Visited the Mishawaka, IN area recently and went to Metro Diner for breakfast. The place was pretty busy, which is a good sign. In spite of it's 'busyness', our server greeted us quickly. She was super nice. Ordered the usual breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns...all great. The best thing was the toast! It was a multigrain of some sort and it was delicious!! Returned a few days later for lunch, and again, busy. Server was great and attentive. My sister and I ordered a BLT to share and a cup of soup each. Meal was really good and fresh. They served our 1/2 of the sandwich on our own plate with half the fries (that were piping hot) without us asking. That does not happen often. Definitely visit this place! read more

OMG!!! Got the chicken & waffles. First time trying this combination. I really didn't expect the WOW factor. The spicy syrup, the STRAWBERRY BUTTER & some of the best fried chicken I ever had. Amazing! My friend ordered the shrimp & grits I've had s&g before, but never like this. The grits were fried in a wonderful sea of gravy & shrimps OMG! & had a decent amount of tasty shrimps. Saturday morning visit. Nice upbeat atmosphere. Service was good and the food was yummy. It smells really good in here for breakfast time. We picked two dishes and shared: 1st dish was the chicken & biscuit with choice of side (we picked crispy hashbrowns - they did a good job getting them crispy but not dry or greasy ) & they let us sub out the spicy honey for delicious country sausage gravy. 2nd dish was a half order of chicken & waffle (choice of 2 crispy tenders or bone in chicken, we chose tenders - so good) Also served with spicy honey, maple syrup and strawberry butter - all tasty) We ordered a side of link sausages (yum) and my husband had coffee while I drank water. Great location in Granger- came here Saturday morning and only had ~5 minute wait. There is free coffee while you wait as well. Our server was nice and our food came out hot, fresh, and quick. I was under-impressed with the hashbrowns- they were browned/ crispy on the outside but inside extremely gooey- I asked for them to be recooked longer which did get some more crispy ones on that outside but still undercooked/soft on inside and very oily. I feel like they needed to not just flip the hashbrowns but also get more of the inside ones on the grill. Besides that, the crab cake benedict was very good. Easy to share as well. I also enjoyed the $2.99 mimosas- can't beat that! There were some really delicious lunch options that I would want to come back and try, but lunch isn't served until 3:00 pm. read more

I mean, come on, this place is surprisingly good. It's the middle of June and the place is packed, I think I saw one mask in the whole place, but we're back open again, I guess. I have had the cinnamon pancakes and they're particularly good because they come with cream cheese icing. You get a good amount, so don't let your eyes get bigger than your stomach. The benedicts are very good too, if you like benedicts, this is a good choice. Service is good, though it can be slower when they're busy. It didn't happen this past time, but it has happened in the past. We've always got what we ordered and it was cooked the way we asked. We decided to grab takeout today at this delightful diner. I got the Metro Club with mashed potatoes (I don't care for gravy so I got some butter packets on the side) while my husband got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The hubby started eating his food before I got a picture and his excuse was it was too good to wait for. He thought the fries would've been better fresh (we didn't eat the food right away) and admitted he would've devoured them had we sat down to eat rather than doing takeout. My club sandwich and potatoes were amazing. I really loved the use of red skin potatoes instead of the average everyday potatoes. My sandwich was huge, my pickle was crisp, and everything was just simply on point. I am very much excited to come back for breakfast. When out of town I look for diners and cafes for breakfast. Nothing better than homemade food. I saw this place on Yelp and there were almost 200 reviews with a high rating. I'm now confused after eating there. The best thing was the staff and speed of in and out service. The problem was the food. I've a attached a pic of the chicken strip Benedict with the (what I assume are precooked and reheated) poached egg removed. That's just chicken from a bag microwaved to perfection. What a let down. Again for what it was not horrible...expensive for processed reheated food I could throw together at home. Maybe the rest of the menu is great but I missed the mark with my order. read more

My mom and I stopped here once for lunch and we absolutely love it. We had to bring our whole family here. Of course the chicken and waffles are the stars of the show. Being a Hot and New restaurant and hearing good reviews from some of our friends we came to Metro Diner for lunch. We requested the counter by the open kitchen so we spent a lot of time watching the cooks and management expedite a really busy kitchen. From my view they were a well oiled machine with an occasional slip up rectified quickly. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits, because it was permanently advertised on the front window, and the Avocado Wrap. The Shrimp and Grits were good but "diner unique". The owner said they make the gravy from scratch and it tasted like a Bechamel Sauce with shrimp flavoring. The shrimp used in the dish were better then diner quality shrimp and the grits were fried grit cakes. I would not call the dish typical shrimp and grits but it was very rich and great diner food. Is it authentic shrimp and grits? No... but I would order it again. My wife had the Avocado Wrap and enjoyed it. It came with spinach black beans, avocado and Fried jalapenos. The fried jalapenos brought a great texture and contrast to the wrap made the wrap really good. It was great seeing so many fresh ingredients being used in the wrap and other dishes we watched being created. Our service was good and we had a the owner pop out to check on us because we had a small concern. He answered a lot of questions for us and was very friendly. Overall there were a lot of smiling, happy people in a packed out restaurant so that says a lot. Who doesn't love a place that got it's start on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (original in FL and now 50+ locations!) We visited on March 11th for the soft opening benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana. We were there for dinner, but the entire menu is available all day. The place was packed, but service was friendly and efficient. My husband ordered the Shrimp and Grits (grit cakes instead of your traditional grits). The portion was huge and loaded with shrimp. It was tough, but my husband managed to put it all away. I ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich was good, but not amazing. The fries were fresh and crisp. The service was surprisingly fast given it was a soft opening and a full house...we were in and out in less than an hour. All I've heard about this place was that they have great breakfast so I assumed it was just a breakfast place. We were looking to a place to eat on a Saturday night and noticed they were open so we decided to give it a chance. I'm glad we did! The servers were polite and friendly. The food came out fast, hot and delicious. That in itself is enough for any restaurant to strive for. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside juicy on the inside, the fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The creole dipping sauce could use a little help, it was too sweet for my taste, but still pretty good. The turkey dinner was just like you'd make at home! Our service was extremely fast, which is normally great but it was a long awaited brunch plan with a friend so we were not done visiting. Not to mention we could barely get a word out before the server would be walking away, zero pleasantries. As we paid and tipped our 20%+, we sat there with our coffee.. still well under an hour, totally standard meal time, we were very rudely asked to leave. A person walked to our table and abruptly stated we were done and they'd like their table. No 'thank you' or any acknowledgement whatsoever as we jumped up immediately to get out of their way. On the way out, I counted seven empty tables on the way out and zero smiling faces. The food is great. My go to is the chicken and waffles. Perfect everytime and it reminds me of home. BUT... if you are going in to pick up your orders please brace yourself for the cold shoulder. Multiple times I have been overlooked by a waitress looking to service a customer looking to dine in. It doesn't matter if I came in first. It takes 3-5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge you. 3-12-2021 I like the food here but there is absolutely no social distancing here. It seems some businesses are open 100% and other restaurants are open with 50-75% of the tables being used. Every other table should be used. The last time I was here they allowed people to sit right up on the bar where the food is being made. People walk around to go to the bathroom and to leave the building with no masks on. I enjoy going out but I also believe in safety as well. read more

My first impression of it was "CROWDED". I went there on a Sunday morning at around 11am and I almost waited for 40 minutes to get a seat. I asked the waiter and he said it was always crowded (not because football weekend). So prepare yourself enough time if you wanna eat here. Other than this, the waiter was nice and helpful. The food was excellent! I really liked the omelette, and hash brown was just amazing (maybe one of the best I've had). The items on the menu all looked great. Decided to venture out and stumbled onto this place. I have to say of all the places my husband & I have been that serves chicken & waffles this diner by far has the best! My husband loves fried chicken and coming from California we have a wide variety of restaurants that make it but nothing has compared! There is so much flavor in the chicken and batter! The chicken is moist and juicy! It paired very nicely with the sweet & spicy sauce they serve with it. The sausage gravy was delicious as well. All of the food was full of flavor! Came here on a busy Saturday morning with a party of 5, and had to wait roughly 25 minutes for a table. None of us had been here before so we really didn't know what to expect. Once seated, we were given water and waited on immediately. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, which also comes with eggs and hashbrowns. I rarely leave a restaurant totally full, but this place Sid the trick. The biscuits were just okay, but I really enjoyed the gravy. The people I was with all got different breakfast meals, and only 2 of us were able to finish. As for the general opinion, everyone seemed to agree that it was good, but nothing great. The quantity is definitely a plus, as the portion sizes are huge, but you could probably do a better (& smaller) meal for the same price. Overall, I'll probably come back, especially when I'm really hungry, but I wouldn't wait more than 30 minutes to eat here. read more

My family and I came here during our trip from South Bend to Chicago. We were seated right away and given water and coffee once we sat down. One of the serves came around the refill coffee and we had a nice conversation about Notre Dame. For food we each ordered a different breakfast. I decided on a blueberry pancake, only one since it is giant. I also split a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant with my sister.
