When I came to this store, I was greeted by Seth. He is friendly, welcoming any new guests. There are people playing games of their respecting RPG. This store is small, but they have a nice selection of RPG, figures, pzint supplies and everything in between. Just a fantastic store for gamers, they hold events. A huge selection of Warhammer, MTG, D&D and many others. Prices are so reasonable here like $20 - $50 depending which product you are looking for. The staff is helpful and really care too. They sell Naruto, Lorcana, Magic and Pokemon cards. This store sells a lot of RPG sets and focus on Warhammer figures and Magic RPG cards. The service here is fantastic. Every employee I've had the chance to interact with has been fun and knowledgeable. My issue is with the temperature of this place. The last couple weeks I've been going it gets packed with people and for some reason the employees are not allowed to touch the air conditioning. Imagine sitting in a hot room with 30+ people and they can't use the AC while it's 90 degrees outside... Their owner needs to allow them to adjust as needed. I absolutely love this Game Kastle location. I just wish I lived closer to it. The staff is super friendly and Seth offers loads of hand on demos for painting miniatures. He will also give you tons of advice on building terrain too. The store is packed full of miniatures, paints, brushes and items for your terrain at home. Just asked the staff and they will point you in the right direction. I love the terrain setups at this location too. Seth and his crew have done a great job in creating terrain for all types of miniature games. The staff at this Game Kastle location really cares about their patrons and proves it with their stocked shelves, beautiful terrain, and loads of empty tables ready for play. The board game selection is not as big when compared to the Santa Clara location. However, the snack food area is plentiful and offers lots of variety for the hungry gamer. read more

UPDATED 2013-11-16 It's been a year, and I felt this review needed an update. This location is now my regular gaming haunt; I'm usually there at least a couple days a week to play games and paint. There are plenty of regulars who bring games with them just to spend an evening or afternoon playing them with other people in the store. All of the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, likewise the regular customers are pretty much all a good group of people. I especially love the selection of supplies for painting and customizing minis and other game pieces they have. Their events calendar is always getting new things added to it. They feature demos both from vendors/game designers and customers showing off their favorites, tournaments, and workshops. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm a regular customer of their other location in Santa Clara, and it makes me very very pleased they are opening a location in Fremont also. I popped in during the "soft" opening last weekend, when they weren't fully set up but we welcoming customers to come in and nose around a bit. I love the space, even though it's not as big as their other location. There's still a lot more gaming space than it looked like they'd have, just judging from the front of the building. I also love the parking lot in the back, and that they're right between home and work for me. Easy to stop in for those emergency last minute buys to finish up the mini for the game for the up coming weekend and the like. I also like that there are more eating options nearby, unlike the other location. That said, it looks like they'll be stocking snacks and drinks in shop to make it so you don't need to leave unless you have a particular craving. Having the choice is awesome. Really cool space to play some games! I've been to the one in Santa Clara before which was super big, and this one is a lot smaller but it's just as awesome. There are games to play, and the people there are super helpful. It's a lot of fun! If you know ahead of time that you're coming, it's better to make a reservation because tables fill up and there's not too many tables. Their game selection is not very big, but there are definitely still games to try out and play. read more

I've been to both Game Kastle locations and I got to say this one is my favorite. It's smaller, but it has this nice cozy feeling compared to the Santa Clara Location. So anyway enough comparisons and let's get to the review. Their customer service is excellent. I had a a few questions on which washes to use and the staff member, Seth? I think, went over everything. Turns out he's all about painting minatures and I lucked out given the opportunity to get some tips from him since he use to work at Games Work Shop and judged at the painting contests. I told him specifically my needs and he gave me a straight answer/solution. Nothing better than an easy purchase. I was confident my purchases were the right choices. I took my goods home and got straight working. Everything he told me worked perfectly. Washing + Glazing = Profit. Before I came here, my yellows looked choppy on my minatures, but now they're straight eye candy, at least IMO. He offered me to come out on Tuesday for his painting classes and to just to come out with whatever I'm working on. He also told me their store has a good 40k community that come out on Fridays. Their prices are normal B&M prices and any gamer knows what it means by "supporting the local stores". They have a point system that tracks your purchases and you earn points for free stuff which work in both locations. The Fremont location is definitely a farther drive for me, but I've been tempted to jump ship with their excellent service and friendly demeanor. The only problem I got now is, I got a back log in my paint jobs and I honestly only played 1 game of 6th edition. Let me know if its "Noob" friendly on Fridays and if it is, I''ll swing on by when I'm free. I could definitely use more game time and live tutorials. read more

I called before visiting to inquire about a particular game and they were very kind and knowledgable. I found it a little difficult to find but I was driving around in the dark while it was pouring in addition to not being familiar with the area. The entrance of the store is sort of hidden behind stairs from what I remember but upon walking in, you're instantly overwhelmed with the amount of choices. There are plenty of tables that you can reserve or use if they are available. There are also "demo" games that you can take out and play/try before purchasing. They didn't have the game I wanted and actually was not sure if they would be replenishing the supply since the game was so old. I did, however, waitlist myself for another game. I was also please to find that they have card sleeves and boxes available (only makes sense, right?) for decent prices. I definitely would come back with a few more people to get more knowledge on a couple of more difficult games. read more

I've been to a few game stores before, but never one as friendly as Game Kastle. They have a variety of products to choose from, and they offer activities to do as well. They also are eager to introduce you or inform you about certain products based on your interests. This store is also well organized, offers a lot of space for people to participate in, and is lively. Often, I have found game stores to have a crowded layout and only had a couple of people who often kept to themselves, but here I feel the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. I've been going to game stores for over 30 years, and my wife and I had an awesome first experience at the Fremont Game Kastle. James, the person working there when we visited was welcoming, friendly, and accessible. He talked to us for a couple of minutes, asked what we were playing, and then went on to do his work after making sure we knew that he was available if we needed him. My wife and I found some miniatures, James suggested a primer for me, and we left VERY satisfied with our experience. A dear friend of mine recommended the Fremont Game Kastle a couple of weeks ago, being clear that the staff was very cool, and her comments were spot on. I was here for International Tabletop Day 2014 and I could not have been happier. This place is great with some incredibly friendly and helpful staff who were more than eager to please and remained attendant to everyone throughout the day. The customer service here truly is fantastic. The store itself is very organized, very clean, and well lit. You don't feel like you're in the dark cloisters of gamedom when you're at the store. And there are multiple tables in which to play games unlike some other stores that just want you to buy things. Honestly, I think I'll be coming here for all my games now. I have been to many game stores all over the country, and I have to say that the other Game Kastle store in Santa Clara was among the best I'd ever been to. The only thing against it was it was 30-40 minutes away. So naturally, I was thrilled when I learned that they were expanding into Fremont. They have not disappointed. With ample parking, well organized stock, a wide variety of product and plenty of space. This is not the cramped cave-like kind of store that was so common in my youth. This is the kind of retail establishment that I'm comfortable bringing my wife to, confident that her presence will be met with polite enthusiasm instead of strange stares and comments. And the people. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful (but not pushy) staff. Who all love games, but aren't snobby about it. They'll never sneer at you for not liking "the right kind of games" And most importantly, the players. This location has vast amounts of space for gaming and supports several very well attended open gaming times for whatever melts your butter. Board games? Miniatures? Painting clinics? Great game store. Staff is highly knowledgeable. If you give Seth a few words describing the kind of game you want he can walk you around the store and help you find the perfect one. I often ask for advice to find games that are good to play with my mother-in-law (she's a gamer and doesn't even realize it!) and Seth can help me zero in on something good. I went to this location twice so far and it was a great experience. I bought a land station pack on my first visit and played a few rounds of Magic with my friends, then I came back for a second visit a few weeks later and purchased a box of Conspiracy. The staff was incredibly friendly and extremely helpful. I used to frequent C&J's collectibles until they closed down, and these guys are miles ahead of them in terms of store presentation and customer service. Store is really more geared towards tabletop players, but they do have accommodations for MtG players. Pros: Friendly staff Clean store, great atmosphere Fair Prices: Items are all listed at MSRP Cons: As far as I know, they do not sell Magic singles UPDATE: The prerelease tournaments are well organized and fun. My boyfriend & I check this place out at least once a week. Before this one opened in Fremont, we'd only pay the other Game Kastle a visit if it was on the way to where we were going. Though we know we probably won't be making weekly board game purchases (we LOVE board games, but these kind can get pricey), we always like to swing by to see if there's anything fun and interesting going on at Game Kastle. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They're always open to sharing any recommendations if you're not sure what you're looking for or if you know the type of games you like to play. It's also really nice when the staff remembers you too. My boyfriend & I paid Game Kastle a visit one weekend looking for an expansion to Escape. A few days later we got a call from Ray letting us know they received an order of the expansion and that they'd hold a copy for us! I've never met such an amazing and friendly staff. I love Game Kastle. I mainly frequent the store a lot for Magic the Gathering events such as Friday Night Magic, pre-releases, and game days. The store is incredibly nice and comfortable. The play areas are clean. The staff is wonderful and inviting. The store feels very homey. It definitely feels like a place where you can come in and play a few games or hang out with a bunch of friends. The store frequently restocks beverages and snacks and there are plenty of food locations nearby. Pros: Friendly place to play Clean Store doesn't look cheap/bare, is well stocked, and well decorated Staff is great, friendly, and no pressure Cons: The parking lot is kind of small. Magic events sometimes doesn't launch because there aren't enough people. I'd like GK to offer more Magic events during the week (but I think it is FAIR that they cater to other gaming communities also) MtG products are priced at MSRP (Not a bad thing, it is just that there are are shops in the area who sell boosters and booster boxes for a lot less) I would rate GK somewhere between 4 and 5 stars. Probably closer to 5 stars. I love the store and the staff. It would definitely be somewhere I wouldn't mind introducing a friend to. The only reason my rating isn't a solid 5 stars is due to the pricing of products sold. All products are sold at MSRP. This isn't a bad thing. I don't mind spending a little more at GK as I understand that paying a little more is a reasonable trade-off to have a nice place to play and shop. read more

Friendly clerks who know their games. I'm a regular here; come here enough and everybody will know you on a first name basis (you wanna go where everyone knows your name). They have D&D, Warhammer, Magic the Gathering tourneys Friday nights, all the Star Wars tabletop and board games (Armada, X-wing, Legion, Imperial Assault, Destiny), Malifaux, all kinds of Cthulu games, whatever kind of tabletop game is your deal, they either have it or can tell you where to get if they don't actually carry it (like some casual stuff has gone Target exclusive). I legitimately wondered why people would rate this place so highly. Before coming here I figured it would just be a game/hobby shop like any other (Note: I have only recently started going to anything remotely equivalent to game/hobby shops so take this review with a grain of salt). But one of the things that I found while looking around here is just how helpful the staff is. I've been here three times so far and each time the staff was attentive and helpful, even with the varying amount of customers in the store. Sure half the people were playing tabletop games of one sort or another but the employees still took the time to figure out what would be interesting to me and recommended equivalents as well as thoughts on what I was actually interested in. We checked this place out and were looking for a birthday present for our friend who loves board games. We always mooch off of her games for board game day so it was time to contribute to the collection. This place has plenty of games. Some look stupid. Some look highly addictive. Some have a diorama that you can play on. All you can play in store. The owner bought lots of utility tables for free play. Say you want a neutral place to play games with that random dude you met online and you don't feel comfortable with him in your house. Or if you live in a tiny apartment and don't have a large gaming area. There were people playing a Star Wars game, some other space game or just chatting about games there. Bad news was that the place had faint nerd stink. That musty, "my diet is mostly flaming red hot Cheetos and Mountain Dew "smell that often comic book stores and VHS rental places had. Oh yeah. It's here. But not as bad as Sdcc. Also bad news: nothing is on sale. All games are sold for msrp, so sometimes it's better to shop on amazon. The games featured on the "table top" YouTube show are on one rack if you're looking for something popular. I ended up with a King of Tokyo expansion pack and a mini game called "love letter". Love letter is the perfect size to Cary in your purse to bars and play with your friends. read more

I decided to check out this place before I drive over to Sunnyvale's Hobby Town. It's literally just 5 minutes from my house and thought it couldn't hurt to see their selection. It's easy to find the place as it's right by Washington Blvd but the problem is the parking is in the back and it's easy to miss the entrance since it's small. Upon heading inside I braced myself for that vibe/atmosphere that I usually get from gaming shops. I'm talking about that feeling of being the odd man in a large party. When I got there, there was only one person (I'll name him Brandon because his name tag says so. For all I know his real name could be Baba G. Nosh), and he looked up and asked if I needed help. I did, I asked my question, and he quickly gave me store's selection of model paints and whatnot. He even gave me advice on applying grass on a model surface. I bought a few stuffs like a paint brush, paints (duh!), and a blind package of Pacific Rim (I got Crimson Typhoon, yay!). Then a few people started walking inside the store and I could tell that they're regulars. I'm not a gamer though I used to be a D&D gamer back in the 90s. They seem to have a full schedule of gaming activities which is good that they offer that. Overall, it's a good store, very clean, good products and I'll come back here of course. Hopefully (and it's a big if), that they expand a bit, and hopefully offer other products like say Bandai models and its hobby product lines like Gundam markers and Mr.Hobby. I have to travel all the way to a small hobby store in Japantown in San Francisco to purchase the specific ones I need. read more

What a great little place this is. Staff where every friendly and helpful. I brought my kids and my kids could be little.....they where very understanding. I went in to see if they had some Tamiya paints, and I walked out with 3 Minitaire paints and Adventure time trading cards for my kids. Awesome shop. Unparalleled customer service. Thrilled I stopped by. I just started up scale model building and happened to stop by for some painting supplies. I had never been in a "games" oriented store before. I wasn't expecting the genuine interest Seth and the others showed in my project.
