Metro Diner - So good, fried grits with shrimps - Diners Near Me - Gainesville, Florida

Good food, good service will definitely be back. Waiter and waitress are very helpful and attentive to customers.

was searching for a good brunch place around town and wanted fried chicken so we came to check this place out - LOVE the old diner look, it never disappoints! coffee was good (strong enough), the fried chickens were really good - super fresh/hot/crispy skins and also juicy instead as for the breast! i am usually careless for the waffle but theirs was good - with 'real' strawberry whip cream! services were great, the owner (or manager) came to check up on this and wondered how we found the place. Guy pictures were hanging on the wall! definitely recommend this place! yum! read more

Metro Diner - What was left of the Avacado Toast. Highly recommend with the everything bagel seasoning. - Diners Near Me - Gainesville, Florida

First time here and I was really happy with the experience. I had 2 eggs. Hash browns, and cheesy grits for only $6.50 including tax. Had it for takeout and when I came to pick it up, one of the really nice gentleman who was sitting down outside for a break stood up to open the door for me which was completely unexpected and saying he should because he's the man. Granted, I didn't want him to as I can open the door myself but it was just a very nice gesture and just very kind of him to do that. My food didn't have too much flavor and the hash browns could've used more salt but seeing that I usually like my food more bland, I was ok with this. I was also really hungry and this totally hit the spot with the amount of food I got for the fair price. I would come back again to try something else but maybe for a sit-down to get the full dining experience. read more

Nice place, fair prices, good portions. The servers were nice, and staff were all cheery. It feels like an old diner. Very bustling--had the spicy chicken sandwich and it was so good! I just really wish they had Reubens because I know they would have made it excellent. read more

Delicious food and great service! Food was fresh and didn't take a long time to get to us.

Great place. Hands down the biggest and best plates of comfort food around. I was so excited to find them here when i moved here two months ago. It is always busy so expect a wait or at least 20-25min but know they will keep your wait comfortable by serving you coffee and allowing you to go explore the nearby shops because they text you when your table is ready. They porch is the best place to eat there. You may bring your dog and they will provide them fresh water. Staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable and food comes out with no huge waits. So sit back and enjoy your mimosa and be sure to come with a very big appetite! I recommend the fruity waffle, meatLoaf, and their fried chicken. read more

This was sent to the Metro Diner, Gainesville, FL Feb 2, 2021. I ordered online 1 western and 1 veggie omelet for curbside pickup @ 8:30 this morning, entered make, model, and color of our vehicle, parked where we were told to the last time we were here, tapped the "we're here" spot on the screen and got a confirmation. This was at 8:20. We waited until 10 minutes past our curbside pickup time before I went in to find out how much longer it would be. The woman at the hostess stand found our order tucked behind another order, and handed it to me. When I told her we had ordered curbside and asked how long it had been sitting there, she shrugged and said not long. When I got the order to our vehicle and opened the bag the omelets were lukewarm, there were no utensils, no butter, and no salsa. By the time I got back to the vehicle with the missing items and began our meal, the omelets were barely warm, the cheddar cheese looked like melted plastic and the omelets were flavorless. I'm sure the omelet fillings had been microwaved rather than sautéed, as sautéed veggies have flavor while nuked are simply soft. We've had good meals at Metro Diners before (the one in Orange Park, FL is awesome & your people should go there to train) but this meal and service was lousy (our previous meal there in December was mediocre but we wanted to give you a second chance). Bad decision on our part, I guess. read more

Metro Diner is a must go place for breakfast and brunch. All foods are tasty and full of flavor. The place is sooo busy over the weekend. Our strategy is to sign up a table and swing directly to the fish pet store to kill 30 min waiting time. read more

New to Gainesville and this is probably my favorite breakfast/brunch spot! Food is great, portions are big, prices are great. Been there multiple times, usually a wait time but very well worth it!! Service is always on point and they are very efficient!! Love it read more

I love Metro Diner. This I one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places in Gainesville. Be careful if you go on the weekend because it will most likely be packed. However, I've noticed weekdays are a slightly smaller crowd. Which means you get your food quicker. I tend to stick to their breakfast menu, because breakfast food is my favorite. I've had a good variety of their menu. On my most recent visit, I did the croissant French toast with cheesy grits and turkey sausage. Everything was delicious as usual. From prior experience I know their coffee and hot chocolate drinks are delicious. If I get an actual drink my go to is an arnold palmer. read more

Here we have a couple of items which I would recommend. 1st, the avocado toast, which is toast avocado spread and a tomato slice, the portions are phenomenal and the toast taste great, hard to mess up but they do a fine job of keeping it all together. 2nd is The Red White and Blue ha la, stuffed French toast, (filled with strawberry cheesecake filling), topped with blue berries, strawberries, and whipped cream. So good! Definitely a plate to share! And 3rd is the spicy chicken eggs Benedict, with a side of hash browns (added cheese and tomato). Everything was wonderful. The prices are fairly reasonable, I'd say $-$$ and well worth the money! read more

Metro is a great place to stop by and get breakfast if you're not looking for anything too fancy or pricey. Their service is typically good, and the food is good. I wouldn't say it's my favorite place to go, but it's definitely worth a try if you've never been. read more

My wife and I had breakfast for lunch. She had a short stack and sweet tea and I had a western omelette w/hash Browns dry cold toast and coffee with cream. The two pancakes were huge maybe 9 inches and quite tasty but a little too done on one side but not overly so. My western omelette was pretty large and stuffed with ham onions peppers and mushrooms covered with salsa that needed help. I added salt and catchup to my taste. The toast was crisp cold and unbuttered. The hash Browns were very brown and crispy on the top and white on the other side. Crunchy and good but that with my wives pancakes leads me to think the griddle hand might need another hand. The coffee was acidic but three creams smoothed it out. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. She spoke loudly enough we could hear her over the roar of the crowd. It wasn't all college students but a good mix of all ages and people groups from babies to others like us in their 80's. Three stars because it was ok with large portions but not what we expected from a Diner. Bill was $29 we tipped $5 should have been $6 in retrospect. read more

We came on memrorial weekend with a party of 15 (vacation) the waitress Miranda, was so helpful, patient, and polite. It was a hot day and we sat outside since it was the fast.... The food was delicious, I had cinnamon fluffy pancakes, my husband the 12inc chocolate pancakes. We left nothing!!! My aunt that was sitting next to me and she enjoyed an avocado toast with sunny side up egg. I tried a piece of toast & the avocado was finger licking good. The food came fast even tho we was a party of "15" the service that Miranda provided was speedy and very helpful Def a place I will go to again. read more

In town for the day, and was lucky to find this gem! I had the Blueberry and Lemon pancakes, which was the special today. Delicious!! It was topped with yummy cream cheese - how can you go wrong with that ?! My wife had the Bissell Breakfast - sausage patty, two pancakes, grits and two eggs. She is a grits aficionado and remarked that those were the best restaurant grits she's ever had. If you are in Gainesville, be sure to eat here. You won't regret it! read more

Third times a charm. Everyone loves this place; I don't get it. I've had three meals here and they all were awful. Today's disaster was the chicken and waffles. Three out of four isn't bad unless it's cooked (vs uncooked) chicken. The third was red and looked the manager assured me that it was. "They temp all their food." So I don't doubt they do, but the color and the mouthfeel said otherwise. The waffle was just okay. After three trips I'm giving up on the place. On a positive note our waitress was great. She pleaded our case and a second manager eventually took it off the bill (without us asking, she did). So kudos to wait staff, they're super friendly and awesome. Thanks to the second manager. Offered up extra food, but lost my appetite by then. read more

We picked this place through Yelp after visiting the Butterfly Rainforest. We're glad we did. It was a late-ish Tuesday lunch. Parking was convenient and easy. The servers were friendly and attentive. My Fried Chicken sammich was really good. I wish there were more fries, not because there weren't many fries, but because they were cooked right. I don't remember what my wife and daughter had because I was too busy scraping coleslaw out of the bowl and picking fried chicken bits off my shirt so nothing got wasted. We jumped on 75 toward Orlando and I smiled as I had a little fried chicken burp. We'll be back sometime this year. read more

The food was soooo good and the service was the same! I would highly recommend and would like to try their dinner.

The fried chicken gives Grandma a run for her title!! I wasn't even all that hungry but wow, it was tasty and moist and the skin was crispy. Okay I'm craving it again now. I'll be honest though, if it wasn't for that chicken, I'm not sure I would give this place a second look. Our service on the patio was lack luster, yes it was a Sunday afternoon so I'll give them some slack on that. My hubby's hash was less than good, it was meh. To make things worse, we asked for a suggestion and the server suggested this dish. The $5 Bloody Mary was smaller than my kids sippy cup and mostly ice. My final straw was having someone stand at the fence smoking, only to be told by mgmt that they have no control of the other side of the fence and "the cigarette wouldn't last long." What?! A courtesy sign would mean the world to those of us with allergies, asthma, and children we'd like to protect. read more
