But I have a flight to San…read moreFrancisco today, so my wife and I finally decided to hit it for lunch before heading to the airport. Let me tell you: this place is LEGIT locals. There is absolutely nothing touristy or manufactured about it. Stainless-steel tables, red plastic baskets, a busy counter, family photos covering the walls and a dining room full of people who clearly come here all the time. And the sandwiches are HUGE. Enriqueta's, opened in 1964, is best known for its Cubano and pan con bistec, but Rachel and I shared a medianoche, a tortilla con chorizo y queso and something called the "Super Cheese" with bacon. That last one is basically an enormous griddled pile of bacon and molten cheese barely contained by Cuban bread. I also grabbed some empanadas to take on the plane. The tortilla was beautifully browned, packed with chorizo and cheese, and substantial enough to be a meal by itself. The medianoche had the proper soft, slightly sweet bread, pressed crisp around a serious amount of pork, ham, Swiss, mustard and pickles. Nothing dainty happening here. The iced café con leche is also extremely strong. I will not be falling asleep on the flight out. Best of all, we got to meet the boss herself, Lucia Plá, the beloved matriarch on Saturday morning, greeting customers. Her husband, who bought the diner in 2000, Jose Luis, passed in 2019. This is the classic Cuban diner experience--a completely different vibe from Versailles or La Carreta. Smaller, more personal and much more like Puerto Sagua: a real neighborhood restaurant serving real people, with no interest in becoming a theme park version of itself. I'll definitely be back.

Google reviews also had good rating on their food.. we actually like the live music here.. They did an amazing job.. service was really good.. Bar was open till late night and their drinks were good . We ordered chicken empanadas and it was good... vegetarian sandwich was really good.. not much of vegetarian options but we like the sandwich.. the fried chicken Chicharron de pollo was average . It did not have much flavor .. bistec de pollo - grilled chicken breast was super good ! Oh wow . Amazing flavor and superbly made . Food was good overall .. Good experience overall. 4 stars !

The place is on the smaller side, yet many patrons fit in. This place is also a kind of nostalgic place, so I guess nostalgia also has a price. The food, the main reason we come here, is OK. Not very tasty, although cooked well. The other reason we come here, drink, is below par. Maybe, for the below average Joe, this place may suffice, but if you know what a cocktail bar is, this place won't cut it. My flan was good, the prices reflect the location, and if it begins to pour in Miami, you may have no other option.

A tad pricey, but really hit the spot after a few hours of swimming and sun. Cuban Sandwich: Was more on the spongy bready-texture, instead of like a crispy panini, but it did have a nice amount of grilled crunch. Seems heavy on the tender roast pork, which is fine by me. The pickles were kinda like thick rounds instead of long and thin, so the pickle taste could have been stronger. Same with the mustard, could have been a little heavier. Ham and swiss cheese portion was fine. Ropa Vieja Melt: I was expecting something similar in style to a Cuban sandwich. In reality, it was more like a Sloppy Joe. Soft bun with lots of saucy ropa vieja inside. Very tender shredded beef and lots of nice bell peppers. There was a ton of melted cheese on top. It was quite messy, but very tasty. Ropa Vieja Wrap: This was a much better manifestation of ropa vieja than the melt. It's kinda like a burrito with rice, black beans and sweet plantains. Ropa vieja is a perfect burrito filling, since it's got the texture of carnitas but must better Cuban flavors. Tostones: Huge thick rounds. Crispy on the edges and little tender towards the center. Really enjoyed the citrusy and garlicky mojo sauce for a nice tang. Yuca Fries: Literally just 4 fries. They were tasty for sure, perfectly crisp on the outside and mushy inside. But literally just 4 fries. Malanga Chips: Looks like taro, but apparently it's slightly different. Big and salty and crunchy, a great pairing to anything you order here and bring to the beach.

I most recently stopped by for a bite at this location a few blocks from North Shore Open Space Park, a.k.a. the full moon party. They have a few outside tables as well as an inside counter seating area. You typically order your sandwich & smoothie, pay and then your belly gets happy. They have a few regular sandwiches that they make fresh (i.e. not premade), as well as a "build your own" option on the menu. My go to is their Italian sub on a crispy baguette. It comes stuffed with ham, prosciutto, and salami as well as a slice of cheese. You do get to customize the green stuff, which for me is fresh lettuce, tomatoes, red peppers, and their little cornichons (baby pickles). As far as dipping sauces, they have the usual oil and balsamic as well as a lightly creamy vinaigrette, which to me had a slight hint of spiciness. I loved it! Going for my sweet tooth, their açai bowl is really packed with the açai paste, granola and fresh berries. The staff is pretty friendly and gets my order out on time. The spot is also dog friendly, I've seen folks come in with their four legged children.

Among the fast food chains, Cafe Versailles stood out because it offered Cubano sandwiches in addition to various types of Cuban pastries and Cuban-style coffee. Since I always try to get a Cubano sandwich while visiting Miami, I figured this was my last chance and ordered one at Cafe Versailles next to my gate. My sandwich was toasted to order and served warm, but I noticed that the cheese hadn't fully melted, and the meat wasn't completely heated through. On a positive note, there was a generous portion of both meat and cheese stuffed inside the sandwich, and the bread was perfectly toasted. I ate half of my sandwich before boarding and saved the remainder of my sandwich to enjoy later.

My impression this time was a little more underwhelming. I got a Cubano sandwich and my favorite part was the bread. I think it still needed to be a little bit crispier on the outside, but it was still good. I ended up taking off the pork; it was just dry and chewy. The ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard were a nice combination. The guava and cheese pastelito was okay too; nothing spectacular. I'd love it to be a little fuller and fresher. For airport food, Cafe Versailles was totally fine.

Today, my girlfriend and I ordered two baleadas especiales. We were charged for the special version, but neither baleada came with avocado. This is not the first time we've received an order with missing ingredients or mistakes, and it's frustrating to pay extra without getting everything that is supposed to be included. We were told the order would take around 20 minutes, but when my girlfriend received it, the food was already cold. On top of that, when we called to let them know about the missing avocado, no one apologized. They only said, "We'll pay more attention next time." Mistakes can happen, but after it happening repeatedly, along with cold food and no real acknowledgment of the inconvenience, it's disappointing. The food itself has good flavor, but they seriously need to improve order accuracy, food temperature, and customer service.
