    Epic shrimp and grits
    Kristina C.

Cute old style diner. Excellent friendly service! Family dining experience with comfortable booths and old fashioned decor. I almost ordered the wagon wheel breakfast with eggs, grits, meat pancakes etc but another guest had the shrimp and grits and it looked too good to pass up. Oh my am I am so glad ! Shrimp and grits heaven with a perfect mild creole sauce and fresh diced tomatoes! My husband ordered chicken and mushrooms with onions and cornbread. He said it was good ended up asking for more onions. The only thing I would say is the bathroom could be cleaner in the toilet are the plumbing on floor area could stand a deep clean.

Truly one of the GREATS in Jacksonville Diners! There aren't many Famous Amos restaurants left, but this location is worth the visit. The service is fantastic here and their food is amazing. Highly recommend their burgers and patty melt. We are never disappointed. Our waitress, Delores, was exceptional. Comfortable atmosphere. Fast and friendly service at a reasonable price! Just Do It! Look forward to breakfast.

The best foodie quest so far this year…read more I fell off in love instantly with the cottage style house setup. As I walked up to the counter there nothing but smiling faces staring back at me. I ordered an egg sandwich on sourdough bread with an iced tea. I also ordered a sourdough rosemary & garlic loaf to go. The iced tea had a mild minty flavor and it tasted out of this world. Definitely refreshing. The food tasted so fresh and "real". I can't wait to go back!! I chose to sit outside because it was sunny out and I loved the outside eating area set up. There are plenty of colorful tables/seating outside. You can choose a table tucked away from the peaceful street view or sit out near the tree and street view and enjoy the sun. I tried the egg sandwich with sausage links added and the bread it came on was delicious as was the sandwich. I also tried a bite of a friend's pastry the cardamom swirl which was wonderful as well. Lots of coffee/ tea options too. The inside is a little crowded especially for a large group so we sat outside which although their outdoor area is cute, is tough on a Jax summer day. There were tons of ants and bugs that made it difficult to sit down and enjoy. No fault of the restaurant but would recommend eating inside if you can find a spot. Food came out quickly and the staff were all pleasant.

Breakfast anyone?…read more On this Mother's Day all I wanted was some coffee and something yummy for my belly. So we all got in the car and headed to Avondale for The Fox Restaurant. When you walk up it's a cute small restaurant that packs a mighty punch with their decor, vibe and the menu. Normally the line is pretty long to get it but it moved quickly. While in line I was greeted by the owner Ian. He was so friendly and charismatic. He sat me down as I waited for my husband and kid to join and handed me a nice hot coffee which was soooooo good! The restaurant is decorated with all vintage art work and hand drawn art work from patrons. As well as different signs with funny phrases. My favorite was sign said " If you are grouchy, irritable or just plain mean, there will be a $10 charge for putting up with you". Hahah I read it to my son because he tried to get mad about his dad taking forever to get the tablet out the car lol. Now back to the food! I had the French toast, with eggs over medium, turkey sausage and fruit. Everything was so good! I also caught a glimpse of their biscuits and I will definitely be back to try them. Besides the excellent service there I like that my Togo items were in a bag that said "Eat Local, Eat Often". I try to buy local as much but more importantly I love being able to support a local business as well as something that is a staple in the community. If you're even in Avondale or you're thinking of breakfast make sure you go to The Fox Restaurant!

Our waitress immediately came over and took our order. The food came quickly. The food was superb! Mark had an omelet and I had the mini which was one egg (cooked my way) bacon, home fries, and raisin toast, because when raisin toast is an option on the menu, you have to get it. The ambiance was inviting, we were treated like old friends from the moment we walked in. If we do not return to visit on this trip, we definitely will the next!

It's just a quick scooter ride from my boat, making it an easy destination whenever I need great coffee and an equally great atmosphere. The staff are the most welcoming, professional, customer-focused, and genuinely personable team I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am always glad I stopped in. The shop isn't large but it is a warm and inviting with comfortable indoor seating as well as a pleasant outdoor shaded seating area in a great neighborhood on Herschel Street. Coffee nerds will appreciate the beautiful Victoria Arduino Black Eagle espresso machine, a fitting centerpiece for a café that clearly takes its craft seriously. I also appreciate that they still offer 2% milk as an option as many coffee shops have eliminated it in favor of only whole milk and alternative milks, so it's a welcome choice for those of us for whom whole milk is no longer an option. Most importantly, Social House Coffee is one of the few cafés I've visited that truly embodies the "third place" philosophy and is a place you want to spend time. Whether you're stopping in for a quick espresso or settling in for a while, it feels like a community rather than just another coffee shop. If you're anywhere near the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. It's the kind of place that reminds you what a neighborhood coffeehouse is supposed to be.

I had not been here in several months and I was surprised by how many open tables they had at the end of the lunch rush. We were greeted upon entering and our party of five was seated at a 6 top in the back of the restaurant. This small room in the back is honestly one of my favorite places to sit as it is away from the hustle and bustle of the main dining area. Over server (Lauren) was polite, cheerful and considerate. She promptly took our drink orders and then took our meal orders without missing a beat even when there were modifications or special requests. While we were waiting on our food, drinks did run dry which was the only hiccup of the whole meal. When our food arrived, everything was well prepared and visually appealing. We ordered the following: 1. Half order of chicken and waffles (white meat only) with syrup, butter, etc on the side 2. Cheeseburger without onion and fries 3. Cheeseburger without onion and tomato and fries 4. Club with onion rings 5. Cheesesteak with onion rings My club was a great sandwich and their onion rings are top notch. It was a filling meal for a big eater. My wife always gets the chicken and waffles and likes that you can get it in a half order with your choice of white meat only, dark meat only or chicken tenders. Two of my kids got cheeseburgers and they were dripping with melted cheese (not even sure the 16 yr old tasted his he inhaled it so fast). My other son got a steak and cheese on a sub roll with onion rings and I stole a bite - it was really good. At the end of the meal, you pay your check table-side through the toast app via a QR code on your phone. Or you can pay with a scanner. Also, Lauren was nice enough to give us to go drinks for the road.

So we came the weekend of Jazz fest. We were out on Sunday and I was like hey let's go to Chancho King and try their ceviche. I wasn't a big fan of their ceviche I prefer it from a Mexican restaurant. However the plantain chips were a hit! I would absolutely go back and get those it was a nice snack I'm interested to see how they would taste with some guacamole I need to do that! And I'm an oyster loving girl-lala so I got 2 little cities oysters and they were nice and fresh. The two times I have been here the service has been great. For a Sunday it is super busy and the seating on the inside quickly feels up but I was so glad to be inside because the heat was too much. Nevertheless I will be back to try to more items from their menu.

Absolutely amazing 5 star time at Josephine!…read more I had heard great things about this place and when some co-workers came into town, I knew I wanted to try this spot with them and I'm so glad I did! The restaurant is beautifully set up and a great vibe. We had Caylee as our server and she was so friendly and bubbly! We started off with some drinks and they were all delicious and had a fresh taste. For appetizers, we ordered family style and got the carpaccio, sourdough focaccia, and the 'nduja arancini with a goat cheese crema. The carpaccio and arancini were my favs but all were perfection! We also did some family style for the mains and got caesar salad, rigatoni bolognese, chicken 'nduja, and carrots with whipped ricotta. The rigatoni bolognese was sooo yummy! We saw the bartenders experimenting with drinks and asked which one it was that looked so good - I believe they called it a burrata cocktail or something but it was actually so good! They brought it out to us to try even though it's not on the menu yet, which was so kind. For desserts, we got the olive oil cake and tiramisu. Tiramisu is my all-time favorite dessert so I thought I was going to like that one better but I actually loved the olive oil cake so much. It was my first time having an olive oil cake but both of the desserts were heavenly. We also got to try some of their homemade chocolate that they brought out to us and those were all delicious as well with different flavors.
