we went to carolina jax for dinner and it didn't disappoint One of my biggest pet peeves is when burger places don't put enough seasoning/salt on their patty, this one did alright. I still liked the avocado burger i got, but still needs more seasoning. The burger that was probably be best was The Riverside. It has this orange marmalade slathered on the patty, giving it a nice sweet and salty contrast. The staff were nice and fast for how packed the place was. We were able to get our food in about 20min, we ordered a lot though. The restaurant has a nice local vibe. Located in the middle of Riverside, a lot of locals in the neighborhood and in the city will come by. read more

This is a small fast casual spot that I believe will soon be expanding! It's a "we're gonna need a bigger boat" situation, in a very good way. Very friendly service! We arrived at the height of lunch and the line was constantly to the door or out of it but service was super fast with big smiles. Seating is cramped but most people eat and leave, although I did notice a couple lingered for 30 minutes, plus. This is not a cozy, lingering cafe. Kinda eat your stuff and get out LOL. I mean customers standing in every available space waiting for a seat, staring at tables isn't ideal. It took 5minutes for a table to open up and less than about 30 minutes for them to call our name. Everything was as ordered, but they forgot the Cajun ranch - that was easily rectified, and I was able to get a glass for ice water at the same time. I'm not a fan of Diet Pepsi but if I could have tried a cheer wine or orange crush or milk shake, I would've! To me, the meat was unseasoned and unremarkable, I'm not a fan of juice smashed out of my beef but that's me, however, it was quality burger meat. What WILL blow you away is the real star-the toppings and unique combos, fries and fry sauces/toppings. I think I could have ordered a side of seasoning for burgers, or ordered it that way? Just a heads up -- this isn't the kind of place where you casually walk in and grab a table. It's more of a "hover and wait for something to open up" situation. We placed our order first, then waited for both a table and our food. We ordered the Kismet Burger (voted #1 in Jax) and the burger fries. The Kismet burger was an unexpected combination, but it worked. It had that sweet-and-savory balance with a creamy sauce that pulled everything together. It sounds like a lot on paper, but it absolutely delivers. Definitely a must-try. The burger fries were over the top in the best way. Cheese sauce, their Jax sauce, honey mustard, bacon, and hamburger meat -- it's indulgent, but so good. If you love loaded fries, these are hard to beat. I'd order them again without thinking twice. Service was just okay -- nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The dining area could've used more attention. The tea dispenser was dripping and pooling tea, and the staff didn't seem sure how to handle it and left it there. We also noticed a small roach walking along the wall near the pickup counter where food was being placed. We quietly mentioned it to the cashier, but didn't see anyone address it. I'm not sharing that to damage their reputation -- the food truly is good and I know pest control is an ongoing battle in restaurants. Came here after seeing a food review of this spot on TikTok. When we first arrived, the line was almost out the door and seating was tight. I waited in line about 15-20 min to order. We managed to get a table to eat. I ordered a cheeseburger plain for the kids, bacon cheddar, and a black mountain, with a basket of fries and a side of Jax special fries. The burgers were AMAZING!!! I had such high hopes based on past reviews. It's hard to choose here because they have a bunch of burgers on the menu. I went with the classic with everything on it. I couldn't taste the burger it felt I ate a bread with lettuce and tomatoes. I did not taste the meat because there was barely any. I believe you have to order a double here. The basket of Parmesan fries was definitely very good! The place was packed and the people next to me said the same thing burger was just okay. The place is laid out wrong. You can't get around people when it's busy. I ate outside because no tables inside and had no garbage there. Also I had to go inside and get napkins to clean the table afterwards. I left a good tip on my CC and had to do everything myself. Get in line to order food, p/u food, get condiments, take food tray and garbage inside and then clean my table. Lunch with my DS today over in Riverside and so we stopped in at Carolina Jax. It was fairly busy but we found a table easily. My DS placed the order at the counter and it didn't take much time at all for our order to come up. My DS ordered the "Black Mountain Burger" and I had my usual "Patty Melt." My DS had also ordered some "Cajun Bacon Ranch Loaded Fries" for the table. My DS enjoyed his burger, stating it had great flavor and he loved the mushrooms on it. Really disappointing experience. I was excited to see on Facebook that the Blue Devil burger was back because it used to be one of my favorites. Because we wanted the toppings/sauces on the side, we had to place the order in person instead of over the phone. My husband picked up our order and specifically asked for everything on the side. He even spoke with management, and they approved it. But when he got home, everything was still on the burger anyway. It was made completely wrong, and by the time it got home, it was soggy too. I emailed them about the issue hoping they would at least try to make it right, but that didn't happen. The response was basically about efficiency, food costs, and portion control, which completely missed the point. If management approves a request, the order should actually be made that way. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place anymore. The customer service was awful, management handled it poorly, and we won't be coming back. read more

Carolina Jax has incredibly good burgers. I originally went years ago and hadn't gone again until recently when a friend suggested it. They have a great selection of burgers with many types of toppings. They have some creative burgers that you will not get anywhere else but they also have classics. I like the mushroom burger. It was very good. I like the quality of meat the use. They also smash the patty but it doesn't get dried out. The bun is good as well. The fries are good and the onion rings are very tasty. There are about 12 tables inside and a few outside so it can get really packed inside. There is a lot of hustle inside and it isn't the place for quiet conversation. I guess my only issue is the wait times. It is not uncommon to wait a good 15-20 minutes for a burger so while it's not a dealbreaker, this sometimes isn't ideal on a lunch break or if you need something quick. The employees are so hard working, they never stop and that is nice to see. They are attentive when ordering and answer any questions you have. read more

On some days the burger is amazing - best in Jacksonville. But on other days the same burger is disappointing. Inconsistent is the word. We've been here many times, and loved it at first. I get the same burger almost every time. I've tried a few others - the fried onion, the hurricane (mac and cheese is delicious), the Carolina (didn't like the slaw). But I'm a classic burger guy, and that's what I usually order. It has been amazing on some days, but not on others. The problem is the patty. They cook their patties extremely inconsistently. It can be way too dense, even lumpy, and it can be served without any sear as if it was not on the stove long enough. Yet other days it is perfectly seared. The difference matters. A burger without a sear is a burger I can't be happy about. Management may want to reexamine the way they run the line - it is not only inefficient but invites a lot of room for error. Avoid peak hours. The wait can be super long when this place gets busy. The loaded fries are awesome. If ordering for two, get a half size, they are gigantic. read more

Went to Jacksonville this weekend to visit our sailor at Mayport Naval Base during his liberty pass. Decided on lunch at Carolina Jax due to being in the area, along with the reviews and pictures of their food on sites like Google. We arrived shortly after they opened and got a parking spot out front. Their prices were appropriate and they have a good variety of food on the menu, along with a clean, moderately sized dining room. We placed our orders, which included the Old Timer and Bacon Cheddar burgers, along with a chocolate shake, onion rings and Jax cheese and bacon fries. While ordering, I asked if they had a military discount, as it was Veterans Day weekend, I am a disabled Army Veteran and my son, is active-duty Navy, to which she replied, "Only if you are in uniform". For the record, neither my son, nor I are entitled and don't expect businesses to provide this discount. I would normally have just accepted that fact; however, the base is over 21 miles and 38 minutes away (too far for a lunch destination). This policy is just a way to avoid showing appreciation to the men and women serving our country and, in my opinion, a slap in the face to their dedication to the people of the United States. It amazes me how so many people claim to be "Patriots", but don't understand the meaning of the word and fail to even acknowledge their service, which the cashier didn't even make the attempt. Moving on, the food came out quickly and the burgers, drinks and onion rings were excellent. The fries were also very good and not over cooked; however, because they use shredded cheddar, the side shortly became a solid block and nacho cheese would be of better use to resolve this issue. Over the twenty or so minutes we ate our food, the dining room got busy and along with the music from the kitchen, became almost too loud to have a conversation.
