The food was delicious! I had the sticky chicken dinner, and my husband had the meatloaf dinner. The chicken was so well seasoned, and that SAUCE! Whew! Party in my mouth! I tasted the meatloaf which was exceptionally tasty. You got the taste of the onion, garlic, and carrots they use in the mix. Just scrumptious. The mashed potatoes were so buttery and creamy. I will definitely return. There was only one issue. The lady packing our order took a deep sniff of the butter for my waffle. Her mask was under her chin. Many of the staff were unmasked. Ummm COVID lives in the nares people. Then when I spoke up, she gave quite an attitude which continued through the end of my visit. Just because we're vaxxed, doesn't mean we can't get sick, and I don't want to get sick. That was a major downer for me as I'm A caregiver and don't want to spread disease to my patients. Iffy food, Not so decent prices I have always been in the mind that diner food was to be quick, cheap, and delicious. Unfortunately, that wasn't quite the case when I went to Metro Diner. The service wasn't bad at all, but the food didn't quite settle well in my stomach, so I had to leave very early. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich- I understand that normally, that sandwich is to be a little greasy. However, I only tasted fried dough and grease was literally dripping down my hands as I tried to hold it. The price was pretty expensive for a Monte Cristo as well- I can't completely remember what I paid for it, but I remember thinking that I could have gone to Cheddar's, gotten their Monte Cristo, and spent less than I did at Metro Diner. Before I went, I was told that Metro Diner was good food, but expensive. It may have just been my experience, but the food was mediocre at best. read more

We arrived at primetime on Saturday night 6:00p - (thanks to Yelp Nation for putting this on the radar!) Lobby is packed but we're told the wait should be ~20 minutes. Forecast is dead on too. Thanks for complimentary coffee/tea while we're waiting!! In some vast hostess arranged conspiracy, they parade our party of 3 past the kitchen pass through. I'm tempted to linger sucking in the most delicious of smells and sights. I'm so torn now. Swear to God; this is the only time in recollection in which I've truly changed my decision 5 times on my order. My much better half and the in-law have no such challenge. They order the stuffing waffle special & spicy cajun chicken pasta. I finally settle on the meatloaf but suffer buyers remorse for 15 minutes before our meals arrive! 1 minute into our feast; after we've all hummed & yummed, shared samples, bites & tastes all around the table - we pronounce this a 5 star joint, eager all to return and eager still to vary orders to many about us. My meatloaf - fantastic! Seared on the grill thick slices, mashed potatoes/gravy & veg. I unabashedly state to pay no attention as I lick my platter - to my wife's protestations, she shovels 1/3 of her stuffing waffle onto my plate to shut me up. Holy Cow! Imagine thanksgiving stuffing turned into a savory belgian waffle w/ mashed potatoes, large thick slices of turkey breast seared on the flat top and smothered in lip smacking turkey gravy. And a side of cranberry jelly. I've entered an alternate universe! I'm stuffed - I don't want to leave. When can we come back! The out-law works on her spicy cajun chicken pasta and barely makes a dent, asking for a box then shoveling large portions of leftovers to go proclaiming she has enough for 2 more meals left. Sat at the bar that is a bar in the sense it's like a typical Diner very crowded lots of returning customers but I want on a Saturday morning and was seated at the bar fairly quickly. They do turntables fast and I had the corn beef and hash and enjoyed it the corn beef tasted like corned beef that was homemade. I tried the poached eggs but they were a little undercooked in the future I probably would just get my eggs over medium. Had the biscuits which were nice. Coffee was so so but I'm the type of person that really likes a flavorful coffee if you like regular Folgers it's probably fine. I would have to go again to see if I would change my mind on some of the food I might order some typical breakfast and try some of the pancake type breakfast they're also well known for their Fried Chicken and Waffles. We came in late, around noon. Was pretty busy which was to be expected on a Sunday at noon. Only had a 20 or so minute wait. Host and hostess were both very friendly. Our waitress was nice but didn't let us know what the specials were or where we could find them. Our waitress was pretty flighty. It took about 45-50 minutes until we received our food. The hash browns were very dry and cold, the sausage gravy tasted like flour and wasn't seasoned at all and the grits were undercooked and not seasoned at all and wasn't the cheesiest like they claimed it would be. They forgot it at first and when they brought it out they had a little of sprinkled cheese on the top. My husband also found a grape in his salsa and his sausage patties didn't taste right. What are you waiting for?? If you haven't been to Metro Diner in Mishawaka, you're missing out. First off, the staff is excellent. Everyone greets you with a smile and you know they are there to give you the best experience possible. Full disclosure: I'm from New Jersey and we know diners. Metro Diner is the real deal (needs more chrome though :)). My wife had a specially made dish (Beef Manhatten) prepared by Tracy (I hope I spelled her name right) and she loved it. The bread (somehow) stayed crispy even though it was covered in a homemade(!) mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh, the bread? It was Chicago-style. I never heard of it, but I asked for it as french toast (along with awesome eggs, bacon, home fries, and an English muffin - my eyes were too big for my stomach!). Heaven! Perfectly cooked. Sweet. Hardy. We both left there full. Tracy actually came over and started talking to us and shared some of her favorite things to cook. When I mentioned I didn't know what the Chicago-style bread was, she went and brought out a piece for me to see! Great experience. Awesome food. Delicious coffee. Delightful atmosphere. My husband Paul and I stop there to have lunch on a Sunday afternoon a couple weeks ago. Even though it was very busy we got seated and we had the best waitress I can't think of her name now but she went out of her way to accommodate us we had their dinner special which was an herb roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans that are fresh not canned ! My husband had the Meatloaf dinner. We are often leery to order anyone else's meatloaf because When you are used to your own, but this one was great! We enjoyed them both very much the chicken was delicious expertly seasoned with care and roasted not breaded and fried and it was yummy.. We shared meals because we both wanted to try each others. For starters, the coffee was too weak. They offer flavored coffee so they are trying to be trendy. So why not serve good coffee. We may have just ordered the wrong menu items because our dishes were not good. The poached eggs were sitting in water, the corned beef was dry and too many large (for hash) under cooked potatoes in it. It looked like a large portion until you realized how many potatoes were in it. Huevos Rancheros are anything but. It's more like a bad taco bowl. Ingredients all jumbled together over fried tortillas. The tortillas sticking out were crisp and the bottom ones a soggy mess. Looked like a bad layered dip. I would definitely give Metro Diner five stars. They are consistent with good food quality. They never disappoint. Food was good but they need training on food safety standards! My husband ordered chicken and waffles. They served him his food. He spread the strawberry butter and touched the chicken. Then the manager took the food back from him (apparently they served him an all white meat meal when he didn't order that). The manager ordered a fresh waffle and then served the fresh waffle and my husband's chicken to another customer! The chicken that my husband touched was taken across the restaurant and served to another person! YUCK! I won't go back because of this. I would be more likely to give it 3.5 stars if it were an option. They have really good avocado toast, which you can't find at a ton of other breakfast spots. The pancakes are very good too. I've had a couple good experiences here and a couple lukewarm. It seems like they have some really good servers and a couple that are not so good. Being from Hawaii, it was a cold day to say the least. All I was looking for was a home styled cooked meal, to be more specific, a really good fried chicken. The first thing that hit us as we entered was the immediate warmth. Not only from the indoor heater but with the warm smile of the hostess. By then, I was hoping that the warm welcome would surely match the food being served. My hopes were answered! The fried chicken plate was delicious. It was just out of the fryer and seasoned just right! The chicken was perfectly good inside and crispy on the outside. My husband got pancakes which was like eating candy he said. My father in law got there burger with their fries. The burger had delicious Angus beef and cooked to your liking and the waitress encouraged the fries. They did not disappoint! Everyone raved of the fries. All in all the food was excellent and delicious. It was busy when we went and I can see why. If you care about portions and food that isn't bad, Metro Diner is the place to go. It's crazy on a Sunday during brunch hours (went in 11:30am), so expect to wait if you've got a large group (we were a group of 15). No social distancing - everyone is pretty packed in there to the point where it's a little too close for comfort. The fish and chips are average; a little too much batter for my liking. Mango sweet tea is not mangoey (just go with it) at all. Bottom line: it's diner food that's a little too hyped, but otherwise not bad, not expensive, and the portions will not leave you wanting more. read more

Arrived at 10:30am and there was a 10-15 minute wait. Not a big deal. It was Labor Day and a lot of people had the day off so it was busy. We we seated in about 10 minutes. Waitress came right over and took our drink order. She was very friendly. She returned in a couple of minutes with our drinks and took our food order. While waiting on our our food, I observed how the bussers were cleaning the tables. They were wiping tables down with the same rag, pushing food onto the floor. I watched one busser wipe down 3 tables with the same rag. The second table was very messy with syrup and whatever. She then used that rag to wipe another table. The restaurant, overall, looked clean. Not so sure about the tables. Our food was brought out in about 12 minutes. My burger was very good. The fries were barely warm and over salted. No one came back to see if everything was ok or if we need drink refills. I hope our next visit is better. read more

Today was the first time me and my wife dined here and the food was delicious service was great plus the price was decent! We will be back.
