Thanksgiving Day 2025 meal was made awesome with the help of Metro Diner! They advertised on Facebook for Holiday carryout meals and we wanted to try something different this year (it was Publix last year). Having read that Metro Diner specialized in the comfort meal American food area, I felt that would be the choice for a great Thanksgiving dinner - at least a lot of potential. This review basically focuses on the carryout process and dinner prep and eating. It was easy to sign up for the dinner of my choice. I chose the 4-person meal package. There were options for larger groups, or for single as well. You get to make some picks on certain items. I chose to have the classic turkey dinner that included stuffing, white mashed potatoes, and green beans. Mexican corn was attractive, but I don't live in San Diego anymore! LOL. Of course, when you're from Detroit, you better have some cranberry sauce too! The meal was basic and certainly I could have picked up other things in area grocery markets if I had chosen to. My time for pickup was 11 am Thanksgiving Day. I got there 10 minutes early and it was PACKED with people dining in when I got there. It was very impressive. ALL the servers were intensely on the move but for all the busyness, the employees, customers at the tables and those waiting seemed pretty happy for the most part. After a few minutes inside, I let them know my name and order and thought the wait would take a while due to the crowd size. It didn't! It was totally on time! Kudos to Metro Diner for expertly handling such an astoundingly heaving number of customers on this day! When you get the carryout Thanksgiving meal, it's prepped for you in aluminum containers. You receive instructions on how to cook them and how long with the package. We were eating after around an hour and a half after baking and it was pretty much what I was hoping for! They gave lots of turkey! I think they brined it up pretty well - it was delicious! The potatoes, stuffing and green beans were awesome as well. I would say the gravy was overly salty, but other than that, I look forward to doing this again sometime. I do plan to go back and get an inside the eatery experience after the Holiday Season. But for now, I have much gratitude to Metro Diner for giving us a GREAT Thanksgiving Day dinner for 2025! Recommend: VERY HIGH read more

The Metro diner is a great local place with plenty of seating on both sides of a restaurant. There's even six barstools in front of the cook. You can sit there if you like I eat they're often as it's two blocks from my home and everything I have ordered is either really good and hot and fresh or the replace it but on my last trip, I had a X Benedict and a pancake both out stems when we cook perfect my son had chicken and waffles. Their fried chicken is outstanding and the waffle was delicious as well reasonably priced place to eat and I'm excited they're gonna be open starting at the end of the month for dinner so now you don't have to rush there by 2:30. They'll be open till eight Metro diner is consistently good and the staff is very friendly trying it out. read more

I hadn't been to this location in several years and it's as good as ever. Service is fast and friendly and the waitress saved me a few bucks by telling me I can get more food at less cost by ordering a combo instead of pancakes and bacon. The Bissell breakfast was a short stack of tasty pancakes, fresh grits, bacon and fruit (subbed in for eggs since I don't like eggs). Everything was hot and fresh and they were constantly refilling my coffee. I was able to get a table around 8am on a weekday but they can get crowded, especially on the weekends. We were seated right away for breakfast on a recent Tuesday morning. Coffee came out quickly and was refilled often. My husband had his "usual", eggs over medium with extra crispy bacon, French fries and rye toast. Nona single complaint. I went with huevos rancheros. Delicious. It's like breakfast nachos, with sausage, bacon, cheese, salsa, sour cream and two eggs on top. The portion is so large I had leftovers for breakfast the next two mornings. We had a really good breakfast this morning from Metro Diner. It's a super cute place with an old school vibe. I loved the black and white squares flooring especially. We ordered online and then went to pick up the order. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had the 2 egg breakfast with ham steak, hash browns, and an English muffin plus a large coffee. It was very good! My daughter had the 2 egg breakfast with bacon and English muffin. We shared an Apple Cinnamon pancake, which was so big that we only ate half of it. Our breakfasts were very good. Our men's Bible study group came in Saturday for breakfast and couldn't stop raving about the seasoned pork chop special, so I had to try it myself--"shoot the chef" amazing! I arrived about 30 minutes before closing and still received great customer service. The meal was fabulous, the coffee was a little weak, but overall a 5.0 experience. Food is good but as you know a terrible server can ruin the meal. Julie A was ready for us to move on before she even took our order. The bill came at the same time as the food. It was 7:15 on a Sunday morning, so with an empty diner, no reason to rush us. It would've been nice to have a refill on the coffee, but she never returned after the food was brought to the table. We had to ask a different server for a box for the leftover food. We asked for a printed receipt and she disappeared, we had to ask the hostess on the way out. Again the food was good, the diner seems clean, and everyone else seemed helpful. I guess my review isn't so much for the diner, but for the staff tending to our table. If you don't like your job, just fine something you do enjoy. It would be more beneficial to you and those around you. read more

I'm disappointed, H-ANGRY, and frustrated - this was a to-go order. I've read some of the positive reviews here, and while I don't mean to be rude, I have to respectfully disagree based on my own experience. Having worked in the restaurant industry myself, I know what to expect when it comes to basic standards--and unfortunately, this fell short. First, the salad was completely wilted. When I went to take my first bite, I was honestly grossed out (see my pictures). It makes me question whether the greens were even washed properly, which raises real concerns about cleanliness--or worse, bugs. Second, please do not place dressing containers directly in the food. It's a big red flag for food safety. I've seen firsthand how these containers might get dropped, picked up, reused, or handled unsanitarily--and to have them sitting inside my meal is just unacceptable. The dressing itself didn't taste fresh, and honestly, it was not a good match for a Caesar salad. A classic creamy Caesar would be a much better choice. Lastly, the grilled chicken had a strange aftertaste, like it was cooked on an unclean grill with remnants from previous orders. It completely ruined the flavor of the meal. All in all, I was really looking forward to this meal and ended up disappointed and still hungry. I hope this feedback helps the kitchen make some improvements. read more

I stopped by here for breakfast/brunch with my Aunt and uncle. Nice little diner, pretty busy for a Friday afternoon, but the service was still top notch. I ordered The Huevos Rancheros, the meal was okay. Cooked completely different than the way I'm used to seeing it at Mexican restaurants up in NY. The presentation of the dish was fantastic as you can see by the pic. The dish was missing some flavor profiles that I used to having and seems to be a common thing with Mexican dishes down in Florida. The bloody Mary that I had was a bit weak and almost see through. Haley was our server and did a fantastic job! She was very friendly, very fast, and checked in on us to make sure we had enough drinks, and that our food was properly prepared. I was very pleased to see a large gluten-free menu, Haley also explained that they do change their gloves and take precautions - that's all you can ask for. The people that eat gluten enjoyed fried chicken and waffles, fried chicken Benedict, and more! I enjoyed eggs with real hashbrowns and sausage. I can't tell you the last time I had real hashbrowns! Portion sizes are absolutely huge, flavor is good, prices are very reasonable. It was great to come in and not have to wait for a table, by time we left a little bit after nine they were jampacked. It's always great to have another restaurant on the roster where my entire family and friends can enjoy a little bit of everything. As a big fan of Guy Fieri, and when I found out I was going to be visiting Jacksonville, I looked up whether Guy had any places he recommended on his show. When I saw Metro Diner on triple D, I knew I had to try it. I visited Metro Diner on a rainy Saturday for breakfast. I ordered Chicken and Waffles with possibly the largest glasses of orange juice I've ever seen. The waffles came with some strawberry butter that was absolutely delectable. From now on, strawberry butter is the only acceptable topping on a waffle for me. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and extremely flavorful. Coming from Toronto, I was shocked by how affordable the dish was considering there was half a chicken on the plate. If you're ever in Jacksonville, Metro Diner is a must go. In need of a hearty breakfast before a day of adventuring we stopped in at The Metro Diner. A long-time staple in Jax Beach for good reason. Came here on a whim, as most of the breakfast places we wanted to stop at were either super busy or not kid friendly. I'm not sure why we don't add Metro into the rotation more often, since they have outdoor seating, and a larger dining room than most Metros in the area. We put our name in and waited to be called. It took about 15 minutes to get us a table, which wasn't a bad wait at all. After being seated, our server came up, quickly took our drink orders and grabbed our drinks super quick. She even put the kids drinks in cups with a lid (thank goodness because kids can't be trusted to not spill their drinks). Their menu has been paired down considerably, which I'm assuming is due to shortages both on the ingredients side and server side. After taking a gander, I wanted something more sweet, so went for the croissant French toast. I will say if you're calorie conscious, try something else OR pretend the calories don't exist. I choose to do the latter. My kiddo got their kid's breakfast with scrambled eggs, toast, extra toast, and bacon. Everything came out quickly and our server was on top of it! She was sweet and continued to check up on us throughout the meal. My croissant French toast was amazing. I mean not only was it crispy, but it was fluffy, and sweet and delicious. Metro's Charleston Shrimp & Grits is served with Two fried grit cakes infused with cheese, roasted red peppers and andouille sausage. Topped with shrimp, sausage, onions and peppers in a shrimp sauce. Garnished with chopped bacon and Green onions. Needless to say this is a large serving and will for sure be fulling you up. Once arrived it looked great and like expected it was huge. The shrimp sauce with it was very tasting but very rich and heavy. I am one of those people who enjoys grit cakes so that worked for me but wow was it dense. The only thing I wasn't completely sold on was the shrimp. I don't know what is was but they just seemed to be missing something for me. Maybe blackening seasoning or Cajun seasoning but I just thought they needed some spice but that's just me. As always the food was delicious and the service excellent. We did have a minor issue. My wife asked to have fresh fried chicken, and she did not mind waiting longer for it. When her chicken and waffles came, the chicken was dark and cold. The server did take the chicken away and got her a fresh plate. I did not take a picture of the new fresh plate because I was enjoying my waffles and turkey plate. The chicken crust in the photo is dark like it was fried twice. Usually on the weekends you have to wait but today we were seated right away. The people are always loud, but the place is clean and they had tables available today. Came here with a girlfriend after watching the morning sunrise and celebrating a friend's memorial. The staff was friendly and led us to our table. We ordered coffee and tea. I had the Fried Chicken Benedict - buttermilk marinated chicken tenders, two poached eggs on a biscuit, topped with creamy Hollandaise and served with a side of hashbrowns. The chicken was crispy and juicy and the pouches eggs were cooked perfectly. The hollandaise and hash browns was also good. Absolutely became one of my favorite menu items. You can't go wrong with Metro Diner. This location is one of our favorites and it's always good. Before going I recommend using their waitlist feature. Some of my favorite things to order when I go are the classic two or three egg breakfast. You can get the eggs any style you like. The bacon is just the right amount of crispy and very flavorful. Both the hash browns and the home fries are good although the home fries are NOT gluten free because they are done in the deep fryer. I love that you can get gluten free toast! My husband always enjoys the biscuits with gravy- it's a very large and hearty portion. I'm also very impressed with the avocado toast. They don't skimp on the avocado and it is worth every penny! For the hangover- you can go wrong with the breakfast mimosa or Bloody Mary. I always find the waitstaff to be very attentive and caring! Can't wait until the next time we visit! read more

January 29, 2024 My husband and I had our first ever meet and greet in this store, in this booth in 1921. We married a year later. We've returned many times , ordering the same thing. fried chicken sand and fish and chips. Always delicious. It was lunchtime so we knew, like always, we'd have to wait and were prepared for it. To our surprise the diner wasn't only 1/4 full and we were able to seat ourselves. The best thing about the entire lunch was that we were able to sit in "our booth." The filets: 1/2 the size than previously and greasy. Fries were horrible. Hubby only ate half the thin, dry chicken. His side was hash browns and he said they were excellent. Well this is unexpected. I definitely didn't think I'd be writing a 3 star review. If I had ordered something else, this would be at least 4 stars. I mean, I already had some amazing chicken and waffles at a different location. See, this chicken pot pie...isn't one. (This actually isn't even the first time I've had this issue) (Don't call it a crustless pot pie. That's an oxymoron.) It has like a rectangle of crust draped on top and a rectangle on the bottom. I mean, I don't really care about the principle of it being a pie in and of itself, but a meat pie carries a challenge of how well you can trap heat and umami inside the crust. Obviously, they can't do that if they don't have an actual pie. More importantly, the 'crust' is not flaky at all. For some reason, I had to tear at it to get sections of it in my mouth. The texture was more like chewy tofu than a normal chicken pot pie crust. Terrible. In general, I view the 'grain' or 'bread' to be the foundation of any dish rather than the meat. So the crust is the most important part of a pot pie, just like the noodle is the most important part of any pasta or the bun is the most important part of a burger. I know some of you will disagree; that's just my perspective. In this dish, the crust honestly feels like an afterthought. It's sad because the gravy and contents had a great creamy texture and comfort food flavor. I'm glad I'm a glutton and also ordered a grilled cheese (which was alright) because I started using the grilled cheese as my crust for the pie kinda. Hmm, if you're not gonna make actual pie, this would be great with some biscuits - turn it into a unique biscuits and gravy or chicken and dumplings type dish. That would be amazing imho. Had the fried chicken Benedict in biscuit. Biscuit was light and fluffy. Eggs spot on poached. Fried chicken crispy and moist inside and 2 large pieces. Hollandaise is a bit "yellow" fo my taste and not enough given size of chicken pieces. My husband had the biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs also all properly cooked. Hash-browns nice and crispy outside but just a tad oily on both. Waffle special for grand daughter and she inhaled it. Standard Metro interior decor at this location. My son and I returned to Metro Diner to have lunch when I picked him up from college. Today we decided to share 2 items. The San Francisco Eggs Benedict and Monte Cristo Sandwhich. I have to say the Eggs Benedict was great. The combination of avocado with a most perfectly poached egg and a light hollandaise sauce was delicious. The raspberry jam they serve with the Monte Cristo is amazing and the sandwich ( I reccomend you try it) was very good. My half had mostly breading, so my son offered me his half, however I ate the middle of my sandwich and was happy enough with the flavor I think their mac and cheese is missing something . Its creamy and it looks really good. I just wish it had more flavor. Overall our lunch was great and we enjoyed our visit. It was only 30 minutes before closing and the staff was friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated after a long morning of packing. read more
