    Date night at Josephine's
    Hazel K.

This is definitely one of our favorite restaurant. We would go here for dinner date, birthdays, and dinner with friends. To be honest we tried most of their dishes and we absolutely love them all! But my all time favorite is the black ink squid. It never fails me every time I order it I just kept falling in love with it. Service is another reason why we always go here because we know we will get amazing service. As you all know Josephine's is located at Avondale and parking is a little bit harder to find especially on the weekends. But other than that this is a great recommendation if you are looking for a Well deserved dinner.

Great Italian restaurant! Very good food and service. Had dinner with a couple of friends on Saturday and very much enjoyed our meal. We shared the Heirloom tomato & stracciatella and carrots for our appetizers and the star was the carrots! It was cooked perfectly and all the flavors were delicious. The whipped ricotta, Calabrian chili crunch and wildflower honey were masterfully concocted together with the carrots. I will dream of this. For my entree I ordered the meatballs and sourdough focaccia. Separately, very good but better together! For dessert we shared the lemon tart and it was super refreshing and tart. Come for amazing Italian food! Restaurant wasn't too loud and had a very cute decor.

There will never be any Josephine slander because oh my God from the food to the service to the ambiance an absolute 10/10! We've gone twice once for a cocktail making class which was such an awesome experience. And then we returned for a date night. The Lamb Ragu was chefs kiss, the carrots were delicious, & the focaccia bread I would eat every day. Josephine might just have a special place in my heart.

We were really excited to try this spot and overall had a good experience, especially when it came to the atmosphere and service. The vibe is fun. Great ambiance, and the drinks were tasty! You can tell they really put thought into creating a fun, welcoming space. The service truly stood out. Our reservation ran about 10 minutes late, and without us even mentioning it, they brought out complimentary drinks just to apologize. That was such an unexpected and thoughtful touch, it immediately set a positive tone for the night. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind the entire evening. Food wise, it was a bit mixed. The Caesar salad with anchovies was absolutely delicious, perfectly dressed and packed with flavor. The bread was soft, warm, and fresh, which we loved. My husband ordered the ribeye and it was flavorful with a great smoky taste that really made the dish. Unfortunately, the crab and shrimp pasta missed the mark for me. I'm a huge seafood fan, but the flavor was overwhelmingly fishy and mostly tasted like crab without much balance or seasoning to round it out. It just lacked depth, and I couldn't get past the overpowering taste. I'm glad we gave this place a try because the service and atmosphere were truly wonderful, but based on the food, it's probably not somewhere we'd return.

We decided to do a ladies night here since none of us have tried this restaurant. First, the ambiance is very romantic, dimmed lights, beautiful leather booths and the bar area is amazing. Our waitress Gabby was phenomenal, attentive but not overly. She made great recommendations since we were all new and food and drinks came out in good timing. She was super friendly and provided such great service. I tried the Rogatoni with shrimp and the sauce was spicy which I loved, pasta was a lil al dente but I like it that way. My friends raved about the Alfredo and lasagna and I tasted both and would definitely come back and get the lasagna. I have never had it pinwheeled before but the seasoning and flavor were great like someone's Italian grandma was back there making it. I can tell why its a favorite on the menu. It is a little pricey but nice for a date night or ladies night

We always have a great time at Josephine. The food and drinks are always on point. I especially love the green velvet and the old fashioned both are consistently great. The carpaccio is a must try every time we go. Their pastas are stand out dishes with quality ingredients. And shoutout to Joe for being such a great server and always taking good care of us!

First let me start by saying, our server was the bees knees. I believe her name was Callahan (sorry if the spelling is wrong!) The food was absolutely amazing. I will attach pictures with everything we had! The drinks were also amazing!! The new fall cocktail menu was so fun. The vibes, lighting and ambiance were nothing short of perfect. It did get a little warm for some reason, but it got better as the night went on! We will be back!!

Loved dining at Josephine for vegan food. Compressed Cucumber Tartinas - almond ricotta, Sicilian chili crunch, fried sourdough, fresh chervil Eggplant Parm - layered with plant-based mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, basil, and Seitanic Jax seitan crumble Gemelli Pasta - melted leeks, black garlic cashew cream, arugula, candied hazelnuts Nutella Brownie Sundae - house-made Nutella, cocoa butter brownie, vanilla bean gelato, Amarena cherries, and mint. A huge thank you to Josephine for creating such a thoughtful, plant-based menu Josephine at Avondale truly has it all--fresh flavors, a cozy aesthetic, and dishes that make you want to come back again and again. Our visit was not just pleasant, it was fabulous. Pro tip: make a reservation before heading over during weekends as the place gets full.

We recently hosted an engagement party for my daughter, she chose Josephine's to do this and it was a fantastic choice. We visit Josephine from time to time, typically for brunch (amazing) or a meal but this time we were able to use one of their elegant private rooms for our celebration. Family style dinner with appetizers, main dishes, desserts and drinks all served family style. The wait staff led by Cayliegh was stellar. All of the food choices were great. This may have been my first time experiencing their different pastas, and they all hit. I wish I had pictures of the event but I was too busy enjoying the food and the celebration. Josephine always takes Italian food and gives it an elevated twist. Everything is delicious and well thought out. If you're planning an occasion of 25 people or less, I'd highly suggest you consider Josephine. Fantastic occasion! Great service! Amazing food!

Food was amazing! The service was attentive and friendly. It's in a great location for a stroll after dinner.

Saturday, we arrived at a full house of diners. Seemed it was the place to be, but due to the building acoustics that made for a loud environment. Being certain that we wouldn't be able to converse over dinner, we asked for and received an outside table. As hot as it has been it still was pleasant being that we had a late evening reservation and there was a nice breeze. Great service from Callan. She has quick with our cocktails and offered some helpful menu suggestions. Being outside and away from the hustle inside did not detour her from keeping a close watch on us, which was appreciated. Our pick of the carpaccio appetizer was a bit of a letdown. We order this dish frequently when out and look forward to elegant and flavorful thinly sliced beef that practically melts in your mouth. Regrettably what we were served was thick and chewy. Redemption did follow as ee enjoyed the Bolognese & Lamb Ragu pasta dishes. Both were protein heavy and flavorful. Not only were they very tasty but also generous portions. Unfortunately, that left us no room for dessert. Perhaps next time?

My spouse and I had a lovely early dinner on a recent Friday here. To start, I think the interior is absolutely gorgeous -- modern but welcoming, neither sterile nor kitschy. And I really appreciate that the tables have extra space between them; it's not one of those restaurants where you feel like you're putting your rear end in someone's face trying to get in and sit down on the bench. Service was nice and friendly. I do wish they'd mentioned we were actually there during Happy Hour so we could have taken advantage of it, but we know for next time. We started off with a "Cheers, Pomona" cocktail and a glass of Lambrusco (nice to see). The cocktail was tasty and well-balanced. We got the focaccia for an appetizer and it felt a bit pricey at $10, but it was delicious. The butter was nice and soft, although I didn't get a big Parmesan flavor from it as was mentioned on the menu. The garlic really shined in the focaccia, though! My spouse got the bolognese and pretty much inhaled it; he said it was "really good". I ordered cacio e pepe (a favorite) and added shrimp. The shrimp were nicely cooked and seasoned, but I don't think I'd add a protein next time because it personally didn't feel like it "mixed" (not really the kitchen's fault, just more of a preference). It's also worth noting that it was ~5 shrimp for $10. That being said, I really loved the cacio e pepe. The pasta (all made in-house, per our server) was perfect, and the sauce had great flavor -- not weak the way that I've had elsewhere. The cheesiness was evident, as was the black pepper, and it just tasted like the epitome of a comforting dish. We were too full for dessert but look forward to trying it on a future trip, which I'll definitely be making.

Well, I have to say that this restaurant can compete with the best in NYC, New Haven, and Providence or Boston! First and foremost, the service was top notch. The attentiveness and efficiency of our waiter was the best, but to top it off, 2 of the owners each came to the table to check on things. This is something that stands out today. I love it. The atmosphere was comfortable yet refined and the place is very clean. The dim lighting is a point that my wife appreciates in a restaurant setting, but our seats were probably the least lit, (our backs to the front window) and our old eyes needed our phone lights to read the menu, haha. The Arancini was perfect and we loved the marinara. My veal dish was magnificent with it's perfectly cooked, large and very tender cutlet. My wife fully enjoyed the Pappardelle con Vongole nero and I thought it was phenomenal. We can't wait to visit the best Italian restaurant in JAX again, when we return in October.

I had heard about the Pear Fiocchi and decided to give it a try. OH MY WORD! The balance of sweet, savory and salty is just perfect! Wasn't sure if I'd like the mix of Gorgonzola and goat cheese but it really is one of the most delicious Alfredo type sauces I've had. And I really loved that it was not over sauced. The crispy bits of Prosciutto di Parma were the best topping! My hubby and I sat at the bar. He had the clams and being a bit of a clam snob, he really enjoyed his dish! This is a busy little place but worth the wait. It's not crazy loud even though it's a small, intimate, busy restaurant. Mark and Ryan were so attentive and friendly. If you haven't been, you really should go. Sit at the bar! Make new friends!

Having said that what an awesome way to end my birthday with this amazing dinner that I had at this place. One of the best Italian restaurants in Jacksonville I must say. As soon as me and my wife walked in to the restaurant we were greeted and sat right away. The ambiance of this restaurant is truly amazing and very Italian vibe. We were greeted by our server MORGAN who was fantastic from beginning to the end. She suggested some incredible stuff that as a vegetarian I tried and was just amazing. For drinks we had mojito and pinacolada which was nice and refreshing. For appetiser we were recommended with Pomodoro Caprese which was amazing especially their Pesto sauce. For my entree she suggested me Luingini Josephine which was unique and nice pasta. Morgan surprised me with a dessert which was very kind of her. Overall this family owned small business is an amazing must try Italian restaurant. I can't wait to back and try more stuff. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Initially, we were going to Coopers Hawk, but forgot we had to make a reservation a year prior. We were told a 2 hour wait! That is wild given how big the place is. But again it is a Saturday night, and people were smarter than us and made reservations, and thus we left. After giving the news to ogre she full on had a rage attack in the parking lot screaming for those classic Coopers Hawk egg rolls. While we were consoling her I heard a soothing sound coming from behind the restaurant and we landed in front of Enzo's. We were greeted by the kindest owner ever who thankfully along with the help of her staff got us in with no wait, given how packed it was.. We were greeted by a very nice waiter who seemed all over the place though. I think he was definitely new, and was forgetful at times.. Anyways! We got three apps which were all fried stuff. Fried ravioli, Fried mozzarella sticks, Fried calamari. Honestly looking back kind of gross.. but they were solid tasting! Nothing out of the park at all on the apps just your standard.. a little tasteless on the calamari, but then again I had like 3-4 pieces because the ogre consumed them.. but then I got clarification from my good buddy bezos that it was kind of tasteless. The most tastiest was the fried mozzarella! Which shouldn't happen. Onto the entrees! Actually wait side reference note I initially ordered mussels with linguini. It was the worst dish of seafood and pasta I have ever had. I literally NEVER send stuff back, like literally never.. it feels inconsiderate and I feel like a bother even if it is just a little edible I would eat it with no complaints but I literally could not. It was so fishy I am now writing this nauseous. Some of the mussels were also closed, cold or broken.. it was just very very poor and I'm mad I had three mussels. The first one was crazy fishy, but I gave it another shot and then another, because I believe in second and third chances. But no, I was grossed out. Not to mention consuming all the fried prior. I also ordered a soup that was forgotten, and didn't get my cocktail sauce, but not really an issue if the dish was made to torture people with. Eventually I did get my soup and it wasn't bad! But now onto the entrees! Bezos: Chicken francese Tragic: veal parm Ogre: Chicken parm Doctor B Wife: Chicken Caprese Me: after the swap I got Veal Parm (thanks tragic) Oh and we had some garlic bread, but it needed some sauce or added flavor with it idk.. Reviews! Ogre: The chicken was good Wife: Mid Bezos: *yawn* ummmm Tragic: Italian stallion Me: the veal was solid, but that dish was so bad before that I lost all my appetite and I am just bleh.. and our waiter seemed a little lost.. again nice guy but come on. All in all we are grateful we were taken in by Enzo's and that owner seemed like she was a hardworking person that definitely can inspire her staff. I loved the piano playing, and the environment was really pleasant. Although me personally I disagree with the food, that dish was the worst ever, and our waiter again although nice was extremely forgetful. I feel sick to my stomach and I probably am going to vomit. But thank you again you gave us a good night and a place to eat..

They also brought us out an "on the house" mushroom appetizer that was delicious. If you like mushrooms, get it! I also sampled the lobster ravioli (on special) and enjoyed it. I am not a huge lobster anything fan, but even I thought it was pretty good! I also had a glass of the house red wine blend they have and that was one of the best house wines I've had in a long time! Super smooth. Teeniest bit sweet. No aftertaste at all. The service was wonderful. Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable and just generally great. My only complaint (and not really a complaint a just a warning so no one is surprised if it comes up... ) is that they charge a $30 cake fee if you bring your own cake. It's just a little bit of a bummer, but I totally understand why. They were super polite about it when I called. Anyhow... food and service was great. Would go again!

The bread wasn't my personal favorite since I usually prefer warm bread with oil and vinegar, and this was served room‑temperature with butter. My entrée (Chicken Alla Toscana - pictured) was delicious, though I did add a little salt and crushed red pepper to suit my taste. Dessert was very good as well; the Italian cream cake was yummy, though the almond extract flavor was a bit strong for me. Overall, a lovely experience and I would happily return.

The butter was placed on top of the bread, which helped it soak into the bread a bit before it was even brought to the table. We ordered the mozzarella appetizer, which came with a standard marinara sauce and, we think, a ranch inspired creamy sauce. It tasted like a lemon aioli sauce with hints of ranch. Note of advice: try this sauce conservatively because the flavor is strong! The mozzarella itself was amazing. Crunchy outside, warm cheese inside. The cheese was very soft and not overly chewy. The rigatoni alla vodka was in an amazing smooth, creamy vodka sauce finished with Parmesan on top. Since moving from New York, I don't think I've had vodka sauce this good anywhere else! The inside was lightly lit, similar to other nicer Italian restaurants. While it wasn't overly fancy, it was fancier than a casual Italian restaurant

Some of the portion sizes went back- different plates/old ones. Sadly, the tail on shrimp in pasta stayed- pretty annoying to try to eat. Alfredo with shrimp (ewww shells on) Alfredo plain Alfredo with chicken Chicken francoise- good and thin, my sister liked. Served with asparagus. Spicy shrimp pasta (ewww shells on)- still less shrimp Small Maggianos salad with shrimp- lots of shrimp, but shells on. Salad no longer chopped smaller, but lots of shrimp- cool. Rigatoni D- always a fave and while still good, chicken was different. Not the larger tender chunks as before. Bread also updated- hot with butter. Super good, but love the oil as well.
