The concept is having wine and cheese while the instructor guides you thru each step of your painting. After 2 hours of painting, laughs and seeing everyone else's "interpretation" on the subject, you have an end product to take home. A fun experience for all creative levels even if you think you don't have a creative side. The whole point is to go with the flow and have fun. ...and it's not the wine talking. Other classes offered: fused glass, painted charcuterie boards, light saber class (yeah hmmm!), painted wine glass and kids summer camps. There is a slab roller, extruder, and wedging table available for use. They have 16 glazes available. Clay will be fired to Cone 6 (currently they have BMix and Speckled buff for now but will expand more in the future.) Member hours are 9am-9pm starting in July. I had just moved back home to the bay area and wanted to continue my pottery journey and take my skills further. I walked in and asked for a tour from the staff on-site and they were very thorough with questions and the walk through! After doing some research on studios in the south bay, I found this one to be the most attractive space in the area. I took a 1.5 skills class (between beginner and intermediate) and am happy to report that I have greatly improved my pottery skills! Prior to taking the class, I was able to throw with some skill and explore shapes. My objective in this class was to throw larger, cleaner, and more confidently. My teacher, Josephine, taught me an alternative method of throwing to what I was used to but I picked up on it quickly and was able to adjust my style to center and throw beyond 2 lbs. This in itself was a win because I have relatively smaller hands that would cramp easily when trying to move larger clay bodies. From the beginning of the class, Josephine clarified the goals of each student to identify the emphasis of our 6-week class. We cut through cylinders, practiced shaping, throwing off the hump, etc. By the halfway point, I was able to pull even cylinders with significantly more weight, setting up success for larger forms. I highly recommend this class and I am very happy with my work :) In the class, I started with Laguna Half and Half, then B-mix. About the studio: The studio is airy and clean. *Emphasis* on clean! Although many students do not have prior experience working in artistic spaces, everyone is respectful and mindful of the community. Meaning, people look after their own messes and clean up their stations, which is much appreciated in a creative community; this was a major factor in my deciding to sign up with this studio. If you take a class, there are long hours of open studio to come in and practice throwing, tools available for potters, and staff on-site to answer questions. If you are a more established potter, there are dedicated wheels for members. Overall, this studio gave me a lot of flexibility to grow my skills in a relatively short amount of time. I was able to reevaluate my throwing methods with an encouraging cohort, in a fantastic space. They also have some great glazes and stains to finish off your pieces with. It's also a plus that this is centrally located in a great part of Cupertino/South Bay. I am looking into more special guest workshops and a membership at this point. I've loved my time here and if you are hopping on the pottery wagon, this is a superb place to be!

We did the private session, so it was just us and Shubhs, and she made sure we were both comfortable to be ourselves and to maintain a positive attitude. We started off with writing positive affirmations for the painting session, and then we got to choose what we wanted to paint from the many examples she had on the wall. She was super flexible in what we wanted to paint, and even let us paint something that was not one of the examples. During the painting process, she sat with us and taught us step by step what to do to create a beautiful, and well blended painting. Throughout the whole process she was very patient and encouraging, which was so lovely as a beginner painter. She offered snacks and music changes, which made the experience even more personal.

Recently, we got into painting together at home by following Bob Ross' (the OG painting home) painting tutorials on YouTube. My partner came up with the idea of a paint and wine kind of night with a painting instructor, which we both excitedly agreed to! Upon perusing Google and all possible studios found online near us, VinoArtist came up! We saw the ample examples and sessions they had and were super stoked to book a session. For $25/person, we would get a canvas, access to paint colors and brushes, and a pro instructor to teach us how to paint our desired picture for 3 hours! Wow, what a steal! Or so we thought. PS: if you want wine, you'll have to pay $5/cup or get their VIP pass to get wine for free (or discounted price. I don't drink, so not sure lol). Water bottles and snacks were sold $1 a piece too! No free gourmet popcorn for anyone with the wine pass. Upon arriving to the studio, we were greeted by our instructor for the night, Mark. He checked us off his tablet and instructed us to find an empty seat before the painting session started. We arrived roughly around 6:45pm, 15 minutes before 7:00pm (the start of the paint session). Unfortunately, we didn't really start until 7:20pm because people were either late or lost finding the building. I felt really bad that Mark had to keep running up and down the building to open the door for folks to come in since the lobby doors are locked. Perhaps the folks at VinoArtist should invest in a helper so that the teacher shouldn't have to run back and forth to let late students in? I felt bad for Mark and the number of times he had to run in and out of the room to let others in. Anyways, aside from starting late, the session felt a bit awkward at times. As much as Mark was trying to entertain everyone with his jokes, there were some awkward moments of silence or sad jokes being thrown in. To be honest, I can't even remember what was said or taught, as I was trying so hard on my own to paint and complete my painting with the little tips and tricks Mark presented. He did warn us he was quick though lol. The main thing that really disappointed me the most about this painting night session was how the painting that was advertised to us upon signing up was NOTHING like the reference photo depicted in class. When another student inquired why the reference photo was so different, Mark explained that students got frustrated with keeping up with the advanced/featured painting that we all signed up for. Hmmm...okay. Then why don't you just update the picture then? We all felt deceived that we weren't paying for what we expected to learn???? Take a look at my pictures to see what I'm talking about. I wish I took a photo of the painting he drew at the end of class because it also looked nothing like the reference photo he put up before he began painting. Aside from the tardiness, the deception, and the dry jokes that filled the evening, my partner and I thought the event was okay. We were too busy trying to complete the painting that we just kept to ourselves throughout the event and left once the event ended. PS: the event did not take 3 hours. Approximately a good 1 hour and 30 minutes, as we finished around 9:15pm. If you want to do a paint and wine night and don't have supplies at home, I think it's fine to paint here, but don't expect to walk away with the painting you signed up to learn...I think my partner and I will stick to at home painting with Bob Ross.

Though there was a schedule that listed Matiz class 9:45 am to 10:45 am on Saturdays, there was no information regarding start and end date, so I was under the impression it was on a rolling admission, or that I would receive an email with directions. I did not receive an email with instructions, thus I emailed Art Hub Academy asking whether or not I should show up the next day (Saturday) for the class. Jose Luis emailed me back and let me know that all classes start at the beginning of the month, however he was super accommodating and allowed my son to come in the next day, all due to MY confusion! I apologized for the inconvenience and thanked him for his flexibility and for being so thoughtful. We showed up to the class the next morning, and Ms. Vivian was there. I am extremely impressed with how patient she is. She provided an all inclusive classroom environment that made my son feel comfortable. So much so, that he asked if I could leave because all of the other parents were not present. Usually he does not like to be alone in new environments until he warms up, but he wanted to be alone within 10 minutes of the class! The children were already working on a clay project from the week prior, and Ms. Vivian accommodated all of the children. I watched her navigate the class professionally with an enthusiastic attitude and friendly demeanor. She was well organized and made sure to give every child attention, as well as one-on-one attention. She explained tasks well to the children, and encouraged the children to socialize. She was gentle yet firm in her teaching approach. I got the vibe that Ms. Vivian loves what she does and it truly shows through her actions. When the class was over, I walked back in to pick my child up. I asked her how my child did. It went well, he enjoyed it all while having fun and learning art concepts. I was surprised at how attentive she proved to be. In addition to telling me how the class went, she picked up on things that I was already aware of, but did not expect others to pick up on during a one hour class. For example, she picked up on the fact that my son needs a lot of hands-on instruction and repetition. She even went as far as to ask how she could better help my son. Words can not explain how good Ms. Vivian's attention to detail made me feel as a parent. I am truly appreciative of the professional and patient demeanor exhibited by this facility. I am really happy with the choice I made to bring my child here. My son would not stop talking about how fun the class was, and walking me through the process of "wiring" for his clay model. It has only been one class and I can see the impact that this establishment has made on my child's self-confidence. The developmental gains that my son (and I'm sure other children) are making from this establishment are substantial.
