What a happy surprise to find this little yarn store while strolling along downtown Los Altos. You can easily miss it because they are right next door to a popular bakery, who has a line that blocks the entrance to this store. As I was browsing around I was greeted twice by friendly ladies asking if I needed help. I noticed a sign that they are a Rowan flagship store, and they certainly have a good supply of Rowan yarns. What I really appreciate about this store is that they carry some luxury yarns, but also have common yarns like Encore and Bernat. I noticed they also have a good supply of knitting accessories like needles, winders, and weavers. Glad to have found this LYS, although they are not so local to me.

A young lady wearing a dark pink sweater knit with yarn from uncommon threads. The sweater has lace detailing at the top and is full length.

Love this yarn shop! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. I love going to the Tuesday night knit night and the Sunday crafternoon. Also, the quarterly sweater KAL is great and super helpful when wanting to expand skills.

I don't find the prices to be all that different from any other Local Yarn Store that carries finer quality yarns than the big box stores.

I visited this shop yesterday after seeing a canvas listed as "in stock" on their website. I'm…read morenewer to needlepoint and was excited to browse in person, especially since there are only a couple stores in the South Bay/Peninsula. When I asked about a specific canvas, I was told it was not available. I mentioned that the website showed it in stock and had an active add-to-cart option. The response I received was unexpectedly dismissive and in a condescending tone. The woman behind the counter said: "Amazon has trained you to expect things you see online to be in stock," followed by an explanation that their website does not really support online orders, at least not yet. I completely understand that inventory systems and websites don't always match. Had this simply been explained in a straightforward way, I would likely have purchased a different design/kit while I was there. Instead, the interaction felt condescending and uncomfortable enough that I chose not to continue shopping. For a hobby that relies on welcoming and guiding newcomers, tone matters. This was not my first experience with needlepoint, but I can easily see how it could discourage someone just getting started. Because of this experience, I won't be returning. I'd recommend new stitchers seek out another local store where questions are encouraged and customers feel comfortable spending time (and money).

WOW! My new favorite shop! Dried to come during Covid and they'd closed and I only stumbled upon it…read moreaccidentally this time while on my way to the Apricot Stand that's across the street. GIFTS: I was so shocked at all the gift options in this place! And I almost didn't go in because it's located INSIDE the community senior center. But I found the things they sell remind me of what you'd find at Cranberry Hill, nice quality, only this shop is smaller and the prices are lower. Gifts for ME too...lol. Given the pricing and cute stuff, I might have (definitely did) buy a few things for myself too. EASY TO FIND: Anyway, it was easy to find, they had a sign. You just turn right as soon as when you walk in the double doors and they're right there. The center is that huge lot by the duck park, and the senior center is at the far back of the lot. PRICES: They really have a wide range of pricing because of their selection so I feel I can easily find something price appropriate for the person I'm buying for. They had a ton of small things under $5 (even $2 and $3 dollar things) like little mats for under your coffee mugs, but higher end like the amazing colorful hand knit scarf I bought...for myself. It was hand knit with that extra thin yarn...a million stitches and only $45?! Bring on fall! CARDS?! What? YES and so cheap (good riddance Hallmark). Tons of cards like those high end Papyrus ones at the store that are more like a part of the gift, only these started at only $3.50 a card. Crazy. HAND-CRAFTED: Sometimes I think "church bizarre" when I hear that, but they said everything in there was hand made and it looked so professional to me. SELECTION: They fit a lot of stuff in that little shop. Candles, paper art, purses/bags, jewelry and lots of beaded things, knit things, towels, even children's stuff, and a ton of hand sewn gifts like placement settings, and cup holders, etc. Even some of the jewelry (Pom-Pom key chains and seed bead stuff) were teen friendly, along with some of the fairytale paper art boxes. TWO CRAFT FAIRS: They were advertising a craft fair and said they do two a year, in May and November and that it's supposed to be huge with tons more stuff, so I'll be heading back for that. MEN: Honestly, this seems is a great place to men to find gifts for the various ladies in their lives.

This place is awesome! Everything is handmade and good quality. I especially like the stuff with…read morethe LX label inside.
