Another RV rally, so another chance to try a new place. We've been to other Metro locations, but this is the first time at the Gainesville location, so it qualifies as new in my book anyways. Had 15 people in our party, and the service from Megan was top-notch. Glasses stayed full, orders were correct and everyone was happy with her efforts, despite having our large group plus at least one more table. I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli while mama went for the fried fish with fries, onion rings and a cup of what may be the most wonderful loaded potato soup I've ever had. My steak was perfectly cooked and the gravy was delicious. But the real shining star here was the broccoli. Just crispy enough and with a garlic butter that was awesome. Great food as usual. Best chicken tenders in town! Today for lunch we had a wonderful waitress, Emily, so friendly and attentive. Always love this place and staff is always fantastic. The place runs like a well oiled machine. They now put the sides in serpate bowls on your plate. Someone was thinking! So great to not have the gravy from the mashed potatoes get all over the fresh fruit when I customized sides. Also keeps sides warmer. Very clean restaurant. I had the beef tip teriyaki bowl, it's absolutely delicious. We discovered this place by accident while visiting Gainesville and today I drove an hour and a half just to have lunch again here. I go to this place a lot, because although it gets very crowded, the food and the service are very good; but unfortunately today was not the case. I ordered a waffle, which inside was raw and sticky dough. They kindly made me another one, but it was the same. My husband ordered pancakes, and it was the same. We were very disappointed with the food, in the end they deducted it from our bill. If I go back, I know I can't eat some waffles there, it's very sad. read more

We stopped at Metro Diner today while on a road trip. Saw that they had a yummy variety of pancake and waffle fun flavors and HAD to try it. We ordered 1 cinnamon roll pancake as an appetizer and the classic eggs Benedict, corned beef hash, and the meat lover scramble bowl. Everything was delicious. BUT more than our good order the service we got was exceptional!!! Our waiter was so extremely nice. As soon as he first approached our table, we were greeted with such genuine hospitality he went above and beyond. Honestly, he set a really high standard to what all waiters should be like. Amazing. Very nice, laid back ambience...amazingly enough, we ended up getting here unexpectedly 23 mins before closing time! I apologized to the fella at the front and said to nevermind since it was so close to 8pm and I'd thought they closed at 9pm. To our mutual surprise, he looked up at the clock and said, "Not too bad, you've got plenty of time!" and seated us immediately. Wow. They don't even do that at the CureSpot when there's an hour before closing time!! (Don't get me started on THAT place... Our rears had barely touched the seats when Deana took our order for our drinks and then returned immediately for our dinner order! Wow, prompt service and then some!! Our fish and chips we both ordered were hot and fresh, delicious and I actually can say I like their coleslaw. Usually, I'm pretty picky about my coleslaw and no one's slaw meets that criteria...but theirs is actually very good! Our fries were crispy and not soggy, not greasy at all. Nice sprinkle of seasoning at the end was nice too. My only thing I didn't care for and neither did my husband was the tartar sauce. It had an unusual and not a wonderful flavor...almost like someone had dumped cinnamon or nutmeg in it....hard to place the exact flavor, but it made enjoying our fish difficult. Our cinnamon apple bread pudding was spot on, but I'd recommend serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream right on top. We stopped at Metro Diner on our trip from Milwaukee, WI to Bradenton, FL. 20ish hours into the trip with 7 of us in a car and we could not have picked a better place. The exceptional experience was kicked off by our extremely attentive server, Kyle. He thoroughly explained the specials, made personal suggestions based off his favorites, and was energetic and interactive with the kids. The food was delicious, every single item from the strawberry butter to the fried chicken. I highly suggest the Chicken biscuit with hot honey (and a side of sausage gravy.) My mom has always patronized this location by ordering food to go. Today she wanted to dine in. It was somewhat busy but not packed to capacity. The hostess was very friendly and seated us immediately. However, it took the waitress 15 minutes to even acknowledge us. We observed 4 additional parties arrive, be seated, order drinks, and receive drinks before I had to ask the hostess for help. It was only then we were greeted by a waitress. We ordered coffee and when adding the creamer, we realize that all of our silverware was dirty. We had to ask for a new set of silverware. The food was pretty good. They added way too much cheese to the grits for me. If you like extremely cheesy grits, it's perfect for you. Overall, our waitress was not attentive at all. We had several other waitresses help us. We had another waitress give us more coffee and another waiter to give us creamer. This was unfortunate to be honest. Maybe I'll go back when I'm in town again to try another day. Metro Diner is a chain. They seem to be everywhere, even in my neck of the woods in South Florida. Well, until they weren't, and somehow despite wanting to go there, I never made it as the locations near me all closed. Upon realization that I was driving up north, I made a stop at my old stomping grounds. Go Gators! Anyway, let's talk food. I really expected something else entirely. Everyone I know minus one person who is extremely picky with food absolutely adores this place. I consider myself difficult to impress, usually finding most restaurants average, but this place managed to underwhelm me, and so, I'm inclined to agree with the aforementioned picky person. I stopped there around noon and sat at the bar. The staff was very friendly and you could tell there were plenty of locals present. Good start, I thought. Waitress came around, very smiley, and of course helpful. Chose to order off the lunch menu rather than the brunch menu. Maybe this was my mistake? Ordered some tea as I wanted to avoid coffee. This was pretty standard. Awaited my entree, a beautiful-looking pot pie that ensnared the senses with its smell alone. Then I happened to take a bite and it was a sheer disappointment. This isn't to say the pie was bad, it just wasn't good. It was bland. So bland that I don't think dousing it in salt and pepper would've helped. It killed what little appetite I had and instead I took to my tea, sipping away. When the tea is the best part of a meal, you have a problem. Moreover, this chicken pot pie got me thinking mine tasted better. That's saying something, too, as I'm no chef and I generally hate cooking. But eh, this chicken pot pie just didn't cut it. I ended up taking it to go as I felt bad leaving it there, but I didn't bother eating the leftovers. Instead I made my own chicken pot pie a few days later and my craving for this entree was sated. From its humble start in a single location in Jacksonville, Florida, Metro Diner has grown into a significant culinary empire in a few short years. I have been a fan of Metro Diner for years. In fact, my first experience at Metro Diner was at the original location in Jacksonville when my daughter and I stumbled upon that location when heading back to Orlando, Florida from a trip up to my home state of New Jersey. We were both instant fans of the establishment. The Metro Diner can claim its history back to 1938, though that was when the building was built and opened as a diner. In the early 1990's, 1992 to be exact, the Metro Diner was rebranded as the Metro Diner and in 2000, the Davoli Brothers (Mark and John) purchased the Diner and their father came on board a few years later and Metro Diner began expanding throughout Jacksonville, Florida. In 2010, the Metro Diner was featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and the popularity of that particular Food Network television show brought this diner its own level of popularity and with that popularity brought even more expansion. With that expansion came change. Unfortunately, one if those changes was a more streamlined menu and one of the items dropped from the menu was my favorite item at the Metro Diner. This was a pork tenderloin sandwich with bacon and lettuce. Truly a fantastic sandwich, but unfortunately, it fell to the wayside. The Metro Diner still has some fantastic options. Their burgers are pretty stellar. My daughter originally had the chicken and waffles, which is still her favorite item on the Metro Diner's menu and is still on the Metro Diner menu today. Overall, I had a great experience at this particular Metro Diner, even if I could not have that fantastic pork tenderloin sandwich. I would definitely recommend this particular Metro Diner and I give it five stars. read more

Usually when I'm in Gainesville there's always a line to get in so I just drive by. Luckily, the other day the entire patio was open so I was able to try this long standing Gainesville tradition. Serving classics like burgers, chicken & waffles, and my favorite breakfast for lunch. We were greeted immediately and the waiter took the order and brought us water. As time went on the patio started filling up. Then came the "Are you almost done " texts from my son. I looked around and noticed that everyone who came in after us was eating. It was 40 minutes since we ordered! It doesn't take that long to scramble eggs. We were just about to walk out when the food finally arrived. The food was good, not worth the wait. I've never had chicken and waffles before and was looking forward to this before we leave the south. I feel like it's sort of a rite of passage thing! Today was the day! Our server was funny. He made the spicy maple syrup mix for us, following *very precise* recipe XD... It was good, I like the kick! The fried chicken was amazing- crispy skin, tender meat and very flavorful. It was too salty for my husband's taste but good for me. I must say that I'm not a big fan of sweet chicken, so if I had a choice, I'd just use hot sauce and not maple syrup (I feel like I might have said something sinful just now...) The strawberry butter was very good, but I didn't have it in me to use the whole thing. I felt like I needed an cardiac angiogram after this meal, but hey, now I can say I've had chicken and waffles! About the seating, it was very crowded. Tables were somewhat close together. Clear dividers were used between different parties, but it was a little awkward trying not to look at the strangers next to you. Coming to this establishment I was very intrigued to try their dishes. I am a huge fan of breakfast/ brunch items so this place was exciting for me. I have tried many diners or local breakfast places in the area and they don't really do it as well as Metro Diner. I was very impressed with many dishes I have had the past few times I've gone. There's barely to none of Metro Diners in southern Florida. So, it's definitely become one of my comfort food places in the area. My favorites are the steak and scramble bowl (a classic!), any of the benefits, any pancakes! I love their bread pudding, it's such a delightful dessert to have after a meal.
