In town for the day, and was lucky to find this gem! I had the Blueberry and Lemon pancakes, which was the special today. Delicious!! It was topped with yummy cream cheese - how can you go wrong with that ?! My wife had the Bissell Breakfast - sausage patty, two pancakes, grits and two eggs. I love Metro Diner. This I one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places in Gainesville. Be careful if you go on the weekend because it will most likely be packed. However, I've noticed weekdays are a slightly smaller crowd. Which means you get your food quicker. I tend to stick to their breakfast menu, because breakfast food is my favorite. I've had a good variety of their menu. On my most recent visit, I did the croissant French toast with cheesy grits and turkey sausage. Everything was delicious as usual. From prior experience I know their coffee and hot chocolate drinks are delicious. If I get an actual drink my go to is an arnold palmer. read more

Awesome menu and even better service!!! Now let me clarify...This place can get packed!!! And if so, the wait staff may be overtaxed, but be patient and they are sure to take good care of you! Ask for their recommendations, they have never let me down, and everything I have had has been good to awesome! I recommend any of the burgers, the fish and chips and the fried chicken. My favorite is the meatloaf which is grilled and seems to have a mixture of beef and pork. Ask for the gravy on the side, because it is just a little too salty or seasoned for my delicate taste buds, lol, but that is the only thing I change from straight off the menu! You can find something for everyone on this menu, and like the others have said, their daily specials and Wall Menu are not to be overlooked!! Love this place and their staff! read more

Here we have a couple of items which I would recommend. 1st, the avocado toast, which is toast avocado spread and a tomato slice, the portions are phenomenal and the toast taste great, hard to mess up but they do a fine job of keeping it all together. 2nd is The Red White and Blue ha la, stuffed French toast, (filled with strawberry cheesecake filling), topped with blue berries, strawberries, and whipped cream. So good! Definitely a plate to share! And 3rd is the spicy chicken eggs Benedict, with a side of hash browns (added cheese and tomato). Everything was wonderful. We came on memrorial weekend with a party of 15 (vacation) the waitress Miranda, was so helpful, patient, and polite. It was a hot day and we sat outside since it was the fast.... The food was delicious, I had cinnamon fluffy pancakes, my husband the 12inc chocolate pancakes. We left nothing!!! My aunt that was sitting next to me and she enjoyed an avocado toast with sunny side up egg. I tried a piece of toast & the avocado was finger licking good. Third times a charm. Everyone loves this place; I don't get it. I've had three meals here and they all were awful. Today's disaster was the chicken and waffles. Three out of four isn't bad unless it's cooked (vs uncooked) chicken. The third was red and looked the manager assured me that it was. "They temp all their food." So I don't doubt they do, but the color and the mouthfeel said otherwise. The waffle was just okay. After three trips I'm giving up on the place. On a positive note our waitress was great. She pleaded our case and a second manager eventually took it off the bill (without us asking, she did). So kudos to wait staff, they're super friendly and awesome. Thanks to the second manager. To make things worse, we asked for a suggestion and the server suggested this dish. The $5 Bloody Mary was smaller than my kids sippy cup and mostly ice. My final straw was having someone stand at the fence smoking, only to be told by mgmt that they have no control of the other side of the fence and "the cigarette wouldn't last long." What?! The atmosphere was good and we just beat the morning rush so we were quickly seated. I got the southwest scramble bowl which was pretty good. However, it felt like the peppers were carrying the bowl as there was not much other seasoning. I also would have liked to see more of the other ingredients as I have many forkfuls that were just potato. We picked this place through Yelp after visiting the Butterfly Rainforest. We're glad we did. It was a late-ish Tuesday lunch. Parking was convenient and easy. The servers were friendly and attentive. My Fried Chicken sammich was really good. I wish there were more fries, not because there weren't many fries, but because they were cooked right. I don't remember what my wife and daughter had because I was too busy scraping coleslaw out of the bowl and picking fried chicken bits off my shirt so nothing got wasted. I've lived in Gainesville for 5 years, in that time I've tried Metro Diner three times. 1 out of the 3 it was mediocre. The other 2 times have been downright awful. Today was one of those times. The fried chicken for my chicken and waffles was pathetically small, and the waffle itself tasted stale. My friends biscuit was tiny/smooshed and cold. His hash browns were charred on one side and tasted 'like eating a cigarette ash tray." There are too many good breakfast places in Gainesville to waste time on mediocre food like this. Go out and explore Gators, and give this place a wide berth until you have tried other places. read more

This diner is a tried and true go to place. It is always crowded so the noise level is high when there are peak crowds. B.J. Our waiter was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the menu, got our orders right and fast. He was friendly and checked back with us. Added bonus was the day manager came by and checked on the service and food. I ordered the hot pastrami sandwich to switch it up and try a lunch item. FYI - I only have had breakfast here so far. I am a hard critique on this sandwich because it is HARD to beat a NY hot pastrami sandwich. I would give it a B rating. One mistake I made was to not ask for the rye bread to be toasted. So the sandwich was a bit soft from the hot pastrami. The fries as a side came out hot. I wished I had asked for spicy brown mustard. Pastrami with yellow mustard changed the whole taste. Again not sure if they had spicy brown mustard there but that would be my recommendation. I paired it with an unsweetened ice tea. As a tip I suggest asking for a small sweet peach tea on the side to add a splash of flavor and sweetness without going overboard. read more

This is a great brunch spot if you don't mind spending a little bit more. The chicken and waffles, which is one of the things they're known for, was a great choice. The chicken was juicy and fried perfectly, and the waffles come with a side of light strawberry butter. It was a great combination, but a little pricy as my bill came out to about $15 for just one entree. The chicken was a little bit too oily as well for my taste. Their other breakfast items such as eggs and toast were good as well, but I felt like it wasn't anything super spectacular that stood out to me. Food: Me and a friend had the fruit waffles, cinnamon pancakes and avocado toast with 2 over medium eggs. The portions are very generous and was really tasty. The eggs were cooked nicely and the yolk was still runny, and the avocado toast was very generous with the avocado. Although the bread was a little nutty for me and I didn't see lots of options to substitute in/out other types of bread. Price: Everything on the menu was about $10-$17. If you are on a budget though I think that the avocado toast is big enough for one person to eat as a meal and is priced as a appetizer (so closer to $8-$10). Location: It's a little out of the way, maybe 10-20 minutes from downtown Gainesville / UF area. There is very easy/convenient parking. Environment: This was just a very typical diner atmosphere, nothing totally exciting, cute or impressive. You would definitely just come for the food. We came really early and it wasn't too busy (maybe half full), but I've heard that is it normally very very busy (which is why we came early). So be prepared for that, potentially even a bit of a wait. read more
