SO GOOD! Burgers were amazing and the Cajun fries were so good! Our mac came out kinda cold but the flavor made up for it. We dipped our fries into it. Service was quick considering how busy it was on a Friday night. Definitely will be going back.
My sister had recommended Carolina Jax on a previous trip to Jax, however they had been closed. This trip we were looking for a decent lunch and decided to head over. There was a decent amount of parking which I was surprised about given the location. The line was to the door when we arrived. The line went pretty quickly, about 5 minutes to get our order taken. I opted for the Hurricane burger, my son opted for a basic cheeseburger with only pickle. We also ordered fries and onion rings for the table. Our food took about 15 minutes, during this time, we saw a tray of fries sitting in the window. We were hoping it was not our order as they would be cold by the time our burgers were completed, however they called us and sure enough it was ours. We touched the fries and they were very cold. We told the employee, who knew the issue and they remade the fries. I'm glad they didn't make an issue about it, but also disappointing because the employees thought it was okay to even serve cold fries. The burgers were fantastic. The hurricane had so much flavor, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. The onion rings were good and the fries were decent. My son loved his burger and the rest of the family enjoyed their meal. It was a nice lunch and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
Happened to be over by St V's around 11am so the line wasn't too crazy just yet. I've heard lots a great things about this spot and finally decided to give it a go. The burger was delicious and get why folks frequent this spot. It's a good size with loads of toppings. I don't like fries so the Mac n cheese side option excited me. Sadly the Mac n cheese was a miss. For starters the portion was about two to three bites for $6 it's already in a small cup so why it was less than half full I couldn't tell ya. The crew was super nice, they offered a different side and getting my order was quick. So as for customer service they got it down! I'll be back for the burgers and will make my spouse order them fries.
It's been a minute since I visited Carolina Jax. We arrived prior to opening and the line was long. Fresh cooked food came out in no time. The burger was delicious, onion rings so good and fresh made Ice Tea so refreshing. See ya again soon!
This is a small fast casual spot that I believe will soon be expanding! It's a "we're gonna need a bigger boat" situation, in a very good way. Very friendly service! We arrived at the height of lunch and the line was constantly to the door or out of it but service was super fast with big smiles. We ordered the Charleston, Hurricane, fries, Mac n chz fry sauces of sweet datil and Cajun ranch, side of fresh jalepenos. The line to order is long but moves quickly. Seating is cramped but most people eat and leave, although I did notice a couple lingered for 30 minutes, plus. This is not a cozy, lingering cafe. Kinda eat your stuff and get out LOL. I mean customers standing in every available space waiting for a seat, staring at tables isn't ideal. It took 5minutes for a table to open up and less than about 30 minutes for them to call our name. Everything was as ordered, but they forgot the Cajun ranch - that was easily rectified, and I was able to get a glass for ice water at the same time. I'm not a fan of Diet Pepsi but if I could have tried a cheer wine or orange crush or milk shake, I would've! To me, the meat was unseasoned and unremarkable, I'm not a fan of juice smashed out of my beef but that's me, however, it was quality burger meat. What WILL blow you away is the real star-the toppings and unique combos, fries and fry sauces/toppings. I think I could have ordered a side of seasoning for burgers, or ordered it that way? This place is certainly worth further investigation. Looking to try the OBX, with added fresh jalapeños of course. The hot dogs look yummy too.

My friend got a burger with jalapeños on it that were supposed to be grilled and they were basically raw so that kinda sucked. But otherwise, the food was great. Parking I can see being an issue on the weekends or in the school year. But we went on a weekday in the summer. The keylime sauce they had on my burger was super refreshing.

Just a heads up -- this isn't the kind of place where you casually walk in and grab a table. It's more of a "hover and wait for something to open up" situation. We placed our order first, then waited for both a table and our food. We ordered the Kismet Burger (voted #1 in Jax) and the burger fries. The Kismet burger was an unexpected combination, but it worked. It had that sweet-and-savory balance with a creamy sauce that pulled everything together. It sounds like a lot on paper, but it absolutely delivers. Definitely a must-try. The burger fries were over the top in the best way. Cheese sauce, their Jax sauce, honey mustard, bacon, and hamburger meat -- it's indulgent, but so good. If you love loaded fries, these are hard to beat. I'd order them again without thinking twice. Service was just okay -- nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The dining area could've used more attention. The tea dispenser was dripping and pooling tea, and the staff didn't seem sure how to handle it and left it there. We also noticed a small roach walking along the wall near the pickup counter where food was being placed. We quietly mentioned it to the cashier, but didn't see anyone address it. I'm not sharing that to damage their reputation -- the food truly is good and I know pest control is an ongoing battle in restaurants. It just seemed like something that needed immediate attention and a quicker response in the moment. The food lives up to the hype. Just be prepared for a crowd and hopefully they tighten up a few cleanliness details
Food is good - fries a little cold. Burgers are ok. Patty melt ok. Like diner food. Smashed so hard all the flavor (fat) is gone. We come here because it's convenient. Packets of condiments are low class IMO.

We managed to get a table to eat. I ordered a cheeseburger plain for the kids, bacon cheddar, and a black mountain, with a basket of fries and a side of Jax special fries. The burgers were AMAZING!!! I see why the line was out the door! The restaurant definitely had an original feel to it and I loved that. I will definitely be going back to try more burgers!!

A great place for the burger connoisseur! A fun menu with lots of interesting flavor combinations. We enjoyed our loaded fries and delicious burgers! I prefer pickled jalapeños over fresh grilled ones since I can no longer take the heat I once could but the flavors were still good. Our cooked to order burgers came out quickly... very little wait. I'm looking forward to trying a float or shake the next time. Not alot of available parking in this area in general so that is certainly a downside but overall a great experience!
So we headed out for sushi in Avondale but there was a festival and lines every where and no parking. So we decided on smash burgers. I had the kismet - omg the combo with the hot honey had me inhaling it. We also tried their Mac and cheese. It has a hint of chipotle but it's not hot, noodles perfectly cooked and plenty of creamy sauce - so delicious and topped with bacon bits(real). There was a line to order when we came in, tons of take out orders and a dozen table in and outside. With all that once we ordered it only took a few minutes for our order. There were 5 people in the open kitchen and 2 order takers. The decor is pretty much burger joint. Not a bunch of space between the tables. read more
Hubby had a last minute emergency call to one of his properties this evening after getting home for the day, so we decided to hop in the truck, go knock out the work and then grab a burger from our favorite burget spot in Jax, Carolina Jax I got the Hurricane which comes with white American, grilled jalapenos, white cheddar Mac, bacon, and Chipotle sauce. This was my first time getting this burger and I loved every last CRUMB of this burger. I tend to switch it up every time I come because of much I enjoy the burgers (and the chicken sandwich), but this just may be my go-to going forward because man, was this crazy good. Hubby got his usual which is the OBX. That comes with poblano mayo, cajun ranch, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and keylime guacamole. He literally gets this every single time and never deviates. We usually split a tray of the bacon ranch fries but we decided to switch it up a little and get the nachos fries. While the nachos fries were great, we both agreed that we like the bacon ranch ones much more. We also agreed that next time, we're going to get the Jax Style fries and compare those as well. We got here around 8pm and as per usual the line was out the door and stayed that way through the duration of our meal. It's not difficult to see why their voted Number 1 in Jax. read more

First time here and was pleasantly surprised in how delicious the burger was! I ordered a classic burger with cheese and basket of fries. Fresh tasting and scrumptious. Fast friendly service was available at this counter service restaurant. Although it was busy, we were able to find a table with plenty of room to eat. The brick wall interior, neon lights, and farmhouse decorations gave it a fun atmosphere. Very enjoyable read more

First visit to Carolina Jax, but it definitely won't be our last. Parking is definitely a challenge but worth it. I got the Black Mountain Signature burger and a side of Cajun fries with nacho dip. The pic doesn't do it justice! The burger was hot, tasty, and messy, absolutely perfect. I can't wait to come back and try something new. read more

Carolina Jax has that small, nostalgic burger-joint feel, but don't let the size fool you--the menu is packed with burgers, fries, shakes, and plenty of options to choose from. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings, and we shared fries for the table. I also got the Jax sauce on the side since it was supposed to come on the burger. First things first...that burger was chef's kiss! The beef tasted fresh and flavorful, and everything was cooked perfectly. I'll admit, I was a little hesitant at first because the bun felt cool and not as soft as I expected. It didn't seem toasted or grilled, but once I bit into it, I was pleasantly surprised--it was soft and complemented the burger really well. The fries? So, so, SO good! Easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. The Jax sauce was good too. I could definitely taste the horseradish, and while I didn't put it on my burger, it made an excellent dipping sauce. The onion rings were equally tasty. We went during lunch hours, and despite the crowd, our food came out quickly. Great food, friendly atmosphere, and definitely a place I'll be visiting again. read more
I had such high hopes based on past reviews. It's hard to choose here because they have a bunch of burgers on the menu. I went with the classic with everything on it. I couldn't taste the burger it felt I ate a bread with lettuce and tomatoes. I did not taste the meat because there was barely any. I believe you have to order a double here. The basket of Parmesan fries was definitely very good! The place was packed and the people next to me said the same thing burger was just okay. The place is laid out wrong. You can't get around people when it's busy. I ate outside because no tables inside and had no garbage there. Also I had to go inside and get napkins to clean the table afterwards. I left a good tip on my CC and had to do everything myself. Get in line to order food, p/u food, get condiments, take food tray and garbage inside and then clean my table. Honestly the experience is not worth coming back. Yesterday I had an 8 oz steak with fries and salad for less than what I ordered. read more

This place was off the charts!! From the greeting to the food A++. This by far is one of the BEST burgers I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I've been trying burger places for over 40 years from Hawaii to New York and all I can say is WOW, don't walk, run here it's great!! read more

Favorite burger in Jax. Worth the drive to Riverside if you are not in the area but it is starting to get crazy busy on the weekends. Everything on the menu is amazing but sweet potato fries are a must! read more
Smash Burgers = This is easiest my newest favorite burger joint in Jacksonville! Service is superb, but hey have outdoor seating so its great for pet owners. They have burgers, hotdogs, fries and more! Cant wait to go back! read more

Carolina Jax has incredibly good burgers. I originally went years ago and hadn't gone again until recently when a friend suggested it. They have a great selection of burgers with many types of toppings. They have some creative burgers that you will not get anywhere else but they also have classics. I like the mushroom burger. It was very good. I like the quality of meat the use. They also smash the patty but it doesn't get dried out. The bun is good as well. The fries are good and the onion rings are very tasty. There are about 12 tables inside and a few outside so it can get really packed inside. There is a lot of hustle inside and it isn't the place for quiet conversation. I guess my only issue is the wait times. It is not uncommon to wait a good 15-20 minutes for a burger so while it's not a dealbreaker, this sometimes isn't ideal on a lunch break or if you need something quick. The employees are so hard working, they never stop and that is nice to see. They are attentive when ordering and answer any questions you have. read more

What chemical is used to clean the establishment? It is pretty intoxicating
You can thank JEA for that one. They came to inspect our grease trap today and didn’t properly seal the lid. We are trying our best to get the odor under control and I have instructed my team to use air fresheners through the day.
