Terrible customer service but they have a bigger yarn selection than my local Michaels.

I agree with previous reviewer, Emily H. This Michaels has a great selection but the lines are always way too long. It seems every time I go there, I have to wait way too long to get through the checkout. I think the training for cashiers here is probably a 1 day seminar. read more

This place is horrible. Every time I go here the line is at least 8 people long. Today went in looking for envelopes and a hole puncher, looked around a while then decided to try and find someone to ask for help, finally found a girl working in an aisle so I asked her. This is regarding customer service over the phone. I have not been in the store. I called in to see if they carried a product before I made the 30 minute trip out. The first time I was hung up on after waiting on hold for a minute. After calling back, a woman answered and was not friendly at all and seemed very annoyed with every comment or question I had (I was very nice the whole conversation). Even after I said thank you at the end, she just hung up. I never rate on Yelp but immediately after the conversation I was so disgusted by the service I felt I had to. read more

I absolutely love Michael's because I love to craft. However I ordered stuff online to pick up in store. The pickup went great. The girl who I've worked with numerous times for pickup is not pleasant and always seems like I'm bothering her. Aside from that...because I was picking up in store, I was sent a 60% off coupon for that day only, which I had intention to use when I went to pick up my stuff as I wanted to grab a drawer organizer. There was no sign posted for price so I asked an associate. He told me it was $100. I went to the register to pay and found out it was actually 50% off. Of course I can't use a coupon on top of a discount. I then asked if there was any way to either take off the discount and allow me to use my coupon or give me the $10 back since I was unable to use it. Our clerk had to ask another employee who maybe was a manager I am unsure. But she didn't care to look at me, didnt really care at all, she just said no with attitude and went back to what she was doing. I made a point to tell the gentleman thank you for trying, but didn't hold back telling her I thought it was poor customer service and I thought it was ridiculous. I called to find out if they had a certain hard to find size of picture frame. The lady answering the call took the time to not only tell they carried it but looked to be sure they had them in stock. She also gave me the price range and told me they were 50% off. That meant she walked down the aisles to find the frames. I went there and bought the frame. read more

I instantly feel sad when I walked into this Michaels. The merchandise is strewn about, some of the walls were blank, and the employees act as if you are in their way. Good thing all I needed was a frame and I found a happy face in that department. She was able to answer my questions and point me in the right direction. I just had the best framing experience ever.(hah). We had bought art work in Disneyland over summer and I was tired of having it hide in my closet. Michaels is having a huge discount on their custom framing so hippity hop we went. Dana was SO awesome, she gave us an alternative to the frames (custom framing would have cost us over a hundred bucks, we only paid fourteen for two frames!). Being very much into crafts, I never have too many negative things to say about a crafts store. This Michael's store is no exception. Christmas crafts is one of my particular favorites, and I visited the Dublin Michael's several times from just after Thanksgiving to about a week after Christmas. This was the first year I've ever shopped there during the Christmas holiday season that the lines weren't long. (It really brought the current economic downturn situation home!) Especially during the week after Christmas, I found some terrific bargains and the checkout lines were pretty much non-existent! I was able to completely re-stock my Christmas crafts supplies for next year! And, I was able to completely stay within my budget! Thanks, Michaels! read more

I love crtaft and when ever I feel blue I would go and spend hours in craft store and end up buying something. It was rainy yesterday, so my bubby took me around and we end up going to Michaels. I found the box at the corner of the store contain yarns and there was a red tag of 50% sale on the box saying that the regular price was $4.99. I asked my bubby to help making sure that what I saw was right. Well, if the regular price was $4.99 and with discount it would come down to $2.50, I would take it. Oh by the way, it was a 2000 yards of yarn or something, so I grab 2 of them hoping I would have some hobby to do during the winter. At the register, I was not really paying attention of what the price was and I'm sure many people wouldn't care to look as much since they trust in the register and trust what they pick themselves. However, something just made me look at the screen and check the price of the deal I got. I was kind of disappoint with the price of the yarns because it turn out to be $8.99 and no discount or and thing at all. The cashier seemed to not really care much, she said she could try making it 50% off and we offer to go take the picture for her since it seemed busy and no one could check the price for her. I end up not taking it and pay for the rest. However, my bubby seemed to be a little pissed so we went back in and he got the picture of it. He showed it to the same cashier and the result is, the tag must have been at the wrong place. Well, to us this seemed to be a scam, the tag that is place where the products is should ring up the same. The store should honor on the price and the tag they out to the customers. Or in this generation, this is how the stores would do to get more money out of your pocket. Oh well, from now on, I would be more careful about what I'm paying and not been taken advantage of by the fault of the store or the staff. Maybe they intend to do it, so they gain more from you. There are tons of craft supplies! Around Christmastime that have a Christmas village, most of the buildings aren't very high quality but they have a few good ones. Although they have a great selection, the cash register lines can be long, but the cashiers are normally pretty friendly. read more

They never have enough cashiers. I'm always standing in line and not for a short time. It's always about 5 minutes or longer. I dread having to go there, but sometimes, it's the only store that has the craft or tool I need. Wear flats if you go, ladies. The standing around will do a number on your feet. read more

Well, let me put on my SHOCKED FACE!! Yes, you will have to stand in line, because it's a hugely, popular store. The prices are good, but of course, they could hire more people, then you'd pay more. Get a DAMN clue. Anyway, me and "she who MUST BE obeyed," have shopped here many times, and have always loved it. I've also used the framing area, and the work was stellar. Always, go in knowing exactly what I need, and walk out with a lot of "more" than was on my list. Kept a small apartment in Dublin, when I was working in Pleasanton, so I wouldn't have to commute. Absolutely horrible. I just called this location 3 times. I was hung up on 2 of those times and the last time the store rep kept me on hold for 10 minutes and I even gave the the product number which I thought would help. While I am writing this review the Fremont location took my call. The service rep took under 2 minutes to locate my item and have it in stock. I come here alot. As in 2-3 times a week. If you don't get there when they have stuff in stock, then you are out of luck. I find it difficult to find everything in stock here. It seems as if they don't have it or they just run out very quickly. The check out line is why I am taking away another star. The line will frequently be backed up all the way to the vase isle in the back. It's ridiculous. Also, returning items are a you know what, because you still have to wait in the huge line. Michaels I definitely love you however I got one of your grab bags today. And yes I know I came late to the show I should have came a couple days ago so I do own my part in this disappointment. However as you know everybody loves your grab bags and usually they are an amazing deal. Today however, the grab-bag I got honest to goodness I don't even think it was worth $4. It contained three items. One was class of 2019 cupcake sticks. The other item was a happy Halloween unfinished wooden sign that would have been great if it actually lit up but it was missing the light therefore it was broken. And the last thing that was in my bag was three packs of these plastic tubular beads that sell for $0.99 a piece and the whole point is to melt them as a kids crafts. All three containers were white. This is the first time I've been incredibly disappointed with the grab bags that I love so much. Again I should have came a couple days ago but I didn't know when this round was going to start and that's my fault. But as a loyal customer to receive a grab bag that honestly had a broken item and wasn't even worth the $4 I was really disappointed. read more

My husband & I went because we'd seen their recent sales paper and decided to get some decorations for our home. Every person that worked there was in their own world and could care less about their customers. There were 2 cashiers open, but when we went to the first she said she had to "get organized" and couldn't ring anyone up even though her light was on. So we went to the other cashier and waited in a line about 10 people long. In spite of the long line there remained 2-3 Michaels employees in the front just looking around and not helping to get the line down. They may have plenty of paper/craft supplies, but I'd rather go elsewhere because the customer service was horrible read more

They have a lot of things for my artistic needs. Most things are in stock but once in a while a specific item is out of stock. Understandable. Early this evening I asked one of the guys about differences between oil/acrylic paint and the levels and brushes. He didn't know but referred me to Rachel who enlightened me with great information some based on personal experienced and satisfied my questions enough to convince me to purchase based off her suggestions. read more

If I could give it one star I would. Bought three frames in Tracy and needed a 4th. Tracy was nice enough to check inventory of all stores in the area and Dublin had 3. So we got right on the road. Only to drive 30 mins and have them not have it. The line for framing was 3 people long even after we waited 10 mins for help. I spotted a different employee and asked her for help. She seemed completely put off since apparently she was just about to go on lunch. She was even rude to other employees when they stated they needed help. Then she basically said that the other store should have called before they let me come out here. Clearly that's my fault. read more

Looking to frame a couple of mirrors so checked here since there was a nice discount coupon going. I found the framing department to be uneven in service. The first person I spoke with was super nice but gave advice I later found to be bad as far as the type of frame to use for the weight of the mirrors. The next person was meh-OK but non-committing about what they would be able to do. Enter the manager who wasn't very personable, customer relations-wise. The policy to not let customers go up to the frame samples felt restrictive and stifles the decision making process. Turns out that even with the coupon, it was more expensive to do the job there than another framing place that also had a special going. All the better for me. read more

Larger and more craft sections than the pleasanton location. They usually have decent stuff on clearance. However, many of the sections are difficult to locate and can be very cluttered, worth the trip though because they have great deal and almost anything craft related you could be searching for. Frames are good quality but kinda pricey..I'd recommend run to Aaron Brother's next to CVS if you're trying to do framing. read more

I will not defend this store just because I am an employee. I know why the said lines are always long and it's because the investors the own & run Michael's are very stingy and never (with the exception of the holiday season) want to pay to have a decent amount of employees working. The "floral" section (yes they really have balls to call polyester & plastic floral) is in the front and center of the store because it's always been there and they have no intention of moving due to the fact that it's a failing department revenue budget wise. Like it or not but this particular Michael's has a vast chunk of the store devoted to scrap booking because of demographic research done in the area about three years ago. With both the space for scrap booking and floral taking priority, yes much of the rest of the store is compressed considerably. The reason why many products that should be adjacent but aren't (like glitter and glue) is because, like many other large corporations, we have a team of people on corporate level that do not ever set foot into the stores making the "planograms" (formal mapping out of where every item in the store is placed). My advice if you want a better shopping arts and crafts supply experience ? Shop independent stores like: The Yarn Store on Regional st. in Dublin Knit this, Purl That! on Main st in Pleasanton 2 The Point Needlepoint on Sonol Blvd in Pleasanton In Between Stiches on Railroad ave in Livermore Village Quilt Shopon Santa Rita rd in Pleasanton Pleasanton Fabric & Upholstery on 1st st in Pleasanton Stamper's Warehouse on Town & Country Dr Danville Pleasant Memories Scrapbooks on Rosewood Dr Pleasanton California Stampin' on Sonol Blvd in Pleasanton B Simple Scrapbooking on Second St in Livermore Or better yet buy handmade at Etsy.com. Etsy has a really rad "shop local" function. Click on it and select your location and it will give all kinds of sellers in your area. The results will be mostly already made goods but a lot of the sellers are willing to do trades and a lot of them sell hard to find supplies. They might even be willing to let you in on a local crafting group they're part of or point you in the direction of a really great (non - corporate) craft supply not listed here. read more

One of my favorite places to go to get ideas for my next project! I love that they have 40% coupons mailed out, PLUS every purchase you make there is some sort of coupon good for the following week. There is no reason to ever pay full price on anything! I've collected everything in my scrapbook room for at LEAST 40% off everything. Great deal, huh? There is also a nice middle-aged gentleman who works there that is always courteous and checks to see if I need help. BTW..definately take advantage of their BUY 1 GET 1 for a penny deals.. I got 2 awesome drawing pencil sets with this deal and I loveee them. One thing to be wary of is that soo many things are cheaper to buy online. One of my pencil sets retailed in store for $30. But online it was $14.75. I personally like to purchase with cash so going in store is more convenient for me. So yeaa..just make sure your "deal" reallie is a deal. read more

Suggestion........SHOP AT RICHARDS IN LIVERMORE!!!! After shopping for about 45 minutes and filling my basket with $100 worth of items...I went to get in line and there was approx. 30-40 people in line and ONE cashier!!! I left my basket at the end of the line and left. That is not the first time but it is the final time because I would rather drive to Livermore Richards and save myself the grief. Half the items on shelves are bare and were the last time I was there so I have no idea who does the ordering but it's pathetic. They have been "understaffed" since I can remember. BEWARE of Dublin location and please spread the word! This store is poorly managed, disorganized, messy and the managers are down right lazy and are non-customer service oriented. I experienced the most ill-mannered store manager by the name of "DANNY" and extremely non-helpful and unwilling to think on her own Asst Manager by the name of "DAISY". If you have any problems please complain to the Corporate Office - Customer Care (Biren) or District Manager (Rick Cormier) ASAP. This person should not be tolerated or employed with Michaels or any other company dealing with customer service! Please take a stand and say something if you have experienced any unprofessional service, dissatisfaction or lied to with him or his staff, this should not be tolerated by anyone! They are a business because of the customer and we do have a voice! I tried to make a return with my receipt and the salesperson said she could not read the barcode on my receipt (smudges on the receipt) but my method of payment was legible and the item purchased was legible just not the barcode. She proceeded to call the Asst. Manager by the name of "DAISY" and she said the register can not read the barcode and she had to talk with the Store Manager "DANNY". She then left for about 5minutes or more and returned saying "the register or I can't read the barcode (we knew this before you left), so we have to issue you a store credit for amount purchased"! WHAT.....wrong answer! I am not going to just give away my money to Michaels unfairly. I demanded to speak to the so-called Store Manager "Danny" Oh, by the way, the purchase was only 11 days old. So the Manager "Danny" came out rudely, aggressively, and loudly informing me "that I don't have to issue anything...... it was a courtesy to offer a store credit, because the register can't read my barcode". Now to me that sounds like a technical problem not my problem, I had proof that I made this purchase with the receipt and printed statement from my acct. He also told me that there was nothing he could do and that there was no other way he could refund my money for this item. HMMMM! I soon found out that was a lie! After we exchange dialogue about the receipt he then demanded that I leave"HIS STORE" as though he was the owner of Michaels Arts & Crafts. I urgently demanded the name of the District Manager and they told me to look it up on-line. Really! So then I stated to Daisy and Danny are you refusing to give me the name of your DM? I will contact corporate and report all of you. At this point Danny the store manager mumbled something and walked off. I asked again and finally, with much hesitation Daisy Asst Mgr reluctantly wrote on a post it note a number but no name! Wow! Then with much more probing she gave me his first name but not last! Well, I did leave "HIS STORE" and contacted another Michaels in the area and explained the situation over the phone to the Manager and she told me that it shouldn't be a problem and come right over. Looks like she was right! "Go Courtney!" A qualified and competent "Manager" was able to look up the transaction by my credit card which was legible on my receipt and compared to my credit card in hand! Wow.....Really! She handled it all within about 30 seconds and apologized for the incorrect information and any inconvenience that I had encountered! Awww Thank You! Clearly "Danny" the Store Manager is not competent, qualified or service oriented to be store manager. Also, I did placed a call to corporate and they did apologize for the store's inconvenience and will be looking into this matter further and to expect a call from the DM. Ugh. I just went there the other day and I had to write a review. It was so disheveled, dirty, and the people working there were just plain rude. Also at peak hours they had ONE person working the registers. When I asked if anyone could come and help check people out they just laughed and shrugged their shoulders. In this economy they can't find someone to work a few hours during peak periods? Come on. It is shoddy customer service at its worst. I know they offer cheap prices but could you add $0.05 to each item's price and hire enough staff and/or people to treat your customers nicely? read more
