PC back and wait 2 more days. I replaced the motherboard and have had no issues since. Make your own decision but I had an awful experience with the repair shop that caused me to spend $500 more than I needed to. read more

I can't even begin to express the frustration I fell with Microcenter's repair department. I have never experienced such incompetence from any repair service in my life. I brought my HP laptop in August 4th to be repaired as the right click button was not working. They gave me an estimate which I agreed to. I was promised by the technician that the repair would take no more than two weeks. Fast forward to the end of August and the laptop is still in repair status. Speak to the supervisor who promises to expedite the repair and it is magically all set the next day. Pick the laptop up and it is not fixed, right click button works on every third click. Take it back they promise to fix it again. Check the repair status every day and it says "running diagnostics". Called today October 1st and guess what? Its ready! I pick up my laptop and surprise surprise it is still not working! Microcenter has got to the most incompetent repair facility I have ever used in any industry. Avoid like the plague read more

I pretty much reviewed Microcenter on my blog tonight. Thought I'd share. It's not often you get to witness the total evisceration of another human being while waiting in line for a merchandise exchange. But today, it happened. At Microcenter. I have a real love-hate relationship with this particular retailer. The array of computer products makes me positively giddy, but, each time I go, the staff sets new standards for complete ineptitude. I once bought a scanner from a man who could barely speak English, and this other time the salesman talked my boyfriend into buying a 15 case for a 13 laptop. Waiting in line takes about as long as getting a cavity filled, and yes, you can bet, it's just as painful. If you need somebody to help you there's nobody around, but if you're set on your own they swarm to you like flies, and (I swear!) they will only let women ring register. I've never seen a girl on their salesfloor. Walking in there is like playing roulette with close-range paintballs. You've gotta brace yourself for the worst. Given all this, it gave me a sick kind of pleasure today to listen as this bespectacled middle-aged woman gave the manager hell. She was also unhappy with the level of customer service we were being provided, but, unlike me, she wasn't about to take it lying down. "What is your MANAGEMENT STRATEGY to deal with this?" She howled, referring to the extra-long queue at the drop-off counter. "Why don't you just HIRE MORE PEOPLE?" "Ma'am, we're trying to do your best for people, we have strict tests-" "Don't give me EXCUSES!" She shrieked. Her voice quavered, as though she were on the edge of hysteria. "- we have strict tests to ensure that our associates are qualified. We get over a hundred applications a week, but people can't pass the tests!" Tests? TESTS? They TEST these people? Like, the one guy couldn't even do basic MATH - there is NO WAY a 13 MacBook Pro is going to fit in a 15 case - and, while listening to the argument, I watched another salesclerk count $1,200 (in twenties) at least seven times. I mean, fuck, they don't even answer the PHONE half the time when you call! What kind of tests could they possibly be GIVING, and who are these "unqualified applicants"? AMOEBAS?? I mean, seriously! Eventually, the manager turned tail and fled, and, eventually, I made it to the counter to exchange my laptop sleeve for a spindle of CD-Rs. "Maybe you should apply for a job at Microcenter," I suggested to B! on the way out the door. He said he didn't know. I mean, we hear they have this really hard test. read more

This review is for the service department, the absolute WORST EVER. If you buy a computer with a service plan, expect to get bottom teir service from these incapable clods. Microcenter in Cambridge has THE worst service department EVER. We bought a Mac laptop about 2 years ago, and a high priced service plan - which they deceptively sold us Microcenter's plan - NOT applecare. The computer we bought has a "known defective" graphics card. We bought is specifically to run heavy graphic and audio programs. Nice for them to share that info post-repair. We've had the card replaced twice. The solution - "I slapped some more thermal grease on the chip." WOW, there's some tech expertise right there - can we talk redneck computer hacks? Each time our "priority service" took two weeks. Oh, the tech has a emergency the first time - this time - he want on vacation. and a place that big has ONE MAC TECH. HUH? No email, save for the one post return "We hope you were happy with your recent service experience " FU Microcenter. Shitty, Terrible Customer Service by tech geeks who think is it still it's 1980. They are nothing but board swappers and could not diagnose circuit level issues to save their lives. read more

I don't know how any company can sustain a successful business today if they don't stand by their products. Not a large purchase but I bought a wireless mouse, took it home and switched the USB and the receiver broke apart in my hand - held together by glue. I take it back to MicroCenter within days and the supervisor proceeds to tell me "we don't accept broken merchandise returns once they've left the store". Excuse me?! So unless I test the equipment first, inside the store and before I buy it, MicroCenter won't take a return? That's just ridiculous. It's defective merchandise that should go back to the manufacturer, not my problem. Luckily, the manager agreed with me and accepted the return. I've shopped here quite frequently but will think twice before I do so in the future. read more

I'm fairly computer savvy so I've never had much of an issue in finding what I needed here, in fact more often then not I've had issues getting the sales people to just leave me alone to find what I already know I need. You see in many ways I am still a luddite, I do all my research online and then hop in my fossil fuel burning car to head to the brick and mortar store to buy my shiny goodies with old fashioned green money. I know what I want please leave me be now thank you. Had to buy multiple UPS backups for my office and tried to do the online prepay system. Wait, whats this? I have to have photo ID and the credit card ANDDD the email confirming this order? Weird, I both A). voted easier and B). bought a brand new laptop from the Apple store with less identification than this. Here is where I pickup the handset on my landline (a phone attached to a desk for you kids) and ring up the store. I explain that I will be prepaying for this order on a corporate card. I note that I have no access to said corporate card and in fact another person is the billing contact. Guy says that its not a problem, just so long as I have my photo ID and the email, that they're getting there on a designated pickup system so it will be not an issue. Great, I head out in the snow, yes snow, to get these stupid things. Go to place the order online and, now what?!? Oh, I have to create an account just to order, well thats frustrating but no bother, its my work email, spam away! Grumble, I can't have a different billing contact? Well, hmm, lets make another phone call. Same story, ID and email no worries. For those keeping score at home, thats two different people who gave me the same story, can you see the foreshadowing already? Flash forward to an hour later, I arrive in store all excited to just get these stupid things and go home. New person who then grabs another new person, peering in I see her nametag is the head of customer service. Well lovely, she'll take great care of me and I'll be on my way back to the snowy wasteland that was Memorial Dr. Wrong. I am then accused of committing credit card fraud because I do not have the card. I explain my story, to no avail. She then asks for my ID, saying she's going to call my boss and see if in fact I am allowed to be getting these. I'm sorry what? Why don't you just call my mommy and see if I'm even allowed to go outside after dark. Before I can explain that you won't reach the boss because she isn't in the office (which sidenote, if she was in the office don't you think I'd have just grabbed the card then? Right). Not so helpful 10 minutes later she comes back saying the obvious, that shes failed to reach my boss. But hey I can put this on another card if I want. I do not in fact want to put 300$ worth and 100# of battery backups on my credit card so I decline. She mutters something of credit card fraud and I leave angry with her accusations. Honestly, if I'm going to defraud Microcenter of something, it won't be 5 APC battery backup units when they sell computers/tvs/gaming consoles etc. In summary, Microcenter really used to be great, back in the early 2000's or even, gasp, the 90s. I'd say that they past 5 or 6 times I've been there I've left frustrated and without the product I needed, or I'd be home and then heading right back out to return a faulty product. Go someplace, ANYPLACE, else if you can help it. read more

Great for a post- or pre-Trader Joes game on the Wii. I've been in here several times now and love the range of nerdy things I can buy but somehow I never buy any. Instead the lovely staff hand me the Wiimote and I head over and waste at least 30 mins a time in front of the Nintendo. Nothing better than swinging around manically in the middle of the store hoping to get my character to the next level I'm hoping I'll waste so much of the staff's time there that they'll give me a Wii to get rid of me. Arriving at the store, there was a grand selection of electronic items, smiling friendly faces, and someone who was able to help me. However, I quickly realized that whoever I spoke to on the phone confirming they had the item I needed with the price and repair service fee was not accurate - and under quoted. The person who helped me find the right item was kind but gave me the wrong item and it cost twice what I was quoted on the phone. I checked in with the service team and the repair fee was twice what I was quoted on the phone as well doubled in work required to be performed that they do at Apple. I bid adieu to the people I worked with and left feeling disappointed and took my business elsewhere (where I enjoyed the experience). Backstory: I needed a battery replacement for my MacBook and was recommended to go to this place for its selection, price, and quality. I called ahead to inquire about the precise make/model I needed, confirmed the price, and the repair service fee. The person I spoke on the phone with was clear and confirmed faith in me that this was the best choice for my needs and budget. read more

My Mac Book Pro crashed and after calling Apple Care, I was unfortunately told that would need to be taken in. The only place that had availability was Micro Center. As most of us would say, my entire life was on there, more specifically work. They were all extremely professional and conscientious. Though they conveyed they would try to resolve this as soon as possible I was beginning how to mitigate the doom that was to await me in the next few days. Instead, while driving home I get a call from Micro Center, WE WERE ABLE TO FIX YOUR LAPTOP. I suddenly thought Santa Claus came early to Cambridge! Open letter to the cashier who rang me up just minutes ago: Hey buddy I know that working at Micro Center isn't exactly glorious and you probably want out of retail (and I wouldn't blame you) but please know that I do not need your attitude about my Yankees hat, especially after I've been waiting in line, to pay, for over 20 minutes to pay for my overpriced $5 pack of batteries that I needed urgently. How about you stop trying to give me a speech about the NYY hat I'm wearing, how the Yankees suck and instead grab the credit card that I've been extending towards you for the past 2 minutes while trying to ignore your not-so-original comments. You know... focus on getting me out of your crappy store and out that door so other people can actually pay for their items? And also please don't tap on your co-workers shoulder and try to tag-mock me about how you both think that I should buy a Red Sox hat. Like that would ever happen. I hope you do realize that a fraction of my purchase pays for your hourly comision-based salary and after all I am a customer. Had I not been in a hurry I probably would have talked to a manager to get you in trouble for making me wait this long for this sale but I actually feel sorry for you. Honestly. And guess what? Even if I desperately needed batteries and you were the last store opened in Massachusetts you have convinced me that I'd drive out of state to get anything I need than go to your store. And the drive out of state and back would probably still be quicker than your checkout line. I can take this place or leave it. For purchasing things like video games and smaller electronics, it's fine. I go in, find what I need, I get out. For bigger things, like my macbook, they try so hard to oversell a bunch of crap no one needs, because the employees obviously work on commission, which sucks all around. Sucks for them if you're an informed customer (like me) who goes in and knows exactly what they need and can't be bothered. Sucks for the customer because who likes being pressured into paying for stuff you don't need or won't ever use? Plus, I find that if you do go in there with not much of a clue of what you need, the people working there usually can't help anyway. They're just there to make you spend as much of your hard-earned money as possible, and who wants that? read more

Unfortunately, I went to Micro Center to buy a camera as a birthday gift for my niece who is just taking up photography. So I chose the camera, buy it, wrap it up and gave it to her on her birthday. She's thrilled with it, opens the box in front of everyone and wants to immediately take pictures. It's a cute little pink Nikon - just what she wanted. So she presses the button and nothing happens. The lense freezes in place and on the little screen there is an error message. Embarrassing. So we all gather around to look at this piece of sh*t camera from Microcenter and notice it won't turn off or on. Nothing works. I die. I take the camera back from her, apologize and bring it to the local techie in a big box store who confirms for me that the camera is defective. A few days later, I bring it back to Microcenter and tell the useless "returns" guy about the situation and that I want my money back as the camera they sold me is defective. He looks bored. He says that the item is being returned too late for a store refund. I tell him the item was a gift and that is is defective. He gave me the same dull story about returns being allowed only by a specific date and said that my issue wasn't with Microcenter, it was now with the manufacturer and that I need to contact them to discuss it. I got a store credit from Microcenter. Will I ever shop there again after using the store credit? Oh hell now. Heed my advice - go to any other store and get 100% better service. Microcenter sucks the big one. read more

In fact, he presented the same image / lack of service I saw at the store. As we are looking into the specifics of this and what happened on those days, could you please let me know the specific brand/model that you were interested in? Thank You. Me: It was a 46" flat screen - a Toshiba I believe. It was on sale for $599 until 11/13/2011. It was in the rear of the flat screen displays, right near the sales rep station. Arsen A., Manager: Thank you for a quick response. I do have one more question, however. I just checked on this TV and it shows that we were sold out of this item by the end of day on Saturday 11/05/2011. I just wanted to check on the timeline that you mentioned in the review. Did the site show these TVs available in Cambridge location as of Monday? And did you call the local store or the 800 number to confirm availability? Once again, thank you for helping us figure this out. We always make effort to have ample supply of items that are on sale but are not always able to predict specific demand on the product.The on-line inventory on Monday should have been showing none available as they were all sold out by Satruday night and that is perplexing, so your help is greatly appreciated. Me: We did call on Monday. I'm not sure if they looked up the wrong model or what happened, but someone confirmed at that time that you had stock of the item. We wouldn't have reserved the car otherwise. We called the local store to confirm. Additionally, the website showed an availability of five according to my friend (he checked that - I'm the one who made the phone call). And honestly, I would have been fine with your store being out of stock - I just wish I'd been informed about it before I made such extensive arrangements. Even barring that, I understand mistakes happen and people get busy at retail stores and sometimes can give mistaken information. What made me the angriest was the actual in-store interactions both times I was there. On Tuesday night, when the sales person said they were out of stock, I tried my best to secure one at that same price, whether through ordering one at that price at that moment and paying or receiving a rain check. He wouldn't do either, and only tried to sell me more expensive models. He wasn't listening to us, refused to work with us, and created a very uncomfortable shopping experience - almost worse than the near-hour we spent trying to flag down anyone to help us on Friday (when we were ALSO prepared to purchase it, even if it meant calling someone to help us transport it). ************************************************************************************** He did thank me several times for providing feedback, so I will grant him that. While I appreciate he wants to prevent this from happening in the future, I still feel like he didn't see what was wrong in the first place. Also note I never received so much as an apology from him for the experience, either. This interaction took place over two weeks ago, and I have yet to hear back from them after my last reply. Been a long time customer of the Micro Center here in Cambridge as well as the MC in my home state of Minnesota. I loved the Minnesota MC due to their knowledgeable-yet-not-condescending staff, low pressure sales approach and low prices. Having worked in software development for years, and in IT for years before that (my 1st IT boss actually wound up running the MN Micro Center store for a while), I know how rare it is to find all of that in one place. The one thing I disliked about the MN store -- painfully slow in-store pickup -- is one of many problems plaguing the MA store in Cambridge. The Cambridge store, while also having low prices, sadly seems to have none of the customer service qualities present in the Minneapolis store. * Do not call. Don't even try. You will get an automated message. It will hang up on you. You will not get to speak to a person. If you call the service desk, you will get the chance to leave a message. That is unless the mailbox is full. The mailbox is always full. * Expect high pressure, condescending sales. I went in last week to buy a CPU and mobo, possibly adding some other parts for an ITX, steambox-like build. I've built roughly a hundred PCs in my life, both as an enthusiast and as a professional. Even then, I admit my domain knowledge on what's the best case, mobo and PSU combination is not encyclopedic. Normally, I rely on the expertise and pragmatic advice from the people in Micro Center's parts area to fill in the gaps. This proved a mistake on my last visit. The rep I worked with seemed more interested in putting stickers on boxes (for whatever commission/bonus they get) and pushing higher priced options, than with getting me reasonable parts for a build which should obviously not be geared towards overclocking. I purchased a Lenovo laptop from this Micro Center about a year ago, and that was a good experience. The sales reps were readily answering any questions and helped me pick a laptop that suited my needs. Now the negative: about a month ago the laptop stopped charging, but I knew the add-on warranty I had purchased was still valid so I bought it here expecting them to readily help me fix it. The guy who came out, who I think was Yonas? not too sure, but he just came out, turned on my laptop, checked the charger and then stated that this computer is a goner and said "Lenovo would never fix this", even with the warranty, and I was better off waiting til it fully died and then just buy a new laptop. I was just there stunned, he didn't even check the conditions of my warranty or if it was even valid. He saw that I was pretty sad, I even said I study statistics and I really needed a laptop for my work. He was indifferent and in a jolly tone said that there was no hope for this laptop, and then happily went to the back. I then called Lenovo, and they directed me to the Bestbuy in Cambridge and there it was fixed within 2 weeks all of no charge because it was under warranty, as I knew it was. Overall, displeased with the service at this Micro Center, especially considering I purchased the laptop, case, warranty, etc. here and they provided no option where this could be fixed, when obviously that was not the case. Better off going to Bestbuy if you want things fixed under a Lenovo warranty. read more
