I can't say enough great things about this creative studio. First off, they have just about the best classes for adults in the area. I've taken a floral watercolor class and had a wonderful time learning the technique of painting flowers. I've also went to their open studios, where I turned a vintage kimono into stylish pillows in under three hours. The owner Erika is so warm and friendly. She has wonderful and practical solutions to any of your sewing or crafting dilemmas. Come here for creative inspiration on a project you're working on, or pick up one of their amazing craft kits. The store is so beautiful and modern, that it is hard not to want to spend an entire afternoon at Needles.

Yesterday, I bought some raw materials here, including needles, threads and fabrics, and made a doctoral graduation tam for my cat!

I've always wanted to learn how to sew. I tried to learn via YouTube but -- despite being a reasonably crafty person and fairly technical -- it was a failure. When I heard that Needles Studio was offering machine sewing classes, I jumped at the chance to finally learn. The class was great -- just what I needed. The instructor was patient and no one in the class felt lost. It was small with lots of personal attention as needed. You could also move through the project at your own pace. On our first class, we made a sunglasses case. After just one class, I knew enough to come home and practice making tote bags and a bunch of clip-on ties for my son (who is strangely super into ties). For our second class, we brought in fabric for pillow cases. We finished a little early so we had time to make a second pillow case. I still had more time, so the instructor was even kind enough to show me how to do zippers. I'm very happy with the class and I look forward to coming back for more classes.

The newly opened Needles Studio, conveniently located on El Camino, is a wonderful addition to Palo Alto. The owner, Erika, is fantastic and very patient with beginners - both adults and children alike ) My kids have taken an embroidery class and sewing class and loved both the classes and their finished products. As an instructor, Erika is calm, approachable and explains each skill in easily manageable steps. As a result, every participant finishes her classes learning from their mistakes, feeling the satisfaction of a job well done, and taking home a lovely product (see photo of tote and pillowcase). My daughter is finishing up her first week at Needles Studio's summer camp and she cannot wait to go back in August for another week of sewing fun! Erika and her team create a fun and relaxed environment for kids. It's a nice balance between providing project ideas but allowing each participant to follow their own creative path. This week's camp focused on creating products to donate - pet items for animal rescue, comfort items for the children's hospital, and toiletry items for the homeless. Such a wonderful idea to encourage creating and giving!

It's beautiful in the photo, but also in person. Also very comfortable for myself and my wife.

I designed and built an ergonomic sofa, and I spent countless hours at Needles sewing my sofa. Look at the photos, it's a beautiful design and extremely comfortable. I would not have been able to make this sofa without Needles and owner, Erika. For many hours, I had the opportunity to observe Erika, the operation of Needles Studio, see how she treats folks and the value we all get out of working at Needles. I cannot overstate how welcoming, kind, gentle, and understanding Erika is with children and teens, sewing enthusiasts, and especially with adults uncertain about their sewing skills. She has a heart for customer service, an enthusiasm for sewing, and she appears to love teaching. Daily, women walked in with a story like, "I have a sewing machine. I didn't pay attention when my mom taught me how to sew. Now I want make something. I opened the sewing machine manual. I tried to make it work, and I can't. I need help. I want to learn how to sew." These folks become Needle Studio's students and fans. I appreciate, and I think most folks, appreciate hands-on education vs. figuring it out yourself, especially when dealing with a detailed task such as sewing. Surprisingly, I also enjoyed working around other folks who are also learning to sew, and creating their own projects. You may find, like me, that Needles is not just access to a bunch of sewing machines, or the industrial-strength upholstery sewing machine, but also access to a large, standing worktable, and just about every little tool that you might need to sew... tons of scissors, little measuring devices, transparent rulers, and roller fabric cutters. On several occasions, Erika dramatically shifted the direction of my sofa. I was reluctant to make upholstered cushions, until I discovered Needles. I was having a heckuva time inserting foam into the cushion fabric case. Erika pointed out that I might run a zipper the length of the cushion rather than just on one end. This was a huge stress reliever, and my sofa would not have been possible without her suggestions. Needles is a warm and accepting little community of folks learning to sew, and building wonderful projects. If you want to learn to sew or you're into sewing, I highly recommend that you check Needles.

Needles Studio - you're awesome! My 10-year old is currently taking a sewing class with Erika and LOVES it. They made a pillow case on the first day from on-trend fabrics. My daughter was amazed by her own abilities and I was amazed by how well-constructed her pillow was. The space is bright and welcoming, and parking is easy. Also! The front of the space boasts a small shop with beautiful scissors, kits, fabrics, and other gadgets you never knew existed but won't want to leave without. On our second visit we left with a cute pair of swan scissors and a charming embroidery kit. Good gift options! If you're looking for a home-away-from-home sewing studio or want to learn how to sewing basics, do yourself a favor and check out Palo Alto's newest craft studio.

Hi do you guys do embroidery for small orders? (2-5 jackets)

Hello! We teach hand embroidery classes at our shop but unfortunately we don’t do any machine embroidery for custom items. Thanks for checking!

The parking situation is great as the parking lot is rarely packed and has large spots for those with bigger vehicles. As you walk up to the storefront, you'll see through the clear glass windows a plethora of colors and patterns with some sample quilts hanging out for display. Step foot through the doors and you'll be sent into a world of fabrics infused with aisles of colors, textures, accessories, and resources to help level up your quilting skills. And within a few minutes, we were greeted by their staff to provide any guidance or assistance navigating their wares. We were only browsing on this occasion but for those in search of quilting accessories, this is a haven with a variety of fabrics for you to choose from in order to piece together the next masterpiece. We spent a good 15 minutes just perusing the store and all the knickknacks that were available. The samples hanging on the walls were inspiring! The prices seemed reasonable and with the raw materials being affordable and accessible for making such beautiful pieces of art is probably a good reason this hobby still exists. I think what stands out is the quality of the fabrics as the texture and feel of them definitely seem more durable and sustainable than what you'd get through an online store. Overall, The Granary Quilt Shop keeps the quilting community thriving with their shelves full of fabrics and quilting accessories. The team members here are seasoned vets in the hobby and are extremely friendly to support your quilt making needs. A specialty shop with a brick and mortar presence is a fading trend but this shop has clearly made its mark, has a good following among its local community members, and continues to bring in new customers with sales and family activities. For being around for nearly a decade, this shop is a beacon for the quilting community!
