My first time trying pottery painting and definitely won't be my last! My friend and I booked a last minute reservation in dec 2025. We actually ended up booking their candle experience by accident (which happens often apparently) but they were super accommodating and said we could still grab a table! We went on a Monday night and our pieces were ready to pickup by Sunday night. The whole process was fun, lots of cute colors to pick from and had a wide range of pottery you could paint. I will say they are pretty busy (was surprisingly packed on a Monday night) so it was hard to find someone who worked there if I had a question. My only complaint would be because it was my first time I wished I was told more information about the whole process. The girl helping us was sweet, set a few items down and told us to pick a piece and wave her down after. But after we did, she was very busy and didn't see her for a while so ended up just getting paints and supplies ourselves. Overall has a great experience! I ended up picking up on the following Monday and in love with it! Decently priced, $15 for painting + however much your piece was, mine coming out to ~$50. Came out so much better than I was expecting. Located in a very good area as well. There's a free parking garage a few stores away or even across the street. Highly recommend and will be coming back again,

Super fun! We went here for our friends' birthday party. They gave us some instruction and were on the ball with further help as we worked. There was tons of stuff to choose from for items to paint, and a great selection of tools and colors. Including stamps and stencils, for the less artistically practiced in our group. Because of the holiday we can't pick them up until Saturday, so I do not know how the finished product looks yet, but we had fun and that's the important part. They let the group store the birthday cake, and when we were done we had that and then checked out. The Employees were all super friendly and knowledgeable, and they even painted a birthday plate for the guest of honor. Strongly recommend, I love that these places are still around and so popular. It makes me very happy to see so many people out being creative and putting that energy into the world.

I've been here twice and both visits were wonderful. The customer service was incredibly friendly and helpful. The staff member took the time to carefully explain how everything worked for my friend, who was visiting for the first time, which we really appreciated. The pickup process was also very quick and smooth -- it took less than three minutes. Overall, it's a great place to spend a relaxing day painting and chatting with friends. It would also make a really cute and unique date idea. I highly recommend it!

We've been to Petroglyph twice now! It's a super fun date idea. They have multiple locations (Roseville, SJ, Los Gatos, Santa Cruz). Parking at the Willow Glen location can be limited. You may have to park down a residential side street and walk a bit. But it's never been impossible for an able bodied person. The adult studio fee is $15 per person. That covers the cost of time/paint/support. Unlimited time. You can bring snacks and camp out for a few hours if you'd like. Then you also have the cost of the individual ceramic piece you choose to paint. For example this soup mug was $25. There's a huge variety of pieces to choose from. There are functional pieces like cups or more decorative pieces. Total cost for each person is likely around $40 depending highly on what you choose to paint. You can even choose multiple pieces! The website actually has some ideas like the bubble glaze technique. There are also examples for inspiration (finished pieces) in front of some of the blank pieces. They have a great selection of tools you can use. Many types of brushes, a huge selection of paint and sample tiles (three layers of paint recommended), lace for patterns, sponges, paper clips, pencils for sketching, paint bottles with a very tapered opening for fine control, etc. (If you'd like to do the bubble glaze I'd bring a disposable cup and straw. Use the hand soap by the washing station and add water and paint.) I like that the turnaround time is very quick. They have a sign in the front saying when pieces will be available for pick up. It's less than a 1 week turnaround time. We went on a Saturday and were able to pick up on Thursday. I think this is much quicker than some other closer ceramics studios where the turnaround time for pieces is 3-4 weeks. It's on the pricey side ($90 ish for two people). But it's a fun time and you get to take home a unique piece of art! I think it's worth it. They even take reservations and can do birthday parties for kids. The ceramic food serving ware pieces should be hand washed. Previously I was lazy and threw my bowl in the dishwasher. It's mostly in good condition but has a couple chips after a couple years.

I enjoyed my time when I went to Petroglyph. I have only ever been to one other pottery painting place once before. What I really like about Petroglyph is that there is no time limit for painting your piece; you can't rush art...and indecisiveness haha. You can just walk-in, and they'll get you seated and started if there's space. I recommend that you go in the morning or just after noon to secure a table, and you'll also have more options with the pottery pieces. Some items cleared out by the time we finished. There's a variety of pottery pieces to choose from the wall, all with their own prices (Note: Each person pays a flat studio fee on top of the piece for the material usage). After picking one, you can get started painting it. One thing I wish the workers did was to do an intro and explain the process to us. For example, you need to wipe down the piece with a wet sponge to remove any debris and dust. It also makes it easier to paint on. When painting, you need to do multiple layers for a darker color. If you make a mistake, you can just use a wet sponge to wipe off the area and start again. These were notes I remembered from my visit to the other place, so I wish they provided these types of tips. They have a station for the paint colors along with other crafting tools. I ended up painting a snack plate. Once you finish your piece, all you need to do is go to the register to turn in your piece and pay. You can pick up the piece after the date and time they give you, and you'll have 30 days to do so from that date. My friend picked up the piece for me, and I loved how it turned out. A pricey experience in my opinion, but you do get the materials provided for you to paint your piece, and it is a fun activity to do with friends at least once. It was worth it this time around, and I'm happy with my plate.

We had so much fun painting, laughing, chatting, and bringing out our inner creative talents at Petroglyph. Adults entrance fee is $15. From there, you choose any ceramic piece you'd like to paint on. Each piece has a price tag on it. You grab any painting tools and paint colors you need to your station and start painting. Once finished, you bring it to the counter and pay for your piece. They give you a pick up date once they finalize the finishing touches. I love the various pieces you can choose from such as pots, plates, cups, ornaments, etc. The entire vibe was fun and stations were clean. I wish there were more paint colors to choose from and the prices were quite high, but I enjoyed the entire experience. It's a great activity for all ages.

My first time here and I had a great experience! The staff here are very helpful. $15 fee to use the studio and supplies with no time limit. Select the item you want to paint which most ranges from $20-$70ish. I think the items are priced way too high!! Small trinket plates are $17 which was the cheapeast thing I saw. I ended up choosing a higher value item since it seemed more worth the price. I selected the country pitcher for $55. We spent about 2.5 hours here. It takes about a week for them to glaze your item and ready for pickup. Parking garage around the corner. Recommend for a fun activity.

Area was big, complete with items needed in making ceramic pretty and the staff are nice too! Enjoyed our stay here!

very fun spot to go to, we came around 5pm on a monday night and stayed the entire time painting. we were told to start cleaning up at 7:45pm. it's nice that they let you bring snacks and drinks in and spend as much time as you want there. the studio fee is $15 for adults plus the price of the piece that you pick. i didn't get to finish mine and i think it's really nice that they let you bring it home and come back another time to finish at no additional cost. they had a variety of pieces, there were also some pieces near the bathroom that wasn't displayed. i wish i knew about this because after we finished painting, i saw some pieces that i was actually looking for to paint but couldn't find in the main store. once you are done painting, you pay for everything and they give you a return date about 4 days after and was told to pickup any time after 6:30pm. i gave them 3 stars cause when i went to pick up one of my friend's pieces, we noticed there was some white spots on her bowl. i think it was due to the store incorrectly holding the pieces and not glazing those parts. this was disappointing since it wasn't our fault it came out like that. not sure they have any policies regarding damage caused from their processing

Absolutely an amazing experience staff absolutely wonderful. They treated my mom with such respect. It was a great place. I totally recommend this for fun event.

Such an amazing experience! Recently came here with a friend and had a fun painting session. The place is nice and clean, there's a variety of brushes and the paint color was nicely organized as well! We both had hard time deciding what to get as there were so many good selection! Do keep in mind the colors will be at least 3 shades darker once they glaze it. Both our total came out to be $40+ which is quite pricey but I was very happy with my plate and I think it's worth it for the fun experience! Highly recommend coming here next time you're feeling crafty!

This is a very big and spacious coffee shop with a lot of natural lightihng, as one side of the shop is mostly windows. The interior is also nicely decorated as well, with ample seating. They have snacks as well as slightly more substantial food, and i remember the drink I got (matcha) tasted alright. The staff are friendly as well, and it's a nice, peaceful place to read or do work if needed. Would recommend !

Ask the Community - Petroglyph Ceramic Lounge

Are there any pots to boil water in to paint?

Hi there, while our items are microwave and dishwasher safe, we do not recommend stove top boiling.

How long do they keep pottery past the date given for pick up?

We have a 30 day Policy. After 30 days, you'll receive 1 reminder phone call allowing 1 more week of an extension.

Does anyone know if there are any matcha bowls available or a bowl with a spout to pour? thanks!

Hi Sara, We don't have any just yet, however those are expected to arrive early 2025!

Hi, has the studio fee changed since last year?

Hi there, we have a studio fee of $14 for adults and $12 for children. I believe our last increase was in 2021.

Do you offer any sort of smoking accessories such as pipes or bongs?

    Yes, we do!

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, Visa, Master Card, Discover and Apple pay

If we don't finish painting our piece, do we have to pay a studio fee to come back and finish painting it?

Absolutely not! Be sure to hold onto your receipt so you can show our staff and they will waive the studio fee for you. We have a work in progress option for anyone who might need more time. :)

Am I able to bring in my own ceramic to paint?

Hi Marissa, unfortunately we do not fire outside items. I would recommend looking into a local business called Higher Fire. They may be able to help you with your own items.

Hi Min, If you'd like to make a reservation, give us a call and we can get you booked. We accept walk ins all hours of the day too! Reservations are generally only needed for larger groups. We hope to see you soon!

What fee do I need to pay to sit there? Do I need to pay for the ceramic that I paint?

Hi Thuy, Our pricing is pretty straight forward. We have a $14 studio fee for adults and $12 for children on top of whatever ceramic items you decide to paint. Our items… Read more

***3.5 stars overall***…read more I took a friend to Color Me Mine for their birthday. This location was convenient but it was really small. I am glad I made a table reservation. (You put a $10 deposit on the table that ends up going towards your final bill.) Because of the long rectangular shape of the store, the staff sit in the middle of the store, so no one greets you when you walk in. Thus, we were a little confused when we entered -- not knowing if we look for our table first or look for a ceramic piece first? Or do we check in somewhere? A greeting from the staff would have solved this. Without leaving their counter, someone briefly and hurriedly explained the process and locations of everything, and left us to begin. Even though I had done this before, it was my first time at this store and it was my friend's first painting pottery ever, and we were both lost, even after her mini tutorial. (I have been to pottery painting places where they walk you to the paint area to get you started, as an example of comparison.) Thankfully I remembered things from previous experiences that the painted ceramic tiles by the paint bottles with 3 squares symbolize what the different layers would look like after firing. (This is critical knowledge that the staff should point out to each group, so we'd understand how each layer of paint looks when dried/fired because sometimes we may want to paint 3 layers of paint, but not always. It was crucial to understand how to reference these tiles!) The paints and brushes were in one corner; the sink and paper towels were around the corner in the back of the store; and there was one main shelf of unpainted pottery choices (with a range of prices, but after adding in your $10 a person sitting fee, the final cost adds up, so be sure you like the piece you choose!) We chose to paint one large piece together rather than 2 smaller pieces. To make the look more cohesive, we chose colors within a certain range (lavenders and yellows/orange), and then we didn't look at the each other's side! It was very fun. **Some Things To Note** - Your table reservation gives you 2 hours. (We finished in that time but we also didn't do a lot of detailed work. I actually think most people would need more time than that if you choose a large ceramic or are painting details.) - The tables are pretty close together, so you don't get much privacy. We all heard each other's conversations. It was also very narrow to walk between the tables when people were painting, so it may not be a place to bring active kids who can't sit still for long periods of time. - It looks like they allow outdoor food because many were bringing their own snacks. I brought in an outside drink, which I'm glad I did because it was warm and you sit there for hours. - They do have a bathroom, if anyone is wondering. - It may take a week for them to get to your ceramic piece, glaze and fire it, but we got a text that it was ready around 4 days after painting it. It is a fun experience to paint pottery, as long as you can afford it and feel comfortable approaching the counter to ask your questions because the staff doesn't seem like they go out of their way to offer help unfortunately.

The pros: The space was bright, colorful, organized and clean. The staff were friendly and informative and didn't mind giving us extra paint when we wanted additional colors. Love that you can just walk right in without reservations. The cons: Wow is this place expensive for what you get. Most of their items that you can paint can easily be found in the dollar section at Target or for less the $5 at Michael's. The cheapest item to paint was $15 and those were very small pieces which can easily be painted in less than 10 minutes. My son chose a wooden snake and I chose a window clings wind chime. Each were $22. I would expect more expensive prices for items like this if maybe you get some special tools or paints to use. You simply get a paper plate with acrylic colors of your choice and paint brushes. I do not feel this is worth the price when I can easily replicate this experience in my own home for less than $10. Overall, the idea is great but they need to make this experience more unique in order for it to be worth the price. For example, there is another craft place in Pleasanton that you can create ceramics that have to go into a kiln for around the same price. That is not something I can replicate in my own home and is therefore worth the price.
