    Pimento cheese burger
    Aiden S.

If you love diners and live in or around Avondale, then you need to try this spot. A classic diner with delicious food, I don't know how you could not love Fox. There's always a line for brunch on the weekend but it moves fast. My go-to is the tuna melt. I add bacon and red onion to it and it's delicious - gooey with crunchy bacon and thinly shaved red onion. I've watched them make it from the bar and was appalled by the insane amount of salt and butter, but it's so good I would still get it again. The pimento cheese burger is also excellent: cheesy and with a great sear - they cook it to medium which I would not necessarily ask for but I do like here. Onion rings are delicious. The booths are a fun place to sit at and admire all the hokey decorations. The bar is also a great spot if it's just you and a partner. This place is not large enough for a group bigger than four. Service is great - super friendly and funny. We have a great time every time we come here!

    Good coffee!

It was a Thursday morning around 9:30 and it was standing room only. In fact we had to wait outside and were the first in line (outside). It took about 25 minutes before we finally got seated, but I will give the owner kudos for continually checking on us from time to time while we waited and letting us know how much longer it would be before we got seated. The wait was worth it. I had biscuits and gravy with a side order of crispy bacon. It was all very satisfying and delicious. The endless coffee hit the spot. The old style diner played older music and made one feel super comfortable. There's bar seating as well as booths and tables inside. There's also a couple of small tables with seating outside, but in Florida's heat and humidity it's nice to sit inside this time of year. 5 stars for great food and exemplary service. Check them out, and get there early!

Breakfast but the entire menu is available at this time so you can order lunch items.

Great retro diner in Avondale. When you step inside, it feels like you're thrown back in time as if you're at a NYC or New Orleans diner with friendly staff. You can sit at the countertop in front of the grill. But my favorite part is that they serve the entire menu for breakfast. So you can order chili cheese fries if you wanted to start your day. Heads up: they don't serve alcohol so no mimosas. Highly recommend.

    Two pancake breakfast

I love a traditional american breakfast but i did not want to go to a regular diner, and that is how we can across this family owned restaurant less than 2 miles from our home. We had a two pancake breakfast and an omellete. The eggs are freshly cracked, the sausage tastes like heaven and does not compare to anything store bought, it tastes homemade! The pancakes had a nice toasty color on the bottom and also you can tell they make the batter every mornig. The biscuit was TO DIE FOR, it is sooooo soft and flavorful. We had it with the sausage gravy and it was a hit. The service was one of the best i have ever had. Very attentive, refilled my coffee as soon as it was half way, refilled our waters often, checked on us all the time and had such a positive energy that made it feel very welcoming and homey. The ambiance reminds me of a cozy home, every person that walked was so happy to be there, the staff love what they do and all the wall decor adds to the history of this restaurant. 10/10 experience!

Old school diner vibe and food. Sat at the counter. Wait staff knew customers names. Food was as expected. I had the corned beef hash with eggs and rye toast with a side of fruit. Coffee was only so so but that's how I feel about most coffee served in restaurants.

Love this original-Avondale place! Only a few booths and spots at the bar; therefore, you wait in a line outside the door! But no frets... the line moves smoothly & quickly! So many great brunch choices: corned beef hash, brioche French toast, omelets, etc! There are lunch choices as well. The decor is classic, eclectic 1950s. PS - The coffee is great! Plus, the waitresses are so attentive!

Bacon, cheese grits, and soft scrambled eggs.

I'll just say first off. I have no idea why this place isn't more popular. That being said I've heard about it for years and finally got around to trying it. When I first arrived I immediately felted welcomed because it felt like a diner with super great energy. The place was clean and just felt really at home. The servers or whomever was behind the bar asked me how many was eating in and told me to choose where I would like. I asked and pointed to confirm is a certain table was ok and they agreed. Upon sitting down we were promptly greeted and asked if we would like drinks. Those did not take long at all to come out. Then we ordered and were checked on at least once before our food arrived. Let me just say, I order scrambled eggs soft everywhere I go and very very few places have gotten them right. I didn't mention any of this and didn't even say anything more than just scrambled eggs soft. My eggs may not look like it from the picture but they were perfect! They were soft scrambled with a little runny in them exactly how I like them. My cheese grits were pretty normal and great. But the pancakes, they were way better than I was expecting. They were so good that I actually finished them all. As usually I only finish half and don't care to finish the rest. Absolutely can't wait to come back and try more items.

    Grilled cheese sandwich and chili
    Shan T.

My favorite go to diner. I'm a sucker for their chili with a grilled cheese sandwich! Comfort food in the exact right way. Teen enjoys the blueberry waffles with fresh fruit. Fruit is always a good mix and not simply the cheap melons. Place is killer with the vibes! The man at the door is by far the coolest hostess to exist. He makes every moment worth the wait; A riot of awesome waitstaff at this place! Every employee makes this special. Parking for this place can be dicey. Usually street side parking is available down Ingleside or Riverside and is a short walk across the street from the restaurant.

Went for the 1st time after years of living here. I know I'm late. But my friend advocated for the BLFGT served with blue cheese crumbles and a fried egg. I gotta say it is tasty. I loved the sauce on the sandwich it has great flavor and kick from the horseradish. And we got a side of biscuit and it was wise choice. Carbs on carbs. How do you go wrong.

    The French toast plate! Phenomenal!

What a fine! We were in the area and stumbled across the Fox restaurant. Ian, the owner happened to be there, I get the feeling he is there every day, and was beyond friendly. Our server,Sarah, provided incredible insight into the menu items. She has worked there for eight years! The food here is some of the best food I have ever had at a breakfast restaurant in my life. You could eat the gravy straight out of the bowl with nothing else it is that good! The French toast is some of the best French toast I've ever had. All of their food is fantastic and you cannot go wrong. The Fox restaurant has a family atmosphere and an old-school diner vibe to it. We will definitely be going back many, many, many times!

First time here, great diner atmosphere but could use some upkeep or a refresh. The back of my side of the booth caved in whenever I sat back too far. Came for breakfast and all three of us enjoyed our omelettes. The pesto on mine was a surprisingly good addition to all the vegetables, cheese and egg. The biscuit was big, fluffy and buttery. The potatoes were cooked well but had an unusual faint taste of cinnamon. The coffee was fantastic, always happy with a place that makes a great cup of regular coffee. Service was great, our waters and coffees were never empty.

Some restaurants surprise you with one great dish. Others deliver a memorable experience from start…read moreto finish. Our visit to Biscottis in Jacksonville's Avondale neighborhood managed to do both. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. Susan ordered the Quiche Lorraine, and after the first bite we both knew it was something special. The crust was delicate and buttery while the filling was rich and perfectly balanced. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. The service throughout the visit was cheerful and attentive, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you enjoy restaurants that combine great brunch dishes, incredible desserts, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere, Biscottis is definitely worth visiting.

Pretentious and overrated…read more I wanted to like this place - it has such a hype. But the food is terrible. The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

We arrived at the height of lunch and the line was constantly to the door or out of it but service was super fast with big smiles. We ordered the Charleston, Hurricane, fries, Mac n chz fry sauces of sweet datil and Cajun ranch, side of fresh jalepenos. The line to order is long but moves quickly. Seating is cramped but most people eat and leave, although I did notice a couple lingered for 30 minutes, plus. This is not a cozy, lingering cafe. Kinda eat your stuff and get out LOL. I mean customers standing in every available space waiting for a seat, staring at tables isn't ideal. It took 5minutes for a table to open up and less than about 30 minutes for them to call our name. Everything was as ordered, but they forgot the Cajun ranch - that was easily rectified, and I was able to get a glass for ice water at the same time. I'm not a fan of Diet Pepsi but if I could have tried a cheer wine or orange crush or milk shake, I would've! To me, the meat was unseasoned and unremarkable, I'm not a fan of juice smashed out of my beef but that's me, however, it was quality burger meat. What WILL blow you away is the real star-the toppings and unique combos, fries and fry sauces/toppings. I think I could have ordered a side of seasoning for burgers, or ordered it that way? This place is certainly worth further investigation. Looking to try the OBX, with added fresh jalapeños of course. The hot dogs look yummy too.

I still liked the avocado burger i got, but still needs more seasoning. The burger that was probably be best was The Riverside. It has this orange marmalade slathered on the patty, giving it a nice sweet and salty contrast. The staff were nice and fast for how packed the place was. We were able to get our food in about 20min, we ordered a lot though. The restaurant has a nice local vibe. Located in the middle of Riverside, a lot of locals in the neighborhood and in the city will come by.

My wife had the Breakfast Burrito, which I could've called from before we even walked in. If a place had a breakfast burrito, she's gonna order it. This one was great. There was a lot of good flavor packed into that tortilla. She especially liked the chili sauce on top. It had a little kick that elevated the whole thing. We both liked the environment and our server was very nice. We would come back for sure to try other things or just to hang out at the big outdoor bar at the front.

We went this past Friday and while they had the same great food (with one exception), same decor and vibe, it seemed as if the typically impeccable service was staring to slip. The staff was in a great mood, seemed to be having a party and maybe that was some of the issue. Drinks not filled, food brought out a different points when we asked for it to be brought together etc. One of the guests requested their sauce on the side and it came right on top of her cold steak. We had to constantly grab anyone who worked there to get help and get served or drink refills. Very atypical of Prospect. I'm reviewing again to be constructive. I still love Prospect and I need them to be the excellent experience they have always been. I'm truly hoping this was a one off afternoon.
