The staff were friendly and the menu had your usual breakfast fare and classic American lunch options such as eggs, bacon, toast, burgers, fries, hotdogs, pitas, etc. Turns out, my partner knew someone who worked here as well. I got the Giant Cheeseburger, while he doubled down with the Giant double cheeseburger, both with seasoned fries. The fries were delicious, crispy and fresh. There breakfast pitas are a little smaller ( they used not to be back in the day ) than the competition, they do taste good but the reason why I'm giving them such a low rating is because they charge you for using your card without telling you which I feel is dishonest. Very few things are as good if not better than when " We Was Kids" I lived in Jax about 45 years ago and once a week or so we would get a steak in a sack and a Cherry limeade. Normally I love this place. I have been going there since I was a kid and my husband as well. We are in our late 50's. We both get our steak in a sack sandwiches the same in all these years. I want cheese, onions, peppers and no mayo. Never have we asked for lettuce and tomato on it. Yuck! Today he got home with our order and we discovered lettuce, tomato and mayo with no onions and peppers on the steak n sack. I decided to call and tell manager because this is the third time they in some way messed up the order. When I spoke to the manager I was not upset, mad or rude. I just felt they needed to know that they messed up. She was immediately rude and raised her voice to me saying that they don't put tomato and lettuce on those sandwiches and that my husband HAD to have ordered it that way. I tried to tell her again that we have been ordering them the same way for years. She interuppted me and insisted we had to have ordered it like that. She was speaking loud and was very snotty. She kept insisting they don't put that stuff on the steak in sack. I told her I know that. That is why I am calling you in case maybe they gave us someone else's order. She was still rude and at that point I pointed out she was being rude and had only called to make them aware that someone there had not made them correctly again. My favorite go to spot for breakfast when I'm on the go. I always order the egg, grits and sausage with toast. There is a lot of food so it is a 2 meal deal for me. The drive through is pretty fast. The cherry limeade is my favorite drink. When I go for lunch I normally order the camel rider which is my favorite sandwich of all times. The staff is nice. There is a inside where you can dine. Right off the bat I realized how popular this location was. When I pulled up the drive through line was very long for a lunch rush. The service was fast and staff knowledgeable. Not to mention the killer prices! I orderes the Camel Rider not as a combo with water for $5.88. It was a generous portion heavy on the mayo and a bit messy but delicious. Clientele was primarily blue collar heavily geared towards the service industry croud. Pros: Excellent place for breakfast and lunch on the run. Good for groups. Family owned local Jacksonville staple with eight locations. Heard the cherry limeade is a must to try. Cons: The parking was very tight with close proximity to the drive through made me worry about someone swiping your car. This Duval county staple is a must try when in the Jacksonville area. The inside seating was closed due to Covid but the take out and drive thru were operating fully. When I first moved to Jax, I found an article on 100 things to do here. One of them was to get a camel rider or a steak in a sack from the Sheik. Guess how long it took me to try it? 3 years. Yeah, I know. I was undecided on what I'm having for lunch one day, and this place popped up in my head! I hopped into my car, pulled into the parking lot, and opened the door to this famous establishment. I was greeted with a really, really awful smell. Like frying oil that has been used one too many times, and grime that hasn't been wiped in some time. A place that will make you want to throw your clothes in the wash right afterwards. I grit my teeth, made the smart decision of ordering my food to-go, and headed home. The first bite into that beautiful steak in a sack was amazing. It's so good! I'd totally go through that (traumatic) experience, or maybe try another location, for another taste. The camel rider, on the other hand, was good, but nothing extraordinary. Fries were meh. My first Pita was many many years ago at this very place . Piled high with meats and cheese good things never change or at least you hope they will not change.. The only thing that I saw that has changed was the Lime Aid of fresh squeezed limes mixed with a cherry . The pita was stuffed full of steaming steak, grilled onions, bellpeppers and Swiss cheese. Oh man!!! I thought I was a fan of Jacksonville's original sandwich, the "Camel Rider," but the "Steak in a Sack" was deliciously savory and literally had me bopping up and down in my seat with happiness! While the fries at their Orange Park location is BETTER, my table mates and I couldn't get enough of their home made french fry seasoning and made multiple trips to cover our fries (and sandwiches) with it! The customer service was also outstanding! We were greeted immediately upon entering, the cashier was informative, and we were thanked upon leaving. This is a local chain that I would have given 4 stars, If it wasn't for the dirtiness of the dining area. Interestingly, many locals are wild about this place. To me, it's just a fast food joint. The pita bread tasted awesome, the steak slices were pretty good, and the onions were sauteed. My son's burger looked pretty tasty, too. Fries were average. With the really low prices (average is about $4) and good fast food, it's no wonder why plenty of people frequent this place and remain loyal locals. Pretty solid fast food joint with various options available all day. If I'm in the mood for a hot breakfast in the cooler months I'll go for the bowl of grits with eggs, cheese and sausage. I usually order the chicken pita pocket which is yummy at this location. I've ordered the same dish at another location and it was not as good, a bit dry and not as well seasoned, so each location may be individually owned and operated, which the only annoyance with this chain. He did it again, my husband "surprised" me with lunch from The Sheik. This time, though, he bought two "steak in a sacks" and did not show me the sales receipt. Very simple sandwich, shredded beef, sauteed onions, topped with cheese in a 1/2 pita pocket. The beef was very tender and was spiced up a bit, not hot, but definitely noticeable. It was greasy and drippy but it sure tasted good. This time, the majority of fries ended up coming home with him (he ate the last batch lol) but they were rather ordinary. I do recommend the "steak in a sack" if you like that sort of sandwich, and I upped my rating by 1 star. read more

Came here to try a camel rider. Won't review the sandwich because it is what it is and as far as I can tell this is the authentic place to get one. That said, I'm sure the ingredients could be improved upon if someone wanted to make a more modern take on the camel rider. Staff was very friendly, food came out fast, everything was as advertised. But let's be clear, this is a fast food place with a drive thru. I review all "original" places five stars because they are authentic.
