I have been going to In Between Stitches for a little over a year now. The customer service is fantastic. The ladies that work there are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I have attended five classes over the past year: Beginning Sewing, Start Quilting, Keep Quilting, and two thematic quilting classes. The instructors have all been helpful and inviting, ensuring that the beginner sewer/quilter feels confident as they progress along in their projects and share many helpful hints along the way. The shop also offers knitting classes as well as classes for open sewing, knitting, and crocheting. The shop carries yarn, fabric, and notions. I am looking forward to signing up and taking another class soon! read more

I was in the middle of an intermediate sewing project when the instructor suddenly switched gears and announced that everyone had to work on a beginning project project from her list, including someone who had been sewing in that class for 5 years. I asked about my current project, and she told me to work on it at home. I only wanted to advance in this sewing class, but now am unable to, and neither is anyone else. When I spoke to the owner about this she got rude and defensive and treated me like a child. We were already treated as children in sewing class because if you bring up the wrong subject, the teacher snaps at you in front of the whole class. The teachers list of projects involves boxy clothing, napkins, pajamas, pillow cases etc. Since I want to advance my sewing knowledge, I have opted to go to a different business that lets you work on your own project and has highly qualified teachers that will help you with your own project. read more

Took the tuffet class at this location with Robin from West Coast Tuffets. It was a great class, well put together. Initially it was difficult to see if there was a class going on at this location. Once I got a hold of the shop, the person connected me with Melissa. Melissa recognized the mis-communications and worked hard to address everything. The class was on the perfect day for me to take it. We are very excited that we were able to go to this shop and take the class. Store has a large variety of current quilting fabrics. They offer a large variety of classes. Best of all the Staff is FRIENDLY. As a quilt designer, I will remember this store and will frequent when I need something. read more

They have a great list of classes to take, but I probably won't reschedule. I signed up for Machine Quilting, and then I got in a car accident the day before the class.. Medical injuries stopped me from going to class the next day. I contacted In Between Stitches and asked if they could move me to next month's class. They explained their policy is to pre-pay instructors a week before the class, so if one chair is empty it doesn't impact the instructor. They did offered 30% credit toward another class. Livermore tax is 9%, so there goes almost 1/3 of the offer. But, that is not the point! Every quilt store I have EVER been to is gracious and friendly, and they would have asked me if I wanted to rebook the class. I mean...I don't know too many people who can sew after being in a car accident the day before. Really! Be aware of the terms of these classes and BEWARE of this store! If you sign up for a class, don't get sick! Or, you may wish you never heard of the place (like me!) read more

Just had my second "not good" experience at In Between Stitches. The first time, the sales staff all but ignored my friend and I when we were in the store. This time I figure the sales staff must be going through a difficult personal time, menopause or she hates her job because she treated me terrible! I was shopping for fabric to finish up a quilt and I guess I didn't jump quick enough at her suggestions for fabric. She was so rude to me, I was taken aback. I don't know what I did other than walk into the store and ask for help. The second sales woman that witnessed the whole thing, either didn't know what to say or thought it was better to ignore it. There aren't many quilt shops left, but I will travel further if I have too. I won't be giving them my business again. I will be writing the owner a note as well today. read more

What a lovely store! On looks alone, it's filled with light and exactly what my fantasy crafting room would look like (in my fantasy mansion...). I appreciate that they carry a mix of classic quilting fabrics, along with more vibrant and stylish choices, including batiks. They also have a great selection of reproduction 30's prints, my absolute favorites. Today though I had more than a pleasant shopping experience, Holly saved my behind! I had pieced together an entire top for a baby quilt, only to THEN realize that the butterfly blocks--that originally looked cute--when put along side each other, represented the entire spectrum of color selections from those neon '80s leggings. You remember. I basically had to start all over, and as I tried to describe my friend's (recipient of quilt) nursery colors, and what I was trying to achieve with my project, Holly READ MY MIND and put together amazing fabric choices. To be honest, my friend's color choices are a bit nontraditional, and I was in over my head. But Holly managed to make them look cute together! I will be back for classes, for patterns, for fabric, for everything! Note on the price: yes, it's a bit higher than JoAnn's or the like, but keep in mind that fabric companies will print the same design on different qualities of fabric, and that's why there is a pricepoint difference. Good quilting stores like this one only carry the quality stuff. You work hard on your quilts, the fabric should last a lifetime! read more

I was making a little felt plushy for my friend when I ran out of thread! I remember seeing this place when walking down First Street once and decided to take a trip here instead of going to a chain fabric store like I usually would. My first impression was WOW. There were so many fabrics and patterns! I really wish I knew how to quilt or I'd be all over this! But alas, I was just there for some thread. They had a rather large selection of thread and it took me a while to narrow down what thread color was right for my project, but they did have the color I needed. The lady that worked there was a little shy and didn't exactly run up to help or welcome me the second I entered, but that didn't hinder my experience any. But the thing that really made my experience was that they had these little rolls of felt for 50 cents and they had colors that were PERFECT for my project. The first time, I only grabbed one little felt roll, but I wound up coming back the very next day to clean them out of that color haha. So I do recommend this place, and maybe I'll sign up for some quilting lessons in the fall! read more

Recently moved to a location on First St. in Livermore and the women that run the store have done a great job and the stores looks wonderful. Just like a quilt store should - in an older downtown Livermore building with great wood floors, etc. it's well lit and roomy. I have taken quite a few classes here from various teachers and have always enjoyed them. If you're interested in getting into quilting the beginning classes are great. read more

I was on my way home from Northern California decided I needed a Quilting jag fix. So as I was approaching Livermore I yelped quilt stores and found this one. It is situated in the cute downtown area of Livermore which I have never visited before. Although the streets were crowded with people checking out the cheap chic shops. I was able to easily find a parking place which was good, because I have a broken foot right at this moment. The shop is elegantly laid out. They have lots of different styles including Kaffe Fassett fabrics, fun novelty, traditional reproduction and some supplies for wool appliqué. Staff were warm and helpful. We had a long discussion about plaid and Henry Glass fabrics regarding a new collection coming out. They offered to notify me when available. Sweet! Well lt, well decorated the quilts, and they have classes. Next time I'm passing through I would like to visit them. Wish I lived closer. read more

This is my first Yelp review, too. I was just looking for something else and saw this store, so I joined Yelp just to review it. Fabulous!!! The new shop on First Street in Livermore is so beautiful. It has high ceilings, skylights and wood floors. The windows are always decorated so nicely and it is a joy to just walk around in there soaking up the beauty of the place and all the colorful fabrics. They carry a lot of fabric and offer all sorts of classes from absolute beginner to very challenging. There are also clubs that meet at different times for sewing and fun. The ladies who work there are all very nice and will help with picking out fabrics for any project. I highly recommend going by and just taking a look. read more

A friend and I drove from Modesto to visit In Between Stitches yesterday and had a great time. We stayed for about an hour looking at fabric and dreaming up projects. The owner was very kind and the store was spacious and adorably decorated. Although I didn't buy as much as I thought I might, I was pleased with the selection of Amy Butler, Moda, and Michael Miller. Definitely worth the little drive! read more

I stopped in this shop on the 10th and I happy I got the chance to do so. The location is in a perfect part of downtown, and the shop appears spacious but inviting even from the outside. They have fabric lined up in perfect rows, and many (if I remember correctly) arranged according to the designer so that a shopper could easily find coordinating fabrics. The quilts demos on the walls are also very beautiful and a great representation of the possibilities for their fabrics. They have rolled up fat quarters in shelves above the fabric rows and beside the cut counter there is a box filled with folded fat eights labeled at $1.50. Their prices match up with what I have seen at other quilt shops, and they have an area with $7/yard sale bolts, but I didn't end up buying anything that day. If you have a chance, stop by this shop and buy some beautiful fabric or dream up a project! read more

The staff is very knowledgable, and have given me (a novice sewer) helpful advice on which fabrics and tools are best for my different projects. Moreover, on the occasions that they didn't have the item I was looking for, they told me where I could find it (and at what prices with which deals). Overall, it's a relaxing and friendly way to shop- they are not trying to up-sell their customers; they genuinely want to (and can!) help. The intro sewing classes they offer are fantastic. The classes provide a wonderful environment for getting projects done, with an expert on hand to answer questions, provide tips, and for beginning students, explain the 'how to's of pattern reading, sewing machine threading, and garment construction. I would recommend it to any beginning sewer. read more

I went in there today (having only quilted once before WITH HELP!) and Lisa thoroughly assisted me in selecting a pattern and helping me find the material I wanted for a very specific project. The whole staff was great and gracious about my kids being themselves and "loving" on the dog and knocking down a quilt (small one, people)...i'm sure they were glad to see us go but it was such a pleasant experience and I can't wait to go back (without the kids) sometime :) read more

Keep in mind, prices are high but that is because the fabrics are lovely and patterns are ones you can't get just anywhere (there is also a small sale section to peruse) . Everyone who works there knows what they are doing (classes are taught on site), are really kind, and most importantly (for me personally) are far from pushy. Even if you are a novice (like myself) you'll see that spending a couple more bucks for hard to find fabrics will make your project so much more special. read more

This is a great quilt shop in Livermore. Every time I've been in the store, everyone has been very friendly and very helpful. They have a great selection of fabrics, including Civil War fabrics that I seem to gravitate to. I can't say that I've ever walked away empty-handed when looking for fabrics for projects. They always have beautiful quilts on display and carry a lot of patterns and kits. I would love to take some classes, but traffic to get there during the week is a nightmare from my neck of the woods. read more

This is a great quilt shop! I try to stop by whenever I'm in Livermore. They have a wide selection of fabrics and patterns, lots of wool felt, and the mother-daughter owners are just nice people. The fabrics tend more toward the pastel range rather than Civil War reproduction prints or bright modern fabrics and batiks, but they always have a wide selection. Highly recommended! read more
