The weekly new release selection is always on point, I love walking that wall of newly released comics and finding something new. Alex, the owner, is genuinely kind and approachable. The shop has that Cheers-like vibe where you can talk comics with the owner and other collectors without feeling rushed. If you're in the Bay Area and love comics, this shop is a must-visit. I don't expect owners or employees to act like best friends with every customer, but basic friendliness goes a long way. A simple greeting, a smile, or even a respectful tone would make a difference. Every time I came in, I tried to say hello with a smile, but I was usually met with cold shoulders, blank looks, or no response at all. I've seen mixed reviews from other people, so maybe experiences vary, but from what I personally noticed, customers seem to be treated differently for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. Second, the language used by the staff/owners was uncomfortable. I brought my nephews with me, and there were also other families with kids in the store. The workers or owners didn't seem shy about throwing around curse words, including f-bombs, in front of everyone. I understand this is not a children's store, but if kids and families are present, it really should not be that hard for grown adults to keep it professional for a few minutes. At one point, I exchanged looks with another parent, and we both clearly felt the same way. Lastly, the pricing is disappointing. They do have some rare figures, but many of them are overpriced even when you factor in shipping from online sellers. The loose figures were also poorly packed and still expensive, which makes them hard to justify. Overall, the prices felt pretty close to eBay, sometimes without the convenience or buyer protection that online shopping offers. Maybe this place is worth checking out if you live in the Bay Area and want to avoid shipping, but based on my visits, I don't see a strong reason to come back. Experiences like this are exactly why online stores continue to thrive.

The cons: some items are definitely significantly above online prices but I can't really fault them for it being brick and mortar so they have higher expenses. What a gem in Fremont!!…read more The employees here are always super friendly and the book selection keeps me coming back. There is something here for everyone's interest. I love how there is a great selection of cute gifts designed by local artists as well as community events. The children's section is inviting and offers so many books for all ages levels. I usually stop here before visiting Asia to pick up books for my niece and friends' kids. I'm always able to find an age-appropriate book that suits their current interest here. I contacted her immediately to see if she'd like this so that we can do a puzzle together especially since she loves Mario. She instantly said yes. I purchased it and she was delighted. The staff seemed busy though and was barely able to assist me with checkout. A lot of people were inquiring about individual, packs, and boxes of TCG games so staff became very busy really quick. At the same time, there were TCG locals happening at the same time. I get it.

This place is really hole-in-the-wall basement ish warehouse type feel bookstore. The prices are amazing for the used books. It is incredibly reasonably priced. I found two children's books in very good quality for $1 each. What a steal! For the most part, don't expect finding hot new bestsellers in here. This place is like for book antiques or if you need a used copy of something that might be a few years back. It was good for what I needed since I'm looking for some older historical fiction books about the American revolution. I was surprised to find two books here that I needed and so maybe you'll get lucky too! The couple who owns this place are very friendly. They said hi right upon me walking in. Selection is pretty wide, the books genres are organized in a neat way but the books themselves are scattered. For example, the fiction and nonfiction adult books are alphabetical order by last name but the children's books are not. It made things harder for me to look but I didn't mind since I had time. If you're in a rush then maybe this place isn't the best or just ask the lady up front for help! Overall this place is a gem and the proceeds go to a good cause--San Mateo historical foundation!
