We have been to the original Metro in Jacksonville, Florida...and frequented many other Metro Diners in Florida, especially the Gainesville location....ALWAYS enjoying the food and experience. Last year we discovered one in South Bend, Indiana and were very disappointed. The service was good, but the food left a lot to be desired. Tonight we found this location near Savannah. Eating solo is something I do often. Therefore, I enjoyed my experience at the counter for breakfast. I watched the food be prepared and picked up by the wait staff. When food was ready, someone would call out "to the window" and I suppressed the urge to respond "to the walllll" Anyway....I ordered a breakfast platter that was big enough for two people. Service was good, but I did wait a while for my plate to reach me. They were super busy! My pancakes were served a little tougher than I like them, but the hash browns were delicious and crispy. My eggs were served the way I asked, over medium. Someone was eveready to fill my coffee. I recommend for breakfast with family, friends and solo trips. read more

The chicken and waffles are the best I've ever had. Anything else on the menu I can't speak for. The hot sauce and syrup and strawberry butter that come with the chicken and waffles are amazing! While passing through Atlanta on way to airport we stopped into this amazing breakfast destination. I'm very thankful there isn't a Metro Diner in MA as the food is by the Ton and I don't normally eat this way. That being said we got the Chicken and Waffles, Cinnamon bun pancake, and the avocado toast as it was recommended by two people. All of the meals were very good. Metro Diner definitely earned all the stars available on our trip. The food was one thing but honestly some of the best service we've received. Our waiter was friendly, kind, helpful, funny and very knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu. He made the experience all the better. Coming here on a rainy saturday morning made walking into the warm, fragrant establishment all the more better. The wait was about 15 minutes that morning, which apparently isn't bad for them. We were seated by our friendly waiter and were told about the specials (which looked amazing) but after reviewing the pictures provided on yelp I knew that I was after their breakfast burger. I asked the waiter about it because i didn't see it on the menu and he explained to me that its actually a secret menu item! He assured me that they could definitely make it for me though, as it is common amongst the employees. I was stoked. This sucker came out about 6 inches high. Thick burger with hash browns, bacon, cheese, eggs, lettuce, tomato and onion. It may have been the best breakfast sandwich i've ever indulged in. My fiance ordered the eggs benedict (her go to) and they were good but they didnt come near by burger lol. If you're in the area and havent been please do! Yes they do it right, yes I will be back and yes you should come here if you are serious about your eating. I have come here numerous times and just realized that I haven't reviewed. Each visit the people are friendly and the service helps as we all know with the experience. My wife brought me here the first time and I missed out on hearing about this place somehow, good thing she married a fat guy and she knew that food would get me going. I may need 10 more visits to make it through all of the menu selections that catch my eye. So many choices in this area, you will not be disappointed here. Plenty of reasons for you to stop here for eats: plenty of parking, curbside pickup if you can't waddle far after eating (don't judge me) and great scenery if you choose to kill time before or after your meal. read more

My haughtiest and I visited here for a late breakfast. I ordered the raisin pecan French toast. It was amazing. But way too large of an order. It's four pieces. In not sure if they have half an order but I'll definitely ask next time. My daughter ordered the western omelet. It was a huge portion too. She liked it a lot. If more than 5 stars were possible this place would earn one. First off let me tell you they have the friendliest and funniest staff. Shout out to John for keeping us entertained our entire meal. John said, "First time here? Well welcome to your new breakfast spot." And he was right! I cannot wait to go back. Now let me tell you about a little secret... they have a hidden menu item! The breakfast burger!! It is actually too big to fit in your mouth and I think I am salivating now writing this review thinking about that heavenly meal. Had a really nice brunch at Metro Diner yesterday. The place is a little loud, so be prepared for that, or ask to sit outside. The wait staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable of their menu. Never-had-grits, consider me converted! Service is great and the food carries itself. I was in town to look at some houses comma and stopped in here for some nice breakfast. I was especially attracted to this place because they open at 7 a.m. Being an early riser want to make sure that I can get some food in before I go out and see some houses! At about 8 o'clock on a Saturday morning, when I went in I was sat down pretty quickly. Being close to a doorway when it's a little chilly outside maybe a little cold, so keep an eye out for that. I was offered drinks really quick from another server. When my server came over I asked for suggestions on the Grits because I've never had them before and we decided I should get the regular grits. She also suggested I get butter on the side and maybe add pepper to them. I got the breakfast pie with no toast, grits, and a side of bacon. The breakfast pie was pretty good. It had a lot of cheese on it! Not very many potatoes though, but with the Grits I was plenty satisfied. The grits, with a little bit of pepper, tasted great. The bacon was also really good though a little over overcooked. My server came around every so often and was really nice and helpful. We talked about how much she loves the area and has lived here all her life. Next time: I'll be trying the steak and eggs! Update: Finally got those steak and eggs. The medium rare cook on the steak was solid. The over medium eggs was a little under cooked for me; I like that egg white solid! My first visit to Metro Diner, my wife and her parents are frequent visitors. I will say we were greater promptly and seated right away. Our server was great she took our orders and made sure our speacial requests were passed on tot eh kitchen. My wife and I split the smothered pulled pork on Mac and cheese. The food took a little bit to come out but the place was pretty busy. We asked for our pulled pork and Mac to be separated and they put each item in its own bowl. We were pleased with that. The Mac and cheese was a pretty standard one nothing special. The pulled pork had good BBQ flavors and pretty tender. The best part was a corn bread Belgium waffle. read more

Okay if one was to combine a Southern diner with say the portions of the Cheesecake Factory it's offspring would most likely be something like Metro Diner. We didn't know it at the time but Metro Diner is a big growing restaurant chain that started in Jacksonville and has currently about 70 plus locations and growing rapidly and I can see why. The staff is friendly, portions huge and the tastes fantastic. This location is great as it's located directly part of the Tanger Outlet Mall in Savannah. Serving a variety of traditional American fare with a Southern twist, they have a variety of burgers, pastas, grits and of course chicken and waffles! The food came out quickly despite the busy crowds. They basically have something that everyone in your group can enjoy. The Chicken and Waffles in particular was a standout. A bit expensive at about $15 USD but you get a whole round waffle and about half a chicken (4 pieces). The strawberry butter was a really nice touch. Our server Chase? was a friendly young guy and was very attentive. I can see why this place is constantly packed and everyone seems to be enjoying their meals. Don't be surprised if we start seeing this franchise closer to the Canadian border soon. Highly recommended! read more

Chicken and waffles seems to be the thing here. I saw a few plates fly by and it looked good, although not what my tastebuds were craving. The menu was broad enough, breakfast fare, salads, sandwiches, and more substantial lunches & dinners. I opted for a pastrami sandwich on rye bread. It was tasty enough with a good amount of cheese that oozed off the sides of the sandwich. I would have enjoyed some robust mustard but nothing was readily available, and I didn't bother asking for some. If any criticism of note was that the sandwich was very greasy. Part of that is the type of sandwich, but this was even more than expected. Really odd and off base was I ordered my side to be grits. The grits, a mainstay in Southern diners, were good enough and came in a small soup bowl. They were creamy and not excessively gritty. Our server was a lot of fun, friendly yet professional too. Update since our last visit to the Metro Diner ..... Our last experience was to say the least highly disappointing as this is one of our favorite places to go. Fast forward about a week and a half .... Our daughter (whom was with us on our last visit) wanted to go back to the Metro for dinner tonight so we won't back. Tonight our dinner was truly back on point! My wife got the chicken parmesan sandwich, I got the Ruben and my daughter an Son in Law got the Corn bread waffle to share. Everything was absolutely great tonight at dinner. Everything was hot, fresh, delicious and no part of our order got missed! Also, as usual, the manager was making his rounds to ensure his customers were happy, treated right and all was well with their dinners. When he came by our table tonight he actually remembered us from our last (not so great) visit. Talk about service and he was very happy to hear from us the 180* turn around from last time. We always stop at this diner on our way to Florida. I was shocked to see after we had already eaten that their sanitation grade is a 71 (C). The grade was posted but not somewhere it can be easily spotted. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this diner unless the rating is an A. Very disappointed. read more

After hearing so many wonderful things about Metro Diner, I was excited about trying it out this weekend during a trip to the outlets. I have to say that I was underwhelmed. That being said, I feel like I ordered the wrong things and sat in the wrong place. We came in right around lunchtime and there was quite a crowd waiting for a table. The hostess told us we could wait for 20-30 minutes or sit at the bar immediately. We were surprised to see no one was at the bar, so we hopped on the opportunity! Those bar stools were SO uncomfortable. There is no where to put your feet, so your legs are just dangling awkwardly until your butt is numb. This was our first mistake. Mistake number two for us was our order. This place is known for it's breakfast foods, but it was lunch time and we were looking for something a little more savory. My boyfriend ordered the French Dip sandwich and I had the Greek salad. They were good, but nothing to write home about. I felt like the Greek salad was overly salty with the amount of kalamata olives, and the Greek dressing was very oily. The French Dip didn't have a lot of flavor, and the chips were very bland as well. I definitely want to give Metro Diner another shot. I'll definitely sit at a regular table or booth next time, and I need to order one of their yummy-looking breakfast entrees like Chicken and Waffles or the Breakfast Pie. Went in this past weekend for breakfast, it is a usual place for us to go. Always been great food, great service. This time, we sat at the counter. The service was great, the food was great-what I ate of it anyway, because halfway through the meal, a roach decides to crawl across my fiancé's plate, making its way to me. That being said, we had previously been in a couple of months earlier, and we left because there was a roach crawling up the wall, right next to me. We didn't tell anyone the first time, but since a second time happened, I feel the need to speak up. I will say that the manager was very apologetic and nice, and comped our meal. However, seeing a roach in there TWICE kinda creeped me out. I wasn't going to say anything, but I would want to know if something like that happened to someone else. read more

Best diner experience in GA! It was so good that I actually came here for breakfast more than once during my stay around Savannah. Steak and eggs was rock solid and well seasoned. The steak was cooked properly and not over/under. The hash brown here also had that awesome crisp. Also tried the corned beef hash, which was really tasty as well. Service was stellar on both visits.
