Stopped in for lunch with my family at this local westside location located in a Publix Shopping Center. I had not been here in several months and I was surprised by how many open tables they had at the end of the lunch rush. We were greeted upon entering and our party of five was seated at a 6 top in the back of the restaurant. This small room in the back is honestly one of my favorite places to sit as it is away from the hustle and bustle of the main dining area. Over server (Lauren) was polite, cheerful and considerate. She promptly took our drink orders and then took our meal orders without missing a beat even when there were modifications or special requests. While we were waiting on our food, drinks did run dry which was the only hiccup of the whole meal. When our food arrived, everything was well prepared and visually appealing. We ordered the following: 1. Half order of chicken and waffles (white meat only) with syrup, butter, etc on the side 2. Cheeseburger without onion and fries 3. Cheeseburger without onion and tomato and fries 4. Club with onion rings 5. Cheesesteak with onion rings My club was a great sandwich and their onion rings are top notch. It was a filling meal for a big eater. My wife always gets the chicken and waffles and likes that you can get it in a half order with your choice of white meat only, dark meat only or chicken tenders. Two of my kids got cheeseburgers and they were dripping with melted cheese (not even sure the 16 yr old tasted his he inhaled it so fast). My other son got a steak and cheese on a sub roll with onion rings and I stole a bite - it was really good. At the end of the meal, you pay your check table-side through the toast app via a QR code on your phone. Or you can pay with a scanner. Service at breakfast Monday was quick, friendly and excellent. Portions are large. We both took home half of our items. My husband had Biscuits and gravy topped with eggs with hash browns. The hash browns were not well cooked. Skip those. Try home fries if you want potatoes. Eggs properly cooked, biscuits and gravy good. I tried the corned beef hash special with eggs and biscuit. The hash is real not canned - but to me just not allot of flavor. Eggs properly cooked and biscuit good. Plenty of parking in shopping center. read more

Whenever we are in Jacksonville we hit up a Metro Diner. The one we usually go to is much smaller than this one, so this was a nice surprise. The dining room was completely full, but the patio had tables available so that's where we sat (the weather was gorgeous). As per usual, the service was excellent, as was the food. Hubby and I each had the Bissell meal. I'm a sucker for Metro Diner pancakes! I would recommend this place 10/10 times. read more

My first visit to this Metro Diner! It was pretty busy for a weekday afternoon but we only waited 5 minutes for a table for 2 and were greeted by our server immediately once seated. I would've given 5 stars if not for the fact that they didn't have the pot roast that my dad wanted. It literally was one of the featured dishes of the day and they were out of it already by 1230 in the afternoon. I guess it must be pretty good. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it truly did not disappoint. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside deliciousness served with their tobasco and maple syrup mix. If you've never tried it, you are missing out. Also the waffles are fluffy and yummy topped with their so good strawberry butter! I highly recommend. Used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Tonight I found that we can no longer split a meal because their food now comes proportioned in a bag. We told them to bring it and a plate and we split it ourselves. Shoney's quit cooking at their restaurants and went to proportioned food in a bag, and most of them are gone. We quit going there. Instead of getting 2 deserts here we are going somewhere else to get dessert in fear they are prepackaged in bags also. Also service in evening is nothing near as good as in the mornings. Not very attentive. Did not check on us but one time and I had to ask for checks so we could leave. 3 tables were more than she could handle. read more

We really used to love this place and have been with them since their inception. It's just gone down hill. We've had so many incidents we have over looked such as fried fish fried with cellophane still on it, hoping they were just flukes. No more. Tonight we ordered delivery, Baby back ribs and chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie was not cooked properly. The chicken was raw and rubbery and the top was browned wet dough. The baby back ribs were microwaved. The slab was a rubbery puck. I through it on the plate to show the texture to my wife. It hit the kitchen floor and bounced remaining all In one piece. The dog approached it but didn't even go for it. There was no sauce yet colored as once sauced perhaps years ago after being cooked and frozen with it. I could not pull a single rib apart. I had to cut each rib with a knife. Never in my life have I ever seen a rib with tough, whiter than snow meat like a chicken breast. I only took one bite. Simply, I'm not eating this! The fries were placed under the slab of "ribs" and delivered in a sealed plastic case so I received wet slimy, limp potato slugs. Im sure they were microwaved with the ribs. A 6.00 fruit cup got me 3 pieces of pineapple rind, 1 grape, 1shaved slice of strawberry, exactly two pieces of cantalope (1 inch) and 1 piece of honeydew (1.5) inch. I also received 1 tablespoon of coleslaw in a 1 cup round container, no lie. Someone is high. Either the day glow haired, nose ring wearing staff or the Corporation who purchased this establishment don't give a damn about us. Whoever made this food saw it, whoever packed this food saw it and let it all go out the door! We're done, Never again! BEWARE read more

We went there due to their 4.5 yelp rating on their corn beef and cabbage. The corned beaf was soo tough as were the veggies. Carrots and cabbage had to be cut with a knife. Chicken & waffles are usually GREAT. BUT tonight the chicken tasted like it was fried in old oil and the waffles were ice cold Strawberry butter did not melt on them. Very disappointed. For some reason the waitresses that I prefer do not wait on me every time. I pay over $15 with tips. The wait for a 2nd cup of coffee for 15 minutes. The waitress doesn't show interest. My budget is already stretched. If I am going to spend over $2,000 per year at the Metro, then service attitude and a friendly smile would be nice. This particular Metro Diner is located at Roosevelt, they have their own parking spot and easy to find. We have been here many times and stopped going. My friend and I decided to go here on a saturday afternoon, I did not know that they are busy and we waited for a table. Once we got our table we waited for a few minutes before getting served, usually they are quick but I guess they were just very busy. I ordered the omellete and my friend order the chicken pot pie. we both like it our order and I kept forgetting to go here since they have good food and the price is actually not to bad. We came back! However, we all ordered something different. I had the crusade French toast with blueberries. It was light and flaky with just the right amount of powdered trigger. We started with the avocado toast with bacon and red onion. Which was not disappointing. He had the chicken and waffles. They were served with a hot sauce syrup, and strawberry butter. The chicken was hot, crispy and juicy. The waffle was a malted waffle, which we always love. Our waitress was efficient, polite, and professional. The atmosphere was all a buzz as it was a Sunday morning. The staff handled the crowd well. It is a little loud in there with so many people, but manageable. Also had a burger....meat tastes frozen and they can't even bother to toast a bun.....just grab it out of the bag. Onion rings also frozen. That seem to be chasing franchise fees and have stopped caring about the customer or quality. I have tried to keep loving it here for occasional fast diner dishes The Cajun chicken pasta is a big NO and maybe rethink the name for the sake of Cajun chefs everywhere. I added red pepper and black pepper to make it even a little spicy. I have also been disappointed several times over the burgers and fried chicken. The waffle was soft n fluffy, the omelet was thick n full of meat (ham, bacon and sausage). The atmosphere was typical modern diner (at the Roosevelt location). The staff is friendly. Horrible product, UNCOOKED CHICKEN! 5/12/24 Haven't had metro diner in a while and decided to have it for Mother's Day brunch at home. Where I could enjoy great food, but without the crowd. Well we did an over the phone order for the chicken and waffle family pack to go. $49 before tax We were told it would take an hour, no worries! My husband had picked it and brought it home. I was super excited to have this meal for Mother's Day! We opened the container that in came in to be really sad to see that the waffles were extremely soggy and wet due to the heat from the hot fresh chicken. They put the chicken and waffles in a foiled sealed container. The skin on the chicken was also moist. We called up the location to complain about the quality of our food. We were told we could come back for fresh waffle. But at the point it's late. So we asked to talk to a manager and was told they were all on the line cooking and would give us a call back. We still haven't gotten a call back. To make matters worse! Most of the chicken was undercooked! Like eww. I'm soooo disappointed in the quality of order I received. So I guess it is my destiny to eat at all of the Metro Diners in the Jacksonville area. There could be worse things in life to do, eating at Metro diner is not on anyone's worse list. These places are consistently amazing. On my visit here I decided the Western Omlet was the delishousness that I needed and was I right. Yummy overload. The omlet was overflowing with so much on the insides to the outsides I could have shared it...but I didn't. Too good! Then they topped it with tasty salsa oh my so good. This monster of a breakfast was also served with crispy fried potatoes but I had hardly any room for those delicious morsels but I did manage to eat a few. Our waitress was on the spot with refills when the drinks got low and was very attentive and quick to take away the dishes when our meal was finished. Apple cobbler was the dessert of the day but there was not a square inch of tummy space for another bite to fit.
