Very upset with my visit to this establishment. I asked myself, why haven't I been here yet when I've been in Savannah for almost a year. Today I got my answer to that question. Let's start by walking in. The place looks cool, which is the only reason I'm okay with giving 1 star. Hostess: Didn't greet me, just stared at me until I said seating for 1. I mean, is it hard to believe that people dine alone? It seemed as if I wasn't going to get seated since I was alone. Terrible! Waitress: friendly to start, mentioned getting a sweet tea or another drink to start which is great up selling when the customers come in. That part I enjoyed. After that it went south! Food: the menu had breakfast items and the rest is something fried. I don't understand how a Diner doesn't have a standard grilled chicken sandwich. Not everyone wants to eat something greasy or fried at a restaurant. I will say she did offer to make me a tender sandwich and have them grill them instead of fry them. I didn't want to take the chance of them being raw. I opted for the avocado toast. Very boring, no seasoning or anything on this. Just wheat bread with a ton of avocado. When sending avocado to a table, make sure it's all green and it doesn't have and black in it. It's not appealing. People eat with their eyes first. I had the sweet tea and this was decent. 5 minutes into eating, the waitress drops off my ticket and doesn't return until I pushed my plate to the middle of the table when I was done. No visit to see how my meal was, no refill of my tea, no ask if I wanted desert or anything else since I ordered something I didn't really come in for. There was no care for the customer here. This is where it gets better. I stared at the servers all huddled up in the corner just laughing and having a great time. It's sad to see that energy was not brought back to their tables. The servers weren't smiling and laughing with their tables, and these are the people who are going to tip them, not the other servers! Upon getting my receipt for my charge, I overheard the server asking the other table she had if they wanted some tea or water to go. I was excited to be able to take some tea to go. Guess who didn't get asked that? Yes, it was me! I kindly signed my tab and still left a tip. The sad part is, someone like me understands how working for tips can be tough. I understand that serving one person won't warrant the same tip as a table of two or more. My rule is to tip 50% of my bill anytime I dine alone just so the server doesn't miss out when serving just myself. She missed this mark. I'm a local, I would have been back weekly had the service been stellar. I frequent many restaurants in Savannah/Pooler area looking for the best food and ultimately the best service so I can spend my money and give to people in the service industry. This place missed that mark and I'd be embarrassed to say I was a server here. Sadly this is pretty common with most of the restaurants in the south. I thought southern hospitality was a thing, I'm just not too sure that actually exists here in the Savannah/Pooler area. I blame the leadership in the building for not having the staff properly trained. My store would never treat anyone like this! Ever! Im sure a response like mine is just one of few in the bunch. Ok, we were here a year ago and left a 5 star review, which is why we're here on our next trip through the Savannah area. Today different. It's 6:25 and about 4-5 tables occupied. Not super busy for dinner time. No hostess or anybody to seat us, had to grab a server. She explained they are short staffed and ask I be understanding. The floors are filthy. Several tables not cleaned. I ask for a booth all dirty and she doesn't have time to clean one. There are apparently off duty employees and families here that are getting more attention than customers. My wife says she will not be eating here here. I went to the rest rooms......yea as expected filthy. We ordered coffee, none ready, they'll make some. I order corn beef and egg special. It's ok. The overall experience is taking away from of the food is really as expected. We've now been here forty minutes. No one available to get a coffee refill or a check, very frustrating. Oh, 2 groups of four have been waiting for a hostess, one group just stormed out. This place is on a roll tonight, no one here cares. Guys, if management reads this, you can do a lot better. Must try the Yo-Hala, especially if you like cream cheese and French toast! I had the Apple Yo- Hala, couldn't finish it but it was really tasty. Our server was really nice as well, she asked the kitchen if there was a way I could get the Yo- Hala with out cream cheese ( there isn't), but she suggested an alternate that has the same taste- of course minus the cream cheese! I really appreciated her effort! Back to the review, the hash browns are fresh and not just greasy! The All American burger is made with Angus beef, tasted great. Fries tasted like they were just cut and out of the fryer.the burger also had a nice size pickle . Bloody Mary looked good! I had English breakfast hot tea, that didn't taste like boiled water, lol. Sweet Tea was appropriately sweet, could have done with a wedge of lemon though. Corned beef hash was fresh and so was the meat lovers omelet stuffed with all kinds of meats. read more

We were surprised to get seated right away on a Saturday afternoon. We chose to go with the brunch options, 2 eggs any style and chicken with waffles. The strawberry butter on the waffles was yummy. Everything was decent, diner style as expected. Will return to try the lunch meals. Great addition to Pooler. read more

Have only tried the breakfast menu but it does not disappoint. Service is friendly and fast.

First time eating at this restaurant. We were seated immediately and our drinks were served quickly. Our order was delivered pretty quickly. I had one of the daily specials, the pastrami on rye (hold the mustard,) and my wife had the chicken tenders salad with a half cup of shrimp and corn chowder. The pastrami was tender and piled high (not NY deli high but still respectful.) My wife complained that if she knew her salad was going to be so high, she wouldn't have ordered the soup. My only complaint would be the overflow of paper towels in the men's room, and my wife told me the women's room only had one toilet working. Overall a pleasant lunch, and now I'm sitting here almost 4 hours later and am still full. read more

Absolutely love this place. While the prices are a little higher than what you would normally expect from a diner, it is definitely worth it. They have a wide variety of food that is sure to please anyone. They serve breakfast all day and have amazing lunch and dinner options. They also have specials on specific days that are not on their menu. The only downside to this place is the parking. There is no really close parking so it's only a little bit of a walk, but if you are already in Tanger, it's right around the corner. Definitely go visit this place if you're looking for great diner food! read more

Traveling on business and found Metro Diner driving through. Ordered shrimp & grits. Huge portion and very tasty. The grits are made into cakes & then smothered with gravy. Shrimp are left whole and taste fresh. Highly recommend the dish. Waitress was very friendly and polite. Joked and had sweet personality. Metro Diner never disappoints! Each time, our food has been perfect, filling, reasonably priced, and the service is always on point. I'm a big fan of eggs Benedict, and it really is not as easy as it looks. I mean have you ever tried to poach an egg? Seriously. It's crazy difficult. I've tried two of their eggs Benedict options and both were awesome. Not a cracked yolk in the house. The last time I went, my server asked if I wanted my hash browns crispy (how did she KNOW?!) Anyway, I actually was so pleased with my service that I asked the girl to apply to work at the restaurant I'm a manager at. Now THAT'S quality. read more

The hostess was disorganized and screwed up the order of the names so several people with the same party size as me got seated before me. Also, the food arrived cold. It was a busy Sunday but this place shouldn't compromise quality and they did. My French toast was horrible, burnt on one side, basic no real cooking. Went there while in town for my son's soccer match. Had 19 of us in the group. Everyone in the group enjoyed their food - which might be a minor miracle because we have some really picky people. My family personally had the monte cristo, croissant french toast, chicken and waffles, and big bern's pork tenderloin. Everything was delicious and the portions were insane. Among the group, there were pancakes bigger than platters, sandwiches taller than any mouth could actually bite, waffles made out of stuffing with all the ingredients of thanksgiving dinner piled on top, and much more. Really tasty stuff! You wouldn't think that a restaurant attached to an outlet mall would be good, but this one is definitely worth a stop. read more

The waitress was super friendly. One of the nicest I've ever seen. She's the one with a variety of pens she carries around her apron. All the foods in the pictures were just ok. None really stood out. The steak was really overcooked and I could chew for ages but I'm not sure which dish that was. We frequently travel I-95 from Charleston, SC down into FL. We've stopped at this exit before, but had never been to the Metro Diner. We will absolutely come back! We were hungry for a big breakfast. I eat a vegan/pescatarian diet so I was excited to see avocado toast on their menu. They did not disappoint. The bread tasted fresh baked and I believe they had to use at least 2 avocados per order. My husband ordered eggs Benedict and also an order of avocado toast. He made yummy noises with every bite. The portions are huge! Our server, DeeDee, was super friendly and on top of taking care of our needs including refreshing our coffee often, despite how busy the restaurant was. My husbands avocado toast had gotten delayed in the kitchen, but we never complained because everything was so good. However, after they did bring his toast, the manager came over to let us know that she had removed his avocado toast from our bill. That was truly great customer service! read more

After three consecutive five-star meals, I feel obligated to leave a review. The worst thing about this place is the disappointment you feel when you have to make a decision. The food is comfort food - from pot pie to chicken Parmesan to eggs Benedict to shrimp and grits to pork tenderloin, often with a creative gourmet twist. The service is almost too good. The service is great and the food is even better! Of course the just opened so it's really busy and has a ton of employees. I had the special which was French toast eggs bacon and home fries! All delicious! My son had biscuits and gravy which he raved about also. We also came on a holiday but it wasn't bad at all. I think because we got there kind of early. We had the Yo Hala with three tenders on the side, chicken salad salad & all meat omelet with wheat toast & fries. The Yo Hala is a take stuffed French toast. I prefer more sweet cream cheese with no bananas on the inside. The flavors were pleasant but maybe the bananas on the outside. The omelette was packed full of meat and cheese & the toast was a tad hard. The chicken salad was salty which threw the entire taste off. I have decreased my salt intake so everything is salty to me. Service was poor,eggs were undercooked and to top it off a cockroach ran across the table (Which my husband killed and gave the dead bug wrapped in a napkin to the hostess). Got the chicken and waffles and easily understood why it's what they are known for. One plate can feed 2 people. The spicy/sweet syrup is awesome on it. Let's talk about the strawberry butter! Def have to have that on everything! Husband got the hamburger steak and eggs and said it was mouth watering. HUGE 1/2" thick plate size pancakes. My lady and i came by here for sunday brunch.....it was extremely crowded, but we were hungry, and therefore we stayed. After waiting some 25 minutes, we were asked to join a couple whom had also been eaiting as they'd been seated at a table for four although they were a twosome. Strange choice by the restaurant, but it worked for us. It was an open cavernous place, with no efforts made to lessen the din, which was at the level of a dull roar. Oh well. Simply said, much could be done for very little to turn this place into a real diner - this place is more like an insitutional cafeteria! We ordered, and our food, all four of our foods, were, as one of our guests said, "O.K." Now, im 64 and have eaten alot of breakfasts, and im dissapointed to say it was a definite let down. I couldnt finish it, so i brought it home, where it still resides in the fridge. Ill throw it out tonight with the garbage. Most distressingly, i felt increasingly uncomfortable over the evening. Dont know if the food was bad, but the dis-ease made me even more certain this is not a place i will likely choose to go again. Enough said. I visited this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday morning so of course it was very crowded but I liked the atmosphere and the employees were nice. I ordered the breakfast pie and a side of hash browns. I wasn't expecting to get so much food, but the plate was huge. The pie comes with a layer of cheese that looks similar to mozzarella but the cheese didn't have the flavor of cheese which was disappointing - so I'm guessing they are using cheap store brand version cheese. The rest of the pie underneath the cheese had eggs and vegetables but none of it was seasoned so I had to keep putting salt on it. Also it was watery at the very bottom of the dish, not sure why. Maybe the eggs were runny?? The dish didn't taste bad but it also didn't taste good enough for me to order it again or recommend it to anyone. read more
