I ordered from Newtype and never received my item due to a shipping/carrier handoff issue. Their system accepted my address, but the package was handed off in a way that made delivery fail. When I contacted support, their only resolution to their shipping process failing was for me to either accept store credit or pay them more money to reship an item I already paid for and never received. I attempted to escalate the issue to both support and ownership, but at this point I have not received a meaningful response or resolution. In the end, working with this seller has been slower, more expensive, and more of a hassle than other Gunpla vendors I've used -- and depending on your address, you still may not receive the product without extra fees or problems. I'm leaving this at one star because Newtype currently has my payment, I do not have the item, and I am still waiting for them to resolve it fairly. Attached photo is all the other kits that I have ordered AND received with no delivery issues, extra charges etc. Just in the the time since I have ordered from Newtype. I used to build Gundam kits years ago when I was in high school. Was introduced to it by a friend that was from Japan. Until a few months ago, I randomly saw the show being streamed on Hulu, then I remembered it. So, I searched online and the first few search results came from Amazon. However, overly priced and didn't want to drop hundreds of dollars on a kit. Then, find the 1/144 models spontaneously at Hobby Lobby. It was fun building them, but I remembered my friend had a bigger one. The search bug for Gundam got addictive. And fortunately, I found a new store locally in Concord. I but the Wing Zero 1/100. After I built it, I went online and saw it for much less than what I paid for. The search continues and I found New Type. They have their website up to date with tons of selections. I've now bought close to 10 and I couldn't be happier. They're only open from Monday - Saturday from 2pm-4pm. However, if you buy your items before noon, they usually can provide it to you same day. Or you can have it shipped. I love this place. Hope they consider opening to the public again. I'd love to use the paint both they used to provide. read more

This place is great for Gundam lovers. It is unfortunate that they don't allow for in-person shopping at the moment. Get place for Gunpla. I just thought I clarify the curbside pickup procedure. You can't just order online and go pick it up anytime you want. Wait for them to email you to pickup. There will be 1 email confirming your order then another email to inform you the order is ready for pickup. If you didn't receive the emails, emailed them to confirm. Print out the order confirmation at the ember of the online order process just to be safe. you will need your order number. When you receive the pickup email you can head to the store/ warehouse. Once you are there, stay in your car and call them to let them know you are there. They will being the order out to you. Open your trunk or the back Windows of your car and they will deposit the order there. Hope this helps. read more

Very neat place, has a lot of paint and small accessories to put together and paint Gundams.of you buy things from there you can use their equipment for free. There's a separate room with vents and airbrush you can use. They are happy to answer questions if you need tip. Black Friday they had 20% off everything in stores. This place is awesome. Everything you could ask for for Gunpla builders. I wish I found this place sooner. They have a good selection of building supplies ranging from paints (Tamiya and Mr Color from what I saw) to sandpapers to cutters to.... everything. Selection is amazing. HG to PG kits as well as some of the anime related ones like One Piece and and FMP. Prices are very fair if you don't feel like surfing eBay and I'm all about supporting local hobby shops as there are so few left. Staff is super friendly. Wow! This place has a lot of Gundams. It's like 4 Costco aisles full! I was amazed! The prices seem to be pretty decent as well. I came here with some friends just to check it out. The staff seemed very friendly and I liked how they have a room in the front where you can work on your projects. Parking is somewhat limited but I found parking on the street nearby pretty easily. The best (i.e. the only) place to get quality hobby supplies in the bay area these days with a really good selection of hard-to-find items. I mostly scratch build photo props so I'm not really into the Gundam thing myself in any way, but with a name like "Newtype" they've obviously got a lot of those insanely expensive giant 70s mecha kits as well. I'd shop here a whole lot more and give them a much higher rating if they were ever actually open when they say they're going to be open. I've made well over a dozen trips out here during their clearly posted business hours and I've only encountered an open door once. Weekday or weekend makes no difference. They're just never open. I get that they're more of a warehouse than a retail store and I have zero qualms with their choice to keep limited and highly flexible business hours for walk-in traffic--indeed, I'm profoundly grateful that they accept walk-in traffic at all--but for the love of god put the real hours up somewhere instead of lying about them. If you can't justify opening up for more than ten minutes a week or something, awesome. Post that ten minute window up on your site and I will make sure to be there and be completely thrilled with that experience in every way. I waste so much gas driving down the nightmare that is 84 for absolutely no reason that it's sadly still much cheaper and faster to order from Amazon. I really, really, really want to support local hobby stores but they all seem determined to make that completely impossible for one reason or another and it's super frustrating. read more

I came here Labor Day weekend with my son and instantly loved the vibe of the store. It's a bit hidden - but look for the Gundam on the door in an old business complex on the first/last exit from 92. We had such a good experience that I came back with my wife to buy more stuff. They were BBQing outside and even offered us free food. So glad I found Newtype. Number one spot to get plenty of kits and whatever you may need they've got it all I can see and the delivery quickness is excellent. Kits always have great packaging whether your buying multiple kits at a time like myself or just 1 at times like myself. Sometimes I get them overnight delivery which is awesome and if coming from Cali it's only a few business days so all around this the spot imo. The selection they have here is amazing! The building looks plain from the outside, but when I first walked in and saw the shelves of Gundams, I felt like a kid at Toys R Us! I spent over an hour just walking through and looking at all of my favorites from the anime as well as all the different versions and grades of each Gundam (There's stuff from Evangelion and Full Metal Panic too!). They have something for everyone from SD Gundams, to Master Grade, and even Perfect Grade and Premium Bandai kits. There's also plenty of tools and supplies to get started too. It takes a lot of willpower to refrain from just grabbing everything to buy and take home lol! I took a long break from building Gunpla, but visiting this shop really motivates to start building again. I'll definitely be coming back in the future as I work through my backlog, and I'm looking forward to seeing how everything looks once they've had a chance to set up some more. read more

Had to update this review because since I've been here 3-4 months ago, seems like a lot has changed! they doubled the space that they display their stock and it looks like they got a lot more in. I was pretty impressed by the selection of gunpla that they had, as well as the accessories that were available. They also have areas for you to paint/build your gundams as long as you bring in your own paint you can use their equipment, and they even offer to teach you as well. Very seldom nowadays do have I seen an owner and employees actually engaging with customers and get this genuine feel that they are hobbyists themselves and would like to help their fellow hobbyists. If you walk into this store, they will surely help you with what you need to buy or do on your gunpla, and if they dont have something in stock they might just have the resources to help get you what you want. Just stopped into this new Gunpla store and loved it! Prices are very good and sometimes in line with japanese prices. IE: kit cost 2000 yen price here would be 20 bucks. Selection is pretty good too as the back top rows of the store contain master grades and lower shelfs have High grades from many different series. They carry a ton of modelling supplies from paints to nippers. Staff is knowledgable and give modelling tips as they are builders themselves. The very unique aspect of the place is that they have 2 ventilated spray booths that u can utilize and spray and work on your model kits in. How awesome is that!!! I got a chance to stop by the store today. It is beautiful - there is plenty of space to walk around, everything is neatly displayed so items are easy to find, and a great display case for existing models. They also have a paint room for use if you'd like as well! The staff here is very friendly - John was in the store when I came by, and was very helpful in helping me select the kit I was looking for, in addition to being happy to explain some lining techniques I wanted to learn about. The place is still new (it's their soft launch), so be excited for their official launch soon! The prices here are very reasonable - and the staff is very friendly. We had an hour or so of time to burn so I happen to see a new Gundam place opened up so we drove up to check it out. I am absolutely amazed by what the owners have done. Obviously a lot of thoughts has been put into setting up the store and they have done it so well. Firstly, the place is new and clean. Upon entering there is a 1/10 Char's Zaku on display. Then there are a few tables where customers can use to build Gundams. A great place to hang out. They even have a paint room with proper ventilation and masks, all free for customers to use. That's an awesome idea, not only selling Gundam, but also help promote the building. There are some really experienced builders there who are making some nice looking build. Then there is a place to hang out with a couch+TV showing, of course, Gundam episodes. Surround which are a glass showcase of some really nice builds. I was salivating just looking at the details and craftsmanship there. The actual kits that are for sale is in another room. I wonder why they don't open up the place. Anyway, they have a great collection, aside from Bandai kits, which they mostly have PG/MG/RG and a little bit of recent HGs, they also have quite a few sets of Dragon Momoko kits, which are totally rare esp in the US. I was really tempted by the 1/35 Unicorn bust, it was hard to keep my wallet closed. They have been opened for just a few months. The service is very friendly, it is clear that the owners are huge Gundam fans and love to make more friends. I am sure I will be back.. Hopefully that Unicorn will still be there when I clear out my backlogs at home. read more

I visited place to see what kind of collection they have and their inventory is pretty good. They have multiple copies of certain kits which is nice. It is very organized and feels like a very home welcome feel. The owner/employees were very helpful and welcoming. They know their stuff and they have samples for you to use tools on if you are curious how they feel or work. They also offered airbrushing help and advice.
