Teacher Robin has been wonderful. She is incredibly patient with the kids and does a great job keeping them engaged and focused throughout the session. The progression of the class is also thoughtfully designed, starting from basic tracing and moving to learning how to color properly, stay within the lines, and color in a consistent direction. It is impressive how much the kids pick up in such a short time. We have also had a great experience with the communication and scheduling. Both the office and Robin are very responsive, and everything has been smooth and easy from the start. Overall, it has been a fantastic experience and we are very happy with the class.

The teachers provide personalized guidance and introduce new media along the way. The staff is always helpful and responsive. There is a super easy system for reporting absences and scheduling make up classes. It has been such a positive part of my kids' lives, they didn't just become more skilled artists, but also developed genuine love for art as a way to express themselves.

I first came across this studio on a visit to the bakery next door and was drawn in by the bright…read morecleanliness of the studio. I had just moved back home to the bay area and wanted to continue my pottery journey and take my skills further. I walked in and asked for a tour from the staff on-site and they were very thorough with questions and the walk through! After doing some research on studios in the south bay, I found this one to be the most attractive space in the area. I took a 1.5 skills class (between beginner and intermediate) and am happy to report that I have greatly improved my pottery skills! Prior to taking the class, I was able to throw with some skill and explore shapes. My objective in this class was to throw larger, cleaner, and more confidently. My teacher, Josephine, taught me an alternative method of throwing to what I was used to but I picked up on it quickly and was able to adjust my style to center and throw beyond 2 lbs. This in itself was a win because I have relatively smaller hands that would cramp easily when trying to move larger clay bodies. From the beginning of the class, Josephine clarified the goals of each student to identify the emphasis of our 6-week class. We cut through cylinders, practiced shaping, throwing off the hump, etc. By the halfway point, I was able to pull even cylinders with significantly more weight, setting up success for larger forms. I highly recommend this class and I am very happy with my work :) In the class, I started with Laguna Half and Half, then B-mix. About the studio: The studio is airy and clean. *Emphasis* on clean! Although many students do not have prior experience working in artistic spaces, everyone is respectful and mindful of the community. Meaning, people look after their own messes and clean up their stations, which is much appreciated in a creative community; this was a major factor in my deciding to sign up with this studio. If you take a class, there are long hours of open studio to come in and practice throwing, tools available for potters, and staff on-site to answer questions. If you are a more established potter, there are dedicated wheels for members. Overall, this studio gave me a lot of flexibility to grow my skills in a relatively short amount of time. I was able to reevaluate my throwing methods with an encouraging cohort, in a fantastic space. They also have some great glazes and stains to finish off your pieces with. It's also a plus that this is centrally located in a great part of Cupertino/South Bay. I am looking into more special guest workshops and a membership at this point. I've loved my time here and if you are hopping on the pottery wagon, this is a superb place to be!

There is a slab roller, extruder, and wedging table available for use. They have 16 glazes available. And of course they have a friendly and welcoming staff. :)

DesignX offers fashion design and related illustration, fabric and accessory classes, toy design, and product design. In the fashion class, the kids design and make an their own incredible outfit over the course of a week. The outfits are conceived as part of a collection (with a overarching unified color theme). The kids iterate their design ideas, create and sew their outfit complete with accessories, and present it in an exciting fashion show for their families at the end of the week! Each outfit is unique to each child, but work as part of the collection. As a home sewist, I can tell you that the sewing aspect of the fashion camp is set up for real success for the kids, even as they create unique outfits - the skills are age appropriate and build as they get older. 2nd and 3rd graders create skirts and modify t-shirts; 4th and 5th graders create tunics; 6th and 7th graders create more complex dresses and rompers. My husband and I are both professional designers. The design process taught at DesignX is great. The kids work through an iterative process that relates to what designers do in the real world. The fact that they express their personal creativity in real ways but are doing it within an overarching/relational theme speaks to the way designers work in the real world. My older daughter wore her tunic as a cover-up all last summer; I know she'll be wearing her new top with shorts. And my younger daughter will be wearing her skirt as well. We love DesignX camp, and my kiddos can't wait for next year!
