I had heard many good things about Micha's and finally tried them a week ago. The food was good. The salsa had a good flavor and some kick to it. I had a carne seca chimi. Portion was great and the carne seca had a unique (good) flavor. My daughter had flat enchiladas and she spoke well of the food. So, why is Micha's earning two stars. Frankly, the service. The restaurant was busy and the dining room filled. We were seated, along with other guests, in the older diner portion of the restaurant away from the ambiance of the dining room. Our waitress came over and took our drink orders and then our food orders. No greeting or smile. We noticed the lack of social communication and my daughter noted that she had not seen any of the staff smile. As our dinner progressed we needed drink refills. It was some time before anyone got back to us in the back 40. Our salsa bowl sat on the edge of the table. I went to the host at the counter and asked for someone to come over and fill the salsa. No one came. At the end of our meal a server came by and filled the salsa. I will not criticize the food at Micha's, as it was good. But service is an important component to dining out and for whatever reason it was not there that night at Micha's. read more

Okay place for an affordable and rather quick lunch. Drinks are moderately priced and not refillable (only water). As usual, I get the cocido that is pretty good and not at all greasy. I don't like that they add red pepper to it as I feel the that flavor over powers everything else in the soup. I really like their flour tortillas as they taste freshly made and are a perfect size (about 12" or so). The service could use improvement. The waitstaff aren't the most friendliest and almost look like they would much rather not ve there. Great Mexican food on the South Side. AMBIENCE: 4 stars. Very comfy family restaurant. You definitely get a sense of how much the owners/staff relish their place in the community. Cool shrine area at the front commemorating people who were important to the restaurant. Very casual and comfortable. SERVICE: 4 stars. We were greeted and seated immediately. Very busy Saturday afternoon, so it took a bit of time to get everything out to the table, but the staff kept our glasses full and the chips and salsa satiated us. FOOD: 4 stars. Great! May challenge Rosa's for a special place in my heart! Their spicy salsa is really good (and I am picky), and their chips are great. The machaca is their specialty, and I went with the machaca burro enchilada style (since this is in Tucson I am not going to bother explaining machaca or enchilda style to you, dear reader). My family was out celebrating my sisters birthday and decided to give Michas a try as our company frequently caters from them and it's generally decent then. The inside is very unassuming, pretty humble and low key with some nice art on the walls. The salsa here is decent and the food solid. I did really like the carne asada, it was actual steak. Too many Mexican places around town use tasteless, odorless brown beef nuggets. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas that was pretty run of the mill flavor wise but kinda lacking in the tequila department, tons of mixer in this one. The enchiladas, beans, and rice were all solid Mexican faire but nothing I'd go out of my way for. My favorite item here was definitely the carne asada. Service started out strong but ended up being the downfall of our entire visit. Upon arriving we were seated pretty quickly and had our drink orders taken right away. Service was quick all the way through ordering and getting our food, at which point flagging down our server was nearly impossible. It took us 15 minutes after asking for the check to actually get it. Once we gave a card to process payment, we ended up waiting another 15+ minutes at which point I got up to check on progress to see the cashier boy texting away on his phone with our card sitting at the counter. When I got his attention he mentioned he needed an ID to be able to run the card. I asked how we would ever have found that out, to which his response was "idk I guess we're busy". They were less than half as busy as when we arrived and service was stellar. For future reference, if you could just acknowledge that the mistake was on your end and not make some lame excuse deflecting responsibility for it, I think I would've walked away feeling a little better about this place. All I've gathered from this is that the staff don't care, which doesn't give me much confidence in this place. The food here is solid, acceptable Mexican food. Portion sizes are large enough to satisfy any appetite but in a city full of amazing Mexican food Michas is just not worth the effort. This wonderfully authentic Mexican cuisine! I enjoyed the chimichangas very much and look forward to sampling more of the menu. I used to love this place. 10 or 15 years ago (did Yelp even exist then?) I would have probably complained that there were not enough stars to award. This is where my work usually gets Mexican food catered in from and its pretty good. Its your standard Mexican fare. But, when I am in the area and am craving Mexican I will usually swing in here for a couple of reasons. One, service has always been good no matter what time of day. Two, the salsa has some kick to it. I usually go with the Carne Seca tacos. You get three, and its pretty darn good. They cover them with a lot of lettuce and some cheese, but that doesn't bother me. I like filling up on lettuce as it makes me feel better for eating a fried tortilla filled with meat.. I have in the past had the tamale, but I say skip that one. Stick with enchilada's or tacos and you should be okay. read more

Family restaurants always reign victorious in my heart. I wanted it to taste like the stuff I have eaten in San Francisco, LA and real Mexico, but it still seemed to cater to the type of guy who pronounces quesadilla as Kay-Suh-Dil-Uh, with mostly bland flavors and outrageously overloaded portions. No problem with the second part, but sometimes you just want to pay less for that kind of thing but you can't here because the prices start in the double digits for most small (really big) entrees. Unfortunately, Arizona is just not a sane place to find the real thing as far as Mexican cuisine. However, this could be a taste that's totally foreign to me as a Californian probably just getting a taste of Baja California as opposed to the tastes that may be more true to the mainland of the country, or the border areas. read more

I literally eat this at least once (or twice) a week: the Chief Sixto Molina's Low-Carb favorite: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Green Onions, Sliced Avocado, and Cheese with your choice of Machaca, Carne Asada or Chicken I always get shredded chicken - and I believe there are green chiles in there as well that give it a nice spicy kick. Note - come earlier than later this place gets pretty busy. Some of the best service I have ever seen - it's like they RACE to refill your drink glass - even if you only have water. BLECH!!!! Seriously Yelpers???? 4 stars? ICK! And pricey crud too! Entrees are $9 and over. TERRIBLE chips. The worst I've ever had in my 53 years. Thick, cold, and taste like cheap bagged chips. Barely mediocre salsa/hot sauce. Nothing special at all. Red chile: Double ICK. Cubed meat wasn't cooked long enough and it was so tough. Not sure how they could even sell it. Red chile had absolutely NO flavor either. No cumin taste, no spices. Bland! St. Mary's and Little Mexico have very good red chile, but I still don't think anything beats Las Margaritas on Grant. They have seriously spicy, flavorful and tender chile! Beans and rice were fine, but that's not really why we go to Mexican food restaurants, right? Ambience totally sucks too. Service was inadequate. Server never came by after dumping off our food to see how things were. Had been to Michas 3 or 4 times over 10 years and they have never been anything special. Unfortunately, Little Mexico was closed, starvation set in and we ended up here. Never, ever again. read more

So I know this place is a local staple in Tucson, but i gotta say this place was sub par...if that. We went around 10am, the place was quiet, the food was fast and the service was not bad... but definitely not great. Overall the dissapointment came from the food. For a group of 3 we paid $44.. no biggie, we ordered huervos rancheros, a 2 taco carne asada plate, and a chorizo breakfast plate.... 3 coffees. The food was hot but had NO FLAVOR AT ALL. The potatoes tasted like packaged/frozen-no seasoning, and looked half cooked, the beans were watery and flavorless, the green chili looked awesome...again tasted just thawed out and flavorless... the eggs were cooked perfect..but at that point it really didnt matter I lost my appetite. The corn tortillas on my tacos we're thick and warmed by microwave... with the exception of the eggs EVERYTHING tasted pre-packaged, precooked... nothing tasted authentic Mexican. What a disappointment, we live no place close to this restaurant, so on top of going out of our way... the food was just such a let down. We wont be back. read more

At least 3 days a week growing up, I would eat a Ham & Cheese Omelet at Michas. The freaking BEST! I am still here at least once a week for breakfast. Micha's has got to be the best place in town for a Mexican Breakfast. Omelets, Choriza, Machaca, Menudo...All fantastic! The service is great and the kitchen is fast. "Blah" is the best descriptor of this food. I came here for a meeting, so we had a catered order already prepared. Maybe hot trays ruined the quality? I just found everything here fairly bland. Only really good things were the chips (just the chips...the salsa tasted like watery tomato sauce) and the service. However, I'm aware maybe we didn't get the best food as part of the catering order. I'd be willing to give it another shot next time I'm in Tucson. read more

I no longer live in Tuson and my Mexican wife and my uber-gringo self miss Micha's big time. If you want taco-hell then by all means give it a miss...if you want the real-deal...check it out. 1 star only because the Food was delicious! Waitress needs some customer service training. No greetings. We sat with an empty bowl of chips, ended up grabbing a bowl from a vacant table. She never once asked how we're doing or how our meal was. My mom was charged $3.00 for a side of sour cream. I was hoping the cashier would at least care and ask about our meal was.....But nope, just as rude as the waitress. Decided to look for a new Mexican Food Restaurant after Midway Molina closed it's doors after 65 years! Tried Micha's. Impressed... FAST EFFICIENT SERVICE! We had a party of 13 and the waiter was EXCELLENT! He had our food on the table in no time! The ONLY Negative...their ICE TEA is TERRIBLE - the worse I've ever had! And they charge extra for additional chips after the second bowl (which doesn't go far with 13 people). Again, the service was excellent... not sure if they're our replacement for Midway Molina but I'd recommend them because of their quick and efficient service. read more

Went there Saturday the 26th 2017 8pm. Service was horrible, food was okay. I will never go back. I've been there many of times but this time the service was SO BAD. Waiter was too lazy to even come back around to ask to fill our water glasses (did it once in 2hours). Only came back when he had too. He did it once in 2 hours. Would have left 20 minutes earlier but he didn't come back to get the payment for the check after he dropped it for 20 minutes so we could leave. My family has been going to Micha's for 30 years. My first solid food as a baby was a Micha's cheese enchilada. So we have history! My family has had various special events here over the years, including catered ones. Everything is always delicious! The decor is a bit dated and nothing special, but don't let it fool you. This is some seriously good Mexican food! Their menu is pretty huge, and you can get all kinds of "combo" choices. Some highlights... Their hot salsa is, well... awesome sauce! Their green corn tamales are some of the best around. Their cheese enchiladas are STILL one of my favorite foods! The beef patty tacos can take some getting used to, but I have yet to meet someone that is NOT a convert after trying them. read more

This place was amazing. The food was so good and the wait staff was the best. We had an infant child with is and they were very accommodating with the high chair and even providing him with some children's toys to play with...I was actually surprised by how much the staff engaged with us and our child. Back to the food...it was amazing! We've eaten at almost all the Mexican food joints in town and this easily tops the charts. Their coffee could be better, but that's just me being picky. Overall, good food, good atmosphere, and good service. It's a shame we discovered this place 2 weeks before we move to another state. I would highly recommend. read more

I've been here twice and really it's just because Mi Nidito down the corner is either closed or has a really long line. The place is nice, small, intimate, sort of authentic. The food is good. I like to think I can tell how good a Mexican restaurant is going to be based on their chips and salsa. Man, the chips here are really good. Thin, crispy, hard, salty- amazing. The salsa is spicier than most places but I usually mix it with a lemon and we're good to go. The food is good- not amazing or incredible- just good. Almost okay. It's definitely not to keep you coming back for more. The first time I came here I was very disappointed with their customer service. At one point I went to the kitchen myself to try and get a refill because the server never came back around. One time I tried to call over the phone to inquire about their catering. The man that answered said, "Oh Idk about that. You have to call back later. I don't really work here." This last time I came the server gave me one refill and gave us the check while we were still eating our food and asked if we needed boxes. WHILE WE'RE EATING THE FOOD. After that, she never came back. The customer service is not good, which is sad because it's family owned and operated so you would expect better service. And because the food really isn't that great, I just don't think this is the best Mexican food Tucson has to offer. But if there's nothing else around and you're in the area- then, sure. This place was just what I was looking for when in Tucson for business. I wanted authentic, high quality Mexican food with some flavor and spice, and that is exactly what I got! The salsa was spicy but not overpowering, and the margaritas were tasty without being overly sweet (no skimping on the tequila at this establishment!). I wanted to try everything on the menu so I went a la carte and tried the machaca, carne asada, chicken enchilada, and chile relleno. All were superb! I would definitely recommend the machacha anything and the chicken was white meat and very tender and delicious. Delicious food and kind servers. I only recommend playing music and adding more lard and salt to the beans. They were a bit bland. Salsa is spicy and flavorful. Chips are great. It's been a while since I last ate at Micha's. I think I got them on a bad day. The place was packed....a good sign....but we waited forever for our orders to be taken. Our server was apologetic when she finally came to get our order but the lady serving our salsa and drinks was not a happy camper. My cheese enchiladas were covered in a sauce so salty it was almost inedible. And the combo was warm and not piping hot. The chips were great but I wish we had a mild as well as hot salsa to go along with them. I'll return again some day but with so many wonderful choices in South Tucson, it might be a while. read more

We frequently go there for "going away" lunches when people transition at work. The food is standard mexican fare, but they are used to big groups. If you want truly sensational Mexican food try Mi Nidito, right up 4th avenue. Overall, not bad, not great. read more

My wife and I have been coming to Michas for decades. The food and the atmosphere was always delicious and cordial. However, this past weekend my wife and I, took our son to eat some dinner. Looking forward to the pleasant experience we had encountered in the past, we were VERY disappointed. Our server was extremely apathetic, got our drink order wrong (something as a simple request for WATER seemed to be out of his league) and barely came around to refill my iced tea or the waters we had, I had to waive him down to which he seem annoyed. He was curt, and not very attentive to our needs, and believe me, we are not difficult to please. I ALMOST did not tip the server but fortunately for him, my conscious wouldn't let me. The food was barely standard and cold, it has taken a nose dive compared to what it used to be. I felt myself a bit annoyed and envious at our neighboring table which seemed to get ALL of the attentiveness that we deserved! They obviously knew someone and more than one server excitedly and gleefully rushed to serve them while we sat there being ignored with cold food. As we finished our meal, our apathetic server had a change of heart, he gladly appeared with check in hand, anxious to get rid of us. As I approached the counter to pay for our meal, the gentleman at the cash register barely greeted us but was sure to verbally tell us what the bill totaled! As I signed the receipt he kept from thanking me by looking down at his counter and completely ignored us. I stated loudly that "THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE EVER COME TO THIS PLACE, NEVER AGAIN!!" My wife also concurred loudly, surprisingly, neither he or the waiter who was standing near by said a word, nor did it seem as if they really cared. NO MORE MICHAS FOR US, this place sucks!We'll go down the street to the other restaurants where they are friendly and the food is better. read more

My first visit here was great! Feels like a nicely authentic and tucked-away spot for delicious Mexican food. The chips and salsa were very good- the salsa has a lot more spicy kick to it than most places in town- and they were a dangerously addictive combo. I ordered up a calabacitas topopo salad, and it is easily one of the best in town I've tried. Delicious blend of everything and that yummy salsa, with a very edible and tasty shell along the way, too. So based on my one visit, I really enjoyed it, and will update when I go back. read more

I was very pleased with my lunch at Micha's! We were greeted by a friendly staff member, and I was pleased to see that even during a busy lunch hour they were seating people to allow for social distancing. The server was friendly and quickly took our drink and food order. I ordered the shredded beef tacos and the meat had a great flavor. The server checked on us a few times to make sure everything was going good, which I appreciated. The price range, $10-$15, was very reasonable for the quality of the food. read more
