we did our anniversary date here and it was such a fun activity where you leave with cute keepsakes! we booked two beginner sessions for 9am on a saturday, because we did have dinner reservations at night and you should plan for a large buffer even beyond the estimated timeframe, especially for more intricate designs. for two small creations, we spent about 6 hours at the studio and finished around 3pm, but another student finished their medium rug in ~3 hours. once you book, read through the confirmation email for tips about how to choose a good design image and an overview of the tufting process. first you start by tracing your design onto your canvas. then phoebe will do a quick demo to teach you how to use the tufting gun: how to thread it, what speed to move, how to handle corners, how far apart your lines should be, etc. then you'll do a few practice runs so she can give feedback, then you're ready to start! tufting is the longest part of the process, especially when you're switching colors or your yarn needs to be rethreaded. once you're done, she'll cut the canvas out and have you glue the edges in. then she'll attach the backing to it and show you how to clean up and refine your rug design with the razor and scissors. the whole activity is a pretty lengthy process, so i'm sure it's not for everyone, but if you like crafting or trying new things, i would definitely recommend giving this a try! we made a rug in the image of our dog and one customized with my name. phoebe handled the class so well, she has appointments starting at different points in the day and working on all different sizes but her time management was on point! even when there were about 10 of us in the studio, all at different stages in the process, she was able to jump back and forth between us to make sure we all had what we needed. i was so appreciative that she didn't just leave us hanging once new students started coming in because my rug was looking a little sloppy at the end but she still took the time to sit down and help me clean it up. thanks phoebe for a fun experience!

I usually don't write reviews, but I think this deserves one. I had a tufting session back in August with my boyfriend and another couple. It was everyone's first time tufting, but Phoebe was a knowledgeable and patient teacher. We began with a brief tutorial on how to use the tufting gun (which they had recently upgraded so it's smaller and lighter). We were able to start tufting right away because we had sent our designs ahead of time and she helped us outline the design onto the frame (highly recommend doing this to maximize the amount of time you have for tufting + trimming + shaving). While tufting, Phoebe remained available for guidance and feedback on how we were doing (she was awesome!). There were also some snacks and drinks available at no extra cost for when you want to take a break. We had booked a 3pm session and arranged it so that each couple would work on 1 medium-sized rug (25 x 25 inch frame). I initially thought that our design (the duck and bear) was simple enough to finish within 5 hours, but we ended up taking 6 hours to finish our rug. I was worried that we were going to get kicked out since they closed at 8pm, but Phoebe was kind enough to let us stay a bit later to finish our rug, which I was very grateful for. I highly recommend tufting with another person as it was easier to tag team and take turns tufting. Both my boyfriend and I agreed that tufting was really fun and that it was in the top 3 most enjoyable dates we've had so far. Overall, I had a great time and I would definitely come back again if the opportunity presents itself. I was trying to think what could have gone better, but I couldn't think of anything. Thus, I am giving this review 5 stars.

Got to try tufting for my birthday and it was super fun! My husband and I both had ideas we wanted to try and Phoebe was super patient, knowledgeable, and helpful as we tried to make our designs! My husband made Appa into a magnet and I made coasters for our car, definitely a fun way to decorate our car/home with a special memory! We would love to come again and bring a group!

Phoebe was knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and helpful. Her attention to detail helped us perfect our projects. She has an extensive yarn color selection! We enjoyed learning a new craft and completing our project in the same visit, within the suggested time. The TuTu LLC reusable bag to take home our project was a fun bonus! We will be back for another project!

I booked a group beginner tufting workshop at Tutu for my girlfriend's birthday party, and our experience was above and beyond what we ever could've expected. From the start, Phoebe was the perfect host, patiently communicating back and forth over email to help me coordinate the right package for our group size, pricing, designs, all the logistics that normally would have made me dread booking any type of group workshop anywhere but were so easy for me with Tutu. Come the actual workshop, I was so touched by how much they had tailored the workshop to be the perfect birthday experience for my girlfriend and our guests, from setting up their own birthday banner and marking my girlfriend's tufting station with small birthday decorations, to even providing a small fridge for us to store the birthday cakes during our workshop. Everyone at Tutu was so welcoming, kind, and attentive, even wearing the goofy birthday hats I had brought for our party with a smile on their faces the whole time. Phoebe even took photos and videos of our party on her own so we could focus on tufting and enjoy our time together instead of stressing about taking photos for ourselves, and they let me connect my phone to the Bluetooth speaker to play my own playlist for us to work to The activity of tufting itself was also perfect for a group activity, with all the equipment being provided in good condition and staff being so supportive and skilled at helping us create our rugs and polish up our finished creations (Phoebe's mom Janet helped me finish mine and she was INSANE at trimming and texturing). They provided a snack station with a pretty wide variety of Asian pastries, snacks, and drinks for us to take breaks. And you WILL need to take breaks, as the whole process of tufting, gluing, trimming, and finishing our designs took all of us longer than our 4 hour allotted time slot. Even with us going a bit over time, everyone on staff was so patient and supportive and didn't pressure us at all, helping us as we finished our designs until each of us were satisfied with our creations. I would highly recommend booking a good amount of time beforehand (I booked 2 months out just because I already knew the date/time I had in mind), and when they say the workshop may take more time than they predict, they MEAN it, since it really does depends on everyone's skill and the type of design you want to create. And while the pricing may seem a bit steep at first (our group discounted came out to $95/person), once you get to your workshop and see all the time, materials, and care and attention you will need to take to turn your design into a reality, the price is actually so much value for the space, materials/equipment, support, and overall experience that Phoebe and everyone will deliver to you at Tutu. You can truly tell everyone at Tutu enjoys the art and craftsmanship of tufting and cares about delivering the best experience possible to anyone who wants to step into their workspace. All of us walked away with our creations, smiles on our faces, and an amazing experience that we will definitely be coming back for again. Thank you Tutu!

Booked a beginner class for 6 people and a medium rug for my S/O. We went in for the 10 AM class and were blown away with the quality of service and attention to detail Phoebe and her team offered. They would check in periodically to see if we had questions and also offered to step in and help for harder sections of the design. We were unable to finish the medium size rug in the first session so we organized a time to come back and finish. We loved the process, design, and experience at the studio!! It was cozy, comfortable and provided a fun way to try out a new hobby. Would definitely recommend and come back for future rug tufting projects.

What a great experience! I've never heard about tufting until recently and finally got to try it this past weekend. I liked that each staff member educated each pair of guests by going over safety measures, how to use the equipment, and anything else necessary. The process starts with tracing whatever picture was brought in as that'll be used as a template. It took me a few tries to get use to the tufting gun. I love that all the visual of all the colors available, and they had plenty! The website mentioned that this may take 4-5 hours to complete. My friend and I took almost 6 hours and no one rushed us out, thank you. Upon almost finishing, a staff will come to make sure you've filled in the gaps as once the backing is put on the rug, there's no more edits. Materials and snacks provided. The cost is averaging about $100/person depending on which package you choose. Overall, I think it was worth it for the hours of entertainment provided and I got to take home my masterpiece. #5/2024

One of my most memorable date experiences! We chose this place because it allowed for 2 people to work on one rug and we felt that the medium size was perfect for us! They hosts were very friendly and helpful in helping us create the perfect quality rug and color matched us to the right yarn too. It's a long physical process but the end result is so worth it! I see the rug every time I go into our bathroom now and it makes me smile so much. They have snacks and drinks here for their customers and play music while you work too! We went during their anniversary month so they gave us a free cup and tufted coaster too.

They traced the outlines in pencil for us!

A group of my friends came here to tuft for our friend's birthday and it was so much fun! It was all of our first times and the staff here was super friendly and patient with us. They offered free snacks and drinks as well which was much appreciated as we spent a couple hours here! My friends and I made smaller rugs and there was enough space for all of us (8) to move freely and have our own little working areas. I would highly recommend and would definitely come back again!

So much fun! You don't need any prior experience coming to this workshop. Bring water and some snacks or eat a big meal before coming. We spent a good amount of hours here. The studio is located on the bottom floor in a shared business building that has their own parking lot. The studio is small, but Phoebe says she has a bigger studio for company outings too. Bring your own design, make sure it's an outline and not a photo. We lucked out and did a couples special during 4th of July discount. So we thought it was a reasonable price to pay. We also were able to make a pretty decent size rug. The goal is to finish your rug, so highly recommend keeping your design simple like big shapes and less colors because then you'll have to switch the yarn every section. One of our lessons learned. You can take breaks but it's one of those projects that when you get into the zone, you don't want to lose momentum. You get to practice with the tufting gun before doing your own rug. For the most part, Phoebe will leave you to it but she's around if help is needed like tufting eyes or something. You don't use industrial glue in class for safety reasons. All in all it's a great activity to do as a date day or girls day! Not many places like this either. Make sure you have patience and don't take the class so seriously.

My boyfriend and I booked the couple session for his birthday and it was an amazing experience! We made a rug together and it was so fun, would highly recommend. When we first walked in, one of the first things that I noticed was that Phoebe had set out some chocolate, a balloon, and a birthday card at our tufting station--we immediately felt welcomed. Our session went from 4-9 PM and we actually ran a bit over time because of all the steps that go into tufting! We brought our dog and she stayed in her carrier next to our station for most of it with no issues. Phoebe was super nice and knowledgeable, leading us through a tufting tutorial first and then guiding us as we completed our own rug. As for the session itself, everyone was mostly working quietly and Phoebe played some music in the back. It was a very relaxing atmosphere. I'd say for the price, the couple session is a good way to get your foot in the door and try rug tufting for the first time. For us, it's more of a one-time thing so we felt like it was worth it!

My boyfriend and I had so much fun at Tutu during the couple session! We celebrated our first year anniversary with Tutu and they were so thoughtful and gave us a nice card with a bottle of wine to wish us happy anniversary. This location is located in a small plaza with dedicated parking. The studio is on the first floor towards the front of the building next to the stairs. It's a small and intimate space but the staff was welcoming and made sure we had what we needed for our 5 hour session. She had drinks and snacks prepared in case people got hungry. The couple session was with two other parties so we had about 6 people with the instructor. She was helpful in getting us setup and also showing us how to properly use the equipments. She let us practice going in different direction on her practice sheet to get a feel which was really helpful! I was so glad that the instructor encouraged us to go with a design we thought might be too complicated because it ended up turning out really well! She helped guide us how to simplify the drawing and how to make it work from a design standpoint and I'm so glad we worked with her closely throughout the session. I encourage folks to try to get more help from the instructor if you're unsure about how to proceed or what to do. I can see why tufting can be addicting and I recommend giving Tutu a try! Would recommend making sure you have food before hand and be prepared to work on the rug for a couple hours. It's a lot of fun and the tie flies by. Overall we had a great experience here.

All I can say is be prepared to put in the work! Personally, it was an experience out of my budget but worth it. I emailed them ahead of time to ask some questions and got prompt replies. I booked two medium-size rug tufting. We drove from SF. There's guest parking on the first floor garage area where their studio is located as well. You come in with your design idea - they suggest big simple shapes and thick outlines. Then you can connect your phone to the bluetooth projector to trace your image. After they'll do a whole introductory tutorial to teach you how to use the tufting gun and you'll be able to practice before going in on your rug. Don't worry too much about messing up because it's pretty forgiving and you build confidence as you go. If you're really set on a design with specific colors, it doesn't hurt to let them know beforehand to make sure they have enough yarn in stock. Also side note but they don't use the industrial strength backing glue here because it's toxic especially in such a small space, which is fine because I don't expect my rug to be purposed for a lot of traffic. Our rugs turned out great and they're holding up fine so far. They love pets! I brought my dog and they welcomed him and even offered to help take care of him while I'm busy. They set up the workshop prior to our arrival to accommodate more space for him to be around us, since there were others in our session as well. Good music is playing (keshi, lo-fi, etc.) They also made us milk tea ft. Tutu and his carrots he loved - read their story on how they got here to know. They have plenty of drinks and snacks but you'll most likely be in the zone. I believe you can also bring your own. It takes approximately 5 hours for a medium rug. Honestly we ended up staying over an hour past closing since we were each doing our own rug. Others booked the couple's special and were working together on one rug - so that's also a great option if you don't mind sharing the experience and want a more affordable option. I felt so bad, but they were so nice about it and Phoebe still helped with shaving/trimming our rugs. We still have to detail it more on our own to make it perfect. She let us know all the tips and tricks. They helped us out so much. Come check out this cute studio and support these artist turned business owners. It's a hard world out there, and we got to learn about the art industry as we stayed and chatted. Really enjoyed their company and hanging out. This was such a memorable and fun workshop. It can also be v therapeutic (if you're not rushing haha). Thanks so much for the birthday chocolates btw!

Parking was easy in a nearby lot and the store itself is charming with a variety of craft supplies including quilting fabric, needlepoint, watercolor kits, washi tape, and even finished handmade goods available for sale. When I walked in, initially I did not see anyone at the register/desk, so I browsed up front. Eventually, I spotted an employee at the register but they didn't greet me or acknowledge me which was definitely off-putting. Customer service is everything. The fabric selection was nice though I found the online selection more enticing. Everything was of very high quality. I ended up leaving with just a roll of washi tape. Overall, cute store and worth checking out for the variety, but I wish the welcome had matched the charm of the space.
