Metro Diner is a local favorite in Jacksonville FL so seeing one out of town after driving for 5 hours was like seeing an oasis in the desert. My only fear is that the franchise wouldn't be as good as the originals. But it was. They have preserved the quality of food the serve. I sat at the 'bar' area and had a first hand view of the food preparation. The kitchen staff was like a well oiled machine preparing everything from scratch. The gentleman at the egg station was in the zone. One other customer even said "that man can cook some eggs" as he watched all mesmerized. The menu is large. French Toast, waffles, omelette, hash browns, pancakes, burgers, Benedicts, bacon. Take your pick. I picked the familiar chicken and waffles (with the strawberry butter) and it was almost as good as the first time I had it in Jacksonville. Metro is a great place for breakfast or brunch. Long wait times on Sunday mornings. When it rains it pours, even when seated under the covered patio. Water leaks on you, your table, and your food. Poor wait staff tried their best. They provided excellent service under the conditions provided. Constantly wiping down the table full of rain droplets and trying to move people around so they wouldn't get wet from the storm and shield their food. This is a wonderful place to start your day! This is my second review of Metro Diner, both times have been for breakfast and both times I left very pleased! My group all ordered the same thing to challenge some consistency. We ordered the Bissell Breakfast. With this you get two eggs any style, bacon, toast (or your choice of bread), hash browns or grits, and two pancakes. The breakfast that I ordered came with scrambled eggs with cheese in them (highly recommend the cheese), 3 strips of bacon, a biscuit, hash browns, and pancakes. I know what you're thinking---that sounds like a lot of food...and it is! You get a LOT of food for your money as this dish goes for around $10. Every dish had some slight differences in what we ordered but I was pleased to see the consistency of each dish as they were all equal in portions and equal in quality. The eggs with cheese were so good I'm going to have to start putting cheese in my eggs regularly. The pancakes were perfect and the hash browns were very good. I like my hash browns on the crispier side with a little more crunch. Thankfully they'll cook them the way you want them! The bisuits are also yummy, I could only take a bite out of mine. The bacon was also very awesome. Any bacon lover will find satisfaction with Metro Diner's bacon. I love Metro and my husband and I find ourselves here several times a month. The croissant french toast and beef tip dinner are my go-tos. She was very attentive after and provided our check half way through the meal - which is a huge plus in my book when you're on a time crunch! Recommended as a local place. Primary focus seems to be breakfast. Both of us ordered chicken tender plate with slaw and fries. Food came out hiw and quick. Fries and slaw were just OK. First time here. There's actually one in my city but I've never been. We decided breakfast was the first order of business before heading to the beach. The wait on a Sunday was very short (around 9). The restaurant was busy though. The waitress was great and attentive. I ordered the breakfast pie with a side of cheese grits. I really wanted the chicken and waffles but I don't eat dark meat so I skipped it. Next time I'll ask if I can exchange parts. All wings would have been great! Mister ordered the large breakfast with pancakes (the name escapes me). We were both satisfied with our selections. It was so much food I couldn't eat it all. I talked out. STELLAR food EVERY TIME! My girlfriend and I are regulars here, which I'm sure they appreciate! We have a service dog and they are always very accommodating. Wait times can be pretty busy on the weekend so we we reserved online ahead of time - when we called to verify how much longer, they mentioned we could not reserve online.... however when we got there, they were again happy to accommodate us and we were seated within 10 minutes despite normal wait times being 45-60 mins. I just fell in deep love with the cornbread waffle and maple syrup butter- hey howdy, it is so delicious. Could have had just the waffle. Portions are large, order with an empty stomach or go home on tilt. The bbq pulled pork was okay. Lots of sauce, but the meat was a bit dry. The Mac n cheese was creamy goodness. If you like a drier baked version-this is probably a no for you, but it was velvety smooth creamy deliciousness. The servers and greeters were all lovely and welcoming. The place was packed at 8pm. I use to rave about this diner. The attentive staff, the service and the cleanliness and of course the food. I always brought out of town visitor's for the chicken and waffles or the Charleston Shrimp and grits. The last 2 visits weren't so pleasant. The hostess station was a yucky mess with a heap of dirty rags and spray bottles on it. The hostess didn't take my cell number, so she didn't seat me. I saw other guest being seated. Hmmm. The table was filthy that we were seated at ...bland. Our waitress clearly wanted to be somewhere else. Another waitress "dropped off" the hard reheated chicken and cold waffles. I flagged down our waitress for the hot sauce/syrup mix for the chicken. That was the last time I spoke to her before she whizzed by and coldly dropped off the bill. My Husband and I love Metro Dinner and visit them often while away. We decided to try the local Metro on a day off. We showed up at 8am and the door was locked after a few minutes someone unlocked the door. From the 1st foot in the door we got greeted with wait staff and cooks looking at us with irritated faces. This is the 1st Metro that I walked into that smelled bad. We sat down ordered. My husband's chicken and waffle sat under the heat lamp for 15 minutes while my food was being prepared. My food was completely wrong and my Husband's chicken was cold. We had to ask the waitress for coffee refills. We love Metro just NOT the one in Pooler. I was so happy and shocked to see Metro Diner in Savannah! They have come a long way. I just moved to ATL from Jacksonville, FL (14 years) and have been to Metro Diner several times. Again, I suggested we go here for dinner the first night we were in Savannah and yes, it's at the outlet mall which is the same exit as the airport. We had 12 people so I went in and the lady was nice enough to put me on the list even though we were not eating for another 45 mins as more family was coming into town. You are at an outlet so of course there is plenty of parking. They even have a drive-up area to the front door which was great for the seniors that were with us so they didn't have far to walk from the parking lot. Word of caution, Metro diner gives you plenty of food. So much that two people can eat off one plate or you can take home the other half for another meal. I had breakfast for dinner and ended up taking half home. two others had the shrimp and grits and loved it. They have half and full portions. Trust me, the half portion is more than enough. They had a fried grit cake that is on top of the grits which looks weird but was excellent. Nice twist to a timeless dish. Every location I have eaten is always busy and this place was no different. You will leave happy and full. I will be there again the next time I am in Savannah. read more

This place is named perfect as a diner. They have a great variety from breakfast to lunch. Our group had mostly lunch options. The Reubon was really good and came with fries. If you're lucky like me you'll get a surprise sausage with your fries! You can see it hidden in the picture. We stopped in for brunch . My wife got a Bissell breakfast. I think it's called that because it was so much food that they needed a vacuum cleaner to clean up what fell off the plate. She loved it. Our friend got steak and egg bowl. And loved that. I got meatloaf mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. I normally hate steamed green beans, but these were awesome. So where the mashed potatoes and meatloaf. When we sat down, Key greeted us like we were some of her best friends. She made sure we had all we needed while we were there. For a busy Sunday lunch, Metro Diner was a good spot with a short wait and good menu of comfort food. Service was quick and attentive. I was pleased to never see an empty cup and Tyri was eager to provide service to the table without hovering too much. The Holy Davoli was a monstrous burger creation with grilled cheese bacon sandwiches as buns. It did the job as an extremely heavy meal to nurse a hangover. The taste was what you'd expect from a burger with grilled cheese buns--nothing spectacular but exactly what I wanted. I added the fried egg but this made it a little more difficult to eat. I recommend eating this beast with a fork and knife. read more

I really enjoyed this place. It has a fun decor and fantastic food. The portions are huge and the staff is nice. A friend had recommended it and it did not disappoint! I'm looking forward to going back and bringing the family! So we went for dinner for the first time. It is a completely different atmosphere (they said this was new). Calm and relaxing. Waitress got our order wrong and when one of her teammates brought it to our table we stated it wasn't ours. Thus triggering further delay and causing the food to go from acceptable to luke warm by the time it was returned to kitchen then back to us a 2nd time. Both of us added sides but it was assumed these were substitutions. I must say the size of the Eggs Benedict has shrunk considerably but not "price-wise". My wife ordered a side of corn beef hash that appeared to be leftover from the day before, it was so dry. The cheese grits I ordered as a side wasn't even hot enough to melt the shredded cheese on top much less a pad of butter. The grits were also watery, this is a big "no-no" if you live in the South. About a week ago, I ordered the same meal and there wasn't much gravy. The mashed potatoes were just okay. Takeout service can be a bit slow at times. Light crust, soft interior. The bread gave way with every bite, no tug of war here, but still maintained its integrity considering the gooey goodness inside. The meat and cheese were intermingled with precision so that every bite had the right consistency. No slap on the cheese at the last minute here. The onion rings were hot, greaseless and had the perfect Panko crunch. I only ate one, as it was gigantic but brought the rest home for future noshing. Partner's burger was cooked to order. My husband and I came here for some delicious breakfast food and we were not disappointed! I have always loved diners. I just love the food and atmosphere of diners. I grew up going to diners and it is nice to have once close to home. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated quickly. It was busy but we did not have to wait. Our waitress came and took our drink orders and food orders at the same time because we were hungry! The food came out so fast! I got the western omelette with no salsa on top, home fries with peppers and onion and a English muffin and it was delicious! My husband got the three egg breakfast with scrambled eggs and he added American cheese to the eggs, Canadian bacon, no bread and home fries and he enjoyed his meal as well! What a disappointment. I should've taken my clue from the empty restaurant. I order the fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes and a side salad. I kept smelling something off but could distinguish what it was...anyway, the potatoes were cooked with peel on and mashed but they seem to also have dirt on. They were very dark and gritty. I prefer honey mustard dressing for the salad and it tasted like it had gasoline as a base. Finally, the fried chicken was flavored okay. I took most the chicken home. When I sat it on the counter, I really got the smell. I tried to ignore it but it was prominent. It wasn't like spoiled chicken but very very old grease. I ended up throwing it away.
