For the past week and a half I've been trying to find either a good used or a new pick guard for my guitar. After buying from two different suppliers and nothing fit or was even workable I just decided to have one made. I brought in the piece that came on my guitar. The guy looked at it and said he could have it ready in a half hour. I selected the thickness and finish, paid them and went out to my car to disappear on the internet for a while. When I came in they said it was ready. I brought it home and it fits perfectly. I don't know why I didn't do this first. read more

I came in for simple questions about types of plastics and I was looking for a clear or possibly a blurred/frosted panel for a window in my shed. I was met by the RUDEST, MOST PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE, AND RUSHED customer service ever. I understand there's bad day but it seemed as if anything I asked was way too much of a task. Shadanna, I believe that was her name.. I still bought the panel and just tried to get out of there asap. This is not a good look on the "Fantastic" plastic place. I came into TAP Plastics hoping to get acrylic signs for my wedding (a welcome sign, guestbook sign, seating chart and signature drink) the next week, I was a little bit stressed because of course I waited until the last minute and didn't know where to start really. I had an idea of the sign holders but I didn't know if I should get the acrylic sheets first or after. Anyways, I went into the store looking a little lost and I believe it was Jeff, the store manager, who helped me. I told him what I needed and the sizes, I was explaining the holders I had seen on Amazon. He asked me to pull it up on my phone, got the dimensions so the sheets would fit perfectly in the groove and went and cut them right then! It was 4 sheets- 2- 18"x 24" and 2- 8"x 10" Jeff came back out with them perfectly cut in like 2 mins, he told me to sand the edges down and explained how to do it. It's amazing to me the tap plastics offers a custom plastic cutting service right in the middle of a vibrant commercial area! Instead of ordering and shipping material from online, this option was way more convenient to get a custom cut piece of acrylic for a birdcage! The service was super friendly, and the transparency and pricing is much appreciated. I also really liked that. They have samples on the floor of all the different options available so that you can compare them and shoes on the ones that fit your needs and budget. if you are looking for an economical way to smooth the edge of your acrylic, I would strongly recommend the route and scrape. If the folks there are not busy, it seems like you can get a reasonable size piece of acrylic cut within less than an hour, sometimes in as little as a few minutes. Rudy at TAP Plastics in San Jose is the BEST! He's knowledgeable and ready to help you with whatever you need (SO helpful)! I ended up at TAP to frame an oddly shaped picture (38 x 10). I had JUST been told it would cost $575 + change at the local arts & crafts store, using "museum quality" acrylic. That is to say, the odd shape of the picture would cause me to have to pay for the entire sheet of "museum quality acrylic" for upward of $654. So, i ran over to TAP Plastics, the old stand-by. TAP uses polycarbonate. Polycarbonate can resist ultraviolet rays, heat, cold, and water damage. It's also used for "bullet-proof glass." It is 250 x impact resistant than glass; "museum quality acrylic" is a mear 17 x resistant. I paid around $20 at TAP. By the time I left the store, with Rudy's help, I had put the sheet into the frame, replaced the frame screws, and was on my way in about 18 minutes, and CRAZY happy. I highly recommend this store. I came here a couple of times to get materials for school projects and the staff was always so nice and helpful. The store is super clean and organized. They cut the materials to size and the cut was always good and precise! Only today when I came to get my ABS sheets cut I was helped by a young lady (Mariah I think) that was a little rude and not helpful, but the technician guy there was extremely nice and helped me out with my stuff. Everything came out good and I had to ask him to cut it again because I told him the wrong sizes. He did not even charge me for the recutting fees and I really appreciate that! Will always come back to this store in the future to get more materials, but I hope they train that young lady on how to talk to customer and assist them nicely. read more

What do you do when the vendor no longer makes a rack mount kit for your dated mixer? You go to TAP Plastics for a solution! I have a flight case that weighs in at +50 lbs with current mixer mount. This means I have to pay extra fees to fly with it. I was planning to fly with it in less than a week. I wasn't expecting a solution so soon then BAM! A fabricated solution same day! At least six pounds saved! Special shout out to Lito, expert fabricator! I showed him my flight case and how the mixer is mounted. He took a few measurements. A few hours later a well-fitting, sturdy custom rack mount kit was created. Lito is very knowledgeable, detailed, and easy to work with. I needed some clear plastic sheets for my art show and I already knew it wasn't going to be cheap. I also knew that I had NO KNOWLEDGE about plastic so I definitely needed some help. I've known about TAP Plastics for years. Being an art student, it's always a good idea to have a list of places that sell different material so you know exactly where to go. The first time I came to TAP was when I needed a 2x2 clear plastic sheet to use as a "slide in" window for a wooden box that I made. The guys who helped me out were really helpful and told me the prices for all the different types of plastic material before I even showed the my box. Once I showed them exactly what I was looking for, they cut up the little 2x2 piece and just let me have it for free! I'm guessing it was because it was so small. The second time I came here, I needed a small plastic cylinder for another project. I wasn't looking for anything super durable or fancy; just something that would be able to have 80lb card stock wrapped around it and wouldn't completely break if I happened to drop it. The guys again were able to show me the different plastic cylinders with different diameters and it only cost me. And since I only needed 1 that was about 3in long, I believe I was only charged $10. (Not too sure on the pricing: this was about 3 years ago). So more recently, I had a big art show. But unlike most photos, mine weren't hanging on a wall; they were placed on pedestals. I didn't want to use picture frames for a specific reason so I opted to use plastic sheets; which were SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN BUYING FRAMES. The only thing was, I had no idea how much it would be since I needed 5 and the size would have to be cut. Before I went to the shop, I emailed them and was contacted by Carol. She was very nice and helpful with letting me know that it would be cut to order and it wouldn't take long. Since I knew they were going to be pricey, I asked about the student discount. I was aware there was one because of some other classmates who have had some materials purchased there. Carol assured me of the discount and had me come in. When I go to the shop, I spoke with Carol and she showed me the different plastic sheets and how much it would cost. She also remembered the student discount I discussed with her earlier that day via email. Once I decided on the sheet I wanted, Carol rung me up and I didn't wait too long for the sheets to be done. I'm glad TAP Plastics is still around. My dad would tell me about it all the time and I had no idea why he would be excited to go there whenever he needed something plastic. These guys work quick and are very friendly. I needed some side panels cut for my computer because thermals were terrible with the original panels that were not vented. I requested slots cut out to let my computer components breathe. I got the panels and everything looks great. Only knocking 1 star because the slots weren't evenly spaced but I can't knock the guys too much because it was all done by hand. The panels fit perfectly and pricing was much more affordable compared to what I was quoted from other places. Not to mention I only had to wait half an hour for 2 panels! read more

They only allow one person at a time "inside" the store. So I spent about 20 minutes waiting outside in a part of San Jose where day-drinking homeless guys were wandering around yelling at people who weren't there. They had sign outside that said the door was closed because of the air conditions, it was extremely smoky today. But it was OK to make me wait in that for 20 minutes. When it was finally my turn to come "inside," I discovered that actually they had a little pen set up just inside the door, and I would not be allowed to come inside to browse. Also, they no longer sell scrap plastic from a scrap bin for some reason. But that was one of the three things I came for, since they've always sold scrap plastic from a scrap plastic bin in the past. I needed a hobby box, asked to see some, the guy "helping" me asked what size, I said "for a raspberry pi," he didn't know how big those are, OK, so I held up my fingers to show him. He walks into the store about 40-50 feet, and holds up a box and says "How about this?" I told him I couldn't tell if it was the right size at that distance due to Perspective/Parallax, and he gets huffy and says something about my "attitude." I said I didn't really appreciate all the changes to the store, and then some guy who I assume is the manager or above comes out and starts lecturing me about Covid19. Well, we've all been living with this Covid19 thing for half a year already, and I know the difference between "20% of the maximum occupancy allowed in the store" and "Nobody is allowed in the store at all." While everybody else has been slowly and carefully opening up after a LONG period of slowdown or shutdown, these yahoos are acting like it's still April. This has effectively become a mail-order shop with limited Will-Call service. And their attitude sucks. The manager type was so rude he managed to provoke me to the point of calling him the "A word" and telling him to go "F" himself. From now on, if I can't find the plastic I need at the big box hardware store I'll either go mail order or just use MDF instead, since it's cheaper and easier to work with. Normally I like to support local businesses even if they charge a bit more, but in the case of Tap plastics, I seriously believe that you will be better off buying your plastics from a different mail-order shop that is more customer-service oriented.
