Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich
Amy G.

A relatively small restaurant with tight seating. The service could have been better, our waiter took his time with coming over. Didn't check to see if everything was good or if we needed anything else, we had to get his attention. I had the chicken sandwich which was tasty, but in no way a sandwich. It was a very small piece of pita with a big serving of chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & tzatziki sauce so you couldn't pick it up to eat like a sandwich. The food portion was good for the money though.

Went for an early New Year's Eve dinner with some friends last night. Everything was amazing from the food to the service. The garlic dip and the zucchini chips were delicious- but the octopus was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. For my entree, I had the lamb gyro platter with lemon potatoes. also delicious. The loukoumades with honey and cinnamon were the perfect dessert to end the meal. The waitstaff was top notch - friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. Will definitely be back!!

Easily my favorite Greek spot in Brooklyn! Everything tastes homemade and authentically Greek. The kalamarakia, grape leaves, and feta with honey are perfect for sharing, and the salmon is unreal. Definitely a place you'll want to come back to again and again :)

Grape Leaves

Meze is a relic of the Greek restaurants that I have come to expect. A loud, friendly atmosphere, exceptional food, exorbitant portion sizes (and prices, but that is to be expected), and an overall positive well being threatening to destroy the balance between man and mind. The restaurant is about a ten minute walk from the 62nd Street/New Utrecht Ave subway station on the D and N lines, which is good because you will have to walk this off when you are finished. I ordered plenty of food here, and do not regret any of it. I am hoping to return again and get more, because it is all remarkable. My server, Emilio, is a true spark plug. He is full of energy and charisma. As I was winding down with my food, he was still at top speed and form. He was ready for me and anticipated my every move. Wanna know what I ordered? Grape leaves: Ten to an order, way too many to a fault, but I am not complaining. They were fresh, delicious, delicate, and well balanced. I also played these well with the free bread that comes with your table. A must for any large party. Greek sausage: When every table is ordering these, I have to as well. The sausage has great flavor, a perfect size for an appetizer. The dipping sauce is first rate, and I powered through these like a champ. A great complement to the grape leaves. The grape leaves even set these up pretty well. Grilled Octopus: My oh my, the octopus is outstanding. It is HUGE! I cut this up to make it more manageable and I still could not finish it. This is no laughing matter. I thought I would inhale this thing but instead this came back on the attack. Overall the octopus and I came to an agreement to leave some of it alone. Veal Youvetsi: It started out rough, but gained traction as the dish cooked. It was as if the dish was still cooking in its own sauce as I was eating it. The dish is served with crumbled cheese, but it needs a different kind of cheese. The orzo is a little overcooked but is still pretty tasty. The veal is a bit dry, but overall has a nice earthy texture and taste to the dish that feels heavy. This would be great in winter. The dish reminds me of an Ossobuco, with no marrow. I savored it all with a glass of Pinot Noir, which goes well with all the savory dishes due its subtle sweetness. When I was finished, I said to Emilio, "I think I did I good job considering the circumstances." "You did great," he responded. But I am not done. I figured to end on a high note and order a dessert. I got the loukoumádes, or honey balls, in Greek. Six to an order, they are super sweet, and super delicious. I only ate three because I would be in Maimonides Hospital if I ate them all. Perhaps it could have used a bit of pistachio topping to offset the sweetness a little, but I got an apple juice in hopes of mitigating things and it did just that. After that, I was finished. Sure, the bill is high, but I had to give this restaurant a fair shake; they gave me more than it's just due in return. I was treated not just as a customer, I was treated as family. That is what Greek restaurants are all about and what they should represent.

3 For All Dip

The place was full of patrons on a Saturday evening around 6ish, though the was a wait, it was def worth it! The food was great and came in a timely fashion. The dips were a little on the salty side but the pita bread add up for it. Grilled octopus was cooked to perfection. We ordered too many apps and couldn't decide on main dish; will return to try the main dishes soon!

Baked Clams

Came in here with a friend on a weekday. We got the Baked Clams, Steak, and the tzatziki with flatbread. My favorite were the baked clams! 4.5/5; it was easy to eat, very fresh, and delicious! Steak-3.5/5- it was a bit salty for our liking. Maybe I'll try another one next time! Tzatziki & flatbread-5/5! -This had to be my favorite dish because it was fresh and delish! Def cooked me down from the scorching heat outside! Overall, everyone was really nice! Lots of seating and would come back here to try their other foods! !

Meze has been in my rotation for about 10 years and one of the gold standards for Greek cuisine. Go to has consistently been the lamb gyro plate (enough for 2) grilled octopus (consistently succulent and one of my all time favorites) and grilled chicken strips (surprisingly very taste given less fan fare and is complemented by a delicious Greek dressing). The restaurant itself is also very pleasant and decor provides a comforting Greek atmosphere. Quick service negates the frustrating parking situation but overall Meze continues to deliver 10 years after first visit and dozens of trips thereafter.

This place is perfect. Ambiance is wonderful, service is exceptional. Have been coming here for years but haven't in the past year or so. I forgot how good it is. My go to are is the octopus and side dishes. Everything is homemade and fresh. You can taste it. They don't skimp on portions. We ordered to go but I love dining in. Reminds me of being in Greece.

Crab cakes

Visited Meze for the first time with my husband on a Saturday evening around 5:30pm. It wasn't very packed yet, only about 2 other tables at that time. We started out with some appetizers. We ordered the Garlic Dip and the Blue Claw Crab Cakes. The crab cakes were tasty with the side of sauces. For entrees, we ordered the Lamb gyro platter which came with fries, salad, pita and the tzatziki and a chicken gyro sandwich. The platter is a LOT of food so it was well worth the $22! We enjoyed all of the food and cannot wait to come back and try other menu items!

Loved the food at Meze recently. We're used to traveling all the way to Astoria for some Greek food but this spot is very comparable. The seafood is fresh and the chicken/lamb souvlaki is incredibly tasty. Highly recommend the grilled octopus. The portion sizes are very generous which is great for sharing. We did have a reservation as it can take a while to get seated but service was quick despite the place being packed.

A nice cozy neighborhood restaurant. I have been there a couple of times and every time I go, they don't disappoint me. We were starving after a yoga class near by. The foods were served promptly and perfectly cooked. Steak were nicely done. Only thing was Mediterranean style branzino fish was a little bland. Other than that, worth to check out this hidden gem.

The new space is beautiful and open and airy, but sadly the service has dipped. This place used to be almost too fast, we were in and out and we consistently knew we could come here and get out in a very timely manner. But now I literally had to flag down our waitress and I still didn't get her attention, another waitress came over to help us get our check. We also didn't get checked on at all, luckily our food was good and right. The table next to us didn't get greeted for water or anything so they had to flag down the guy delivering food to get a waitress. I thinkkk it may be because the wait staff is servicing here and the location next store but it's really impacted the experience. Totally understand that a lot of places are understaffed, but we've never experienced this before Miriam we love you, but pleaseeeeee stop changing the menu.

It's super cozy inside, and they also give you pillows to sit on. Our server was really friendly and gave us great recommendations. We ordered a few different things to share for our party of two: - Bacon wrapped dates (5/5) so good!!! - Short ribs (5/5) I actually don't usually eat beef but these were so good and not dry. The orzo on the side also balanced it out well. - Kale salad (5/5) This seemed like a simple salad but it was so yummy and dressed well. The pine nuts tasted good with this too! - Vegan fruit sundae (2/5) Sadly this was the only thing that missed the mark. I didn't like the raisins and the almonds didn't really work well with everything but that was just me. The sorbet was also pretty sour. The best thing about this was the white cream on top (it tasted like real cream)

Theodora needs no introduction and the race to a reservation is proof. I was able to snag a reservation a month before I wanted to visit and opted for the chef's counter as many have recommended. I enjoyed sitting there and watching the controlled chaos in front of us. We were seated right in front of the Josper Mangal and Josper Oven which they use in many of their dishes. It offers the ability to preserve moisture while adding aromatics from the smoke. The Iara Cocktail was beautiful, light in flavor, and refreshing. If you're the type to sip on a cocktail throughout dinner, this is a good one! The Hildegard Cocktail was unified yet you can still taste the ingredients; I particularly enjoyed the Verbana ginger foam. So good! The Hiramasa Crudo was art in food form. A must get from the fresh fish to the citrus flavors to the garnishes. The Whipped Ricotta Sourdough was basically a dessert in the best way. The Sourdough was some of the best I've had and the whipped ricotta was fluffy, rich, and went crazy with the brown butter & honey. The Prawns were unbelievably delicious; I genuinely could've eaten 10 of them. It was smoky with a charred exterior and a clean, tender interior. The Pineapple Pico de Gallo was bright and tropical. The Whole Butterflied Trout was fantastic. The trout was buttery, moist, and so light. I can't decide if I liked the Harissa or Chermoula more. The skin got beautifully crisp from the Josper Mangal while retaining the tenderness on the inside. I wish we ended the meal there because this is where we lose the half star. The Octopus wasn't hot in temperature when we received it and it didn't have that smoky/char flavor like with the Prawns. There was also some flavor that was a bit off-putting I couldn't quite recognize. The Doughnuts were also pretty basic. They're essentially 4 doughnut holes at ~$4 each - an easy skip, in my opinion. All in all, Theodora is doing something special and is already booked & busy. If you snag a reservation, definitely go and thank me later!

When you…read morewalk in, you are immediately greeted by a giant oven baking fresh pita as well as an open kitchen. There is also an outdoor dining area, as well as a mid-sized dining room and we were seated near the window. Sawa serves Lebanese cuisine with some more modern dishes. Additionally, they have a mostly Lebanese wine list, which gave us an opportunity to try some new wines. We ordered both a red and a white for the table, and I was especially drawn to the red, as the red was served chilled, light-bodied, and very enjoyable. Nearly all of the reds and whites on the menu are from Lebanon, with just one red from Morocco, plus a couple sparkling options from Lebanon as well. We started with several dips for the table: hummus, baba ghannouj, and muhammara. The hummus was incredibly smooth, and the muhammara was especially flavorful with large pieces of walnut throughout. Everyone at the table receives fresh pita, and we ended up ordering a few more to share. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the snap peas. The Brussels sprouts were rich and flavorful, but the snap peas really stood out. They were unlike anything I have tasted before, intensely mint, served with garlic mint labneh, and very delicious. For mains, we focused on lamb: two orders of the lamb ribs, two orders of the kafta, and two orders of the sfeeha. We probably over-ordered by about one entrée, but otherwise it was the right amount of food for six people. The lamb ribs were phenomenal, fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. The lamb pies were also very good and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The kafta was good, though not quite as memorable as the other lamb dishes, but still very satisfying. Service was attentive throughout the meal, and despite the number of dishes on the table, the staff handled everything smoothly. The table got a little crowded at times, but it was manageable. I would absolutely recommend Sawa, especially for anyone who enjoys trying something a little different. They do classic Lebanese dishes very well, while also offering some creative dishes that feel unique and memorable. I am already looking forward to going back.
