It's been a year since I last did tufting! When I was at the mall last weekend, I checked out this store and found out they offer a variety of projects, including tufting, pouring art, and decoden art. The staff walked me through the tufting process and showed me examples of how to tuft properly and efficiently. I even carried a can of Diet Coke to the session as inspiration for my mini rug. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and they helped trim and flatten the rug at the end. I also got to make a picture frame using decoden art - picking out my favorite charms and decorating the frame one by one. As you can tell, I chose food- and toy-themed charms to reflect my hobbies. It's such a great idea for date nights, birthday parties, team-building events, or family activities. Especially if you've never tried it before, it's easy to pick up and a lot of fun! read more

Our rugs and decoden picture frames turned out great, but the store gets very busy and that is the main reason I rated 3 stars. It took us some time to learn how to use the tufting guns properly and it felt like they were understaffed. It would've been nice to have more guidance throughout the process, like if we had any questions we had to wait a very long time for a staff member to be available to help. The seating for tufting is also very close together and it can get a little cramped. But as I mentioned earlier, we were very happy with our finished rugs. After we finished tufting, it took them about an hour to finish them off and we were able to take them home the same day. We also did decoden, which was fun! I was impressed by the charm collection, but it was very hard to find letter charms since they were all mixed up and scarce. Overall, the crafts turned out great, just disappointed by the service. I understand that it was a weekend evening and it wasn't the staff's fault, they were all very kind and understanding. Just understaffed! With tufting especially, having more staff available to help throughout the process if needed would make this experience much more enjoyable. read more

Oh boy. If you're gonna come here, you gotta make sure you come early because they host large parties and it gets packed! Not ideal because the stations for rug making are not spaced out enough to accommodate multiple parties of 2-3 going at once if you are seated where people can sit behind you. The people at the end don't have to worry about getting too close to someone tufting behind them the way we did. We came in early for a 10 am and spent our first hour in there alone. Once other parties showed up, it was crowded. Workers had to place projectors at odd angles so that the new parties could trace their work while those already working could continue their rugs. We did not find instruction to be the best. It honestly felt like we were bothering the workers by being there and they seemed annoyed when we needed things like scissors. Trust me that we wouldnt have bothered them if they had just told us where we could find it all ourselves. They also didnt share that the rug itself if made from them shaving down the threads. So the side you stitch isnt the final product. We figured this out on our own and we were glad we did because it let us relax from thinking our lines had to be perfect. A tip I have to share is to outline the things you want to stand out. Otherwise, the threads will blend together. I held the gun a little too hard and it was sore by the time we were done. It was a bit hectic by then so we had to wait a while for someone to take our rug to shave it down. This is also something super important to consider. If you come when it's busy, itll take them longer to shave your rug down. It took them 30 min for ours so we walked around the mall while we waited but when we came back, the pile of rugs waiting to get picked up and shaved had grown from 2-4 to a stacked pile of at least 3 ft. We got lucky that we spent our first hour of our three hour session there nearly alone. We did medium sized rugs. There is a holding fee of about $45 and then I think I paid about $200 in store. It would be nice if the rug held up better but that might be better left to professionals. This is more novelty and I don't think I recommend actually using it. It sheds a lot when you do and even more when you wash it. Overall, I do recommend this experience. It was fun and you do get a cute rug as a souvenir of the experience. read more

My friend and I had a lot of fun with our first rug tufting experience! Big shout out to the patient staff who showed us the ropes and let us practice before diving into our projects. The idea is easy: select your rug size, pick a design, grab yarn, and start tufting! The execution is the hardest part! It took us awhile to get used to using the tufting gun, but it got easier with practice. This requires some serious grip strength, though! My hands ached afterwards. It also takes time...hours! I was debating if I should give them two stars or three stars. And I'm giving them three stars because I honestly think the workers wanted to do their best, but because they were so short-staffed they were unable to give the service that was needed. So that's on management. Hire more people please. They were very friendly. But because they were so spread thin, they were unable to give people the attention they needed. This was my very first time experiencing tufting and I was always so excited about it. I have passed by this place many times knowing I wanted to try this one day. So since it was my friend's birthday, I wanted to take her for a special treat. First off, although she was very friendly, the girl who gave us our training literally admitted to us that she has never actually done a tufting piece before. Okay, so you're training me on something you've never done before. Interesting? When we started, I followed the directions. I did not go downwards which I was informed would cause a hole in my canvas. But immediately upon my first punch, big hole. Right in the middle. And when I tried to ask for help, they asked me to continue to work around the hole. Which I did. I can never figure out why it was so difficult for me when I managed to do this at the training station just fine. My friend next to me who apparently knew what she was doing because her project came out just fine. Told me just apply more pressure. Which I did which seemed to cause even more holes. So I kind of just started winging it at that point. Getting lucky here and there that are my canvas would take a little bit of yarn once in awhile. And after 3 hours in, all I can think about was getting this project over with because I was not having a good time. Nothing was working for me and it was hard to ask anybody for help because everybody was so unavailable that worked there. So once she made it back to me, she told me to make a patch in the lower right hand corner. Which I tried to, but that also started to make holes. So my friend next to me who successfully managed to finish her project asked me if I needed help. I gave up and said yes please. She proceeded to try to make the patch in the corner but she also was having problems on my canvas. At that point in time, I knew something must be wrong. I touched my canvas and it turned out that my canvas was far looser than the rest of my friend's canvases. So in other words, I was set up for failure. I had a really really loose canvas and really had absolutely no chance of creating the cute little rug that I was anticipating I would be walking out with. And although they didn't charge me for my rug, it felt like I was practically having to convince them that they shouldn't charge me because I was completely set up for failure. With no help at all. I'm glad in the end that they did the right thing. I'm going to give them a little bit of Grace because I know that they're a little a bit young, the people that work there. And I'm sure they were just trying to do the right thing and we're concerned about management getting on them. So now I'm going to say this, management, get it together. Hire new people. Give them proper training. Give them the opportunity to make the right decisions. Give them the opportunity to have time in their day to help people out when they need it. And have a manager on site. When I had mentioned that I felt like I shouldn't be charged for that, the individual said he would have to call his manager. I had already been waiting there for as long as we had because they allowed some rude lady to cut right in front of me. And I know they were just trying to do the right thing. Will I ever come back again? Absolutely not. When I checked online to find out how much a tufting gun was, it was literally almost the exact same price of doing a small rug with all of the essentials you need to do your own at home. So absolutely not. I will be doing this again on my own if I ever want to try it again. But with us turned off as I was, I probably will not. It's unfortunate that this experience that I was so excited about ended up being something that's just a failed memory for me. We did the rug tufting experience and overall it was a fun and creative activity, especially for family time. It's a unique, hands-on experience and a great way to spend time together. The staff initially set us up and explained the process, but because it was a very busy time, we unfortunately didn't receive much assistance after that. There were no check-ins, and when one of the rugs tore during the process, it took quite a while to get help. Given the price point, more hands-on support throughout the session would have really added value especially for first timers. We also weren't informed ahead of time that the rug wouldn't be available for pickup until the next day, which would've been helpful to know in advance. Overall, the experience itself was enjoyable and something we'd love to do again during a less busy time. Really enjoyed rug tufting here! This review is only for rug tufting Had the most fun learning about rug tufting! Even if you aren't crafty, the staff make this super easy to pick up. You start off with a lesson and then you can work on your own. We were beginners and I'd highly recommend starting with a small design because the machine is very heavy and we were super tired by the end of it, haha When we came, there was a large group there, so the staff were pretty busy. Even though we got a private intro tutorial, we didn't get much help during the process, which is why I'm rating my experience 4 stars. First time to try this place last night. We didn't have time for tufting, so we decided to try the other crafts. Me and my kid tried the Pouring Art. While our friends tried the Decoden Art. We only did walk-in, but it's best to do reservations for tufting. It can get busy. It's our first time to try pouring paint art. It was fun. We paid $15 per keychain (plus tip). There are bigger size options, but it's best to try first time with smaller ones until you get the technique. It's simple (but challenging enough) activity. The staff give you instructions at the beginning. They are helpful when you need assistance. They have a good variety of paint colors to choose from. They also provide disposable apron and gloves. It can get a little messy, so be careful what you're wearing when you go there. My first attempt was not the best, but it was fun. It's the mixing of the marble colors that needs getting used to. Some of the paint bottles have tried up tips so it's hard to control the paint sometimes. Hoping to try on more time with better control over the paint. The Decoden Art looks fun too. They have lots of charm choices! Would definitely want to try that another time too. For pouring you have to go back another day to pick up the item because they need at least one day for drying. For pouring, you can take it home already but need extra 2 days to fully dry. They have a private bathroom at the place, but it will seem messy with paint splashes. Avoid coming on a weekend, even with a reservation. We had a reservation for 2:30 on a Saturday, but we had to wait a while to check in and to get seated whenever spots opened up. After getting seated, we went through the tutorial which was helpful but didn't allow much time for practicing and didn't actually start working on our rugs until 4:00. They were really understaffed and unorganized with how busy it was and they ran out of popular yarn colors like white. The tufting gun I was using also had issues and wasn't working properly. Initially, I thought it was user error, but when I tried my boyfriend's tufting gun after he was done, it worked fine. This was frustrating because it affected the quality of my rug. Given the price of the experience, I didn't feel like it was worth it. I debated on posting a review for a while. I have mixed feelings about whether my experience was worth what was paid. Overall, I did have fun and tried a new activity that was enjoyable, but there were little things that made my experience a bit challenging and the overall product of my tufted rug was not what I had expected. I went on a Monday so it wasn't too busy. There were 2 other people in the studio during the time, but it took a while for us to get situated. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and asked us what size we wanted and if we had a preference where we sat. Immediately we noticed there was a challenge posed when trying to get the projector to work. Essentially, you connect your phone to a projector so you can project the image you want to make tufted and trace it onto the canvas. The projectors they have are pretty useless and were difficult to zoom in and out of. We had to push the projector back so far it was taking up the space of the person behind me. Thankfully, there was nobody sitting behind me at the time but I was thinking if someone was, it would be impossible to get the projector to the correct size of the canvas to trace. That process of trying to get the size correct also took way too long. After we got that situated, they gave us a quick crash course on how to use the gun. It was really helpful and I felt like we needed that, since we were beginners. After that we were free to begin tufting. The staff walked around and were super helpful and willing to help if you asked questions. The process takes a long time and is pretty messy, as yarn is constantly being cut and falling down. We did the medium sized rug and it was confusing at first how many times we should go over one section. After we were done, we were told they would cut our rugs and shave it down and it would be ready in about 30 minutes. When we got back, I noticed the design of my rug was messed up. I had attempted to create a cat and (I'm guessing the ears were too small) so they were cut off. I was shown the rug when I picked it up and immediately said "the ears are cut off" and the employee just said "oh". I just ignored it after that because there was nothing that could be done, it was already cut off. My rug is not a masterpiece whatsoever, but for my first attempt I was proud of what I had created and now it is nothing like I intended. I had even told the staff member before I finished that my design was a cat on top of a monstera so I was shocked that they didn't think there would be ears associated with the design. I know the ears on the cat are pretty small, but I feel like given the fact that I mentioned what my design was, the ears were pretty noticeable? I was really disappointed about the ears being cut off of my rug. In addition, I noticed when I picked up the rug that there were frailing yarn pieces that were coming off the edges that were cut. I was ripping them off but wasn't sure if that was supposed to happen or if I should have even done that. Especially for the price that was paid, I don't know if the yarn should have so easily come off like that. All in all, the price was over $100. Their website shows the price of each size rug. I think it was a fun experience but debate whether this specific institution and location was worth that. I am still disappointed about the ears being cut off my cat. I think this is a really fun activity to do alone with some music in or with a friend, but I would honestly go to a different place to make a tufted rug. Especially with this location being in a mall, I can't imagine how busy it would get on weekends which would cut into the enjoyability. My daughter had a reservation with a few friends at 3, and got there about 15 minutes early. After being instructed to write down the objects they wanted to decorate, they were left to wait at the counter for about 20 minutes, which is understandable being that the girls were early. However, after being led to the decoden art section, they were left on their own without instruction. The creams were short in options and some were dry, but the charm options were plentiful. My daughter requested to deco a photo frame and instead received one much smaller in size due to the regular one being out of stock, and still had to pay full price. My friend and I had a reservation for two small (17x17) rugs for 11 AM on Saturday. We decided to do this because it was something unique and was long enough (they say it takes 2-3 hours to make a small rug) for a friend's night out. It was initially not crowded (only 4 other people). However, as soon as it hit 11:30 AM, it was super chaotic and crowded and we had not taken the tufting class yet. They did not have enough supplies necessary for the amount of people that came in. Even though we were an 11 AM reservation, we did not start till much later. The employee decided to teach a group that came after us how to tuft and told us to trace our picture while we waited. Since my friend had a lightning cable, she had to wait for one to come available. So I was the only one who was tracing (since I had a USB-C). Unfortunately, the people behind us decided to take a time lapse of their rug (a whole tripod set up), which kept moving my projector (and my friend's projector when she finally was given a projector for her to use). While this is not the fault of the company, I would say that having space in between the working stations are necessary to have guests have a more comfortable experience. Personally, I also felt that we did not have enough time to practice. It was quite difficult learning how to use the tufting gun and I would have appreciated a bit more guidance/time to feel comfortable. The class we were given was less than 10 minutes with just me and my friend. We had to ask when our turn would be to take the class. While we were making our own rug, no one checked in on us after teaching us how to use the tufting gun. It took my friend and I four and half hours to make the rug, which was longer than we expected (since it was advertised that it would only take 2-3). We had to flag down a worker after we finished. I will say that I really appreciated that they checked if there were any imperfections they felt and where to fix it before they took it to place a backing on it. Furthermore, you end up paying around $85.12 (price of 1 rug + sales tax) + tip. I made a reservation online, so I paid a deposit of $43.65 and when I was paying, they removed $40 off of the total. It is quite an expensive DIY project, but it can be very rewarding. The day we went was again super crowded, so we were told that to put the backing on our rugs would take longer than expected. We were told to come back after an hour. They don't have a system where you can be told when it was ready and you also have to pick your design from a pile that is already done. It would be great if there was a way to be texted/called when our specific piece was done. It was definitely a difficult and challenging experience, but it was fun and rewarding. This is definitely something I could see myself doing again. However, this location would definitely need to address all the issues mentioned above before I could come back. If you still plan on going, I HIGHLY recommend coming on a weekday rather than a weekend. Having the space to create your rug without it being chaotic and crowded would definitely make your experience a lot better than ours. read more

My partner and I were walking around Valley Fair after grabbing a bite to eat and I spotted this store just as we were about to head back to our car. I was so excited seeing Tutugether as I've watched so many various tufting videos online and have always wanted to try it out without committing to purchasing all of the tools and yarns! There's tons of tables full of tufting machines, canvases, and a wall that's filled with different colored rolls of yarn. To the left of the store, there's painting + decorating stations. We made the decision to tuft two small-sized (17in x 17in) rugs, which were priced at $78 each. It is a bit on the pricy side, but I think that it's worth it due to how much is accessible. You're allowed to grab and use as much yarn as you want from the walls! There's even baskets located beneath the wall so that you can gather what you need without overloading your arms. Before starting our rugs, the workers provided us with a tutorial on how to safely use the tufting guns and allowed us to test it out until we felt comfortable with working on our own. They rolled out mini projectors for us to connect our phones and display our images on the canvas, which we then trace on our own. The workers were very helpful and often checked in on how we were doing with our rugs, which was super thoughtful of them. They were also patient with all of the questions we had. At the end of our projects, the workers take the canvases to the back of the store to clean, trim, and place carpet backings on. Using the gun can be tiring on the arms but the experience was worthwhile! My partner and I ended up coming back for a free, second session as we came a bit late the first day and didn't finish. Since then, I've been recommending everybody I know to try tufting. I'm ready to go back when a larger sized rug fits in my budget! read more

I am commenting specifically about 'Decoden' (decorating things with charms) and not Tufting. We first went on September 21, 2024. There were so many charms, good cream glue, and their staff provided clear instructions. They kept our projects for a couple of hours to dry. I would have given it a 4.5-star rating based on that visit. My kids (elementary school age) had such a great time that we decided to host a small birthday party there this past weekend (the first weekend of 2025). It's only been 3.5 months, but things have gone downhill. The clips aren't as nice, and there were maybe 1/4 as many charms as we saw last time (the selection was not great). Barely any of the cream glue worked (it was all dried up and chalky--my kids joked that it looked like kinetic sand). There weren't enough staff to assist. Only two staff members for the entire space, including the Tufting area, which might have been fine if the supplies were actually working, but not when kids were just waiting for us to figure out which cream glue worked. And for the ones that did work, we had to make sure they weren't squirting--I'm not sure what the problem was with the consistency. The projects weren't properly dried before sending us off with them, so most of them started smudging before we even left the mall. It was embarrassing. My kid was looking forward to her small party with her close friends, and we don't even live in the area, so I dragged these families there only to end up with such an experience. Came here on a Monday evening as a team building event and we had a ton of fun. It was really easy to get started and the staff was super helpful. We spent about 3 hours working on Medium sized rugs (17" x 17") and I would have liked to spend a little more time on mine -- but most of my team was done with theirs in that time frame. The one thing that I'm pretty upset about is the photo release agreement nestled in the liability agreement. In it, you agree to allow the company to use any photo of you that they take, forever, across any medium, for any reason, including commercial purposes. I am totally uncomfortable with signing away my rights over my image for any use, without my consent. I would have liked a way to opt out of that clause, or to print out the contract agreement to cross it out. I'd love to give them 5 stars, but can't while this agreement is in place. read more

We thought this would be a fun new thing to try out for my birthday and it was a huge let down. First, it would have been cheaper to buy a tufting gun and all the supplies on Amazon than go to this place and you would get the same amount of instructions and a much more relaxed experience. So that's my recommendation and here is why. We had an appointment at 3pm. They were overbooked and then let walk-ins go ahead of us by accident. So we didn't start until after 4pm. So right away, it wasn't a good start. The so-called instructions were a five minute explanation about how to use the tufting gun. Then they told us we could practice but nine people were trying to do this with one station so we gave up eventually and used the outer part of our canvas once we were set up. During the session no one was ever around for questions or to check on how you were doing. Any time I did talk to anyone they were overly negative and rude. It was so packed that using the projector for our images was impossible until the people at the station behind us were finished. Trying to get the colors you wanted was a challenge as the spools of yarn were not full enough to use on many of them. There was nowhere to put anything so threading the gun was difficult to do safely and the yarn was on the floor getting knocked over repeatedly which messed with the tension. The place was a complete mess with yarn everywhere and not picked up between customers. The canvas is stretched for you on boards with those nail strips that you use when laying carpet so sharp points stuck out. We all got cut multiple times on it as the covers were coming off and no one warned us to watch for it in the first place. On more than one occasion the trigger on the gun got stuck which is dangerous. When we finally finished, they then told us it would be 45 minutes to wait for them to finish the back of the rug. Which was not made clear up front. The activity itself was fun and different. Everyone in our group is a crafter so it's always a good time when we get together to create something. I mention this as we have all mastered some type of craft in our lives so acknowledge something new is hard to learn so we expected that, but the gun is heavy and we all left exhausted and in pain from the five hours it took to make our rug (we were quoted 3 at max). I would do tufting again in the future now that I'm aware of what is involved and mostly got the hang of it. However, I would never return to this location. Unfortunately my friend has to go back to finish hers as she wasn't able to. We regretted not getting the small rug. Should you decide to take a risk and go, get the small rug to start and go during the week in the morning. They informed us it wasn't as busy then. read more

WHAT A SCAM!!! Stay away from this place!! We booked a birthday party from these guys on their website. While their site did not say anything other than the deposit - none, nothing about the total cost and additional package cost in the page nor the confirmation email. They charges hundreds of dollars more on the spot when we were there having the party! You know what's the worst part of all this? We went to confirm the cost in person prior to the party - the owner/manager (the Singaporean guy) double confirmed there were NO additional cost other than the deposit. Guess what - we were in for a huge surprise!! Guys - listen to me - don't get tricked into having your event at this place. Go to a place that's clear and honest about their cost. Very overpriced, they only list prices in the store. They are understaffed so we waited an hour after we got there before we started tufting. Got a short but helpful instruction session before starting. Nobody was around to help during the tufting. After we finished they told us to come back in 2hrs to pick up the rugs. We were not aware of this before beginning our rugs and it was very time consuming. read more

If you want to go for decoden, don't do it. Seems that they're really only focusing on tufting as a business. The staff were nice and did what they could but the silicone "cream" they have is either so old it's cured in the bag and unusable, or so liquid that it can't hold it's shape and just pools everywhere/flows off. The situation is so bad that even the staff are aware of it for awhile now, but management won't do anything about it. For the price you pay you'd think the quality of base materials would be nicer too. The photo frames ($38) and hair clamps ($19) look as if they were bought from the dollar store. This place is cool and a fun idea but the staff sucks. My husband was at a convention so my daughter and I had time to kill so we came in for rug tufting. We had seen this the day before when bowling, I walked in and asked how to book and was directed to their Instagram page. Booking was easy, we booked first thing on Sunday morning. It was empty when we were there, just us and 2 staff members but they barely helped us. They set up the screen to trace and then showed us how to work the gun and that's it. I had to call them over twice when there was an issue with the gun, they never checked on us, offered us tips, nothing. When we were done I called one over and she pointed out several areas I messed up that were not going to look good, which would have been helpful if I hadn't already been there for almost 3 hours. They acted like I was suppose to know what I was doing and were mostly on their cell phones the whole time. I think for a craft place like this you definitely need to be more hands on and helpful to customers read more

Great place to watch Katherine pour a bear. A little on the expensive side, but service was good and a fun experience.
