Haven't been here since 2016 when my cousin and I came back from a family trip in Japan and he was more into Japanese animated figurines, toys, murals, posters, plushies, posters, prints and much more. He's totally obsessed when it comes to Godzilla and samurai warriors the only drawback are the steep prices, but every now and then he would come across a bargain or two. I wasn't that lucky but I was very impressed by the amount of collectible toys oversize stuffed plushies and they have a huge glass display of animated cartoon models e.g Tony the Tiger, Garfield the cat, Yogi Bear and much much more. Zonkey is one amazing toy shop with so many merchandise to choose from they even have claw machines as well one can spend a great deal a time. Was in Japantown San Jose recently and checked out Zonkey at the corner of Jackson St and 4th. The store can be easy to miss but look for a Zonkey A-Frame on the sidewalk in front of the entrance. It's a small shop but packed with a lot of great items. There's a whole shelf filled with popular blind boxes and some nostalgic Garbage Pail Kids toys. They also sell a lot of vinyl stickers, keychains, and prints, some anime too. There was this really cool 3D Attack of Titan 12x18 print that we picked up. Their prices were on par with other comic book stores that sell these items. For the amount of space available, they really did a good job organizing and displaying everything. The anime books were on the bottom shelves with other goods on top. There are quite a few Hello Kitty items as well. Some of their custom printed T-shirts were really cool but unfortunately no youth sizes available. Service was good. The employee was helpful when we were asking about different T-shirts and blind boxes. read more

We stopped by Zonkey during the Halloween event in J-Town. Definitely recommend checking it out. A ton of throw back toys and stuff from the 80s. The shop is packed with feel-good nostalgia. Bought my kids some toys and a couple of t-shirts. The staff there was super chill and welcoming. read more

Plant store and collectibles all in one store? Super neat! They have a good variety of plants inside. Pothos, hoyas, etc. I was super tempted to buy a bulbasaur planter as well... Lots of entertaining items to look at! A little bit of sensory overload. The prices can be pretty steep... but the variety is definitely there and they have some fairly rare items to offer. Gee, I thought Zonkey referred to the progeny of a drunk zebra and an open-minded donkey, the regretful outcome of a cheap one-night stand in the Serengeti. But I guess I was wrong as it refers to this combo toy and plant store in San Jose's J-Town. Actually the plant section has its own name, Plant Theory, and consists of tiny plants displayed on a couple of shelves at the front window. The rest of the store is a hodgepodge of J-Pop iconography, Godzilla-inspired action figures, and any other head-scratching merch you'd find in a typical Ginza toy shop. And yes, of course they have maneki-neko, which are those cat statues with the waving arms. I dare you to come here and not smile. When visiting Japantown over the holidays, we stumbled across this shop and I couldn't be more happy with my experience. What a neat store! Lots of different fun fandom items, a ridiculous amount of beautiful plants, and wonderful customer service. They are resident plant lady was amazing and had fantastic advice about all the plants in the store and plants we had at home! Absolutely fantastic. Even told us how we could transfer our 10 year old bamboo stocks that have been sitting in water that entire time. I was beyond thrilled. Plus all the cool Funko Pop items, a whole display of Gremlins memorabilia, beautiful Japanese prints from local artists, and just fun decor everywhere. I will definitely be visiting this shop the next time we are around. And I highly suggest anyone else go as well. It may not be your cup of tea, but it will definitely be a fun experience. read more

Been coming here whenever we are in the Japantown neighborhood. The store is always fun to checkout. If ur looking for funko items. This is the shop to go. Dolls for boys errr aka action figures, they got it here. Pins galore and pop icon candles...find it here! They got books, t-shirts and photo prints of local artists sold here to. They are niw in a bigger location by 4th street and Jackson(?) which is a bigger space than the other one. I would have missed it if I was not looking for free street parking within the vicinity. The clerk was nice and chatted a bit. One of my wards was asking if they have a kirby merchandise but unfortunately does not at the moment. Well I'm not really a toy shop adventurer, and I don't really care about collectibles or pins. I was on a date in Japantown, and we were checking out the small businesses. We had just stopped by Sinceretea for their grand opening, and popped into Zonkey before going to dinner. They certainly have a lot of collectibles, and if I cared about that, I'd love this place even more. As it stands, though, I really just enjoyed the customer service and the neatness of the store. The employees here seem mostly knowledgeable in and passionate about their products. I had been here once before, with an ex boyfriend, to buy some misfortune cats. They were incredibly cute, and I went in looking for them again, but unfortunately they weren't there. I guess some might see it as a plus that their inventory is always changing. If you like weird, if you like high quality collectibles, if you like buying things you don't really need, stop by Zonkey. read more

I was excited to take my son here yesterday as they have plants for me and toys/anime for him. We arrived at 3:40ish and noticed 3 people standing in line. Standing outside through the window, we can see this corner shop is actually quite tiny! It's small and has both plants and funky and toys! My 10yr old is a huge anime fan and was peeking through the window "shopping" and telling me very excitedly about the various figures he wants to consider adding to his collection! At 4:12, we were next up in line standing right at the entrance of the door. We can see the 3 people that was waiting in line we're roaming around. My son was already mapping in his head and debating which items he can bring home (I limited him to 2 items) out of a few that he was already thinking mommy's gonna making it rain - smh. Then BAM...the guy working here came up to us and said he hasn't eaten lunch all day and will NOT be taking anyone else in and that he's closing the store to go eat lunch! He said after 20 minutes (time for the few shoppers), if we can come back in 30 minutes or so he'll reopen. Seriously! My son was so very disappointed!!! Ummm you really couldn't tell us that when you took the lady right before us in??? I mean we've been standing outside for just over 30 minutes!! Then I have to break the news to the 3 people behind me? Why can't you come tell everyone standing in line to spend money at your establishment as a simple professional courtesy? I get it you have to eat! I would be HANGRY too if I didn't eat all day! But simple courtesy would be nice to inform your patrons and not just the one up next but to all of the ones standing there! Lucky for the 3 behind us - they were together and had only been there 10 mins or so! We were there for 30 minutes!!! read more

Workers were rude and uninviting. Had no knowledge of the items they were selling. Wasn't regulating the line outside. My bf was stopped upon entering because the max number of people were already inside. Two people left and they didn't let my boyfriend know it was okay to come in. Instead two other people came (not knowing there was a line) and I had to speak up and say that my boyfriend was waiting. The workers didn't know the prices of their merchandise and charged me incorrectly. Had to show them the price marked on the bottom and they fixed it otherwise they were charging me double of what was marked. Overall, had a terrible experience and would not support a small business that operates on ill-mannered values and treating customers unfairly. They also report listings with bad reviews on yelp. If you don't want people leaving bad reviews maybe they should be polite to others. read more

I stumbled upon Zonkey because like most others I picked up a new hobby with indoor plants! I saw that @PlantTheoryCo was doing a pop-up at the toy store from FB Marketplace. At the store everyone is required to wear a mask and only 6 people in the store at a time. They had a beautiful selection of plants and pots. I spent about $50 for a plant and pot. What I loved most about it was that the plants had a label for care instructions. So for an amature for me, you have no idea how helpful it is!! I hope to be back again soon before the pop-up is over. read more

50 for da page: The real estate grew since they relocated from the other side of JTown. Who knew my return since then would be for their pop-up in Plant Theory. The toys/figurines/display models will vary in taste. Personally, I'm over the whole FunkoPop thing but the anime and Godzilla love is still there. They have a lot of local and Japanese-influenced art prints that caught my eye too--just wasn't the time or $ to get them at the moment. Always a fun place to peruse and support especially this time of the year. A big staple for one of my favorite SJ neighborhoods. read more

Be careful going to this place, you go in to buy a gift and you come out with 20 things (for yourself and no gift for that person) not including all the plants you take home because they're perched up all cute- looking at you for some love and care. Seriously though, the workers here are both fun and funny that it's just nice to drop in if you're in the area. I walked into this shop and instantly fell in love! If you're into anime, comics or collectibles let me introduce you to the Disneyland of collectibles! Came here a month ago starting my Bearbrick collection and returned today splurging on over 12 Bearbrick's total packaged in some mystery boxes. Collecting can be a fun hobby but it can get pricey. Not only that but you can get money if you're lucky enough to find an exclusive or rare collective and resell it. You can say I obviously got trigger happy getting one of the exclusive items my first try assuming I could've gotten the second one right after that... I was wrong after multiple attempts but I still left happy with the outcome I left with. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about all vinyl toys and accessories! This is a great little shop for collectibles. They have lots of horror movie props and replicas (many from Trick Or Treat Studios and NECA). Surprised I had never heard of this place until two days ago. I'm a huge toy fan and collector and this is right in the heart of Japan Town? Wow! It's a little on the smaller side, so you might feel a little cramped, but they do offer a wide variety of products. Plenty of Kid Robot and Funko products to be had. Just the way I like it. Just can't get enough of this place. I met the other gentleman who owns the shop this past weekend and darned if I just forgot his name completely - he was still a huge help, though! I cannot speak highly enough of their customer service, selection... just everything.
