Breakfast anyone? On this Mother's Day all I wanted was some coffee and something yummy for my belly. So we all got in the car and headed to Avondale for The Fox Restaurant. When you walk up it's a cute small restaurant that packs a mighty punch with their decor, vibe and the menu. Normally the line is pretty long to get it but it moved quickly. While in line I was greeted by the owner Ian. He was so friendly and charismatic. He sat me down as I waited for my husband and kid to join and handed me a nice hot coffee which was soooooo good! The restaurant is decorated with all vintage art work and hand drawn art work from patrons. As well as different signs with funny phrases. My favorite was sign said " If you are grouchy, irritable or just plain mean, there will be a $10 charge for putting up with you". Hahah I read it to my son because he tried to get mad about his dad taking forever to get the tablet out the car lol. Now back to the food! I had the French toast, with eggs over medium, turkey sausage and fruit. Everything was so good! I also caught a glimpse of their biscuits and I will definitely be back to try them. Besides the excellent service there I like that my Togo items were in a bag that said "Eat Local, Eat Often". I try to buy local as much but more importantly I love being able to support a local business as well as something that is a staple in the community. If you're even in Avondale or you're thinking of breakfast make sure you go to The Fox Restaurant!
food was good, was hoping to have a bit more flavor but was good and large portions. the service was quick but felt rushed, although it was busy and the line outside went quick. very cute decorating in here and has charm.
I stopped in here for a last minute Sunday breakfast/brunch. I can never seem to make it to a breakfast house early enough. I made it about 15mins before closing. The staff was nice enough to allow me to place an order and the time to eat it. They close at 2PM. I had a typical breakfast combo. 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and 4 pieces of turkey link sausages. Breakfast tasted great ! The pancakes were a little crispy just the way I like it. The atmosphere puts you in the mind of a diner or what we call in Chicago a "truck stop". I thought it was really cool to see all the future Picassos of the world. Lol The walls featured children's attempts of drawing a fox. It was also nice of the owner to come by and chat with me. I do think the restaurant could stand a little upgrading. Otherwise, nice spot.
I honestly don't know why I don't come here more often! It's so good. The corned beef hash is literally my favorite breakfast item. They make it PERFECT. It's a nice char and the center is moist. Literally the best. The cheese eggs are really good as well. The grits are ok. I think I'm just picky with grits and prefer it made with heavy cream vs water. The biscuit is AMAZING. It's so big but also light and airy and you can taste the butter. It's so GOOD! The service is always amazing, will be going back for lunch soon.
If you love diners and live in or around Avondale, then you need to try this spot. A classic diner with delicious food, I don't know how you could not love Fox. There's always a line for brunch on the weekend but it moves fast. My go-to is the tuna melt. I add bacon and red onion to it and it's delicious - gooey with crunchy bacon and thinly shaved red onion. I've watched them make it from the bar and was appalled by the insane amount of salt and butter, but it's so good I would still get it again. The pimento cheese burger is also excellent: cheesy and with a great sear - they cook it to medium which I would not necessarily ask for but I do like here. Onion rings are delicious. The booths are a fun place to sit at and admire all the hokey decorations. The bar is also a great spot if it's just you and a partner. This place is not large enough for a group bigger than four. Service is great - super friendly and funny. We have a great time every time we come here!
It was a Thursday morning around 9:30 and it was standing room only. In fact we had to wait outside and were the first in line (outside). It took about 25 minutes before we finally got seated, but I will give the owner kudos for continually checking on us from time to time while we waited and letting us know how much longer it would be before we got seated. The wait was worth it. I had biscuits and gravy with a side order of crispy bacon. It was all very satisfying and delicious. The endless coffee hit the spot. The old style diner played older music and made one feel super comfortable. There's bar seating as well as booths and tables inside. There's also a couple of small tables with seating outside, but in Florida's heat and humidity it's nice to sit inside this time of year. 5 stars for great food and exemplary service. Check them out, and get there early!
I loved this place from the moment we walked in the door. We had just flown in, and we were hungry and tired. We were greeted right away, told we could sit wherever we wanted. Our waitress immediately came over and took our order. The food came quickly. The food was superb! Mark had an omelet and I had the mini which was one egg (cooked my way) bacon, home fries, and raisin toast, because when raisin toast is an option on the menu, you have to get it. The ambiance was inviting, we were treated like old friends from the moment we walked in. If we do not return to visit on this trip, we definitely will the next!

Great retro diner in Avondale. When you step inside, it feels like you're thrown back in time as if you're at a NYC or New Orleans diner with friendly staff. You can sit at the countertop in front of the grill. But my favorite part is that they serve the entire menu for breakfast. So you can order chili cheese fries if you wanted to start your day. Heads up: they don't serve alcohol so no mimosas. Highly recommend.
I love a traditional american breakfast but i did not want to go to a regular diner, and that is how we can across this family owned restaurant less than 2 miles from our home. We had a two pancake breakfast and an omellete. The eggs are freshly cracked, the sausage tastes like heaven and does not compare to anything store bought, it tastes homemade! The pancakes had a nice toasty color on the bottom and also you can tell they make the batter every mornig. The biscuit was TO DIE FOR, it is sooooo soft and flavorful. We had it with the sausage gravy and it was a hit. The service was one of the best i have ever had. Very attentive, refilled my coffee as soon as it was half way, refilled our waters often, checked on us all the time and had such a positive energy that made it feel very welcoming and homey. The ambiance reminds me of a cozy home, every person that walked was so happy to be there, the staff love what they do and all the wall decor adds to the history of this restaurant. 10/10 experience!

There was a line outside of the restaurant for the indoor seating on a Sunday morning, but we didn't mind to take the last 2 outside seats. The food was ok, it took a little long to get it, but we didn't mind as it was lovely out. My Greek omelette was good. The fruit cup was kinda dull and had lots of bananas. Service was great, our drink were refilled timely. read more

Finally made it to the Fox. I dig local spots like this. A good ol greasy spoon. The food is just ok, so I had to give it a 4 instead of 5. Sorry. It also took a long time for standard grub. But I will give you that the place was slam packed. But still... lol The host dude that comes outside to shuttle people to seats based on party size - super cool. Great vibes. Checks on you occassionally thru the meal. People like that keep patrons like me coming back. The coffee needs help in there though. Ouch. Bacon is on the soggy side. Too much butter on the toast. Yeah, it is a diner. All is well. Oh, and the prices are reasonable so much respect on that. I will be back! At some point. haha read more
May have just found my new favorite diner! Happily greeted when we walked in, staff really made us feel welcome. Restaurant is very clean and you can tell everyone cares. My omelet was about the best I've ever had and the hubby really enjoyed his salad. Overall, we will be back! read more

The Fox is my favorite breakfast spot. It's an upgraded diner with the best service. From the owner greeting people and making conversation while you're standing in line (which moves fast, I promise) to the servers who remember that I always get a family man omelette with no cheese, it's the neighborhood spot to go. Not to mention the quirky decor and good music! Definitely recommend the omelettes, home fries, waffles (soo good), and the biscuits, which are fluffy and soft. read more
Dropped by and it was very busy, but was able to get a seat at the bar. Everyone was very nice and service was fast. It was $16 for breakfast, soda, and an extra biscuit to try. I got the Super Fox sub bacon for sausage. It's very chill here and would love to come early when they just open and I definitely want to give them another review. Bacon was nice and smokey. I also really liked how fluffy the biscuit was (and it wasn't burnt so that was great!). read more
Great breakfast spot! I think they could use a better quality bread for the French toast but it's still decent. The quantity is good. The bacon, eggs, & fruit cup were great. My friend got the home fries and those were stellar. read more

We were visiting from Indiana and decided to stop by the fox after finding them on yelp. Great food, and fast service. The prices are excellent especially in such a hip side of town. We loved the old school music and the art on the walls. This place was very eclectic. The food servings were a great size and you cannot go wrong if you order the biscuits. Give them a try and support local. read more

I absolutely love this place! The décor reminds me of my childhood. The food is perfect. Every single one of the staff are amazing. And the owners are the nicest people you could ask for. You have to get there very early if you do not want to wait, but the line signifies that the food is worth it. The portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. When I want breakfast out, this is my go to place. Love it and keep up the great work! read more

Great spot for a tasty honest breakfast or lunch . Today I had the Nam burger and it was great, with chorizo and an egg. My wife had and loved the Mediterranean salad with added chicken and bacon. The romaine lettuce was fresh and crispy and she thoroughly enjoyed it. We both had a cup of chili which was good (not amazing but good). The service was great and the staff were working really well together. The place itself has a great home feel and hippie vintage feel and ambiance which works well for the neighborhood. We love the Fox and we return every time we are in the area. read more
Welp! Sorry to say this Waffle House.... there's a new sheriff in town. Actually, they've been here, it's me that's just now discovering them. LMBO! This restaurant has won my heart and it was only the first visit. From great customer service to deliciously fresh breakfast with so many options of what many would consider be most simply ingredients. The OJ tasted sweet, and freshly squeezed; the eggs was cooked to perfection; the mounds of bacon... (I just need a moment of silence .) And the sausage patty... took me to food coma. Oh and the cinnamon raisin bread needs no introduction. #JezuzTakeTheWheel I was sure of what I wanted to try during this visit, the broad selection of omelets as mouthwatering but, I wanted to taste each of my breakfast foods separately and thought about how hunger I could possible have been. Final results: I ordered the Super Fox which comes with 4 eggs; 4 pieces of bacon, a sausage patty, and your choice of grits, breakfast hash, or fruit, and a biscuit or toast. Our waitress was super cool. She sat us in the "VIP" area. LOL! It wasn't VIP but, just by her saying it was made us feel super special. I love the vintage vibes of this restaurant. But, will be prepared to wait for a seat as everyone else loves this place too. So I have so that they're packed most of the time. read more
It doesn't get much better than The Fox as far as delicious diners go! I enjoy everything I've ever had, but I'm mostly posting just to say that the waffle is always delicious and one of my very favorites! There's usually a bit of a wait on the weekends, but it's worth it to me. Great atmosphere and service, too. read more

I finally made it to the FOX after hearing about it for so many years. Simple little diner with a long counter seating and about 10 booths - I didn't count, just an estimate. It was exactly as I'd imagined as a throw back to when times were simpler and technology didn't run our lives. Ordered the 2 egg breakfast which includes your choice of meat (4 slices of bacon for me), grits or fruit, and bread or biscuit. Service was fast and friendly and the kitchen was even faster. Took less than 5 minutes after I ordered but of course all that had to be prepared was the eggs which were perfectly cooked. 4 pieces of bacon is nice since it's thin and I know this is a personal preference but I like thick bacon. Nonetheless, it was a good breakfast overall. The grits were good and that had to be the fluffiest biscuit I've eaten in a long time! No complaints from this guy. read more

Quaint local restaurant with traditional breakfast. Stopped here in between business meetings downtown and the food was delicious. Traditional breakfast items, cooked fresh, and great service. Close to downtown Jacksonville and great for good eats. read more
Just hands down your best place to get a good quick classic breakfast in riverside! Well Avondale whatever . But the owner is great and super interactive and kind to everyone, the staff is great and very on pint with everything. We live the art that's always up on the walls and we come here alllll the time for a fun and fair priced delicious breakfast or brunch . read more

What does The Fox say? The Fox says sit your ass down and enjoy classic diner fare. No frills, just filler. An old school diner with eclectic flare, quirky employees and a righteous menu filled with breakfast staples all the way to the kitchen sink. Their shoestring fries are everything and then some. Cut thin, yet substantial enough to play ball with the other big names on the plate. Next time I might ask for a basket, or rather a bucket to entertain my salty senses. The Chicken Parm sandwich is very good, but not what I expected. Am I letting my Italian upbringing block my senses of taking this sandwich for what it is? Possibly. I can admit it. Basically, the chicken is fried and used for all other dishes that come with fried chicken. So, it's fried chicken topped with marinara, cheese, and pressed between a crisp roll. Overall, it's a simple, well-crafted sandwich, but I feel like it could be elevated even more. The portion size will knock you back in your chair though! I do love how this place doesn't conform to any other establishment. With many finer dining options in the area, The Fox fills the void of low-key, no fuss vibe in the Avondale scene. Will definitely be checking out more of what this hole-in-the-wall restaurant has to offer! read more

Finally, I got up early enough to have breakfast here this morning with my sister. I have walked by Fox's four dozen times over the years and they have always been closed as they shut their doors @ 2:30pm. So TODAY was my FIRST TIME! :) We had no wait and sat at a great booth with a wonderful server named Rob who was accommodating and gracious. They also have bar seating where you can sit if you come in alone or prefer sitting up high. We started with two coffees and shortly after, we were ready to order. I ordered the waffle breakfast (eggs, bacon, waffle, potatoes) & my sister ordered the corn beef hash breakfast with a side of grits. The food was fresh, make to order and served quickly. In addition, Rob brought out a nice little side of their horseradish sauce just because he overheard my sister say that she liked horseradish. Talk about on point service! And that horseradish sauce.....try dipping your home fries in that. YUM. Now I'm usually picky with my coffee and the type they serve here is a regular "diner" coffee which usually has no depth. However, the rest of our food and experience was exceptional so I won't bitch about a cup of coffee that was otherwise hot & constantly refilled. :) Overall, Fox's Restaurant is a great local diner humorously decorated with a hip feel that provides a comfortable space to have a nice meal with your sister. This is one of my places on my "Monday Breakfast" list. I love eating breakfast at the counter. You get to talk to the employees behind the counter & also get a chance to watch the chef do her think on the grill. Me, also being a cook, love watching good cooks in action. The food always come out quick and cooked perfectly. I have been trying to taste a little bit of everything on their menu. The waffles, pancakes & the home fries have been my favorite so far. I love that they keep the food simple and good, sometimes the way breakfast should be. The decor is another favorite of mine too. They have memorabilia and figurines dating back to my childhood. It may be hidden away in the lovely area of Avondale. But there are big things happening inside. As long as they keep the food tasting good and keep showing those lovely smiling faces I will always be a fan. What does the Fox say??? read more
What does the FOX say? YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM! That's right, I said it! I woke up this past Saturday with a hankering for brunch. I'm rather glad that our party didn't arrive until around 12-12:30, as we seemed to catch the tail end of the rush and there wasn't that long of a wait. I was pleasantly surprised to see my favorite face from Chomp Chomp at The Fox. Ian owns both and is quite the rad dude. He was so awesome with my 5 year old niece who quickly became enamored with him. Onto the foodz, as a born and bred Yankee, the first thing that I always look for, and try, on a breakfast menu is corned beef hash. Lo and behold, The Fox had it and it tasted like I walked into my favorite joint back home in Connecticut. Right on the money in taste and affordability! So far, The Fox has won my heart in my quest for corned beef hash in the Bold City. The atmosphere is awesome, with all the vintage toys hanging on the walls and reminders of eras gone by. They even have an Urkel drawstring toy behind the counter! So cool. Another awesome thing for folks who are like me and fans of that awesome Westsider sandwich at Chomp Chomp, it's on the menu here too! You don't have to go all the way Downtown for it! Our waitress was super patient as we had a few latecomers join us. We ordered their food while they were still on the way to Avondale and the food beat them to the table! Other than my nieces who ordered lunch, the rest of us ordered breakfast and our plates were clean by the end. I had the perfect amount of food on my plate between the corned beef hash, home fries, eggs, and toast. The Fox is a very small joint, so my suggestion is going to be to either get here early for brunch or get here late. I'm sure the wait in between has to be pretty long. There are a couple outside tables, then the rest is either sitting at the counter or at a booth inside. The setup reminded me of the diner my Uncle had when I was growing up. Seriously, The Fox is so reminiscent of home for me, be prepared to see me more often! read more
